    I still think cruise lines should include the daily gratuities in their advertised prices.

    I think the combination of 75% return of the fare, and 75% future cruise benefit is very generous. I'm sure it is disappointing for folks on the cruise, but we just take things like that in stride and try to keep a positive attitude.

    If they can't get their propulsion problem on the Sapphire Princess fixed, I think they should offer full refunds. Glacier Bay will be one of the lost stops for sure every time they cruise if they can't make speed. Ships have a very tight time window to visit Glacier Bay & I think for a lot of people it's the highlight of their cruise. I hope they give people that option at least on future sailings if they can't get the Sapphire up to speed!

    I got off the Sapphire Princess on May 7th after a 32 day cruise. I think the ship is showing its age and having several issues, we had fans running numerous times around the ship and outside our cabin door to dry the water from the carpets. Many toilets in public areas not working throughout the cruise, also washers and dryers with Out of Order signs in the three laundry rooms we used. Maintenance worked on our balcony slider door twice and didn't fix the problems with opening and closing the slider. The tiles around the pool area are falling off and the crew put out beach towels with gross stains, not what you would expect from a premier cruise line. These are minor issues compared to the propulsion problem but they are examples of a ship showing her age. I am happy to hear Princess is offering the compensation for the Alaska cruise.

    I think princess is offering a generous offer for compensation. We we’re on the ship when the problem started the evening of the 10th. The captain came on and made an announcement around 11 PM that we would be arriving in Vancouver four hours late due to the propulsion issue. At that point I would say it was too late to notify the guests that were arriving in Vancouver to embark the next morning. Although I understand the disappointment, in not being able to see the places you had hoped to see, they are still able to enjoy the ship and all that it has to offer for the full week and receive a 75% refund as well as 75% future cruise credit. I personally think that is commendable of Princess. However, I think if the problem is not resolved they should be notifying future guests, and giving them the option to cancel if they so choose.

    Silversea is owned by RCI, Seabourn is owned by Carnival. Carnival Corp made the announcement in April, also to begin full pricing on July 1. It was for all of their "American" brands, I believe. So Royal is following suit... here's hoping that NCL, MSC, and Disney will follow!

    Regarding the pricing change, I wonder how they're going to deal with solo cruisers. Currently we solo cruisers usually pay double fares but we do NOT pay double taxes and fees, nor do we pay double gratuities. I don't have a good feeling about this.

    It's such a hard topic to comment on because people cruise for such a variety of reasons and no one answer is going to make everyone happy. I just hope they get it fixed and running 100% soon. We just got off tje Sapphire Princess in Vancouver on Saturday and she is a beautiful ship with an amazing crew. I hope we have the opportunity to sail on her again.

    Some who get to cruise frequently will laud what Princess is giving, but I personally feel the compensation package definitely should be generous. These passengers lost not just one port but several, including the highlight of sailing Glacier Bay. While the cruise line can't help the mechanical issue, this may be the only opportunity these passengers had to do Alaska. With air fare, hotels pre-cruise, etc., it is something we have only been able to do once, and we would have been so disappointed. I know some will say that at least they were able to cruise, but I can do that from where I live for far less money than we spent for Alaska. I agree that Princess is doing the best they can given the circumstances, but it is still a huge loss for those who are part of this trip.

    As you were talking, I was remembering that I went to most of those places in 1976 at the bicentennial. Wow, it has been almost 50 years. How is that even possible?! I am sad to hear about the ongoing issues with the Sapphire Princess. It was such a good ship in January when I did South America and Antarctica, and I feel really bad for the passengers missing Ketchikan and Glacier Bay as those were definitely high on my want-to-see list. In fact, we chose the cruise (in 2007) because I really wanted to go to Ketchikan. It reminds me of visiting the Grand Canyon in January when it was filled with fog. It was kind of cool as I had been before, but I felt really bad for the European tourists who could see nothing. I am glad to hear about the refund and FCC offers.

    Curious how the new way of pricing will effect single cruisers, will they now be paying double taxes and port fees because it is now part of the price instead of separate items?

    My thought with this most recent cruising, Princess has offered everyone a good deal. It is disappointing but if anyone was limited to those specific dates at least they still got a cruise and reimbursement. My concern is for future sailings on Sapphire. I do have a cruise booked to Antartica in January and I definitely would expect a heads up prior to my cruise date on what to expect.

    While they are doing far more then when the crown was limping along and the sewages issues., but and this is a big but, missing both scenic cruises and a port the cruise should have either outright cancelled it or still sail and give the option for guests to cancel with a full refund or given the options to transfer to a different ship leaving within a a couple of the original sailing from Vancouver or Seattle with no added cost, because loosing both glaciers and only visiting two ports for a reduced times in my opinion make the sailing not even worth it.

  • @terrybarber9769
    @terrybarber9769 3 місяці тому

    If sailing is delaying the problem with the ship that should be their first priority. Last Alaska season I think it was the Crown that needed fixing and they just sailed and missed ports all summer. I think it’s better to cancel a few cruises and fix the issue than give their guests only a small portion of what they expected. What a disappointment for those folks.

    I never assume I will get to every port or that the ship will be able to maintain schedules, simply because it's a ship on the sea and at the mercy of mother nature. As well, on the sea, you can't just nip into a service station or swap ships, like you can with coaches and vans. If I want to see some site or event or a "bucket list" port, I will book a much more reliable land tour (done 33 countries to date, with nothing missed). But if I want the ocean (which I love), then I cruise. I think what they are offering in this situation is reasonable.

  • @karenjensen2345
    @karenjensen2345 3 місяці тому

    Hopefully they will swap out the ship for our Group cruise to Antarctica or send it to be fixed big time!!! Otherwise we will cancel, that big of a bucket list cruise missing anything is a deal breaker.

    Princess cancelled the Longyearbyen, Svalbard port before it sailed, but after the date where we could cancel without penalty. The kicker is, Princess knew or should have known, the Island Princess wasn't allowed to port there due to environmental regulations. They knew this long before the sailing date, and didn't let passengers know until it was too late to cancel without penalty. I think Princess should have a class action suit against them.

    We are supposed to sail on the Sapphire in November for a Southern Caribbean cruise, we are considering canceling and booking a different ship for the same cruise, or maybe even a different cruise line. We would like to do it now since we are still outside of the penalty window and, hopefully, can still find some decent rates for a cruise. What do you think?

    Finally, the cruise industry advertised sneaky pricing has been disrobed. Now, to bring prices down to justifiable levels, we cruisers need to pause cruising, forcing them into chapter 7 bankruptcy, and the remaining companies will pick up ships at bargain prices and begin to operate without the immense debt they currently face. Yes, cruisers are paying dearly for questionable management decisions.

    I know someone who visited Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson's home and they said they have gone woke, presenting George Washington and Thomas Jefferson as terrible people. They spoke mostly about their personal lives as slave owners and little about them being founding fathers and the creation of the Constitution. I hope that on this tour people will be given a more balanced view of both men and the times in which they lived.
