Great video! I'm doing my research in possibly relocating from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the Austin/Surburban area. I'm a single (widower) guy. My mom & dad have passed away now, my siblings live in other states, I'm just ready for change, and that's why I'm in research mode. I have family in the Dallas and Houston areas, but i dont want to go to those cities. Anyways, sorry for being so long winded in my comment. 😊
Thanks for watching and its great to hear you'll be moving to the area! Feel free to give me a call or text if you want to talk about the city and specific neighborhoods, and see some available homes!
I like this video. Good answers. Had a chance to move to Austin (i alone make over 275k a year) but decided not for me. Moved to SD area instead. More bang for my buck. Still, not a bad spot if you're only going to be there for a few years and don't mind potentially losing house value/lower wage
Good quality video production. Here’s my input on Austin after moving here from the Bay Area 5 yrs ago: Austin lacks real, expansive, natural open spaces. Its mostly artificial here. The hiking trails are laughable. Rocks and bushes and a hand full of small hills. Dont move here if you like real open spaces for hiking. Seriously. Coming from bay area I grew up with open spaces everywhere. Breathtaking beauty. Yeah, its cheaper but its boring AF. The food is also sub par. The schools are good. Weather is unbearable at times. Try it for yourself and see how you feel after a few years.
Yeah I think everyone for sure should come visit for awhile and make decision from there and put in some research. I loved SD when I was there this summer, but for the work I do and the taxes I couldn't really do it, BUT I can spend every summer there for sure!
Move back to the Bay with the highest homeless population, most feces on the public sidewalks, 3x as much cost of living and also insufferable liberals.
@timsebring4776 stop blaming the west coast for your boring weird little town. Yall wanted to keep it weird right, now it's a strange place to live with no real culture.
The Taxs so high same with the Water and Power Bills . I lived there for 29 yrs b4 . Traffic is so bad . Its called MOPac not 130 . Metro rides was not there when i was there . Taxs for Property is 7 % and up . 30 days of 100% in the summer . Some Snow but not often . By the way I lived in Roundrock for the whole 29yrs . They build a new school every year . Is one of the reason the taxs are so high . Live Music is really good . Love the Food .
130 is a newish north/south toll road well east of downtown, and has little if any affect on local traffic. MOPAC (Loop 1, but nobody calls it that. built on a Missouri Pacific right of way.) also runs north/south, is older, and runs just west of downtown. Guess you weren't here when that happened. BTW, Round Rock politics are not Austin politics.
This one is both a pro and con: the politics of Austin. If you are a Democrat, you will love the politics of Austin but you will despise the politics of Texas. If you are a Republican, you will loathe the politics of Austin, but you will love the politics of Texas. Austin, Texas is the San Francisco or Seattle or Los Angeles or Chicago of Texas. In other words, it is arguably the most liberal city of Texas. If you are a Republican living in Austin, I would recommend moving to another part of Texas if you can or want to. If you are a Democrat who is sick of the politics of Texas and cannot wait to move out, then move to a blue state or a purple state if you can afford it.
Just don’t move there if you are afraid of people, Republicans. Don’t try to reap the benefits of progressive cities if you vote against everything. Just stay out.
Im a california resident tired of thr politics here and could (probably) easily get a job in austin (work transfer). Can you please provide some examples of how its the most liberal/democratic city in the state? 🙏

We have been seeing prices steadily decrease in the past few months which is great for buyers. But if interest rates continue to drop, that may change and prices may shoot back up due to an increase in buyers shopping. Right now there are deals to be found!

Lived in Austin 1993-2021; city has become way over-crowded - older, favorite business locales have mostly folded and have given way to national chains; Austin has lost a lot of the luster. I lived and owned houses in central (Crestview, Allandale, Northwest Hills) but property taxes were soaring. Most people that can now afford to live in Austin proper are attorneys and tech/software engineers - yay! Normal people are stuck in Millwood cookie cutter homes, no tress, etc in Hutto, Pflugerville, Leander, Cedar Park, Elgin, which are not Austin.
I do agree that the city has changed so much over the last 10 years, however, I feel Austin still is that energetic, almost magical city full of potential for tons of people! To me, its up to people here to keep Austin's culture alive!
You don’t do the heat justice. People who are not from the state don’t understand what heat means until they get here. This is especially true of Californians. They think that because they’ve got all that desert over there and that they have places like death valley that they understand our heat. They don’t. They have no idea. They no dry heat. We have humid heat. Completely different animal. And it goes on and on and on from the end of May till the middle of September. And you forgot to tell them about that fault that runs through Austin. Very concerning to Californians. Especially when you tell them that Texas has absolutely no regulations to make buildings earthquake proof if that thing should become active. And it can come active. If there’s any fracking in the area, that’ll do it. It happened in Dallas.

My property tax in north Austin fell by almost half from 2021 to 2023. Not saying that's necessarily a good thing, services continue to decline.

How much are the tolls?

Easy to avoid
Not sure where the hate is on the food in the comments. Foods great here
Austin is expensive. Suburbs are ok but you are waaay out before they get affordable
As someone who lives in the city, I hate i-35 so much. Everything around it is a wasteland.
The property tax is double California's
Austin use to be such a beautiful town. USE TO!
Austin, California smh
And the east side is not the east side of ol!!!

Austin was ruined by the California people back in the mid-90's.
There was never anything to ruin. It was a dumpy college town in the 90’s and by the late 2000’s it still a dumpy college town
