- Trev takes a look at Hubbl - what's it do, how is it different, what should you know before buying - all this after just over a day with the box - but it's already shipping to customers ahead of a March 10 launch, so - we had to take a look now!

This is a replacement for their failed FOXTEL Now Android Box. It had a free to air input also. This box is useless because all stream services would cost more than a foxtel subscription combined. This interface is like the Foxtel iQ4. It's slow too!
You hit the nail on the head Trevor! Local TV apps fail their loyal customers badly with missing sport and regional content and poor design/functionality compared to the apps from other streamers.
Until we get better apps, the antenna lives on!
Some apps are not available on my older smart TV so these boxes offer an easy way to upgrade without investing in a new TV.
I cannot see the need for needing this unit!
D
Yeah I definitely won't be buying one. Great video by Trev, but the Hubbl does nothing I can't already do (albeit maybe slightly slower). I already have a Foxtel iQ4 box and don't want to give Foxtel (who own Hubbl) any more of my money. They already charge too much for Foxtel IMHO.
@@_n_d_Foxtel keep deleting channels .
Movie channels are crap. Sport is getting worse . Music channels and well Foxtel is trash
Nice review. Just gotta find that manual focus button on the camera so you can lock focus for the TV screen cutaways!
It does look promising, but I'll wait till it matures. I reckon this will replace cable tv with that stack and save deal...currently use an Nvdia Shield
Great review, thanks! Can the Hubbl puck stream UA-cam or play Spotify? If it can’t, then why should I move from google chromecast for just some minor layout improvements?
Hi Trevor, What is the model of that Samsung tv? Cheers
I’ve learned the British version of the system has talking menus for the blind. Does Hubbl have this feature?
8:47 Kayo splitview not available on Hubb which is disappointing. Hopefully it comes soon since they bothered to put it on Telstra TV and of course Apple TV. They've also changed how the interface works for ATV Kayo split view - perhaps in preparation for this device.
Does the live tv include Pluto TV channels that are available on the 10 play app?
I learned it does not. What a shame because having all available live TV channels (including those only available via ip through the catch up apps) in one place would have made me purchase this item alone. Because who wants to go in and out of apps to change channels. In fact I thought not having to do that was one of the selling points for Hubbl.
Great video, I was a bit dismissive of what it had to offer but can see the potential if can get all the top streaming services on board re stack & save. I will continue to follow, not enough yet to take me away from Chromecast with Google TV (especially as already integrated into my Sony TV)
4:00 can you control tv power as well via CEC?
Does it allow individual logins from Streamotion (Hubbl) accounts? For example, a different login/email for Kayo and a different login/email for Binge. I would expect it to, but another video review I watched suggested it did not.
Oh no, It certainly does not- it's a single HUBBL account login - and kayo/binge are now hubbl - so im not sure why you'd have separate ones?
@@TrevorLongAU You can have separate logins. I do. Apple/Amazon/Google allow this. It's a shame Hubbl does not, but I guess logins can be changed.
I don’t understand what you mean? Why would you have two logins to KAYO??? Two accounts, two costs??
@@EFTM One login (email) for Kayo & one login (email) for Binge. Set up at different times using different emails. Apple TV/Amazon Fire Stick/Google TV all allow users to login in to each app (Kayo/Binge) with individual logins. It would appear Hubbl does not, from what's been explained here and in other videos. This would be a bigger issue, for example, if you were sharing your Kayo in exchange for a family member's Binge. The requirement that they both have the same login (email) on Hubbl would not allow this. Just another restriction (like no Netflix family plans) that makes Hubbl less attractive.
Also the 2-3secs delay (black screen) when changing channels is awful. Watching Foxtel (streamed) via the Foxtel app on Google TV, the channel change is instantaneous.
Hey Trev, great video thanks. I have an 2013 Samsung Plasma which has just told me it will not support Netflix anymore. Would Hubbl be a fix for this or is Chromecast the better option?
If you're savvy - Chromecast with Google TV is a winner.
why does the remote have dedicated streaming buttons is the Hubble is a streaming content hub?
I recently got this and have been having trouble adding apps. The only ones I see on the device itself are the Hubbl proprietary apps. Not Disney, Netflix, UA-cam, etc. I am in never ending battle with support but, cannot get clear answers. Maybe you (or someone else in the comments answer). When you turn the device on, are all the apps supposed to be pre-installed. I am not able to add or manage my subscriptions from the device. Thanks
Thanks for the video. Really highlights some pitfalls that aren’t necessarily obvious.
Could be handy for people that aren’t that tech savvy (like some older folk) who can click on a tile for a show or sporting match a lot easier than launching an app then scrolling and finding something.
Yes the Netflix additional accounts is definatley an issue. I have 4 family members who have these. Can you show how to use the watchlist function for free to air channels and confirm if you can fast forward the adverts if you watch it later. I assume not.
I'll add it to the list
Does it show me just the platforms I have? My current TV shows me services I don't have.
great video and explanation. really good example there of free to air over internet and limitations with say channel 7 not having digital rights to afl so cannot watch. therefore still important to have an aerial if you can.
awesome video Trev as always, and since Im in Wagga, Its good to know that it hasnt drilled down to local content, which isnt a major deal but should be spelt clearer or fixed, I know 7 Plus has local news content.
Do you need to pay same subscriptions for Netfix and Amazon Prime. Is there any subscription for Hubbyl
If you have current Netflix and prime subscriptions you can use them, hubbl sub is for binge Kayo and flash.
Why isn't Foxtel Go available on the Foxtel Hubbl device?
Thanks for that. Now I have seen it and you have explained it, I think I’ll keep google
Does it have heaps of ads?
Does it give you the option to DELETE apps/streaming services that you are not subscribed to?
For example can you DELETE Kayo or Netflix if you don't use them?
And will it still show viewing suggestions from streaming services?
AFL will be on 7plus as of next year
AFL will also be broadcast on Foxtel separately to the Ch7 broadcast (Foxtel cameras and commentators) for every game as of next year. I won't have to put up with the terrible camera selections and commentators on Ch7 games anymore! :)
@@_n_d_ about time. nrl has had this for some time now.
TVs are now being released without an aerial input?
No.. but many people are putting tvs in areas of the home that don't have an antenna plug
@@EFTM Ahhh that makes sense
What about aggregation of free TV with aerial and streaming services? Is that better finding something to watch than Chromecast? I have one of everything at the moment and the holy grail is finding something to watch across everything and have that track what I've watched and what to watch next. I think Chromecast and Fetch are the best so far but will Hubbl work better. Wanting to get rid of the Foxtel service as we really don't watch a lot of Foxtel content. Its primarily an expensive PVR
So it's pretty much a firestick?
Mine arrived today and pretty disappointed with it so far. Simple things like NRL games aren’t series linked, an episode of The Fan broadcast tonight on Fox league isn’t available (I was referred to an episode from September last year), it’s slow and seems underpowered. It feels like it’s been rushed to market prematurely, a bit like the IQ3.
You can stack and save on the website without the box.
I don’t understand why I would buy it if my smart tv already does it?
Ok after watching the full video, it really does feel half baked. Basically like everything else Foxtel does. Slow hardware, confusing setup, and logins still needed for FTA TV apps shits me to no end. Basically if I bought this, I wouldn't be able to install my PLEX app and stream my home photos, videos to my living room TV, which for us, is something we do frequently.
Can Hubbl record tv? If not then I think Fetch is still better. True?
Are you from Griffith?
Born there, Griffith High School years 7-10:)
@@TrevorLongAU Ah I went to St Pats was also born there. Great spot Bertoldos goes hard
Its not all internet based i just saw another review showing how to switch each local tv show between areal (local) and internet versions????
IF you have an antenna, if you don't it is only streamed - and i demonstrated the IP version
@@EFTM ok cheers
@@EFTM can you do another review with areal and IP switching, love your tech reviews
If Comcast wasn’t involved it would be ordinary but you’d be getting software updates for years to come with it’s link to Sky TV Europe & Comcast & for a lot of people Samsung & LG TV’s will do just fine doing a similar job.
I wouldn’t buy it for $100 but since I’m getting for free, I’ll take it
Mine won’t even turn on for my tv
what about hubbl vs apple tv the apple tv can do all of this
How does it work with yearly subscriptions to Disney+ and Prime?
prob get ripped off lol
Isn’t there an app that does this for free
I am interested in anything new about IT or streaming but when harvey norman is mentioned I just dont what to know. That company is my pet hate.
You cna buy direct from Hubbl, relax
Thanks for the video. Can't someone with the balls to take on the FTA channels though make them get rid of their login requirement? Hubbl Glass could potentially (BIG IF) be a good TV option for older people with no access to an antenna IF they didn't have to manage logins for the FTA channels (as their kids and grandkids are sick of doing it let me tell you!) 😛
They should have launched it with all the apps and all the glitches like the Netflix one you mentioned already worked out. I wont be getting it anytime soon until everything is worked out.
For a TRUE home media device, to me, it must support Plex, does it?
Google TV already gives you this
Thanks for this overview. Seems like a bit of a dud now that i see it working. Google tv in the usa has free tv without a aerial already with hundreds of free channels i watch it all the time. Seems like they could just update it to carry free to air any time....
Clear and comprehensive review - exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Definitely not buying this unit!
It has potential but currently has teething issues and not as smooth as they advertise
Newer Samsung TVs already do this 😂
Its android tv basically. There are 100’s of these.
Well I agree, doesn't give much more buck for its money. Firstly, in my opinion, the remote badly shaped, maybe just me, but I find it hard to use with just one hand. Secondly, I would like to see the homepage being more customisable. Why show me apps for streaming platforms that I don't subscribe to. It should be able to remove these apps from the home screen.
I wan to watch the afl on 7 plus for better quality video and it’s not even on there because of betting apps it’s just a joke streaming in Australia
I miss the TiVo thumbs up and down algorithm, and the series link that anticipates new seasons.
Isn’t the integrated search an original feature of the Apple TV box, for the apps you install? Not to mention a central location for subscriptions. Except Netflix because they opted out, so Hubbl or Foxtel must have been really sweet to them.
As for free TV without an aerial, are we still showing a maximum of 25fps? Live broadcast TV is often the only place to find 50fps images. Speaking of which, we STILL have no news of Paris 2024 Olympics in 4K. Remember Optus and their stupid 5G offer to show Tokyo 2020 in 4K? They just ignored it in 2021.
Please remove the bad focus stuff since the video and camera angles are already being edited. I bet someone else has already said “manual focus!!!”
I like pirates, I felt ripped off
Hubbl is a disaster
My first thought is: who would want this? My second thought is that people watching this are not the intended target market. It is very confusing though and who pays for these multi app discounts? Someone pays. If you don't have any foxtel subscriptions, can you even get a discount?
How so?
@@mjames4709 do you know anyone actually using it? Because I don't. I can't imagine sales are very good but maybe I'm wrong and Foxtel will trumpet incredible sales numbers in August at the AGM
@@mjames4709
😂
I think I will stick to my google chrome cast lot simpler than this rubble
i see what you did there:)
@@EFTM I actually didn’t realise that ….
Lol $8.00 a month for Lifestyle. Wow. Plus there is no excuse for it being "slow". I'll stick to the firecube.
IPTV FTW!!
He mentioned Stan but nope. No Stan
STILL no Stan!
Will it let user's download foreign Apps .... Vpn ,, Web browser ,, another streaming services ???
No need for Foxtel it's old technology.. paying for crap .. with the cost .. could have all the streaming services
Free TV features are not revolutionary. It is now quite common for Smart TV's to insert the Internet Apps into the EPG, to drive adoption. I know Fetch you can hide Free To Air (Antenna) channels, and then display the equivalent Internet only app. So this capability is not new.
In Australia? Name me one smart tv which adds the direct live IP feed into an EPG with no antenna and no need to launch the app
Also, Fetch does NOT yet offer IP free to air channels (I have it because I’m testing it for them - but it’s not a public feature)
@@EFTM Thanks Trev. This is an interesting topic. On the Fetch, I do have the TV apps come up in the EPG with a Show Title; for example 10Play is ch192, listing a show half-played, but it is not the same as what is on Free to Air. Can edit this in Channels.
So with this, I gather the ability is there to list in the EPG on Fetch, but it has not been configured to pull the Live TV stream.
It's the same experience, where I have to sign into the app to get free TV.
The point I will make, I think this is all native with App Development and OS, I don't believe Hubbl have any revolutionary tech. I can see Fetch fine-tuning this tech in the future to move away from Antenna, and only offer IPTV.
I'll have to find the TV model, but my parents just got a new TV and the Apps were listed at the top of the EPG, with Antenna listed below.
Not buying anything from the same company that created the binge app #unbearable
So wait... we have to pay more money to bring channels together?
That's CABLE... we cut the cord for a reason.
It’s about 15 years too old foxtel and Telstra killed the box from the get go in 2010 boxes where the new thing and now in 2024 Australia has a box what a joke get an Apple TV has the Dolby vision does this box do that
Hubbls set up UI is 3rd world technology. OMG. no full keyboard for input.
Jesus why is it so fuckjng slow…….. hahahaha. It’s a dedicated box. Obviously foxtel skimping on hardware
I do not need it. A Fetch Mighty is the best PVR
so buy another box for nothing
It’s don’t have any smart home use at all unlike Apple TV that has a thread radio in it and so does google wifi it’s just a waste of space foxtel need to just stop
Mate this product is slow and bloated ! its a product no one asked for and does it terribly 🤷🏻♂️ hopefully they paid you well to promote it coz you done your best.
You think this is a/paid, and b/a promotion of the product.
Hahahhha
ultra scam
Another completely pointless product trying to be sold to the un-savy consumers and elderly..
Meanwhile in the US they have free-to air 4k sports and TV as well as HDR support
Oh please provide evidence of this. Free to air 4k in the USA. Absolutely not
@@EFTM ATSC 3.0 broadcasting in US
plz stop trying to fleece the elderly with these unnecessary subscriptions and set top boxes..almost all TV's have every app built-in including free to air integrated into the streaming services like my Samsung which even has free streaming channels like Samsung TV plus..Sony and TCL literally have Google Chromecast built in too
Trying to convince people they need these pointless devices or some kind of set top box is predatory and this just looks like the terrible Sky Glass we've seen in the UK 🤷♂️🤦♂️
