    "草食"!! Maybe it's just me, but I would have never guessed the connotations of this idiomatic expression without having seen this program. I guess it must be a kind of common collocation not normally used in Western countries (I guess!) I'm glad to say the interviewer did not get the "rolled cabbage" reference, because that really hit me hard. Thanks for the video, very informative!

    As a Japanese, I don't like that kind of stereotypical categorizaion.
    True love never comes from these jaundiced ideas.

      Sadly these ideas are littered in the minds of young Japanese nowadays, you have to fit into a certain stereotypical category so it's easier for them to think about.

    can someone please enlighten me. Does this whole carnivore, herbivore thing have anything to do with eating preferences like meat eater and vegetarian. It seems like from the context they're just using it to characterize a personality trait which is kind of odd and strange to me.

    • @hideo9671
      @hideo9671 9 років тому +6

      No, it has nothing to do with what guys eat.

    • @andrewl5201
      @andrewl5201 9 років тому +1

      Easy Japanese Okay, I understand. Seems like really weird terminology though. Thats sort of like me calling someone a vegetarian because they are a certain personality type even though they may eat meat. Just strange in my opinion.

    • @andrewl5201
      @andrewl5201 9 років тому

      Apebongo T. How the fuck is that a metaphor you simpleton

    • @andrewl5201
      @andrewl5201 9 років тому

      look it up on wikipedia... I know what a metaphor is, just because you call something something and don't mean it literally doesn't make it a metaphor. I can't call a rock a beutiful princess and say it's just a metaphor! It has to make sense and it doesn't make sense that a personality type goes with a preference in what you eat. Preference in what you eat is a part of your personality but to flip flop the two makes no sense whatsoever and is plain silly in my opinion.

    • @GabrielHasbun
      @GabrielHasbun 9 років тому +16

      Andrew Logan
      Yes it does make sense.
      草食系男子 is a type of male that likes to be calm and doesn't pursue women or power for whatever reason, generally because it is a cultural norm, or because some genetic trait.
      草食 means herbivore.
      肉食系男子 means a male that is interested in power and aggressively pursuing women. Perhaps not the jerk type but the persistent and dominant.
      肉食 means carnivore.

    So I guess vegetarian = shy and insecure
    And carnivore = outgoing and confident
    Lol stereotypes for sure because I am a confident vegetarian or at least try I am trying to become one.

    • @MrHigherplane

      That is not what herbivorous means in this context. Herbivorous is a slang in Japan for men who are not very manly and are not very interested in getting married or having a girlfriend.

    This video is stereotyping guys and girls in a very naive and infantile, bizarre way.. Makes me wonder.. Why only very shy, and very young kids (girls were especially shy) were interviewed in this video? Very naive..
    all they could talk about was to ask a girl out or not..
