- When I saw this module for the first time a few months ago, I knew I wanted one yesterday. Then GameChanger audio reached out to me if I would be interested in doing a 'second opinion'. A different angle, away from the trash and farts, and more into the cinematic realm. Sure! It's absolutely stunning for many, many genres, also including ambient.
Compared to the old Plasma Drive, the Voice is a joy to work with. The Drive is an all or nothing distortion with no mercy. The Voice is a sound design dream with 49 'engines' which can deliver tons of sounds. It can scream and buzz like a fan in a bathtub, but when you turn default trigger mode OFF the oscillator will be free and ready for your own sculpting. It's no secret I prefer using a LPG instead of the internal VCA (or any) to take off the rough edges and add a bit of organic life to it. I don't think I can warmly recommend a module I got free of charge, but I am doing it anyway.

I own and concur. It is an awesome, awesome module. It can be as subtle or insane as you let it. There is nothing quite like playing tangible, observable electromagnetism. It's much like the experience of running voices through tube distortion amps in modular - physical, raw, rumbly, crunchy.
I couln't agree more!
Nice, thanks!
for me this module was love at first sight and def did not disappoint when I got mine.
wow...what a crazy module! It really contains a small universe!
Sounds great. I remember reading that there was going to be a final black and gold run of LxDs, though I haven’t seen anything about this lately. Would certainly be welcome.
That would be cool, but they will probably not go to the EU due to the vactrol ban. LXD used to be the cheapest LPG for about $99. It doesn't work without CV though. No room for knobs like on the Optomix.
@@CinematicLaboratory I forgot about the vactrol ban-that's unfortunate. I picked one up used recently. I've been doing some filter sweeps on the top channel using pressure points cv. Fun.
I already have the plasma drive and I'm pretty comfortable with getting the tones I want but this is a great module, and in the same 16HP!
Very interesting sounds, as usual! 🔌
You did again. I bought the Algo after your demo and now GASn for this. Bet Joey Blush has responsed all over this.
I now have similar issues with Serge now. But I am confident you'll be able to resist. These modules may be too deep for most eurorack users. But some will want to know how deep that rabbit hole goes. Almost a full 6U case now...
Joey went ape with this module a few months ago. It was love at first sight. Check it out.
Did you ever get your Disting display situation worked out?
My main takeaway from this vid was to connect the ribbon cable to the case FIRST 🤯
It’s one of a few modules that I won’t sell. Couple it with a few other modules and it’s a beast.
They won't be able to make this module fast enough for the first couple of years. It's destined for a lot of racks I reckon. Great demo, as always.
It would be a great compliment for the module if they sell out. I think it deserves it too.
I want this one bad
That's a good thing, Gerald :)
a good place tp learn the difference between fart and an "electrical discharge" I guess a fart is a different kind of discharge! Cheers
I've been trying to avoid this :).
@@CinematicLaboratory thanks for the upload!
Wow; not subtle. Love it though. I don't put enough "gnarly" I to my pieces. Maybe I should get one...
Good one, man .. I think if it were in my rack, .. I would just be cracking the valves slightly, .. to the access of these tools. I wonder about that xenon tube, though .. is this something needs to be replaced, now again? And if so, .. can one?
The tube will last for roughly 10.000 hours, which will officially make you an expert in eurorack :). Assuming the company still exists after it breaks, it needs to be repaired, presumably by the manufacturer. If you operate it every day for eight hours, it would last 3,5 years or so. I would not recommend putting it in an always-on case. I did not give this much thought, because most of my modules are in 7U cases and only powered on when used. In my case, the PV will probably last forever. It's an important thing to consider, but it's unwise to be afraid of things that may never happen.
@@CinematicLaboratory I had the exact same concerns before purchasing it and was told 10 to 70.000 hours at 100% drive. So, with normal usage it should last many years. I'm also fairly certain that the tubes have been undervolted to prolong lifespan.
@@ntro9347 Thanks for sharing! 10.000 hours of patching is already a lifetime...
@@CinematicLaboratory Well yes, .. that's many, many hours .. I did some digging into Gamechanger .. and one of their other products (xenon tubed, as well) they spoke of that being capable of a 70,000 hour life cycle. Either one .. 10,000 or 70,000 .. is alot of usage. And the operating voltages, of the xenon tubes .. 3,000 volts .. whoa ..
@@user-ng9uc3vu3k Yeah, volts don't kill you, it's the current :).
……….and Strega !
Yeah, that would be a fun combo too!
