The Ambassador in Rome, Keiichi Katakami, in the speech in which he communicated the decision of the Japanese Emperor to confer on Ennio Morricone, 91 yo , the honor of the Order of the Rising Sun, Rays in gold with rosette: « The Maestro, with his musical compositions for the works of the most representative directors of the Italian film world, has contributed greatly to the spread of Italian films in Japan, increasing his notoriety among the Japanese public ». And then he revealed what the two works were thanks to which the Italian composer finally entered the hearts of the Japanese people: «In particular, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is one of the most loved Italian films by the Japanese, and I think I'm not the only one to relive the emotions of the film just by listening to the melody of the soundtrack. The Maestro then amply demonstrated to us how music can convey feelings, crossing any border, with the soundtrack of the historical setting Musashi ". To the French Legion of Honor and to the highest honors of the Italian Republic, the Maestro Morricone adds thus also that conferred by the Japanese Government of the Order of the Rising Sun, Rays in gold with rosette, which shares, among others, with the pianist Martha Argerich, with the Japanese director Keisuke Kinoshita and with the designer Akiro Matsumoto. Accompanied at the residence of the Ambassador in Rome by his son Marco, Maestro Morricone thanked for the honor: "It is a beautiful honor what is reserved for me," he said. "I like to remember my only Japanese work that I did, the TV drama Musashi: it was a good undertaking, the director came to Rome to convince me and I said I would do it only if I had written in European or Italian style, my fear was that they would ask me music in Japanese style, because in this case I should have refused ». When asked about which Japanese musicians or composers the Maestro follows with more attention, Morricone gives a surprising answer: «I follow all contemporary composers but I don't care about their name, I am interested in their music. But I remember the composer of the music of Bertolucci's film The Last Emperor, one of the three is a good musician, "with clear reference to Ryuichi Sakamoto. The Samurai Trilogy is an old Japanese film trilogy based on Miyamoto Musashi, it stars the famous Toshiro Mifune as Musashi and to me it's one of the best Japanese films of all time. Check it out =D! As for the music, I agree the music was perfect for this series. I love the lone trumpet in the background, it really highlights Musashi's Lone wolf identity while also highlighting the legend of his life.
Ennio Morricone is an Italian composer, and one of the best in the whole world, so the music of the series you're talking about must really be something, if you like it more than this. °_° Anyway, thanks for the info. :)
@redeemer61190 To be honest, all of them were so good the first time I watched them I actually did think they were Kurosawa films, so they are definitely similar in style and they are impressive films in all phases like acting, cinematography, story, music, etc. And as always Toshiro Mifune carries the film =).

They were a series made in the '60s starring Toshiro Mifune as Miyamoto Musashi. Great cinematography. Criterion released the series but the prints are still poor transfers. I'm listening to this Morricone again and I'm sorry but it sounds like a gaijin composed this. Way too anglo for my tastes. Ikuma Dan's majestic samurai music blows this out of the water.

俺にとって最初に観た大河ドラマだから好きなんだよ。色々文句を言われた作品だけど嫌いになれない。それにこのテーマ曲は歴代のテーマ曲の中で最高。
武将たちの華々しい活躍よりも、血みどろの乱世で泥臭く生きる民衆に焦点を当てたのが武蔵の良いところ。

First NHK drama that really kept me interested, the music in it was one of the big reasons I loved it so much.
武蔵の曲が、モリコーネ作曲とはしりませんでした。改めて聞いてみると、格調高い曲で、正に彼の曲ですね！素晴らしいです。

吉岡一門との一乗寺下り松での決闘の前に、武蔵が敵の総大将である10歳の子供を斬るか否か深刻に悩んでいた場面が印象に残っています。武芸者としてあくまでも決闘での勝利にこだわるか、それとも子供を斬らずに決闘から逃げるか。見ているこっちまで真剣に考えさせられた。
又八に逃げるよう勧められた時に、「いま逃げたら、おれは自分が信じられなくなる！」のセリフが凄く重みがあった。
ドラマの内容よりもこのオープニングに見入ってた様な気がする。

評価が高くない作品ですが、次作の新選組！以降があまりにもスタジオ撮影ばかりだったのに比べて、些細な場面でも屋外撮影だったのはもっと評価されるべきです。
今だったら、巌流島の決闘もスタジオ撮影で済まされるんじゃないかと思います。

自分はそちらに慣れ親しんでいるのですが、服部克久指揮verも違った味わいで良いですね。
服部さんの方がメロディーを軸に聴かせようとする意思を感じるかな。J-POPの魂も感じますね。

確かに巌流島以降はダラダラ話が展開してたけど
大河ドラマは第一話を観て決めるが、MUSASHIは合格だった。モリコーネの音楽も、若さ溢れる新之助も好きだった。お通さんは、出来れば違う人が良かったかな。長澤まさみ？広末涼子？柴咲コウ？難しいネ。
あの頃俺まだ24歳やったんやぁ。

エンリオ・モリコーネのサントラ版はローマ響のものですが、少し軽めというか、、いまいち重厚感がありませんでした。放送版はN響がリメイクしており、本動画の通り重厚感が増しています。ローマ響のを踏まえて後出しなので何ともいえないところですね。
