  • I head out on a sunny June afternoon, talking about possibly using my mountain bike for future Bikepacking trips. I have added a few add ons to make it more suitable especially for canal riding were the terrain can be a bit rough at times.

Nice one Dave, that farmer spraying 💩 over the bike camper made me laugh though! 😂

Great video Dave - nice to see some sunshine. I think if you have low enough gears that bike will be an excellent bikepacking rig. As for that farmer - should be charged with assault. Vile behaviour.

Thanks Andrew , yeah the gearing is way better than my current bike. Farmer was bang out of order , think he was looking for attention otherwise why video it ? Atb Dave

Hi Dave, bike looks spot on for bikepacking, especially the canals😎, your BB on that bike is a square taper cartridge BB, so your frame shell is BSA treaded, the best 👌🏻, doubt you’ll get a creak out of any of the bottom brackets you’ll choose for that, unlike the hateful BB30…farmer was obviously loving making his video, fair enough, wild camper was daft, 1st rule, set up late, leave early, if you’re still there with your tent up in broad daylight you don’t know what you’re doing, you should be gone by dawn at the latest, both were wrong, but it’s very easily avoided if you don’t take the piss, I wild camp before I get hate, you just can’t do it, I’ve never had any trouble, but I follow the unwritten rules, ⛺️🚲🙂👍🏻

Cheers Ian , I should have had it ready for the Leeds trip really 😂 the BB seems so much better than my caadx one !!
Yeah farmer was looking for likes and views on Facebook, but I think it went the other way as he was bang out of order !!
But yeah the arrive late and gone early rule or simply out of sight and folk are none the wiser .😎⛺️🚲👍 atb Dave

Ought be a solid bike set up for your stated intentions Dave. I go bikepacking riding a Surly fitted with Jones H-bars, built like a tank, very comfortable posture, versatile and capable to ride into remote hilly country. That farmer's attitude was very harsh, of course in England only 7% of land is legally publicly accessible and wildcamping attitude by a few (though not all) farmers, landowners treat this with contempt. The flat / platform pedals look good, have in the last two years, converted each of my bikes to flat pedal use, which I much prefer.

Thanks , I have looked at the surly and others as a possible for new bike !
Yeah farmer was obviously on a mission hence videoing it .
The only clip pedals I have are on my road/summer bike now .
      Atb Dave 🚲👍

that set up well suited to more technical terrain dave with the platform pedals & mtb tyres 👍 press fit bottom brackets nowt but bother. can't beat the Shimano hollowtech type with outboard cups. some nasty farmers out there 😮 had a lovely eide yesterday in the sun ☀️ could do with some rain 🤣 keep a had.

      @davesolobiker5601  17 днів тому

Yeah I should have really used it on the Leeds Liverpool trip 😂 those press fit types are just trouble !!!
Re farmers it’s always best to be out of sight and reach .
Loving the sun but yeah rain for the gardens lol 😂

The Farmer was a bellend. He’s no right to spray people with shit. All he had to say was leave and tell him not to camp there again. It’s a straight forward assault. But that’s up to the cyclist if he makes it official.

If I were that cyclist who the farmer sprayed with shit I would sue him. His response was totally unacceptable, not proportionate in any way. The farmer should have just approached him and asked him to leave. End of.
Looks like you will be fine on this mtb for bike packing. What's not to like?

Hoping to get out BikePacking using the mtb in the near future 👍 atb Dave

i am into bike packing myself . that farmer may have had previous nasty experiences with bikers and hikers that have stuck their noses into his privicy and lifestyle . it is important to respect rural lifestyles and activities when in the countryside .one nosy do goder can easily ruin it for everybody.

Yeah without full context to the video it’s hard to understand it really, but still over the top reaction in my opinion.
