    When I bought this there wasn't much on youtube that wasn't a Bose plug for sales. I try to show how to use this, what it does, what it doesn't. I've posted two other videos using the Tonematch for recording with Preamp out and another video using USB.

    not sure about recording but i've used L1, T1 combo for yearrrssss now...pretty much since they first came on the scene and they've just been awesome in every way...my performing partner and i own 3 of them between the two of us in addition to our big, goofy qsc setup for bigger events....when it's just a duo or a trio situation, these are really really tough to beat...they're easy to deal with, sonically honest, feedback resistant and durable as all hell...i can't even begin to tell you the gauntlet we've put these things through over the years...corporate events on an island with dirty power in the middle of summer...outdoor wedding receptions interrupted by rain...subzero load ins in the snow...the bloody things just refuse to die...the one i use for my solo stuff has been in our possession for almost ten years and it sounds as good as it did on day one...really impressive for such an "advanced", unorthodox system

    A firmware update solved the USB recording problems, 2 channel recording only. Adjusting GAIN to highest level before peaking makes a HUGE difference. See my newest reviews on Bose t1 Tonematch Recording.

    I find the Tone match works very well for its intended PA application with the L1 systems. I use bose with both electric and acoustic instruments along with vocals at sometimes backing tracks.....it gives me the best acoustic guitar sound I had ever had live, using compression and the parametric eq to eliminate some undesirable mid range frequencies.

      I agree. The Tonematch works very well for its intended application.

      +Steve Bennett I couldn't agree more. The Tonematch matches with the Bose L1 systems perfectly.

    Interesting. I had no trouble recording through the computer. I used Mixcraft 7. I'm thinking a connection was bad (not all the way in or faulty cable or something else) for that much hissing to come through. I like how you walked through the whole range of settings and made the text comments. Well done.

    Very helpful, who like most of us cannot wade through a lengthy manual. Took the mystery out of the Bose Tonematch controls. Excellent sound and video production.
    Still don't know how to play with the Compressor control for voice.

      +dowtube1 as a general rule compression means to compress the sound, distributing it more evenly than it was recorded. This can sometimes help with uneven recorded sounds, or to fill in thin sounds. The more you use the compressor the lower the over all sound and more condensed and together the recordings can be. You really have to play with it and find what works for you.
      I've used it to fill in a weak vocal or distract from an overbearing guitar. It can be a very subtle change depending on the equipment and how you've set it.

    My cables weren't the problem. That's what I thought as well. Changed cables, and units to no avail. Recording through the TRS out was acceptable, though I prefer the Zoom hand held recorders. For as much as this cost I had high hopes for it being a bit more diversified. I was very disappointed. I couldn't get the USB to record anything useable. I did find that this is very sensitive to even the slightest volume adjustments when using it with anything other than the Bose Compact. I found the Tonematch to be a bit quirky. The delay in the knob adjustments, the horrible USB sound. If this hadn't been the third unit ( returned two thinking they were defective) I would have thought it was a defective unit or cable problems. The recording experiences suggested that. If I had to do it over again I would have preferred to spend money on a different mixer. But, it was one of those things it wasn't quite all you'd hoped for but, was really good at what it was designed for.

    An update on this.
    I've just started to record through this on "Landslide" (ua-cam.com/video/7uKyK39oibw/v-deo.html) & Thorntree in the Garden (ua-cam.com/video/B7RRKkbdoSs/v-deo.html) and the results were pretty good. Each channel has a pre-amp output which does a decent job of recording. No effects but, clean input to a Zoom H5. When setting up the Tonematch it makes a huge difference to set the gain before setting anything else. Set it to the highest level without clipping, then adjust the volume.

    Thank You....Do you know how to work with the compressor of tone match?

    • @DebErney

      +Nabila Youssef Hi Nabila,
      compressors, in general, compress sound so that it is more evenly produced when heard. The way I have always used compression is to mask the general level for audio that had loud and soft audio on the same recording. With a compressor it makes the volume much more uniformed. You have to play with the settings until it sounds right to you. Start at 0 then dial it in until you are happy with the sound.

    Thanks for the honest stress tested review. It was really informative. I do wish, dream and hope there were a good 6-8 channel high quality mixer/audio interface out there that I could monitor with my Bose QC35's over bluetooth. I might be settling for a Yamaha AG06 with an additional BT transmitter of some kind. I am just a hobbyist anyway. Yes, there will be some latency of some sort but I with bluetooth 4.1 i'll manage. Honest unbiased UA-camrs like yourself are a rare sort.

      I just got a Heath & Allen ZED10. This mixer is simple perfection. The sound quality and the effects are the best I've ever heard. Doesn't have bluetooth. The Heath & Allen line does have a new hybrid mixer the iZed series that have the bluetooth. The Bose T1 is good for the Bose systems and thats about it.

    Hello, I bought a bose L1 1s b2 and a bose s1 pro, there is no way I can play stereo through the T1 tone match. I use channel 1,2,3 for microphones, and I connect 4/5 to ymaha sx700. Outputs to L1 s1 b2 Tone Match port, and I connect 5 Master output to bose s1, but I don't get stereo, what am I doing wrong, what settings are needed? Thank you very much.

      The Tonematch is incredibly limited. You can force a stere channel with panning one channel left and another right.

    Hi Deb, just purchased the VE -8 is their a way to run the Boss VE-8 into a T1 Tone Match ( L 1model 2)

    • @DebErney
      @DebErney  3 місяці тому +1

      Plug the two outputs of the Ve-8 into two inputs of the ToneMatch.

    • @DebErney
      @DebErney  3 місяці тому +1

      You can plug two outputs of the VE-8 in two inputs of T1. You can also use the headphone output of the VE-8 into one of the inputs on the T1. Make sure you use a stereo cable.

    I am thinking about getting the T1 and want to be able to use it as a DI to record on my computer, however after seeing your review I did a little more research and looks like although not straight forward people have been able to do a good recording using a T1. Here are some suggestions if using Garageband: toonz.ca/bose/wiki/index.php?title=T1_ToneMatch%C2%AE_Audio_Engine_/_Recording_/_GarageBand

      +Surya Chataut I made the same mistake. When buying it I saw mention of USB but, if you look you won't find anything saying how to record using the USB other than a very obscure mention of USB. Yes, you can use this per the link you have cited BUT, it sounds like hell. And very hard to get recognized. Call Bose and ask about it or better yet, go to Guitar Center and check it out. You can also read the manual to see very little on USB, no audio interface that I recall. I have gotten decent results using the pre-amp outputs into a Zoom H5, though it will not record effects. I would definitely consider other options before getting this for USB recording. To say it is inferior is an understatement. At this price point I you have so many options. THIS WAS NOT MADE TO RECORD WITH USB. IT WAS MADE FOR USE WITH BOSE T1 TONEMATCH SYSTEMS. Good luck.

      +Deb Erney I saw a new video from you; so looks like with the updates you can do a recording with T1 connected to your computer via USB huh?

    • @DebErney
      @DebErney  8 років тому

      +Surya Chataut It actually recorded well with the USB. I posted an updated review ua-cam.com/video/aNgruXdVSSM/v-deo.html using the USB for recording. It recorded very clean sound with depth. No effects are recorded but when doing the DAW you don't really want effects?? I still think it's over priced but it works well. If I didn't own the Bose T1 I would not recommend this unit when there are so many others that will do the job at 1/2 the price. After the updates I was able to record from it (with a little finesse)with good sound. I've always used my $179 Behringer mixer for this when I didn't feel like hooking up my Apogee Duet (another over priced piece of equipment I had to have).

      +Deb Erney Thank you for all the info. I have a Fishman SA220 amp and I was trying to take the DI out from it to an old Mbox DI and I had a terrible recording. Recently I found out it was because of a bad cable. Now I just hook the DI out from the amp to my computer or my DSLR and record audio+video. Serves my purpose :) and I did not have to buy additional gadget.

    • @DebErney
      @DebErney  8 років тому

      I also had the SA220 and regret selling it for the Bose Compact L1. You could look at the Behringer mixers. I had BEHRINGER XENYX X1832USB amzn.to/1MR0S5E
      which I also regret selling. That mixer did everything. Recorded 8+ separate channels, with or without effects.
      Are you using it for DJ'ing - music - or voice overs?
