    When I lived in south Florida, my dad brought me to a Ducati/Triumph dealer that was relatively close to go hang out with his other Ducati-riding friends. I didn't know the name of it or how special it was at the time (I was only 7 years old and I knew nothing about motorcycles) but I remember a bike in front of the dealer that stood out to me, I only realized after watching this video that the bike was a 916 Senna

    Missed the Britten V1000 , my favorite of the unobtainable motorcycles. Though it may not be as rare as some of these bikes, it looks incredible and A total of 10 were built. It also has true racing heritage having won the Battle of the Twins in Daytona International Speedway's Daytona Bike Week festivities in the US and set several world speed records. Guy Martin got to ride one and it was like a national treasure in New Zealand (where it was made)... Not going to see one on the street any time soon.

    My Grandad owned a Ducati 916 Senna. He bought it whilst holidaying in Monaco in 1993 & got it shipped to UK.
    He said it was impossible to ride & traded it for 3 brand new Harley Davidson's.
    He believes that if he'd kept it he'd have definitely died as it begged you to go faster.

    • @Real_MisterSir
      @Real_MisterSir 5 років тому +5

      Well, there is quite a leap from a special edition Ducati sportsbike, to a Harley Davidson.. Chances are, that he would think most sportsbikes are "impossible to ride". But if he's happy with his choice, power to him. It would be a waste to own a bike like that Ducati and never ride it the way it deserves

    • @thomasharman1435
      @thomasharman1435 5 років тому +3

      @@Real_MisterSir He was around 45 at this time and he had around 7-8 Harleys anyway (We was very wealthy in the early 90's). He liked cruisers.
      He said he didn't want to feel on edge and he claims the reason he's never fallen off whilst riding is due to the fact he doesn't own sports bikes!
      I had a Daytona 675 and was constantly pushed to ride harder. I can only imagine why a 916 felt like to ride on shitty English roads!

    *The truly most rare bike on Earth?*
    - The bike you want to buy, being available at the right time and the right price, and within your area. That shit is freaking impossible to find. It is always off season in some place far away, or at a dealership that asks 30% more than the bike is really worth, or something is broken and needs to be fixed, or it has a billion miles, etc. That one gem, the right place/right time kind of bike, it's just never there.

      I've found a low mileage 2002 FZS600 Fazer (the exact type of bike I was looking for) with braided hoses, double bubble windscreen, scorpion end can, colour matched belly pan and colour matched powder coated wheels (most of the major modifications I was considering and some I wasn't), in Kenny Roberts racing colours (exactly the colour that I was looking for) as a private sale. the owner takes the bike to the same mechanic as I take mine to. He wanted a very fair price, and I put down a deposit as soon as I was able to, I'm just trying to get through Christmas before I pay it off outright. And best of all, the current owner actually interviewed everyone who wanted to buy the bike, he rejected people because he thought they would damage the bike. Oh, and he lives a mile down the road from me. The Fazer is kept in a heated garage, the tyres are rotated daily, the bike is started and run weekly, and is serviced every few months, and is ridden about once a year to the MOT station, then back again.

    Meh, I got myself a rare and exclusive motorcycle for cheap, and that's my Hyosung GT650R. Well, it's rare and exclusive in my country, which is all that matters to me personally, the dealer only got 6 bikes after the facelift, and out of those 6 only 2 were in white, red and grey. My first bike is also rare as well as the dealer got a few but people weren't really into naked bikes back then, a GT650. They are both cheap, basic and raw, love them!

    Gotta say I was a little disappointed to not see the Ducati SuperMono in this list. Quick story about it, I worked at a dealership in CA and one of the owners raced Isle of Mann on one, and had the bike sitting in the shop. Found myself at the Ducati factory while in Italy one year and took the tour. The tour guide talked about the SuperMono and showed us one. She was completely shocked when I told her I knew someone that owned one.
    Side note, that same owner once checked (yes CHECKED) a Yamaha FZR400 in his luggage, to race at Isle of Mann.

      yea it looks too squashed for my liking. It has these wide headlights that are un-aggressive and the front is so stubby, it kinda looks like it has been crashed head first into a wall, and then the italian sculptors tried to save what was left and repolish it. I don't particularly hate it, I just don't get the fuzz about its "amazing design". To me, it has aged far worse than the later bike 999/749, which were not too well received by the public back then, but start to get a following now as their looks are more in line with modern styles.

Ireland could get close to it.

      Yea, the R7 was made to be used, either as a decent streetbike or as a upper echelon racer when all the right bits are installed. Either way, it gets used.
      The NR was more of a tech showpiece, highly neutered from its potential since it was never really meant to be "used".....hence, a museum/collector bike.

    I have actually ridden a Rickman Enfield. I didn't like it very much.
    Rickman was one example of the after-market frame business. That's pretty much stopped now, because production bikes have got quite good, but in the 1970s...
    Fritz Egi in Switzerland built some of the best aftermarket frames going. He did start with a spine type frame for a Vincent, on which he won the Swiss Hill Climb championship. Anyway, by the early / mid '70s he made kits for Japanese UJMs, and he had a bike called the MRD1 - which was Motor Racing Development, it was the shop test rig, in which he slotted progressively wilder Kawasaki Z1 turbo engines. After several requests, he started to make and sell replicas of his MRD1, and an Egli MRD1 Replica is a supreme wild-child bike from the '70s. Try 250+hp, on Pirelli MT28 Phantoms... No, those were not radials, and they were not known for their high speed stability...
