Well done Emily.😸 Certainly opened my eyes to some of the very cool, key features in both the S and RS line and the notable details unique to the RS! Awesome. It truly is the quality of attention to things such as those little ‘Easter egg’ details that stand out in my mind and what separates a run-of-the-mill vehicle review to one delivered with passion as you have here. It really comes across as a true enthusiast, which I emphatically appreciate.🫶 Also, I think your pace of information flow and speech are excellent - not too fast or slow. Some of you are asking why the exhaust on SQ8 sounds better. This happens because the SQ8 has lower turbo pressure and therefore less horsepower. The higher the psi/pressure of the turbo, the more of a muted sound. You can even tweak it from the software to have less psi and less hp, making it even better sounding. Lower it from 507 hp to 450, do a muffler delete and voila! Best sound audi V8 of this generation

If you're actually shelling out that kind of scratch for a car, the price between the two is negligible. RS all the way. Great presentation of the two...well done and professional.
Allocation availability is a huge challenge. Personally, I would have preferred the RS but I couldn’t find a dealership with a changeable order that was going to be built in the next 6 months that was also charging MSRP. Granted, I didn’t call every Audi dealer in the nation but I ended up going SQ8 because I could get it quickly (4-5 months) and at MSRP. I can modify the appearance items I like to better match the RS myself with aftermarket, and I can also make performance upgrades to get those more in line with the RS and still come in around the MSRP price of the RS.
@@austrausky Exactly what I did. Went to order RSQ8 in Canada and was told they won't have allocation till end of 2023/Beginning 2024. Was able to order a 2023 SQ8 with the options I wanted and it came in 7 months :)
@@stas1li I absolutely love the SQ8, and I’ve been able to customize it enough that I don’t miss the RS. Simple tune from APR got me the missing power, and I’ve been able to do tons of cosmetic upgrades easily. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine 😁
For some models I prefer the rs like I prefer the rs6 than the A6 but for a big SUV like the Q8 i don't see the point of getting an rs especially if you live in Europe with all the environmental taxes which are already huge and are becoming even bigger, plus the Q8/SQ8 is more good looking than the rsq8

Your videos are on an entirely different level! So good! Thanks for the comparison I had been waiting for. Side by side there are quite obvious differences. We are in the market and thinking of going with the Q8 (once crazy supply chain issues subside…..hopefully by 2024?) We test drove the base model though and it seemed a bit underpowered. The SQ8 feels like the sweet spot but that RS is just astounding. Wondering if you could drive the RS as a daily driver or if it’s like driving an exotic sports car….stiff and totally impractical for the day to day around town. Anyway, your enthusiastic knowledge of the Audi brand, well thought out camera angles to see the details, and helpful post production text inserts set you vastly apart from other car reviewers. I have had the opportunity to drive an RSQ8 in the winter and in the summer, it truly can do it all. With the Adaptive air ride suspension and different drive modes, it is never harsh. The black RSQ8 in this video is my customer and is intending on driving it year round in the Minnesota snow! As I am sure you are aware, Germany is really struggling with the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. 100% of their fuel and most of their energy comes from one of those countries. And for Audi, a LOT of parts and nearly all of the wiring harnesses come from Ukraine. So Audi is really struggling. They announced a week or so ago that they will produce what has been allocated but no additional cars will be produced at this time. They are done making 2022 model year cars. They will have a much longer shut down this summer than normal. They are hoping to open the factories back up before fall. So much is up in the air right now. I truly hope that by the end of this year things start to tick up again and by the end of 2023 we are getting close to normal. But only time will tell. I hope this sheds some light on the things going on behind the scenes.
Thanks for the additional information, Emily! I had no idea the war in Ukraine with Russia completely stopped Audi from getting wire harnesses and other necessary components. Let’s pray for the people of Ukraine during this sad and horrific time in their history of their country. 🙏🏻 Sounds like these market adjustments for Audi and other car manufacturers will continue for quite some time. I appreciate your comments on the RSQ8. Good to know that it can be dialed down and used as a daily driver. Tell the lucky new owner to enjoy!
Excellent video, in the UK now for 2022 the SQ8 has the blacked out Audi rings front and back. Now the petrol 4.0 V8 twin-turbo is also in the SQ8, think I might prefer the SQ8 as the performance is only slightly lower, plus in UK you can also get all grey or all red seats on the SQ8, with the RS it’s just the stitching that is a different colour so a black seat…the Arras red interior is very nice. Think I also prefer the quads pipes as well. Both lovely cars, but the SQ8 (with red interior) for me!

Really great comparison -- thanks so much for posting! I've got an SQ8 on order (arriving May or June 2022) and have been wondering about body differences vs the RS. This answered all of the questions I had, and gave me ideas for exactly what I want to do first for mods to my SQ8 when it arrives (like the rear diffuser, for sure) :-) Keep the awesome Audi content flowing!
@@wazgoodjj Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for this to happen. There has been quite a bit of turn over in the automotive world. Most sales consultants don’t care to take the time and learn the vehicles and what makes them different. So this does not surprise me at all.
@@wazgoodjj bs to what? Dealership was happy to provide lots of information, but did not have either an SQ8 or RSQ8 in stock for me to see. Also, they weren’t 100% certain on all of the differences just what they could share from the brochure which was mostly performance and options. Not every sales team at every dealership is considerably educated on all products. When I ordered my C8 Corvette in 2020, I often knew waaaaaaaay more than the dealership about the car and process.
Thank you for this in depth head to head. I’m went for the more affordable SQ8 simply for financial reasons. Of course I would prefer a whole 100hp more with the RSQ8. I do however prefer the SQ8 exhaust note better. Overall… they’re both the meanest SUV on the market right now. Other than the Urus, to which these vehicles are so damn similar why would I ever pay 250-300k for a Urus. Thank you Audi for making these beasts! Mine is being delivered in a few days and I can’t wait!!!
What a great compact but precise comparison review! I really enjoyed it Basically Audi SQ8/RSQ8 is real great cars and very well-made SUV with great handing etc.. Adding to that they use same platform with Cayenne & URUS Also, they share a lot of things together as all of them are owned by Volkswagen Group Especially SQ8/RSQ8's engine are same engine on URUS & Cayenne - 4.0L V8 And then tuned differently by Audi RS, Lamborghini and Porsche respectively But in my opinion, overall, Audi RSQ8 is the best choice with highly reasonable price tag and it is the fastest super-SUV Also it has the fastest SUV record on Nurburgring track!

Nice video. Love the RSQ8, SQ8 sounds better though. Just bought 2022 Q3 S Line Premium Plus & enjoy the features and handling. RSQ8 is a little out of my budget.
As I’m actively thinking about changing my current Q8 Tdi 50. The SQ8 is probably my choice because it’s cheaper and with a re-map it will achieve 590 b.h.p. So no difference in the performance. The sound is great on both cars. Either one is good. I would be nice if the girl could talk slower. Dam me it’s not a verbal race. Slow girl.
@@aaronbrown1758 they are super hard to come by. We only have 1 incoming. I will do my best to get a video of it. It is pre sold so the customer may come get it before I get the chance.

I have seen one or two people do that, but I could have sworn that Audi had an option for it but I can't find it on the order guide. I would imagine that Audi will come out with some sort of real exhaust for it at some point.
Thank you Emily!! This is the most informative video I've found on the SQ8/RSQ8 comparison hands down. I am looking at ordering a 2023 SQ8 but I have a couple of questions comparing the 2. 1. Aside from tuning via programming are the engines and transmissions the same? 2. You showed a few extra options in the menu for the RS- can the SQ8's software be programmed to provide the same options/menus? I'm guessing yes because nowadays so much is software defined but I don't know. 3. If the above mentioned software patch were applied to the SQ8 would that allow for the air suspension to match the slightly lower ride heigh of the RSQ8t that you highlighted in the video? 4. Thank you again for being such a knowledgeable resource on audi! This will be my first car from the brand:)
I am glad you found some of the info you were looking for! 1: Aside from the factory tunes, you are correct the drivetrain is the same 2: This question is a bit hard to answer, you used to be able to "Unlock" so many features. But now Audi has made it incredibly hard to do so. Oftentimes the missing features require additional software, and if you add any software you will void your warranty. But, and I am not 100% sure of this, but if you have access to the factory ODIS tool found at Audi Dealerships and select aftermarket places in the country, you may be able to add these features. 3: The suspension is quite complicated, you can lower the SQ8 using many different aftermarket options but they can have problems or tire wear problems. I am not convinced that just changing to the RSQ8 software it will have the same effect. 4: I am so glad you enjoyed my videos!!
The RSQ8 also has a different front bumper . Under the headlights the SQ8 bumper stops with the color portion but on the RSQ8 the color portion of the bumper contours down and around the cooling vents and down above the lip on either side . Also some of the RSQ8s have flat bottom steering wheels if optioned . Small but subtle differences no body notices anyways lol .
Wow, the RSQ8 comes with differently stiched seats, option to switch between some setting profiles, and most importantly, AN RS BADGE ON THE VEHICLE ICON! WOW that's so worth it over the SQ8! It even has 91 more horsepowers that's a nice extra to have I guess.
The RS has way more options dude. Larger wheels, better styling, carbon fiber exterior trim, 100 more HP, better brakes, and waaaaay better exhaust. Shall I go on?
Other than bragging rights, I have a tough time thinking the R is worth more than the S, granted if you option up the S you close the cost gap. My issue is how compliant the ride is vis a vis the “daily driving.”

Glad I watched this was deciding on which one to get and this made me make up my mind. Glad to know their the same size cause I’m 6’4 so SQ8 it is cheaper and sounds better. I don’t need almost 600hp 500hp is good enough lol.

Great video! Obviously, I would take the RSQ8 but with the sticker price of $121k, I would much rather take the SQ8 and test my luck with tuning.

I tuned my SQ8 to just about 700 HP....the beast became even more of a beast.

Basically Audi SQ8/RSQ8 is real great cars and very well-made SUV with great handing etc.. Adding to that they use same platform with Cayenne & URUS
Also, they share a lot of things together as all of them are owned by Volkswagen Group
Especially SQ8/RSQ8's engine are same engine on URUS & Cayenne - 4.0L V8
And then tuned differently by Audi RS, Lamborghini and Porsche respectively
But in my opinion, overall, Audi RSQ8 is the best choice with highly reasonable price tag and it is the fastest super-SUV
Also it has the fastest SUV record on Nurburgring track!

Nice video. Love the RSQ8, SQ8 sounds better though. Just bought 2022 Q3 S Line Premium Plus & enjoy the features and handling. RSQ8 is a little out of my budget.

Great comparison - One thing you forgot to mention was that on the RSQ8, it has some cool air vents on the rear side bumper. only the RSq8 has this.

As I’m actively thinking about changing my current Q8 Tdi 50. The SQ8 is probably my choice because it’s cheaper and with a re-map it will achieve 590 b.h.p. So no difference in the performance. The sound is great on both cars. Either one is good.

I have seen one or two people do that, but I could have sworn that Audi had an option for it but I can't find it on the order guide. I would imagine that Audi will come out with some sort of real exhaust for it at some point.
I typically recommend the SQ8 M-F and the RSQ8 on the weekends, IMO😜

Thank you Emily!! This is the most informative video I've found on the SQ8/RSQ8 comparison hands down. I am looking at ordering a 2023 SQ8 but I have a couple of questions comparing the 2.
1. Aside from tuning via programming are the engines and transmissions the same?
2. You showed a few extra options in the menu for the RS- can the SQ8's software be programmed to provide the same options/menus? I'm guessing yes because nowadays so much is software defined but I don't know.
3. If the above mentioned software patch were applied to the SQ8 would that allow for the air suspension to match the slightly lower ride heigh of the RSQ8t that you highlighted in the video?
4. Thank you again for being such a knowledgeable resource on audi! This will be my first car from the brand:)

1: Aside from the factory tunes, you are correct the drivetrain is the same
2: This question is a bit hard to answer, you used to be able to "Unlock" so many features. But now Audi has made it incredibly hard to do so. Oftentimes the missing features require additional software, and if you add any software you will void your warranty. But, and I am not 100% sure of this, but if you have access to the factory ODIS tool found at Audi Dealerships and select aftermarket places in the country, you may be able to add these features.
3: The suspension is quite complicated, you can lower the SQ8 using many different aftermarket options but they can have problems or tire wear problems. I am not convinced that just changing to the RSQ8 software it will have the same effect.

The RSQ8 also has a different front bumper . Under the headlights the SQ8 bumper stops with the color portion but on the RSQ8 the color portion of the bumper contours down and around the cooling vents and down above the lip on either side . Also some of the RSQ8s have flat bottom steering wheels if optioned . Small but subtle differences no body notices anyways lol .

Wow, the RSQ8 comes with differently stiched seats, option to switch between some setting profiles, and most importantly, AN RS BADGE ON THE VEHICLE ICON! WOW that's so worth it over the SQ8! It even has 91 more horsepowers that's a nice extra to have I guess.
And it comes with so many features STANDARD!! 🤯

The RS has way more options dude. Larger wheels, better styling, carbon fiber exterior trim, 100 more HP, better brakes, and waaaaay better exhaust. Shall I go on?

Other than bragging rights, I have a tough time thinking the R is worth more than the S, granted if you option up the S you close the cost gap. My issue is how compliant the ride is vis a vis the “daily driving.”
The biggest difference will be the looks. Some customers have to have the RS looks, some don't

Quad exhaust it’s a characteristic of S cars only. All RS cars have the big ovals.
