Fiskars owns Gerber, but charges more for identical Gerber brand axes.
The Fiskars X series is the flagship line, but you can get almost identical Fiskars axes for less by going with their equivalent line of black axes.

I've cut and split wood all my life and this tool is revolutionary. Period. I have this axe for big wood and the wife uses the next smaller one in the house to split kindling and knock down a piece once in a while. Both will split wood far beyond their size indicates. Head speed is the trick, like a golf club, or a baseball bat. I wish I'd had this thing 50 years ago!
Getting the X25 changed my wood splitting life. I just love that thing.
Pengepugeren getting mine in about a week, looking forward to it!
Just ordered mine online today!
I’m a sixty four year old grandmother and I’m buying one of these because I loved your demo and you sold me on the fact that I need an axe.
LOL you rock! You can do it! My 130 lb wife swings the X27 better than most men and so can you!
Someone stole my maul out of my truck and the guy at a hardware store recommended this. Almost half the price as my maul and I'm kind of glad they stole it lol. He's right they are beasts.
Fiskars founded 1649, can't get much more traditional than that!
traditional nylon filled plastic handles from 1649, yes!
Had an x27 for about 12 years now . Split dozens and dozens of cords of wood with it . Fantastic tool . And unbreakable.
They will break but you get a new one if you send the old one back.
I approve of this review!
Incidentally, I went with the Gerber Freescape 36 inch (exact same item as the Fiskars x27, except that it is green and black instead of orange and black). Fiskars, all day long... twice on sundays!
I bought the X27 a year and half ago for $48 on ebay. Its a great splitting axe. I have split some on the gnarliest balsam fir rounds with it. I like both fiberglass and traditional hickory. The steel is softer but makes it easy to sharpen. I don't have to sharpen it often though. I just use a regular standard bastard file too. My mother recently bought me the Husqvarna S2800 splitting axe for my birthday. I like that as well. Its made by Gardena and retails for $100. The handle is more comfortable but is only 27 1/2 inches long. I'm not picky about axes, I like all the axes, I have. Different axes for different applications. Mostly splitting though. I like the hefty 5.07 pound head and approximately a half inch longer beard or edge. the head profile is more slim line and not as robust as the X27. The poll is made for pounding plastic or aluminum wedges too. Is it worth $100 I think so. Another feature i like is the metal over strike guard on the Husqvarna. I'm an experienced splitter not to brag, that's not my nature but everyone over strikes, now and again. Splitting firewood has been a love and hobby of mine since I was 14 years old. I only wish I picked up a chainsaw, sooner than I did. I can't make my mind up about which axe i like better, too soon. just comparing and contrasting for now. Those are my only modern fiberglass handled axes. Great and humorous video.
Just ordered mine yesterday. Thanks for the review
Splitting ability, yep, toughness, yep, value for money, yep. As for shock absorbing I prefer a hickory handle for long splitting sessions - this thing makes my wrists ache, and yes, I tend to use the handle flare to loosen my grip slightly as I hit the wood.
Not selling my X27 any time soon tho...or my X21...or X11...
Yep, agreed, no idea why this guy thinks it’s “shock absorbing”. It’s most definitely not, the handle is soooo stiff it translates far more of the shock to your body. My X27 gives me tennis elbow.
But undoubtedly they are incredible axes for splitting, very durable, very VERY effective, great balance and weight, and rarely gets stuck. Generally it either splits it, or bounces, not sticks. For anyone looking to buy one, it’s a really great axe, great value, but definitely not “shock absorbing”!
Yep, wood is definitely more comfortable when it comes to vibrations. But at the same time it's overall lighter and faster, so in many cases it's probably more comfortable just because you can do your job bit more effectively.
a confession; I judge people based how they assess Fiskars axes. I like you 🪓✨
lol your hilarious!
My X10 sat in a stump outside for years, i had totally forgotten about it, so a week back i found it again and it had a thick layer of rust on the axehead because i had used it for 5 years prior and the coating had worn off. I took it inside and wirewheeled the rust off and reprofiled the edge. Gave the edge a mirror finish and now it's going strong again. Really amazing axes, the handle is a little dirty and the text has worn off but other than that it looks exactly like when i bought it.
Do you still use it?
I dont like the idea that it cant be an heirloom. Just because it doesnt look like your granddads doesn't mean it wont be your grandkid's heirloom.
Don't let wranglerstar see this video
Everything you said about Fiskars is true. Love my X27 and I have many many hours on it. You would also enjoy the Fiskars 8lb Isocore maul. Great for those larger or knottier rounds. You won't be disappointed.
I have a head from an X27 which would beg to differ with your opinion that it ain't coming off. I have no idea what happened, my kids managed to break it while I was away. Can't find the handle which is annoying but it's broken, that's for sure.
I like your splitting block setup.
I cut and split by chainsaw and axe - about 7 cords of wood a season. A LOT. Ash, oak, cherry, and other various hard woods. I been burning through about 2 axes a season just from beating the shit out of wood, my strikes are solid and accurate but the fiberglass ones just cant hold up - mostly from reloading on hard pieces that dont split first swing- pulling it up loosens the head eventually.
I JUST got the Fiskars, i gotta say- i need to get used to the hollow handle - but WOW so far.
On that note. When the video first started this guys form scared me that he was going to skive off and hit some shit he doesnt want too haha. Also with a shitty axe and a hard hit - i foresee a shoulder injury.
It's worth noting that the X25 (28") and the 28" Super Splitter (all-black handle) *is* very different. The head on the all-black 28" is much smaller than the X25. It still has the wedged splitting profile, but the head is much lighter. It's tough to tell from online info and photos, but I purchased both to compare and finally figured out how they differ.
The 25 in X25 represents the weight of the axe head in kilograms. 2.5kg is 5.51 pounds.
Anytime you see “Super Splitting Axe,” it’s going to be a 32” handle.
There are two main head types for Fiskars axes, chopping and splitting. People often conflate these two. The chopping axe head will be thinner and lighter. The splitting head has the same shape, but add a wedge to either side to increase the overall angle.
I think you might be mistaken somewhere here. If you have a super splitter, it’s a 36”, not 28”. If the head is lighter, they might not be the same type.
@@sterlingroberts6240 I’ve encountered (as in had it in my hands next to the X25) an all black-handled splitting axe with a thinner splitting wedge head. They exist! 😀. I also have an X15 chopper so I have seen all three head types together.
@@nphipps2 and the all black one is 28”?
@@sterlingroberts6240 Yup, sure is. I tried posting a link to it but I think it's getting blocked. It's sold on Ace Hardware's website. It's sold as "Fiskars 2.25 lb Single Bit Splitting Axe Fiberglass Handle. Item #7365893"
@@nphipps2, weird. I wonder if all black handled fiskars are thinner/lighter in the head. I’ll take mine to Tractor Supply tomorrow or something. Very odd.
i liked this review , I got the fiskars X27 for 4-5 years now and loved it immediatly .
Had the orange one.
Someone stole it.
Awesome axe.
Bought the black one.
I don't have any real world complaints.
Also, that sharpening tool feels like cheating.
I was very impressed.
I have an x 27 and I love it.
I've seen the handles on these break. When they do you are left with useless metal that can't be re-hung.
Who realistically has problems overswinging? I've never done it
Someone broke it! spread the word around the globe!

Haven’t watched the video yet, just off the start, as someone who enjoys chopping wood as a cathartic meditation, this is the best AXE I have ever used, it’s tough as hell, well made, the edge is razor sharp and literally slips through the wood 🪵👍🏼😁
Nice video thank you
Ok I usually don't give likes on videos but this guy deserves it heck while am at it ama subscribe to this guy wonderful review👏👏
I remember Hotforwords used the song you used in your outro. Early UA-cam mammories :)
Why do you have those small bricks of wood drilled to the splitting platform / block of wood?
I’m a believer
Fiskars is from Finland
Niin on ja hyvä myös.
New fiskars norden!
Is it dishwasher safe?
+Tin Man. You are the handy man ; )
What purpose do the small wood chunks serve that appear to be screwed in around your chopping block/round? Thanks for the helpful review.
I stack old tires over the chopping block to keep the wood upright while chopping. It makes chopping wood at least 30% more efficient. No more bending over to pick up pieces. Its brilliant saves so much time and energy. Plus its safer if you overstrike or understrike the rubber absorbs the blow
those little blocks just hold the tires up
@@WellRigged makes sense. thanks!
How's the vibration compared to a wooden handle?
Look for a moment at the provided video....especially the slow motion. Fiskers axes are a "back up or stand by axe". The heads are usually too light and honed incorrectly. The handle is light weight...even hollow. This platform is inherently weak, lightweight and not designed as a main purpose "working axe". Look at the video...a proper tool does most of the work for you...an inept tool makes you do most of the work. You shouldn't almost have to jump off the ground so an axe can perform a simple task. A proper weighted axe made with the correct materials will last longer..and enable you to work longer. This comment is paid for...like this "review video" is.
an honest but wood is came from holly"wood" studios i think. When they present never show to cut a gnarled wood how is.
Amazon had them on sale and now one's in the mail, eh.
Try that on Australian red gum!
Been splitting wood by hand for 30 years. This is one of my favorite tools of all time!
Cutting edge chips a lot!! Good axe, but wouldn't trust my "life" with it......good for around the yard. But if you're talking a REAL survival axe, quality wood axe, period.
Bought the X17, can't wait to swing it outside.
Fiskars norden Axe?
A hipster axe, very nice tough
The best Chopper there is .There isn't any other .
bullshit, you just proved yourself to be an amateur.
The steel on this is very soft, doesn’t hold its edge. The vibration and kickback on the hollow handle will make you arthritic after splitting a cord of wood. Any axe worth $20 with same length handle and similar profile will split exactly the same. Just like he said - it’s all in the physics.
Yes, the metal is softer, but no bad. I split 2 1/2 cords with it this summer and only sharpened it twice. Disagree about the handle though. Far less shock than a wooden handle. To each there own I suppose.
i split australian hardwood with my x27, have yet to experience any such vibration or kickback for that matter from having a hollow handle... perhaps you do, but i cant say i have /shrug YMMV i suppose
@Alex Povolotski, do you actually own a Fiskars X27? Have you actually used one? Or are you just repeating internet mis-information? I have one and it’s totally opposite of what you describe. It holds an edge. How hard do you want the steel to be? Any good tool requires maintenance and sharpening. And the handle absorbs more shock than a wooden handle. Sounds like you’re just basing you comment on biases you have against synthetic handled tools vs wood.
@@MrBigTexFyre Must be Wranglerstar fan.
@@WellRigged I saw so many fiskars products returned at Canadian tire due to broken handles. I'll stick to wood any day...at the least the wood is replaceable.
Dope
I over struck and the head broke off and Fiskers would not warranty. Do not believe the Lifetime Warranty Claim...
wow! was it really cold when it happened or are you just super strong?
@@WellRigged
Absolutely not, maybe a dud ....
@G Galilei
Troll! You idiot...I lived that experience. Fixers totally ignored my request to warranty the axe. The life time warranty claim is shit. It's a lie...They don't come through. Jesus!!
@@wildman4642 You try to benefit warranty . Ha ha .Are you serious ...Nice try ....You are not a man with axe , sorry to say .
