However in the future in 2021 another city in another country is suffering the same fate.. no rain for 3 years .. here we are .. I am from ct but live abroad so I am sharing this videos to let peeps in my current cities know the seriousness of this.
I can give some advice because i really cares so someone will get my point , I.e cape town still have hope. believe me , they have hills and mountains , so they can plant trees in it , these prevent soil erosion , maintain humidity, maintain groundwater level and also planting more trees works like a speed breakers to wind currents so the rainfall more in cape town area.
That won't help. The issue is much bigger than that. I was born in Cape Town and live here now, but grew up 1600km north of Cape Town in a town surrounded by endless deserts and seawater. That town, only received rain once every two years. That's because just off the coast there's a permanent high pressure system that's the cause of the extremely low rainfall. That permanent high pressure system is moving south as ocean waters are warming up. In other words, it's moving towards Cape Town. I grew up in a place with nothing but seawater and sanddunes, that had a lot of systems in place to more efficiently use water. E.g., reusing waste water for gardens, etc. But, lately rainfall has increased slightly and floods happen because stormwater infrastructure was non-existent in that town... because it was never needed. That town wasn't adapted for the situation. Cape Town too isnt adapted for it's new situation...and that's the real problem. But it will be eventually.
No, we're not... we just had an extremely wet winter with loads of rain. Our drought has broken. I live here. This video is old. We had floods of water. Loads of rain. God sent the rain! The same thing happened to Joburg a few years ago. We're all good.
Droughts happen and are normal, it is Africa afterall. The real problem is Cape Town is a huge city, and the large population uses up resources faster than a small town would in Nevada. If the population was smaller, they would've been able to weather this until the drought is over.
There was a car crash in Moscow, it must have been global warming; a woman was raped in Bangkok, it must have been global warming; Lufthansa employees are on strike, it must be global warming.
This has all been a political fallacy created by the Democratic Alliance to increase water levies in Cape Town by 55%...dont be fooled this was all about money... I live in Cape Town and haven't had to queue, buy additional or resort to extreme measures to have a normal life... DAY ZERO... DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE
This is completely out of date. It has been raining beautifully. Dam levels are rising. Water saving measures have had the desired effect. Many homes have full tanks in their gardens (I have 2500 l) to use for flushing an other non-potable needs.
So because it's rained "beautifully" in SOME areas three or four times, you think that's helping? We've received water from private farmers, which raised the dam levels- not because of rain. The fact that many homes have tanks doesn't mean that things are changing. The majority still don't have the most useful mechanisms to deal with this crisis.
Adrian Nel Ive got 45,000litres of tank water and im on town water as well in Australia , it takes years to recover from even a small drought , i hav'nt seen our local res full in 30 years ! They have a long long way to go .
From a South African Hydrometeorologist based in Cape Town: Just two days ago, Cape Town was flooded. Over 25mm of rainfall recorded in a day. What is Al Jazeera smoking? Hashish? Day Zero was never going to happen. I know because I literally work with water in Cape Town.
Water is so valuable, but most of us take it for granted. Imagine if there was a limited supply of clean water! The prices and demand for it would be insane!
Ehm,.. Your imagination is a long standing reality in many areas. There is an increasing scarcity of water due to human wastefulness. Your idea may not be all that wild, it is more due to a lack of knowledge and perspective. It may appeal to your feeling of entitlement to water as a drinkable resource, but not everyone will go full Karen to wait for a situation to resolve.
@CQHS It was real and have temporarily been resolved thanks to good rain in 2018 & 2019. But it will likely be even worse when we have the next period of dry winters.
Question for Dena, why do you see desalination as a bandaid solution? It may currently take a lot of power, but as the globe warms it may be the only sustainable source of fresh water we can get.
Anita is such a considerate woman. Imagine if half of the coast acknowledged the crisis. They'd save enough water to sustain the less fortunate in the area. Water is primary❤
What a pathetic comparison, first no one should support terrorists including terrorist states, you are a colonial state who runs an apartheid, second ... come on there is a hundred coutry who sells all kinds of water solutions, you zionists are living in a lie about yourselfs.... wake up, this is 2018 who does colonise a country because of an ancient fairytail book ? only you, go back to europe
Rabbi Elchanan Poupko We the Christians of Cape Town frown upon boycotting Israeli aid. Please pray that the Islamists in our midst do not have the upper hand. Shalom.
Please shut your dirty mouth and stop lying. There are plenty Christians in Cape Town who DO NOT support israhell. Who are the Islamists in your midst? The ANC has always been pro Palestine because there are plenty similarities between South Africa's Apartheid and what Israhell does.
This is old news I live in Cape Town so I know it has been raining in Cape Town there was a flood a few days ago....and the Newlands thing is being going on for years Cape Town people just like that spring water so Tourists shouldn't be alarmed.
I like how the water scarcity has brought all races together at the taps. And I love how she's not hiding the fact that the little boy is HIV positive and is very healthy on treatment.
Great reporting on the water issues. What is the cause of the water crisis. Weather modification from chemical spraying, or are reserves being depleted by corporations like many countries including the USA.
oh poor poor white people. you get what you give!!! Africa is not your home , go back... just like white people tell Africans ( who where forced to leave their land !!!!!) so shut up
I don't live in Africa and have never demanded anyone go back to anywhere. Nor have any white people I know slung such insults. There is no one alive today who deserves to have retribution done to them for things done by long-dead people.
I assume 'living that every day' refers to police murders in the United States. There are not white gang members targeting black farmers and killing them in their homes, setting children on fire. We are increasingly governed by politicians who report to transnational corporations. While the executives and shareholders of those corporations have had a high concentration of white men and Americans, the world's ruling 0.01% is filling up with Saudis, Indians and Chinese billionaires who benefit from ties to the communist PRC. Super-rich people of every origin are equally capable of war-profiteering and exploiting other countries' natural resources. White farmers in South Africa are so far down the global corporate hierarchy, you should be siding with them. It is my sincere hope that African countries can avoid turning anger over inequality against a convenient, identifiable scapegoat. The continued growth in clean energy and food security requires peace.
the gang members you talk about are even worst, they are politicians in power. stop acting like white people are victims or that they are in lower part of hierarchy... if you aren't a racist person, just listen to your self, look how stupid and ignorant you sound. white people are not victims.
Well im german and i life with about 130liters a day, a Tuareg can life with 3-5 liters a day, so the living in different parts of the world is different.
Sady, water shortage is not the only problem in South Africa. Rampant crime (violent crime and sexual crime), and extreme political corruption -( politicians stealing money and fleecing taxpayers) contribute largely to the mismanagement of basic services like water supply and other services like electricity supply. In ANC-run regions like Kwa-Zulu Natal, it is not uncommon for unsanitary, brown water to come out of taps and residents have to contend with "load shedding" which means electricity is cut for hours at a time. Potholes in roads have become a common sight all over South Africa. Add to this, rampant violent crime and reverse racism have created a massive diaspora of educated people leaving South Africa - immigrating to other countries to enable themselves to get jobs and to live in environments where their children can grow up safely. This "brain drain" has left South Africa vulnerable to corruption and mismanagement. Water supply is the responsibility of the Federal government - it is a human right and the ANC needs to step up to the plate. What has the ANC government done for the past 25 years to improve the plight of the poor? The report is misleading and does not touch on any of the substantive issues.
I remember this happened in Cairo when I was a kid, I filled up buckets and carried them home in the 6th floor, that wasn't good. I'm Praying Allah to mend your water problem..
You can see how aimed this at as Americans. I as a Dane have not watered my lawn ever and I take short showers and sea grey water for the garden and do rain water collection already. The English speaking world really needs to wake up to this and stop considering saving water and using grey water as aosmething extreme when it in fact is completely normal in the rest of the world.

In algeria and as many of the arab countries we use sea water for all purposes except when it comes to drinking or the food industry, why cap town doesn't do that ?.
4:23 is the norm. This how people in townships live. They don't pay for water. They use a communal taps and ablution facilities. In most cases you will find these taps running throughout the day thereby wasting many litres of water. People in suburbs pay for their water.
Aussie here, my state had a 20yr drought, it ended only a couple of yrs ago. As per usual it's the rural areas who have to live with drought while the coastal get to pretend it isn't happening. That is until it starts affecting them. Even if this has never happened before, the moment the dam hit an unusually low point there should have been the clamp down and other options, now it is too late to START?!... WTH have the govt been doing?
Hi, I am doing some research for a school project, what state are you from that you say had a drought, the paper is about water justice and how we could achieve it
Why not have sea water filter or solar desalinater in every resident across the city or just build one yourself or have large storage balls at different parts of the city filled with sea water along with desilantion devices
when you ask cape townians by the newlands FREE water... why didnt they go before to get free water... most will tell you it was a mission. the years of water we all wasted is now showing how we didnt listen. cape town city has told us to save water for YEARS
If only we could just drop this race thing. We are human. End of story. Sometimes I wish this world would crumble cause clearly we don't know how to act. But I wouldn't wanna do that to the animals.
The "have and have nots" water problem isn't as clear cut as this show would like you to believe. The government of the city today isn't cutting water off or not expanding infrastructure because people are not white, infrastructure exists in the built up areas. The problem is that there has been a massive influx of people from elsewhere in the country, most notably of black people who did not live there before 1994. These people go and set up shacks wherever they can find open ground, most of the times illegally. And the city can't keep up. Again, NO CITY on this planet, except maybe in China (they have massive manpower, they have a autocratic state that can dictate where you live, and they go in very cheaply - so many of those buildings are high-rises that are not of the best construction), can erect housing structure as fast and randomly as people are moving into the city. The poor are setting up in places where the water table and periodic flooding (not an issue now, but the WC droughts only last so long, then it pisses cats and dogs) don't allow for human settlement, let alone sewers etc. Yes there are legacy issues that need to be sorted, most notably more policing of the city center, coupled with more rent-controlled housing, new low cost developments inside and external. Something will have to be done to control the influx of people who do not even have jobs yet when they come here, however I wouldn't know where to begin. Decentralization of the industries to points around the city and perhaps to other Municipalities etc. There are social problems here, but AJ+ seems to be hard set on pushing a very divisive narrative without giving a balanced accounting.
Scarcity of water, that isn't good at all, water is life, without water,no one can survive, water the most basic and important resource,it plays a foremost role in our daily life,I can't imagine how life would be without water
IM IN Cape Town NOW!...ITs RAINING,AND HAS BEEN FOR DAYS,...OUR DROUGHT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TILL SEPTEMBER,AT WHICH TIME WE'LL HAVE A WATER-PANIC ALL OVER AGAIN.
That has nothing to do with rainfall, drought or global warming. The South African population grew (exploded!!) from 5 million to 50 million in only 100 years.
I had an idea a while back and I’ve noticed I wasn’t the only one. There is PLENTY of water in the taps and water pipes. We should use that to fill the damns. It’s like so abvious but no one cares enough to lift a finger and think of this.
Listen- Yes there's a divide but the way us South Africans have brought it together to save water has helped a lot but people living in townships are better than living on the street and there are enough night shelters to fix that. The focus should be to save water not focus on the poverty. But I guess whatever gets the most views
So then, with the end of apartheid the economy goes into a tail spin, SA becomes a major food importer instead of an exporter and there are water and service shortages? See the correlation here?
Regardless of race wether black, white or brown. Let's see ourselves as human beings for once. There is a lot of evil happening in the world. And people, fathers, mothers and children are being affected by it. We don't live in the past anymore it's a new day everyday. Being a black African, it's sad to see other Africans attitude towards the white Africans who are suffering in south Africa. They are people just like me and you what have they done to deserve that? Their ancestors and our ancestors do not define who we are today. If I were living in Africa I will definitely help them out without a shadow of a doubt. This is not okay.
I think its a good idea to utilize ocean water and filter it into tap water or bathing water. There's plenty of it! I conserve water always. When i go to tbe gym i see lots of women taking 30mins to wash their butt. 5mins is enough for thorough clean.
Only 2 years actually since 2017 , but it's raining in cape town today 👏👏😂😂
Kent Barnes Alhamdulliah.
Wheres all the water then
Ask the Lord you shall receive
However in the future in 2021 another city in another country is suffering the same fate.. no rain for 3 years .. here we are .. I am from ct but live abroad so I am sharing this videos to let peeps in my current cities know the seriousness of this.
@@expatleanie I was wondering what it’s like now. Do you think people will move away? I live in the US, so I have no clue what it’s like there

So true, pity they let the developers get hold of it and flood the peninsula with housing.
That won't help. The issue is much bigger than that.

Planting trees also need water
This attempt to turn it into a racial issue is pathetic.

Yasmin Moh, we just had a wet winter. It rained a lot. I don't know anyone who fought over water...
YOu'll be screwed again
Thank God for answering your prayers🎉🙏🏻🌟🙏🎶
Cant beleive you - Disaster whites
Terrific work as always from Dena. She’s very brave for putting herself this close to the problems in order to get first hand coverage.
Close to what problems. It's cape town not syria.
I should hope so, as that is what journalists are supposed to do
That foster kid
I felt sorry for him😭😭😭😡 God cure him you're the one who cures.
This is so terrifying since this is what will happen to more places as global warming becomes more severe
Droughts happen and are normal, it is Africa afterall. The real problem is Cape Town is a huge city, and the large population uses up resources faster than a small town would in Nevada. If the population was smaller, they would've been able to weather this until the drought is over.

I wish Dena would do longer video ... I can watch her and her content all day
It’s always educational

"iMagINe iF" Droughts in Europe already made it happen in some parts and it happens in Africa all the time, there's no need for imagination here.
@1:09 I am very sceptical of this report. As someone who lives in Cape Town I can say that people queuing for water is NOT a common sight in city.
@Rin Maybe, maybe not. Either way, people were not lining up for water in Cape Town at the time.
@CQHS It was real and have temporarily been resolved thanks to good rain in 2018 & 2019. But it will likely be even worse when we have the next period of dry winters.

Get ur facts straight, I live in Cape Town and ur video is incorrect!! Very disappointing!

better than temporary than nothing at this point 🇲🇦🇺🇸🇲🇦🌎🌍
All good in Cape Town, media just over doing it (Click Bait!!)
I thought as much, these people just want to keep creating problems that are not there!

I pumped water by hand for 5 months last year for myself, my mother, and 80 chickens; I got to say walking down the street would have been a god send.
wow. 1400 yrs ago we were told that towards the final days, droughts will be very common... to think we are actually living in that age...
Dena, are you aware that white South African farmers are being targeted and murdered as rhetoric about land confiscation is being ramped up?

me how old this video is ?
It sounds like what we in Cape Town experienced about 4 yrs ago
Wait... how do you run out of water next to the ocean? Couldn't you just have the ocean water filtered and use it for the city's water supply?
Ok,, THIS IS EXTREMELY EXAGGERATED!!! Not visiting CapeTown will ruin our economy even more! - this lady is crazy AF
She did a very good job💥💥💥
Great Video, and very informative ! 👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks for Sharing and the hard work 👍🏻😎
I am from Cape Town and this is true we need water badly
Start constructing desalination plants?
Miguel Thomas PC folks won’t, too worried Because it will be done by israel
Construction started a while ago.
Cost too much, ether away politicians will steal the assigned money.
Installing rainwater collection systems for households must be doing "a lot of good," considering it hasn't been raining. :\
I thought it was getting better.... I am living in cape town
Thanks for always doing such a great job .
This is just the beginning, all cities gonna face this around the world 🌎
This is what happens when you really on the government for everything.
pretty much every western nation has government supply tap water so no i don't think thats it.
I think its more about election idiots who don't believe in things like climate change because they will be unwilling to do anything to stop shortages.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... you are very stupid.
HPTRK Kreed if only your government didn't have a monopoly on printing your money as well
No its when you vote for a government that is filled with corruption.

Avihai bro it was snowing in Egypt i feel like this earth is gonna do something weird

Y’all should have bought Israeli desalination technology
Agree!
santabanter and palistinians
santabanter they did but desalinasation plants don't take overnight to build
or the white government in cape town should have been wiser, seeing as they knew about this since 2001.
Zahra Ismail white government? Are you uninformed ? There is no white government in south africa. Please brain
8:27 So the shortage of rain water is DA fault? In Cape Town or all over Africa ?

Yes there are legacy issues that need to be sorted, most notably more policing of the city center, coupled with more rent-controlled housing, new low cost developments inside and external. Something will have to be done to control the influx of people who do not even have jobs yet when they come here, however I wouldn't know where to begin. Decentralization of the industries to points around the city and perhaps to other Municipalities etc.
There are social problems here, but AJ+ seems to be hard set on pushing a very divisive narrative without giving a balanced accounting.
uhm not only is AJ+ late on this story, they are also late on Cape Town slowly but surely moving past this.
'The National Government, in terms of the South African Constitution, is resposible for bulk water supply'
i am d[ from palestine lived in jerusalen and ramalla and bethlehem but moved to usa 1999 til now now i am in maryland but i love europe more
Scarcity of water, that isn't good at all, water is life, without water,no one can survive, water the most basic and important resource,it plays a foremost role in our daily life,I can't imagine how life would be without water
I hope things have gotten better in the last 5 years.
Browsing these after watching 'sardar' movie....India should be alert
Whats it got to do with colour if there running out of water .
I am livid. I had to take my maid to queue for water 3 times yesterday in searing heat.. The swim was worth it though.
Dena Takruri is beautiful.
😂😂😂😂
Listen- Yes there's a divide but the way us South Africans have brought it together to save water has helped a lot but people living in townships are better than living on the street and there are enough night shelters to fix that. The focus should be to save water not focus on the poverty. But I guess whatever gets the most views
This is all signs of the world going to end
This is late. Nearly drowned there was so much rain this morning (I live in Cape Town)
Don't worry, no skies are falling here. They just had rain
This is the 2nd negative video about Cape Town from AJ+ in a month.
So then, with the end of apartheid the economy goes into a tail spin, SA becomes a major food importer instead of an exporter and there are water and service shortages? See the correlation here?
Flint: hahahahaha so you're not going to talk about us
I live in Africa it’s true... and in Cape Town blouberg it’s a struggle
Can’t believe they exposed the HIV status of a young child with no blurring of his face. That’s so unethical
Ok I live here in cape town and yes this was true but now day 0 has been canceled so that's good😄😄
Damnn the reporter so hot😰😍
I knoww
Oh Dena.....
Politicians should leave politics aside and resolve the water issue. Jesus please help these people.
See the government didn't tell us to cut the water usage until last year it was to late
Keep praying that will help 😐
Yes and Amen ! Count me. In ... 😀😀😀

Keep saving water and trees that will help
Lol god... that’s ignorantly funny
This makes Cape Town look so shit but if you go to the actual nice areas it’s beautiful
Lucky I'll never have to deal with this
Are they okay they said it well run out in june or may its October right now ?
Cape town sea waters are close to Antartica and cold enough to bring and iceberg back to the port. Think I am kidding?? Not sure!
This is not okay.
plz tree 🌳🌳 planting 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Why does engineering always carry a stigma to it? As a future engineer I only want to help.
wow good video informative.
That's what we need right here in the five boroughs New York
I think its a good idea to utilize ocean water and filter it into tap water or bathing water. There's plenty of it! I conserve water always. When i go to tbe gym i see lots of women taking 30mins to wash their butt. 5mins is enough for thorough clean.
It is pretty unbelievable
HEY GUNNY ROLL!!!
This is what criminally corrupt and incompetent government leads to. If people do not fight back against the politicians this is what you get.
Reporter you're gorgeous
I know
The same thing is happening in lake Mead in the US.
