In the last three years It really came to my attention how weather patterns have changed in my hometown in SW Germany. There used to be much more precipitation during the summer months. Now we often see not a single drop for a month, the driest months being July and August. In my allotment, young apple and pear trees, but also fig trees, hazel bushes and grapes that were planted during the last years and already well rooted had to be watered regularly this summer. This used to be virtually unheard around here. You used to plant a fruit tree in fall, then maybe water it once or twice in the next summer, and it would be able to sustain itself from there on. I am afraid that restocking old forests and orchards is going to get much more difficult since young trees can't survive on their own here anymore.

In Europe (france) they want to remplace nuclear plant with wind-power/solar pannels and balance the power scarcity with coal centrales from germany So clean energy, not clean to produce, becoming more expensive and producing way more carbon

You should do few videos about solutions. In Israel there are some, from drip irrigation, air and aqua farming, gray water cleaning, pipelines across the country, gadgets on fossets and a lot more. It made the land from deserts and swamps to a farmable land.
Maybe show the palestianins some humanity first and get them working water considering 90% of them dont have it; and then we can move onto solutions for climate change. I want no part of any solution that only helps the rich oppressors at the top, while leaving innocent populations like palestanians to die, which they will.
I'm doing a project on how we can use new technologies to reduce the amount of water agriculture uses, and through all the research I've done, I found there are already so many solutions! Those technologies aren't that hard to implement, and neither are they too expensive, but parts of the agriculture industry aren't willing to change what's been working for them, even if it affects everyone around them. It's frustrating that there are so many smart people with solutions to everything, but no ones willing to change.
@@OurChangingClimate There are some simple but effective ones like drip irrigation, but the ones I find most interesting are the ones that implement sensors and algortithms to calculate exactly how much water is needed for the soil and the crops. There are also systems that are programmed to water the crops at a certain time so not too much water is evaporated. I'm a mechatronics mayor so I love finding out ways tech is being used to create solutions, and I'm especially interested in water management, since scarcity is a big problem where I live, and it could've easily been prevented. @Andreas Sagen yeahh definitely, there are farmers who aren't able to change their infrastructure, but there are many large agricultural companies who keep using technologies that affect lots of people. But yeah, I totally get why lots of farmers can't change their infrastructure. 😊
@Andreas Sagen Yeah if what they use is working, and if there are no regulations, the corporations won't change. 😪 I'm actually from Mexico, and there's a big corporation in my city that pumped all our water. The area that I live in had a lot of underground water, now most people in our city have no water, AND the water we do have is contaminated with arsenic because of another company. 😅😔 It's really sad how things like this happen all over the world. Btw there's a really good PBS documentary called "H2O: The molecule that made us", it really puts things into perspective. 😊
@@raresmocanu1743 The problem with that is the people who would be killed off are defenseless (aka no arms or weaponry of there own) Are typically also the least responsible for climate change. While sure everyones individual actions DO MATTER; we share none of the blame for scale of the pollution, which has been around before many of us were even born. I was born into a world that leaked plastic into me, Born into a world with oil spills on my coast, born into a world many think unsurvivable without A/C. So commiting genoicide is a unforgivable act as the people most responsible for changing climates will be the ones that are spared, while those at the bottom will be sacrificed for just a few moments, rather then you know that guy Bezo's who makes 4,000$ a second and could solve this whole crisis if he wanted; but he actively chooses not to as its not in his best interests for power/money.

Your channel is a metaphor for how people act regarding to climate change. A lot of people subscribe to your channel just like a lot of people subscribe to the idea of reversing climate change or going green or carbon free etc but only a few of those people actually bother to take action just like only a fraction of your subscribers watches your videos or engages with your channel in other forms as well.

I am seeing lot of droughts followed by heavy floods here from 3 years, in South India. It's poor people who will suffer from the environmental damage made by Rich people...

Fantastic video! What about the impact of meat consumption? The amount of water that goes into producing one pound of meat far outstrips the amount saved from brushing one's teeth. It feels like this should be one of the main issues to look at if we want to tackle the water shortage.
It's weird, but even in the Netherlands, a river delta nation next to the sea, we're having trouble with drought. No one here ever had to worry about drinking water, but now nature and agriculture are suffering as water reservoirs that date back to the Ice Age dry up :(

The earth itself is a recycling system, instead of working against nature you need to work with it. The major cause of water runoffs during a time of plenty rain is poor soil hydrology. There are many people who have proved through projects that it is possible to restore arid and deserted land back to productive and natural landscapes that retain good soil hydrology and restores water systems naturally. The problem is that our mindset is always about taking for profit and not giving back to keep the natural habitat healthy. Some farmers and conservationists minded people understand this but sadly they are in the minority.
Would you consider doing a video about infrastructure and the environment? I'm in Civil Engineering and was learning about water management systems and it was crazy some of the things I learned. One thing i learned is that cities draw water from lakes. Its used treated and put back into the lake 3× cleaner than it was before. My teacher mentioned that it would save so much water and chemicals if they just used the outgoing water again. I ask why that isn't the case and he said "people dont like the idea of drinking water that's come from their toilets" and i was so furious! They use this practise in California and I think it should be adopted anywhere possible. Also anyone let me know if I'm wrong or if I'm missing something haha
One thing we need to do is move water from the ocean back inland to places we need it and if we can do that while generating clean energy we have a chance to mitigate climate change and still have a prosperous future. It is really, really hard but it is not impossible. The biggest idea I am trying to express is tunneling aqueducts from the coast, in this case the west coast of the USA inland to feed combination geothermal power and sea water desalination plants. The idea seems to be so big that no one has considered it possible but I believe it is not only possible but it is necessary. For over a century the fossil water contained in aquifers has been pumped out to feed agriculture, industry and municipal water needs. The natural water cycle cant refill fossil water deposits that were filled 10,000 years ago when the glaciers melted after the last ice age. Without refilling these aquifers there is not much of a future for the region of the United states. As a result ground levels in some areas of the San Joaquin Valley have subsided by more than 30 feet. Similar fossil water depletion is happening in other regions all around the world. TBM and tunneling technology has matured and further developments in the industry are poised to speed up the tunneling process and it's these tunnels that are the only way to move large volumes of water from the ocean inland. The water is moved inland to areas where it can be desalinated in geothermal plants producing clean water and power. In many cases the water will recharge surface reservoirs where it will be used first to make more hydro power before being released into rivers and canal systems. It's very important however to not stop tunneling at these first stops but to continue several legs until the water has traveled from the ocean under mountain ranges to interior states. Along the way water will flow down grade through tunnels and rise in geothermal loops to fill mountain top pumped hydro batteries several times before eventually recharging several major aquifers. What I am proposing is essentially reversing the flow of the Colorado River Compact. Bringing water from the coast of California first to mountaintop reservoirs then to the deserts of Nevada and Arizona and on to Utah, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. This big idea looks past any individual city or states problems and looks at the whole and by using first principles identifies the actual problem and only solution. The biggest little farm is an amazing movie. People work hard to make a organic farm work but the farms in California and wildfires and drought will ultimately be the deciding factor if the farm will make it.

the diverse species of native plants and nitrogen rich species play a huge role to the earth's soil and not just trees since the trees can only be relevant at their job if it weren't for amazing potential of the soil's nitrogen absorption from rain spells and it's bio diverse bacteria for all plants species to survive this is why bio diversity is so important and is where the true nutrients comes from and recycled natural dead matter wastes and rock minerals for plants is what makes a crop pop vigorously and produces for humans to consume.

Grouping all agriculture together when animal agriculture is by far more water intensive (and a key driver of Amazon deforestation) is a little disingenuous.
The giant Oglala aquifer in the central plains is also running dry. That will also put pressure on agriculture. Someone needs to offer a billion dollar prize to anyone who can find a cost effective way to desalinate sea water. By "cost effective" I mean competitive with the water run off in temperate climates. Also, the cost of disposal of waste brine has to be figured in.
Freeing access to water to market will allow the price to be dictated by supply and demand; If water is scarce, it will be more expensive, incentivizing conservation while people will innovate to produce more and save more
WHY not address the elephant in the room? Animal agriculture and meat production use massive amounts of water. Just one beef burger requires 700 gallons!! Imagine how many showers you could take with 700 gallons! Animal consumption is way too high and must be drastically reduced to avoid water scarcity and climate collapse.

The only solution would be the profit that companies would make from the crisis. More demand and less supply would mean more money for a litter of water, which would make finding more ways to provide water more profitable and thus the supply will go up and the prices will go down. Just like when the world taught the crude oil was about to drain up, it became profitable to suck it up from the ocean.
I'd like to believe that we as a societies and countries facing the same huge challenge, would cooperate and implement the best possible solutions. But to be honest, we somehow cannot even convince some politicians that climate change is real. We can't shift to green energy or more sustainable process of making clothes (which also requires a lot of water) or consume less meat. We live like there's no tomorrow. And so many people simply don't care. Sad but true.

The problem in California can be traced to a manmade inversion in Millet Swale Basin, southeast of Snowflake, Arizona. The inversion was intentionally formed approximately 15 years ago and intentionally maintained for the better part of the past 15 years, for personal gain. The inversion compromised the efficiency of the entire global cooling system and stored excess heat in the ground. As an analogy, one day you decide to rearrange the living room, on the sunny side of the house, and you absentmindedly place a chair in front of the cooling vent for the living room. The entire house heats up because the air conditioner is working less efficiently, due to the excess pressure at the blockage. Remove the blockage, and the house cools down. I permanently destroyed the inversion in early June of 2022. The Southwest Drought is over. Climate Change of the past 15 years is being reversed. Love, Superman
Conservation and recycling are not enough. There is a new invention: Process of converting seawater to hydrogen, piping it and reforming it to freshwater that converts seawater into freshwater AND transfer it inland at minimal cost. It can be powered by solar cells. This investment would last generations and would avoid the uncertain weather

It's gonna be difficult. On one hand the price for clean water supply is gonna have to increase so that it forces people to use it more efficiently and not waste. On the other hand, the rising cost of water will make it harder for a lot of people to attain the resource. Like, how do we enforce these changes on a resource that is so vital for our survival?? (I'm no expert and there's more variables to deal with. That's just how I see it rn)
The average american could easily half their water consumption by paying some attention. I dont know about water bills over there but I'm paying €12 a month for a 4 person household that's one hour of min wage for such a vital resource. Increasing price will only become significant for the real offenders.

Water usage isn't the issue; it's water waste. You can process and reuse wastewater and stop wasting clean water, so it's not how much water we use, but how we get it.

Climate Change is making weather events more extreme. It is time to wake up and make Climate Action a priority. Individuals, politicians and corporations need to do more to dump fossil fuels and protect the environment. Insurance companies, banks, pension funds, universities and all financial institutions need to divest from fossil fuels. This will only get worse if we do not act. Register and VOTE for Climate Leaders.

Our Changing Climate you know nothing about transportation
In the last three years It really came to my attention how weather patterns have changed in my hometown in SW Germany. There used to be much more precipitation during the summer months. Now we often see not a single drop for a month, the driest months being July and August. In my allotment, young apple and pear trees, but also fig trees, hazel bushes and grapes that were planted during the last years and already well rooted had to be watered regularly this summer. This used to be virtually unheard around here. You used to plant a fruit tree in fall, then maybe water it once or twice in the next summer, and it would be able to sustain itself from there on. I am afraid that restocking old forests and orchards is going to get much more difficult since young trees can't survive on their own here anymore.

You should do few videos about solutions. In Israel there are some, from drip irrigation, air and aqua farming, gray water cleaning, pipelines across the country, gadgets on fossets and a lot more. It made the land from deserts and swamps to a farmable land.

Maybe show the palestianins some humanity first and get them working water considering 90% of them dont have it; and then we can move onto solutions for climate change. I want no part of any solution that only helps the rich oppressors at the top, while leaving innocent populations like palestanians to die, which they will.
I'm doing a project on how we can use new technologies to reduce the amount of water agriculture uses, and through all the research I've done, I found there are already so many solutions! Those technologies aren't that hard to implement, and neither are they too expensive, but parts of the agriculture industry aren't willing to change what's been working for them, even if it affects everyone around them. It's frustrating that there are so many smart people with solutions to everything, but no ones willing to change.

@@OurChangingClimate There are some simple but effective ones like drip irrigation, but the ones I find most interesting are the ones that implement sensors and algortithms to calculate exactly how much water is needed for the soil and the crops. There are also systems that are programmed to water the crops at a certain time so not too much water is evaporated. I'm a mechatronics mayor so I love finding out ways tech is being used to create solutions, and I'm especially interested in water management, since scarcity is a big problem where I live, and it could've easily been prevented. @Andreas Sagen yeahh definitely, there are farmers who aren't able to change their infrastructure, but there are many large agricultural companies who keep using technologies that affect lots of people. But yeah, I totally get why lots of farmers can't change their infrastructure. 😊

The earth itself is a recycling system, instead of working against nature you need to work with it. The major cause of water runoffs during a time of plenty rain is poor soil hydrology. There are many people who have proved through projects that it is possible to restore arid and deserted land back to productive and natural landscapes that retain good soil hydrology and restores water systems naturally. The problem is that our mindset is always about taking for profit and not giving back to keep the natural habitat healthy. Some farmers and conservationists minded people understand this but sadly they are in the minority.
Would you consider doing a video about infrastructure and the environment? I'm in Civil Engineering and was learning about water management systems and it was crazy some of the things I learned. One thing i learned is that cities draw water from lakes. Its used treated and put back into the lake 3× cleaner than it was before. My teacher mentioned that it would save so much water and chemicals if they just used the outgoing water again. I ask why that isn't the case and he said "people dont like the idea of drinking water that's come from their toilets" and i was so furious! They use this practise in California and I think it should be adopted anywhere possible. Also anyone let me know if I'm wrong or if I'm missing something haha
One thing we need to do is move water from the ocean back inland to places we need it and if we can do that while generating clean energy we have a chance to mitigate climate change and still have a prosperous future. It is really, really hard but it is not impossible.
The biggest idea I am trying to express is tunneling aqueducts from the coast, in this case the west coast of the USA inland to feed combination geothermal power and sea water desalination plants. The idea seems to be so big that no one has considered it possible but I believe it is not only possible but it is necessary. For over a century the fossil water contained in aquifers has been pumped out to feed agriculture, industry and municipal water needs. The natural water cycle cant refill fossil water deposits that were filled 10,000 years ago when the glaciers melted after the last ice age. Without refilling these aquifers there is not much of a future for the region of the United states. As a result ground levels in some areas of the San Joaquin Valley have subsided by more than 30 feet. Similar fossil water depletion is happening in other regions all around the world. TBM and tunneling technology has matured and further developments in the industry are poised to speed up the tunneling process and it's these tunnels that are the only way to move large volumes of water from the ocean inland. The water is moved inland to areas where it can be desalinated in geothermal plants producing clean water and power. In many cases the water will recharge surface reservoirs where it will be used first to make more hydro power before being released into rivers and canal systems. It's very important however to not stop tunneling at these first stops but to continue several legs until the water has traveled from the ocean under mountain ranges to interior states. Along the way water will flow down grade through tunnels and rise in geothermal loops to fill mountain top pumped hydro batteries several times before eventually recharging several major aquifers. What I am proposing is essentially reversing the flow of the Colorado River Compact. Bringing water from the coast of California first to mountaintop reservoirs then to the deserts of Nevada and Arizona and on to Utah, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. This big idea looks past any individual city or states problems and looks at the whole and by using first principles identifies the actual problem and only solution.

Grouping all agriculture together when animal agriculture is by far more water intensive (and a key driver of Amazon deforestation) is a little disingenuous.
The giant Oglala aquifer in the central plains is also running dry. That will also put pressure on agriculture. Someone needs to offer a billion dollar prize to anyone who can find a cost effective way to desalinate sea water. By "cost effective" I mean competitive with the water run off in temperate climates. Also, the cost of disposal of waste brine has to be figured in.

The only solution would be the profit that companies would make from the crisis. More demand and less supply would mean more money for a litter of water, which would make finding more ways to provide water more profitable and thus the supply will go up and the prices will go down. Just like when the world taught the crude oil was about to drain up, it became profitable to suck it up from the ocean.
The solution is a plant-based diet. Animal agriculture is the number one cause of water use and pollution.
Since the meat industry is the one with the largest water usage by far, we could also eat less meat...

Just wanted to give a heads up that you missed the Central Valley by about 200 miles (it's not a specific location but rather a region south of the SF Bay Area), but otherwise great work!
The problem in California can be traced to a manmade inversion in Millet Swale Basin, southeast of Snowflake, Arizona.
The inversion was intentionally formed approximately 15 years ago and intentionally maintained for the better part of the past 15 years, for personal gain.
The inversion compromised the efficiency of the entire global cooling system and stored excess heat in the ground.
As an analogy, one day you decide to rearrange the living room, on the sunny side of the house, and you absentmindedly place a chair in front of the cooling vent for the living room.
The entire house heats up because the air conditioner is working less efficiently, due to the excess pressure at the blockage.
Remove the blockage, and the house cools down.
I permanently destroyed the inversion in early June of 2022.
The Southwest Drought is over. Climate Change of the past 15 years is being reversed.

It's gonna be difficult. On one hand the price for clean water supply is gonna have to increase so that it forces people to use it more efficiently and not waste. On the other hand, the rising cost of water will make it harder for a lot of people to attain the resource. Like, how do we enforce these changes on a resource that is so vital for our survival?? (I'm no expert and there's more variables to deal with. That's just how I see it rn)
The average american could easily half their water consumption by paying some attention. I dont know about water bills over there but I'm paying €12 a month for a 4 person household that's one hour of min wage for such a vital resource. Increasing price will only become significant for the real offenders.

Water usage isn't the issue; it's water waste. You can process and reuse wastewater and stop wasting clean water, so it's not how much water we use, but how we get it.
Video does not talk about the lush green golf courses. That stay green year round.

Climate Change is making weather events more extreme.
It is time to wake up and make Climate Action a priority.
Individuals, politicians and corporations need to do more to dump fossil fuels and protect the environment.
Insurance companies, banks, pension funds, universities and all financial institutions need to divest from fossil fuels. This will only get worse if we do not act. Register and VOTE for Climate Leaders.
