pat played the rythym guitar so kurt didn’t have to focus on his playing as much, that way he could focus on his singing more and with pat singing backup it made the band sound much better

And to be honest, he sounds a lot better than Dave did at this point.
Yea Pat was a great addition to the group on so many levels talent wise and personality overall. Dave was great too since he helped a lot before Pat with backup vocals but yea Pat was awesome!
Impossible to sing those high harmonies while bashing the drums !

I was 14 it was the greatest night of my life until then. Omni Atlanta great sound full house... loud...not ear piercing like pumpkins and black crows. Breaders opened. We wore docs jeans and flannels and the pit was swirling. A few months later we saw the dead for the last show in ATL.

Dancing bear was available and the dead show was spectacular. Back then when the dead came to ATL thousands of people camped at Stone Mountain. That was the most amazing time in space. Unbelievable really.

Are they tuned down a full step here, or is it just a half step? Either way, the song sounds better in this tuning!

SooperKewl most of their stuff is in standard, they just began to tune down to e flat for live performances around late 92 because kurts voice was being ruined by his lack of proper technique. the copius amount of drugs wouldnt have helped either.

This song definitely works better played as a 4-piece band. The solo part especially sounds better with a rhythm in the background. However, it would have sounded even better if Kurt would have played the same notes to the solo as he did on the album in this performance, with Pat providing a solid rhythm.
Kurt has gone on record saying he just interprets the solos he recorded as he can't really remember how to play them exactly
@@Valeo1993Right, I believe I heard the same interview. I suppose he didn't feel like taking the time to figure out what he had actually recorded a few years prior.
I just view Kurt as a little bit contradictory at times. He sometimes enjoyed and insisted on playing leads even when Nirvana had a 4th member, but didn't bother to learn what he'd recorded and either played from memory or made something up on the spot. He lacked chops and has expressed disinterest and hatred for musical theory as well as investing effort to make himself a better guitarist. This doesn't make much sense to me. Typically, if someone doesn't have the chops, they would keep things simple and work within their limitations, like Johnny Ramone, for example. I'm not trying to judge KC, but just stating my opinion. I do enjoy some of his leads like the ones of School, In Bloom, Aero Zeppelin, Serve the Servants and Heart Shaped Box. I just think he was way better as a rhythm guitarist.

I'm watching this for the same reasons that you probably are. I wanted to see how he performed towards the end of his life. I'm also proud to say that I remain a true fan to this day. I can listen to every single song from their catalog and still get a rush!

Kurt sure played a lot of solos for someone who claimed to not care about guitar technique and didn't even bother learning to play the solos he actually recorded on the albums. I think part of him did enjoy playing leads, even though he scoffed at technical precision. I just wish he would have put a little bit more effort in both the live playing and recording of his leads. It would have paid off a lot. This is one of the things that's always been a bit of a pain point for me with Nirvana.

I wonder who the other guitar player is in this one and why he is playing with them? Nirvana was a 3 piece band and out of all the video's of them I have ever seen there were only the 3 guy's on stage that I know of.

Pat Smear joined the band in 1993 for the In Utero American and European tours, as well as the MTV unplugged. In 1989 there was also a second guitar player, called Jason Everman, for a short time.
Btw Pat Smear was a member of Foo Fighters in their earlier times.

R.Aguiar naw, don't worry, i see where you're coming from. but, if you look at Drain You Live on Nulle Part Ailleurs, at the end (around the scream), Kurt's guitar cuts out completely. If Pat weren't there to play the riff for Kurt, things wouldn't have gone as great as they did.

My close friend of mine is not much of a nirvana fan I told him to watch the movie and he said that he was murdered. Also my wife's sister and husband watched soaked in bleach they are not in to nirvana said the same thing that they think he was murdered!!!!
