The Hummer EV is a Ready-To-Run (RTR) RC car. All you need to provide are 7x 'AA' type batteries. This is a superb scale-realistic model with fully detailed exterior and interior. It is an officially licensed model by General Motors, so it carries all the correct OEM logos and badges. The front doors can be opened and the roof strut can be removed and replaced with a panel that enables the use of a smart phone for recording video footage whilst driving. This model is manufactured from injection-moulded plastic parts ensuring a high quality of fit and finish.
This model features a number of interesting details such as 4-wheel drive and multi-mode 4-wheel steering. The four steering modes are selected using a button on the bespoke 2.4GHz RC handset. Modes include crab steer (front and rear wheels turn in same direction), reduced turning circle (front and rear wheels turn in opposite direction), front steer only and rear steer only. An additional button allows the selection of two different drive speeds. The throttle and steering controls are non-proportional.

A version that is powered by a 4.8V rechargeable battery pack and supplied with a USB charger is also available (Raster part number 93060). A smaller 1:26 scale version is also offered (Rastar part number 93100) but note that this doesn't have all the detailing and technical features of the larger scale model. About Hummer:
The Hummer brand was introduced in 1992 when AM General began selling a civilian version of their military HMMWV. In 1998, General Motors (GM) purchased the Hummer brand name from AM General and marketed 3 models; the original H1 based on the military platform and the smaller H2 and H3 models based on civilian GMC platforms. In 2009, GM went bankrupt and an attempt was made to sell the brand. Chinese company Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company Ltd was announced as the buyer for a price of 150 million USD but the deal fell through. The Hummer brand was subsequently discontinued in 2010. However, in 2020, the Hummer name again returned as a sub-brand of GMC, offering an electric pick-up (SUT) and an SUV variant. Makes a change to all those Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren cars that Rastar seems to love producing. I think this is one of the best releases in recent times.
I also like this Hummer and I think it is the best release for a while with some interesting features. However, it is obvious from my videos that most people prefer supercars. My Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren reviews get significantly more views, likes and comments than most of the off-road/SUV style vehicles. I suspect that sales of these types of vehicles are also substantially higher and that is why Rastar concentrates on them the most. It is always good to see something a little bit different though.
Awesome video as always. Really neat to see the orange paint job. Thank you for explaining the drive modes. I could not notice anything changing with mine when I pressed that button. I'll probably try speed testing it again to see if there is a difference.
Since this handset was designed specifically for this vehicle, it is a pity that Rastar didn't include just one more LED to indicate what speed mode is selected. I assume they provided a slow mode for the 4-wheel steering modes and a fast mode for when you have 2-wheel steering but the car handled perfectly okay for me in fast mode and with the opposite steering (tight turning circle) mode selected without over-turning.
I did do a bit of research to see if there is anything available with a hobby grade chassis that might suit this body but nothing obvious springs to mind yet. Most of the crawler type chassis have rigid axles and multi-links and most of the truck chassis have ridiculous tyres and wide track width. The only things that look scale realistic are closer to 1:10/1:12 scale so the wheelbase is way too big. What I want is a chassis similar to the Tamiya XR311.
@@BlackSeaRC Ooh, that Tamiya chassis looks really nice. I'm not to familiar with hobby grade stuff. My collection is mostly Rastar. I like the level of detail most of the models have.
The Hummer handles better than pretty much every Rastar car I have. We shall see if that is the case once it is modified.
@@AndWeRollin What are your plans for the control then if you have 2 drive motors? A single ESC with Y-cable? What about the multi-mode 4-wheel steering? You will need a way to select the 4 different modes. By the way, my HG-P417 has a similar 4WS set-up. You could also look at the FMS Hummer H1 which has the same multi-mode steering (and 2 speed settings).
@@BlackSeaRC I have no idea at the moment. I still have not opened it up. I will probably do that today for tomorrow's video. My i8 has 3 ESCs if I remember correctly (one for each door and one for the drive motor). The application is a little different, but I have a lot of components inside the i8. I should be able to come up with something.
The drive modes are interesting. I might consider abandoning some of them. I really only need two of the modes. Alternatively, I could potentially use an Arduino and write the code for different modes. I'm hopeful that I can program the transmitter with various channel mixes to address the modes. This is why I was so excited about the Hummer; it offers me an opportunity to explore something new. I will definitely check out the models you mentioned to see if I can find inspiration.
@@AndWeRollin I suppose it depends upon what you want to achieve from the upgrade. More speed would be nice but if you are going at high speed, the front steer only would work best for stability. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.

This feature is only on the larger scale model as are some of the other features. I definitely think it is better to buy this one over the 1:26 scale version, especially as the cost difference is not so much. It would be great as a camera car don't you think? On smooth surfaces it is okay but when the going gets rough, this car isn't brilliant. I just wish the suspension and ground clearance were better but I can't really complain as we got 4WD and multi-mode 4WS as well. The new handset is an improvement too.
Other than the cheap lights, the details are great. Goddamn it's beautiful.
At first, I wasn't a fan of the Hummer EV body style when I saw it in pictures, but when you see the model in reality it is really nice. The bright orange finish works nicely with the black. I agree, the lights are rather disappointing in day time and are hardly visible at all.

Somehow, I was in no doubt that you would like this model. I hadn't read much about it as it is so new but as soon as I unpacked it, I knew it was nice. For me it is the best detailed model by Rastar so far. With opening doors, open roof (just like the real car) and pick-up bed, you get so much more detail than a typical model.
NOTE: In the video, I state that this Hummer EV uses a twin-motor drive configuration to achieve the 4WD. However, whilst it uses twin motors for the front and rear steering, there is actually a single drive motor located towards the rear plus a longitudinal drive shaft and sets of gears to transfer drive to the front wheels. This also explains the rather poor top speed which is less than Rastar's other 2WD vehicles and the limited torque available when driving on gradients or rough terrain.

The car looks fantastic and it has some nice features but the suspension is awful. Maybe it is okay on the road cars that drive on flat surfaces but for an off-road style vehicle it could be much better.
You are right, these cars do have awful suspension. But in reality, although it is an off-road vehicle style and I drove it off-road in the test, Rastar did not design it for this application. These products are designed to accurately represent the real vehicle but are intended to be used indoors or on a relatively smooth and flat surface outside. If you want a more capable performer in rough terrain, the choices are quite limited in this price range. However, if your budget allows you to spend a little bit more, you could consider one of the semi-hobby grade brands such as WPL, MN, SG, HG, Austar, FTX, etc.

That would be an interesting custom build. This lovely body really deserves a capable chassis, but I suspect it would be difficult to find something that is suitable dimensionally. 1:16 scale is not common for hobby grade. There are some WPL chassis but this is quite a big vehicle. FMS make a super-detailed Hummer H1 with ideal chassis characteristics (4WD/4WS) but that is 1:12 scale so the wheelbase is too long. The wheelbase needs to be around 220mm.
maybe if you look for 1/18 scale with the IRS suspension they are all bigger than 1/18@@BlackSeaRC
@@carloshnunez Yes, this type of vehicle definitely needs front and rear double wishbone suspension so a typical crawler chassis with rigid axles and coil springs wouldn't suit it. Maybe a rally style chassis would be most suitable because the shock towers would need to be quite small.
Will it ever come to the USA?
Yes, I'm sure it will come, but since it has only recently been released, it will take a couple of months to reach USA by sea container, pass through customs and make its way to the stores. Most people who have this model so far have received them by airmail directly from China. I reckon it will be very popular in USA given the fact that the Hummer EV is predominantly known there.

Thank you my friend! The Hummer EV is one of my favourite Rastar RC cars and is great to drive in the 4-wheel steering mode. It may not be a supercar but the level of detailing on this model is one of the best that Rastar currently produces.
By the way, there are some exciting new Rastar RC cars that have been announced and I will be adding them to my collection as soon as they are available. Watch out for the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro and the Ferrari 499P LMH coming to this channel. I even didn't expect that at all. They advertised it as 4-wheel steering and I thought they would just put an extra steering motor in. But actually, they put an extra drive motor in as well and didn't even mention it! The car does still have open differentials though so it is quite easy to spin one wheel on each axle and get stuck off-road. On a hard surface it drives and steers great though.

First of all , I agree I really underestimated it , cuz at first I was like , no way I will buy one, but then your review made me like okay I need to buy one, 32 USD is cheap bit for the 1 26 scale I found it on ebay for almost 100 Canadian dollars lol. But you know what , I will try to look for it on my local store , I might buy one and review it as well. And yeah the suspension is bad , but everything else is just gorgeous
@@hwroadbeasts I highly recommend the 1:16 version over the 1:26 scale version. The reasons are that the smaller version has a fixed roof (so no on board video capability), no opening doors, no interior detail, no space for a driver figure, no 4WD or 4WS. In fact, all the reasons why the 1:16 version is so good. So okay, if you like the Hummer EV body style it is okay to buy it but you don't get any of the other advantages. The prices do seem quite a bit higher in USA and Canada, so I feel lucky in that respect.

Remember that I bought this brand new model for the equivalent of 32 USD. Now I'm sure the price is much lower here than in other countries but still, that is a very reasonable price considering the additional functionality. The body and interior is very high quality and wouldn't look out of place on a 500 USD RC car. It is that good!

I purchased this RC car in Detskiy Mir so it is totally fair to review it there. There are many customers who might want to see it in more detail, watch it driving and check the good/bad points before deciding to purchase.
The review is in English language in the video because I have viewers worldwide. Did you not like the video? I think it gives a comprehensive overview of all aspects and as far as I can see, there are no other reviews of this new model so far.
The specification of this particular product does not change between countries. It is the same product everywhere. There are some special edition models produced for the Russian market (e.g. police/ambulance/VIP taxi variants of standard vehicles), but they use Russian language on the packaging.
