Fantastic lesson!! I love the 3 level concept that your lessons are structured around!! What it does is give a player A LOT of material packed into one short lesson and all based around useful ideas inside a progression that has a particular style of music like Neo-soul or whatever. When you show so many different chord substitutions it allows a singer/songwriter the option to manipulate a progression to fit their own melodic ideas. Bottom line is that it is an excellent way to help people develop into true musicians in their own right. I love what you are doing, Tomo!! Thanks so much!!

I was just lifting this tune for a band I'm in. I started exactly the way you did, then on the second chorus I also went to the EM9 and C#m11. On the F#m however I go from the barred voicing to a m9 without the root so it's fingered like an AM7. For the B7 I go B13, B7#5 then B7alt. The beautiful thing about adding spice is, you can use your own favourite ingredients.

Man... I loved that little B7 chord clusters during the turn to get back to E. Had to slow it down 50% to see what you did.I heard a guy playing who sounded like he used a lot of piano player's ways of bouncing back & forth between chords while vamping. Gospel players seem to use some. No matter what chord they are on... they have some kind of formula for toggling back and forth. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing! I don't listen to guitar players. I love listening singers, piano, horns, big bands! More harmony! If you train your ears then no need to slow down. You're very welcome!

Just wanted to thank you for all these great lessons! I just discovered your videos about a week ago and you got me out of my rut 🙏🏼. You teach theory in such a non intimidating way and it’s so relatable. I don’t even have to have my guitar in my hands and your tips come out in my playing later on. I am playing much more musically now instead of noodling or being so strictly scale based. The chord theory has been a revelation. You’re a great inspiration and looking forward to learning much more from your videos. Thanks 🙏🏼 🎸

I loved the lesson, breaking it on different levels was an amazing idea, that allows me to really understand the chord substitutions you're doing there at the end. I came here after seeing the Instagram video. And when I finish my current lesson plan I'd like to get your book, I'm really interested in your tunes. Anyways, can you please make a lesson on fills? you played very cool ones at 0:20 more or less. I know they are mostly pentatonic chunks, but I still can't figure out how to make them work while I play rhythm.
