What a blast from the past! I had these growing up! I’ll have to go and dig through the CD collection at my mom’s when I visit her next year. Would be a fun rewatch. Very neat, thanks for the informative video! :]
Regarding only subbing the Japanese and releasing that, some people (myself included) physically can’t read subtitles because of visual impairments, so we’ll always care about getting a dub. Without one you either don’t get to experience the show at all or you go learn an entire language lol.
That is really just how Yu-gi-oh is for real. If anyone wants to watch the version not available in their language(Yes, I did hear that some japanese people watch the 4kids version subbed for some reason) and can't deal with reading the subs for some reason, then they either have to learn another language or get screwed.
@lpfan4491 "for some reason" For the same reason English viewers watch the Japanese dub with English subtitles. 4Kids were earnest and good-hearted in their misguided censorship efforts, which led to them creating something new and original.

Yeah, I heard it had something to do with Yugi's Japanese voice actor who also sung the opening song for Duelist Kingdom all the way to the beginning of the Battle City arc and this fuck with A LOT of Yugioh Duel Monsters related things, not just the Uncut Dub or 4kids releasing the Japanese sub in the West.
@@retrogamer6403 Dang, GX is indeed a true sequel then, because part of the reason that anime ended early was reportedly that Judai's VA had other plans. It's incredibly funny what is going on here.

Even though future YGO anime post-Go Rush seems more focused on adapting card lore, I'd love to see a directly faithful adaptation of the Duel Monsters manga (and maybe Yu-Gi-Oh! Simply put, the uncut wasn't done after 9 mainly because of their greediness of the US companies that were behind the scenes. I don't see any chance of a recast of the undub anymore.
The fans should petition to Diskotek, they're a company that is re releasing Digimon Adventure English and Japanese on Blu Ray. They're making corrections and currently working on the first 3 Digimon OVA's that we only got in the US in the form of Digimon The Movie. And they're even remastering Digimon the Movie as a bonus. They're not only remastering the movies but they got as many of the original Voice actors as they could to re DUB the movies to be as accurate to the Japanese release as possible for the first time in ENGLISH. This company can save Yu-Gi-Oh! uncut!!!
While I'd love for Season 0 to be dubbed, I'm perfectly fine with the manga being dubbed instead, as the Filler Arcs were done as good as possible in the dub
Anime singles with just 3 or 4 episodes a disc/tape...gotta say that I am glad I was only in elementary school in 2004 and that that kind of fell out of practice by the late 2000s, at least in the US. By comparison (for as terrible releases as they were), the DBZ season sets, which started coming out in 2007, all contained 30-40 episodes.
It isn't Anime, but I didn't have cable as a teen so I had to buy Justice League VHS tapes that only came with 3 or 4 episodes on them. Definitely a waste of money, LOL
They should have done his continued it with the uncut and uncensored the whole entire episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh, GX and 5ds. Who agrees with me on that topic?
NO WAY! They're actually dubbing Yu Gi Oh Zero!? On their own! That's awesome!! I'm gonna see that! The uncut Shaman King and Yu Gi Oh were good! It's a shame they never did continue both of them! As an anime fan, I want to see the original source material done right with the exact lines but in English. But with 4Kids Shaman King and Yu Gi Oh. I can give it a pass.
I'm interested if they did the uncut or better redubbed of duel monsters that wldve been amazing and fitting for those who grew up watching the series.
I have a theory that the whole show has been re-dubbed and they’re all stored in some floppy discs somewhere. I think 4Kids should have released uncut DVDs when the show was on air. Viz did that with Naruto. The TV version was more censored than the DVD version, where the characters swore, violence was shown, and scenes had the same tone as the Japanese version.
Trivia: In the opening narration og the Original Uncut Edition. The narrator says 5000 years ago rather than 3000 years ago. Did 4Kids forget that they edited/ changed the narration in their dub??? I guess these DVDs are still technically edited lool
I’ve heard of this 4Kids did something to similar to Dbz as they released a remastered uncut version which is what Yugi-oh started doing it and unfortunately was cancelled after only 9 episodes which is such a shame it could have made the eng dub so good for Yugioh than it already was however it was worse and low effort as they just read the subtitles and didn’t localise anything
Sucks the uncut got canceled which was good and the dub was alright though could have been better,I wish they had Mai original voice actor for the dub.
It seems Dan Green's Twitter post states nothing about a Season 0 dub of the anime, just a reading of the manga. I got my hopes up, but I guess it's better than nothing.
I could be mistaken, but I’ve heard that anime (and potentially foreign films in general) is only able to receive a physical home video release in America if there’s a dub, that means that without the uncut dub there wouldn’t be a way to release the Subbed version of the show, as many of the changes 4Kids made changed the length of the show (such as adding more commercial breaks) meaning it would not be possible to sync up with the Japanese footage without a lot of changes
A good English dub would have done wonders. They should have just used the Japanese names and simply translated it and only change things as long as they preserve the original meaning. I'm personally more of a fan of close to the material as possible for translations but I also like Japanese culture...
I think my distaste for the 4Kids dub of Yu-Gi-Oh comes from my watching of an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh uncut on UA-cam a while back. For a while I HATED the 4Kids dub for all the censorship, changing of the names, and especially the formatting of the cards which has always been a sore spot for me. Nowadays that hatred is no more than a little irk in the back of my head but that mostly comes from the fact that I'll never not hate how the cards look on screen.
There is a big yugioh fanbase out there and i think i speak to everyone when i say a season zero remake needs to happen better animation darker story telling all the cool games ect and ofcourse DUBBING it with dan green. Wont happen but at least we all advocate for dan and eric to dub the exsisting season zero
This is so stupid they cancel it so early i like the idea of yugioh uncut the english voice actors are awesome they even said at some conventions they would be down to do a yugioh uncut if given the chance.
I have to disagree on the editing part. The text/cards should remain unchanged, because if they have to localize the cards as well then you might as well use the TCG versions of them, but then it would just retain the censorship (ex. Exodia). The whole goal of the uncut version was to be as close to the original Japanese. They definitely should have worked on the dub a little more before release tho. The voice direction is amazing, it really shows how much experience each VA has gained over the years but some dialogue comes out to be very awkward. You can tell it was a very direct translation of the Japanese version.
The only problems i have with this short lived dub are 1 the character names are a weird mix of the english and japanese name (i.e. Joey Katsuya and not Jounichi katsuya) and 2 that the opening and ending arent translated
I remember this dub, and bought all 3 of the released Yu-Gi-Oh volumes. It is a shame that this dub was never completed, it had so much potential. I didn't know about the uncut Shaman King dub, but would have probably bought that as well had I known about it at the time.
I honestly think it's possible that they dubbed a few seasons worth of episodes. Hell, the Ocean crew dubbed all of the original Dragon Ball Kai (not including buu saga), and it has yet to see the light of day.
Honestly, they should've done atleast 6 episodes a DVD. Majority of uncut Anime back in that time was atleast 6 episodes a disc. There was a bigger uncut anime market back then than you give credit. I had Chobits,Gate Keepers, Kurumi, Bubblegum Crisis 2024, Evangelion, multiple series from ADVfilms, all before 2005 having a lot more than just 3eps a disc. That turned me away from buyinh Yugioh uncut. I was going to wait until they got to the 2nd season. Oh well. I didn't mind the name mixing. It reminded me what they did in the English versions of Digimon.
The thing is, they only censored the anime in America because American companies wanted to market them to children. Because back then the mentality of American production studios is “Animation is for kids”. Which if anyone has done their research knows is totally bullshit. 🤣🤣 But if anyone actually researches these anime, they would learn they are NOT for “children” in Japan. For example, One Piece and Yugioh are both Shonen franchises. Shonen is a demographic term for both manga and anime that mainly target early to late teen boys between ages 12 and 18. Yes, this is for all Shonen manga and anime in general. Also Weekly Shonen Jump (the magazine One Piece and Yugioh are published in), is confirmed by it’s current chief-editor Hiroyuki Nakano to be for teen boys and that all their works we’re intended for 12 to 18 year old male readers and has been since the beginning of it’s first publication (which was 1968). And other Shonen magazine chief-editors have made the same statements as well. Also the Yugioh OCG (Official Card Game aka Japanese version) is actually for early to late teen players as every OCG pack or set all say on the back; “対象年齢12才以上” (Translation: “Target age 12 years and older”) Keep in mind, most countries (including Japan) use “12 and up” as the standard teen rating. And “15 and up” is considered a “soft-mature” rating in their country. Bur you’ll get the idea. And give the OCG’s complexity, it makes sense.
I remember watching those on UA-cam and back in the day. To be honest, while I like the uncut dub since it allows me to get a better idea of the story (since I prefer dubs more since I don't have to have my 100% undivided attention when I'm watching it and can just enjoy the story), but it had a lot of issues. The dialogue felt really stiff and awkward, but I think a lot of that has to do with translating the script too literally. It really goes to show why dubs should never be a 1:1 translation. As a long time fan, I recommend people to skip the anime and go read the manga instead, since it's darker, has a better translation than any of the English versions and stays true to Takahashi's vision more. I think we can all agree that the uncut dub's a lot better than the Singapore one.
I think since Yu-gi-oh is still relatively on the map with nostalgia and all that. Releasing a new dub for Yu-gi-oh would be a great idea. I feel like a lot of people would buy an actual acurate and well edited dub of Yu-gi-oh. Dub season 0 while there at it
Yeah uncut do mean they don´t touch anything. They only dub it. Not edit the footage. For a movie they could do that but for this on DVD it just is´t cost effective to do that. Just like any other countrie receaving a show from the US they don´t edit the text, maybe they did it once but nowdays they don´t. But suprised they did this, to bad they did´t finish it. A bit curious to see it.

It both looks and *sounds* amazing.
This? Bluh. Calling it mediocre would be giving it too much credit.
@@OneTrueNobody Pretty much. The uncut dub is so poorly made that people legitimately think that the japanese script just sucked, when...no, not really, they just translated it poorly and the voice actors sound tired as heck.
@@lpfan4491 It reads and sounds like somone just cleaned up a Google Translate doc and then tried to fit the syllables to the lip-syncing. I'd really like to see a "Viz Dub" situation happen with this anime; a re-do of the dub to fit the unchanged script, like what happened with Sailor Moon.
What a blast from the past! I had these growing up! I didn’t know what they were (or rather, what it meant by “original and uncut” - I had kinda assumed it meant that it didn’t have commercial cuts or something?) but I thought it was weirdly redundant that we had these three discs and then the full-season CD collections for seasons 1-3.
@lpfan4491 "for some reason"
For the same reason English viewers watch the Japanese dub with English subtitles. 4Kids were earnest and good-hearted in their misguided censorship efforts, which led to them creating something new and original.
Dude I’m still debating whether or not I should watch the entire franchise dub or sub or fuck it both lmao
@@KopperNeoman Yeah, and looking back I give them the benefit of the doubt because they were still trying to write around stricter (and probably xenophobic) content regulation boards. At the same time, I'm still someone who says DM and GX are the only two series where I'd bother with the dub (and would still recommend watching the original Japanese episodes subbed if possible).
@@Krbrx_DCD Personal take: Everything from 5Ds onward is just flat out better watching subbed, unless you're someone who wants to note down all the differences across releases. Duel Monsters and GX are worth watching both subbed and dubbed (though GX S4 never got dubbed).
Arc-V might be worth skipping entirely since it's probably the worst overall series regardless of language.
Excited for the manga dub!!
I'm so glad someone actually talked about Yugioh uncut! It was so hard to come by and only lasted such a small amount of time I almost thought I dreamed the whole thing lol
Season 0 Dub!? That's something I've wanted for years! It's also really sad that the uncut version was cancelled because the original 4kids dub really took a lot out. I would have loved to see the full story and details while not having to read subtitles.
"Exodia obliterate "is one of my favorite lines from almost any anime
woah, memory unlocked. these were the versions i had on DVD!
Honestly would watch the anime just to hear more kaiba lines tbh him and Madera unchiha are arguably best sounding dubs at least for me it is
Season 0 is actually my favorite i got all the manga up until it became duel monsters centric i love that each chapter centers around a Japanese 80s/90s toy fad
I remember stumbling onto these uncut Yugioh episodes in box sets at my local Kmart" back when they were still around.
Never bought them because I was 14 at the time.
Oh, I remember when this came out, I have vivid memories of being confused as a kid about why they needed to advertise YuGiOh on my YuGiOh dvd.
I believe the issue was with Yugis original Japanese voice actor rights. Wasn’t an issue for DSOD and I believe it has been resolved
Yeah there was a huge deal with him. I remember when the Bonds Beyond Time movie was coming out there were restrictions on even using his voice in JAPANESE trailers on TV! Insane and I still don’t know why? Is it because he’s mostly a live action actor whose only voice acting role is Yuugi?
Yeah, I heard it had something to do with Yugi's Japanese voice actor who also sung the opening song for Duelist Kingdom all the way to the beginning of the Battle City arc and this fuck with A LOT of Yugioh Duel Monsters related things, not just the Uncut Dub or 4kids releasing the Japanese sub in the West.
@@retrogamer6403 Dang, GX is indeed a true sequel then, because part of the reason that anime ended early was reportedly that Judai's VA had other plans. It's incredibly funny what is going on here.
@@lpfan4491 Matthew Charles? That would be strange since judging from Duel Links he could've handle voicing a much edgier Jaden and does reprise the role, but it does explain why he largely stop voice acting after Jaden and only returns to voice Jaden.
@@retrogamer6403 No, KENN, that's why I specified the japanese name. The dub couldn't have had any relation to why the japanese series ended early(In the style of "we won't continue if we can't bring it to the west"), because it never even touched Season 4.
This channel deserves more views.
Thanks!
It was pretty cool watching the uncut dub I wish they finished it Edit: that seems pretty cool a dubbed version of the early Yugioh manga
They redid the dubs of Cardcaptors also, and Dragon Ball multiple times, who’s to say Yu-Gi-Oh couldn’t do the same? The voice actors are some of the most perfectly cast which I don’t know if you can say often for other dubs
Except it wasn’t redone, they just took the Animax dub and synched it to the Japanese footage
I would love too see the season 0 dubbed with Dan green and Eric. Idk when that’ll be finished or released if at all but that’s a cool note.
I think about Dan Green saying "you are very weak" more often than I should.
What about “then beat me please”
If they ever did a definite and uncut dub, my eishlist would be
-Original cast where available
-4Kids soundtrack (sorry it's just better)
-Iconic dub lines and sense of humour kept
-No censorship, dark parts treated with deserved seriousness
-Make Kaiba a little more like his Japanese version
It's sad that the creator of the series died.😭😭
I have these DVDs.
It's been 20 years. We more than deserve a proper uncut dub as adults who are still loving fans.
4kids is a joke funimation is the best i really wish that they dubbed all of yugioh series with dan green as Atem/Yugi of course
W dan green
W eric stuart
A fascinating note in one of my favorite series. Also, your use of Asuras Wrath really lit my fire today. Asuras Wrath is one of my favorite games of all time.
Even though future YGO anime post-Go Rush seems more focused on adapting card lore, I'd love to see a directly faithful adaptation of the Duel Monsters manga (and maybe Yu-Gi-Oh! R) if possible thanks to differences between it and the original DM anime (also because DSOD exists as a manga follow-up, as opposed to GX and 5Ds being direct follow-ups to the anime).
Simply put, the uncut wasn't done after 9 mainly because of their greediness of the US companies that were behind the scenes. I don't see any chance of a recast of the undub anymore.
Dude I’d be totally down for that dub of the OG manga. That’s yu-gi-oh at its peak.
This company can save Yu-Gi-Oh! uncut!!!
This one was pretty unique, honestly if there was a real reason and let's be honest, they were lazy and couldn't be bothered to do it.
While I'd love for Season 0 to be dubbed, I'm perfectly fine with the manga being dubbed instead, as the Filler Arcs were done as good as possible in the dub
I remember finding these DVDs at a Half Price Books like a decade ago, always thought there were more sad to hear that’s not the case
I've thought I was dreaming when I remembered Tea calling Mai a Hussie.
Where’s me season 0 dub!?
I am glad that english dubs now a days are uncut and uncensored.
Wait there's not only "Yu-Gi-Oh! Uncut" but "Shaman King Uncut" too? :O
I remember how excited I was for their Shaman king uncut.
I'd love to see a proper uncut release of Yu-Gi-Oh! DM as well as a dub of the original story.
Screw Yu-Gi-Oh uncut, where's a modern remasted/ dub of Season Zero
That was shaman king.
@@dwainsimmons3447 yeah but also yugioh
Sucks the uncut got canceled which was good and the dub was alright though could have been better,I wish they had Mai original voice actor for the dub.
Need this version of Yu-Gi-Oh now more than ever Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged is almost done something has to fill that void.
no way i just logged into surfshark a sec ago and the algorithm led your content to me lol
I love your yugioh content!
I'm glad you enjoy it :)
It seems Dan Green's Twitter post states nothing about a Season 0 dub of the anime, just a reading of the manga. I got my hopes up, but I guess it's better than nothing.
I wish we got more uncut stuff back then. It made me kinda sad because I actually had the uncut version of shaman king
Yeah I got over “exodia obliterate” really fast after watching the sub and uncut
I could be mistaken, but I’ve heard that anime (and potentially foreign films in general) is only able to receive a physical home video release in America if there’s a dub, that means that without the uncut dub there wouldn’t be a way to release the Subbed version of the show, as many of the changes 4Kids made changed the length of the show (such as adding more commercial breaks) meaning it would not be possible to sync up with the Japanese footage without a lot of changes
absolutely blows my mind you only have 5k subs, like bro what?? you deserve so much more
Thanks!
Or possibly parents complaining that the Uncut was too violent and too demonic for children.
I want to see season 0 dubbed as well. The extra friend always interested me.
This is so stupid they cancel it so early i like the idea of yugioh uncut the english voice actors are awesome they even said at some conventions they would be down to do a yugioh uncut if given the chance.
Thank you for talking about this. I'm so fortunate to own the three uncut DVDs. 🙂
Omg the ending of the video.
I remember this dub, and bought all 3 of the released Yu-Gi-Oh volumes. It is a shame that this dub was never completed, it had so much potential. I didn't know about the uncut Shaman King dub, but would have probably bought that as well had I known about it at the time.
Congrats on 5k!!
Thanks so much!
I wish they could have done more uncut
I honestly think it's possible that they dubbed a few seasons worth of episodes. Hell, the Ocean crew dubbed all of the original Dragon Ball Kai (not including buu saga), and it has yet to see the light of day.
That Mario Golf track in the background.
But if anyone actually researches these anime, they would learn they are NOT for “children” in Japan.
Also the Yugioh OCG (Official Card Game aka Japanese version) is actually for early to late teen players as every OCG pack or set all say on the back; “対象年齢12才以上”
(Translation: “Target age 12 years and older”)
Keep in mind, most countries (including Japan) use “12 and up” as the standard teen rating.
And “15 and up” is considered a “soft-mature” rating in their country.
Bur you’ll get the idea. And give the OCG’s complexity, it makes sense.
I never understood why we never got the z-one duel in 5 d’s as Timelords are one of my favorite archetypes.
There was another uncut English dub of Yu-Gi-Oh, which was licensed by Odex in Singapore.
I've been searching for it.
Sucks we never got the entire dub uncut. It would've done great had they released this on cartoon network on adult swim or toonami's midnight run.
3:58 Wait, what’s with Mario being in the 4Kids poster? Was there some hint of a Mario cartoon at the time?
I had to look because I knew I had two volumes of this. I forgot I only have volume 1 and 3. Funny to think I got these from Walmart back in the day.
I think since Yu-gi-oh is still relatively on the map with nostalgia and all that. Releasing a new dub for Yu-gi-oh would be a great idea. I feel like a lot of people would buy an actual acurate and well edited dub of Yu-gi-oh. Dub season 0 while there at it
They need to release the sub in Blu ray and dvd
Curious that the sigil being portrayed on Yu-Gi-Oh’s forehead was the symbol of the order of the Golden Dawn 🤔🤔
While in Brazil, our dub is absolutely PERFECT.
Now a Spanish video will be out soon 😂😂😂
Excelente video, en algún futuro hablaras de 5D’s ? … es mi anime favorito de Yugioh, saludos !
Yes!
Still salty that Kaiba is not in capsule monsters
I remember them marketing it in the Shonen Jump mags at the time
Rip Kazuki Takahashi
It sounds like you had no idea that there was a manga before Duel Monsters and there was a final part called, Millenium World that was replaced with Capsule Monsters. They didnt want to show the Egyptian parts of the anime. Thats what was censored.
I hope the ‘98 series and Duel Monsters at least get updated English subbed releases in the future.
