Nice to hear a recap again about the journey to Paris. I think Paris saves a lot of people’s lives; it certainly did mine. This coming week marks seven years of my being back in the States after my years of living in France. A lot of the reason I watch your videos is to keep that feeling alive of what it was like to live there. I’m where I’m supposed to be now, but I do miss it there. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼✌🏼

dude i have been watching your videos for like 6 months i love paris have been like 10 times, but was always to scared to commit to moving out there for just a few months to live it, not to stay forever but just to spend a few months, you have given me even more drive to do this thank you.

This was a momentous vlog! It really struck me anew, when you talked of not having to pay rent for your apt made it all possible. I think your landlady (Grandmother :) is a Godsend in your life. There is a gravity to your saying it's how you got from struggling to build anything in Spokane to having your own OFFICE IN PARIS... has that even sunk in! Anyone in the world would be blown away hearing you have an OFFICE IN PARIS... I'm impressed :) I loved this vlog today, I am happy for you!

I’m a believer that there is a goal for all of us in life, some people struggle to get there, and others get to the goal faster, but is us, the ones who have had the huge boulders along the way, that tend to appreciate a lot more, the little rewards that we accumulate along the way.

Jay, j'ai aussi étudié le français pendant que plusieurs années. Ca fait plusieurs années, mais je crois que je pourrais encore avoir une conversation en français. Aujourd'hui, je suis marie, nous avons des jumeaux de trois ans, nous avons de bons emplois, etc. Toutefois, vous avez ravivé mon "Wanderlust". Comme j'ai déjà commenté, ma femme et moi irons en Europe dans environ 45 jours (Londres puis Paris). Même si vous n’êtes pas la raison du voyage, vous avez certainement été une inspiration pour moi de "brush up on" mon français. Merci d'avoir fait cet VLOG. Nice to get some back story after just recently following your channel. Paris was the first international city I visited when I was just 16, and I did it alone for the entire summer. Changed my life too. Also fell in love, literally first romantic experience, and like you made it my goal to return, though that was nine years later. During that trip I spontaneously ended up visiting copenhagen and just stayed there. And Denmark became my home base for ten years. I say base because I'm an animation artist and from my home in Denmark I ended up working in Paris several times then Berlin, Dublin and London. This was just as the EU was forming making it easy to work in different European countries under the new then EU laws. But my heart still has a thing for Paris. Though I've noticed over the past 40 years how it's changed, somehow it still has this crazy emotional core that feels...Paris! Can't really put it any other way. It really is a person rather than a city. Growing older through time, always changing but somehow at the core the same. Maybe all great cities are this, like people.
Well you made me think, and that's why I'm following you like a good movie or book, I'm looking forward to the next sequence or chapter.

That's an amazing story. Paris does that to people and admittingly can do the opposite to some people as well. Paris captivated me as well, quite some time ago, and although I often wished for a life there, I was fortunate to have friends living there over the years. But, did I hear that clearly. . .rent free? If so, that is an extraordinary find! You are very lucky.

I watch with great interest on your struggles to live in Paris because it mirrors the same strong aspirations of those of my cousin, except he is a 30 year Parisien-born and raised frenchman who struggles to make L.A., Ca. his home (vive la difference!). He has lived here off and on since around 2009 on every kind of visa he can obtain. His goal or dream is to establish himself in the fashion industry. He has an online business in that field and has confidence that he will be here to stay.
I have high hopes for your friend as well!

I was in Paris two years ago, after being in the Louvre we were locked in the outer court yard, by barricades and police, as the Tour de France was to pass by about 45 minutes later. So I got to see the Tour de France by default. One zip and they were gone!

@@JaySwanson You have ruined me for watching YT videos, I have just watched a YT video in French (I watch YT in French for my French audio comprehension) and it was the worst YT video I have seen. Shaky camera, low audio, wind in the mic, back lighting all wrong, Yuk! I gave up after three minutes of a 40 +minute YT video. Maybe you can make a basic, "How to make a watchable and audible YT video!"
Great video and my trips to France and Paris felt the same way. I just felt right and like home to me so I totally get it. I plan to go back soon. The funny thing is I don't speak much French but still was able to get by. Part of my plan is to learn more so I can communicate better while there. Thank you so much for this video and congratulations!
