Greek mythology is the body of myths and teachings that belong to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. It was a part of the religion in ancient Greece. Modern scholars refer to and study the myths in an attempt to shed light on the religious and political institutions of ancient Greece and its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself.
Greek mythology has had an extensive influence on the culture, arts, and literature of Western civilization and remains part of Western heritage and language. Poets and artists from ancient times to the present have derived inspiration from Greek mythology and have discovered contemporary significance and relevance in the themes.
Greek mythology is explicitly embodied in a large collection of narratives, and implicitly in Greek representational arts, such as ancient vase-paintings and votive gifts.

Listening to these stories while working overnight is a savior
I was listening to this to fall asleep and it worked in the start…. then it started to become interesting and I’m up all night
Same 🙄
Made the same mistake many times, just one more story, 36 hours later, still going, no sleep.
Hahahaha

Since I’ve been an adult and out from under my paster-parents’ constant mind control it’s always puzzled me why we refer to non Jewish, Christian, Islamic beliefs as “mythology”. At first i thought it was the ages. But the best i can tell Judaism predates Roman beliefs, although they are based on much older Greek religion. What a treasure to have all of the lost, oral tradition beliefs of the millennia past - but i get aside from the point. It seems that modern religious people want to diminish ancient beliefs by neglecting to refer to them as religion. And as someone with beliefs that are not part of any collective, I believe the polytheistic religions of tens of centuries back to be so much more engaging.
Agreed
I think people more often call it a 'mythology' not a 'religion' not to diminish but to acknowledge that those stories are folklore of common folk and creatures outside the divine realm and their interactions with gods, half-gods and supernatural beings. There is much less about a 'belief' in those stories as Gods literally walk among humans, interact with them, live among them. It is hard not to believe in someone's existence when that someone is literally standing right next to you :)
That's a good point. I guess there is a distinction being made between "scripture" and just stories / legends. Religion has this way of producing rather rigid beliefs, there is much greater freedom of interpretation with mythology
Because people still believe in Abrahamic religions..duh.
Q. Are 'pastor-parents' Italian? Lol! TYFS.
Perfect for bedtime
11:30. Section 1

@@AuntieGreenHair you're welcome and nighty night 🌃🌃🌃🌃

Perfect narrative thank you
Chapter2 : 30:00
The author is Jean Lang
Great stuff, but why is the author/book title nowhere in the description?
I had no idea Midas' father made the Gordian knot, no idea he lived at the time of Bacchus. Didn't know Midas was Greek mythology... I thought he was a bedtime story.
That was a beautiful introduction
i am here because of school
same
Indirect but ya
11:30 start .
Universities are extinct. Thanks whoever invented UA-cam. UA-cam has done for education what Martin Luther did for Christianity: he translated the Bible into German so ordinary folks could read the stories on their own. Take away priests and professors and everyone gets to be his own teacher.
Thank you for this, and the time stamps, muchly appreciated
I don’t believe in mythology, I believe in Science 🧪, Nature, and Universe.

Part of Ancient wisdom!
The flip-flop between the Greek and Roman names is making my head spin.🤯
You definitely need to know something about mythology to listen to this, otherwise, you will be utterly confused.
Vulcan? Greek myth. We call him Hephaestus
All I can think about while listening to this is Spy Kitten TV / The Witching Hour, by Dasha (The Imaginary Bunny) 🐰
0:17 Chula Vista?!? San Diego?!? Nice 👍
The switching between greek and roman names really ruined it
This is hard to listen too when you keep using the roman names.
Still great bedtime stories... Thxs covid 19... June 2020

Theres tons ofgood mytholgy stuff out there
Which book is this? Exact name?
A Book of Myths by Jeanie Lang
Why do the gods, at times in this story,, have their Roman names in a Greek mythology podcast?
The UA-cam title might just be a bit misleading. It does say at the beginning of each section though that this is "A book of myths", not a book of Greek mythology.
@@oWildChildo I get your point Billy (that it is said at the start) However, the title is important.
This book is written by !?
The reader said it after introducing himself but I don't remember😃

5:31:15. Echo, 🤐
Intro mentioned aryan people in relation to greek myth and then every other myth I the first few mins. Seems a lot for a vid not about aryan history.
Says the guy with double “m” initials. Greeks, like all *Indo-European* speaking peoples, are descendants of Aryans as much as the original Persians, Italians, Romanians, Germans, etc, and Greeks are very much part of the Aryan migration period which subsequently brought consciousness to this ungodly world.
And you’re probably a freemason i.e. traitors to the Aryan race.
And if you’re not a freemason, your name is Irish and as Aryan as it gets, as Iran & Ireland share the same names etymologically speaking. Ireland is actually pronounced Eireann which is a cognate of Iran and both mean “Aryan”.
Learn your history 🤡

When you talk if Christianity and then reference catholicism, then it’s very clear you have no idea what you’re talking about.
