      A PFD is important item but we covered that in a separate video.

      I love the rod holder idea with the cutting board. I may steal that one.

      My PFD is a $20 snorkel vest. They are bright and you just wear it like a vest. No need to blow it up till you need it.
      The blow up valve is to one side of your chin!

    First time watcher. Just bought my first kayak to fish. I know nothing. So thank you for the info, but mostly not talking just to hear yourself talk like most. All info, to the point, no nonsense. Keep up the great work. Thanks again 👍🏻

    I live in the midwest but man, from my little experience sitting on top of a school of Spanish Mackerel in a kayak sounds fun as hell.

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  2 роки тому

      Spanish are fun to catch the first few times but we are fortunate enough to have a ton of other species to chase.

    When I first started yak fishing I brought everything under the sun. I found that it added more weight than functionality. I pared it down to no crate, a Plano compartmented box, select few lures and tackle and 2 rods. And found that I have more than enough room for a small cooler and my live baitwell.

    I’m a bass fishing angler but my family and I travel to Navarre once every year and I fish off the pier for Spanish and redfish. Might have to bring my kayak along next time we go. Love Navarre.

    I happen to have all of those items (different brands/styles). I had to learn over the last six years that each one is important to have so this video is awesome for new folks!!! Save yourself some time and headaches and just get them as you can. You may only need the dehooker two or three times a year but it is a lifesaver...or finger saver...when you do. They really are that important! Great video and great info!

    I always have a bailing sponge. Great for soaking up a wet deck or gear, then wring it out over the sides and good to go.
    The sponges that floor tile installers use are best I find.
    And an empty mayo jar for #1.

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  4 роки тому +1

      The sponge is a solid idea but if you get the Predator/BigWater I don’t think you will ever need it. I’ve put guys in it over 280 lbs and never has water sit in the kayak.

    #1 must have for me is MARKER BOUEYS!
    NOT for marking structure but to keep loose in the kayak so when it rolls...
    I KNOW WHERE ALL MY STUFF WENT!
    By the time you grab some stuff, get situated and try to triangulate where you are, you may have drifted 30 feet from where you actually rolled.
    Believe me, I never found anything the first time I rolled... a couple years later I figured out that I'd drifted a long way before I tried to figure out where I was.

      I carry 9 of the ten mentioned. Thanks for the video. I would add an anchor. Made a world of difference fore me. Sometimes you want to drift, sometimes you want to stay in one spot.

      Great point! An anchor can be very useful. We fish a ton of shallow water so the push pole doubles as a stake out pole.

    What would u recommend to stop gators from coming after me while I’m trying to fish. Of course a gun is the most effective. But what if that’s not an option? Serious question btw.

    Nice video! But you should rename it "10 kayak BASS fishing must haves". I fish Chinook King salmon on the Columbia River in Oregon and I have no use for a push pole, a plastic fish grip, a hook remover or a measuring stick. Be well and fish on!

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  2 роки тому +2

      Mark, we don’t fish for bass though. We use those items for a variety of species in the southern United States. Always cool to see the different requirements in other regions.

    How many rods do you carry and how do you rig them when inshore fishing? I am considering carrying 3. One for soft bait , One for top water , and one for live bait or hard plastic diving or spoons. Any suggestions or is that just to much? I’m not super fast at knot tying especially on windy days and want to spend more time fishing.

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  5 років тому +1

      Danny, three is perfect in my opinion. I carry one with a topwater, one with a suspending bait, and one with a 3" soft plastic the majority of the time. It allows me to cover the entire water column without retying.

    this may be a crazy question but do you sharpen your hooks? Im currently doing that with alot of them and I'm wondering if its a bad thing as in scraping off a coating that will make them rust quick.

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  5 років тому +2

      I have never sharpened a hook. It may help but we have never had any issues catching fish!

      I know how to tie a trucker's hitch. Much better than a ratchet strap. Seen a lot of failures with a strap. None with a properly tied rope.
