Answer: her parents gave her a popular name for Icelandic girls.
Thanks it started giving a lot of extra info I and most of us fans already know 😅
"Odd name" dude it's her first name.
another possible answer could be that there was a low representation of icelandic people/"björks" in music and just her first name would make enough of an impression on the rest of the world to be memorable. maybe also about a sense of familiarity/intimacy(first name vs. first name last name) or belief that her music and personality would stand out without her adopting a stage name. i wish whoever made the video asked why she might use her first name instead of just padding out the video
I lived in Iceland for a couple of years and her name is as common as 'Susan' lol.
@@nautilus541In Iceland, you're just called by first name. Everyone knows who you're talking about. If not, then you could mention the patronym (sometimes matronym).
She also made around 2 million TVs explode.
And even more phones & tablets.
Lol
How ?? (Sorry don’t know anything about her )

Love that clip!! ❤
and none of her songs from her that I listen to to this day..i tried but it hurts my ears
@@masbroinside444It's hard to get used to. I used to not be able to listen to radiohead because Thom's voice was sometimes grating. All I could really do was force myself to listen and eventually I ended up liking it. This in turn helped me get used to Bjork's voice fairly quickly.

…. She’s from Iceland…. It’s not weird it’s an Icelandic name 😂
That’s what I was thinking 😭 like isn’t that her birth name wtf
@@Bear27012 yes her full name is Björk Guðmundsdóttir meaning that she is Björk daughter of Guðmundur (dóttir = daugther). We don't use surnames/family names.
@@MrPickyquestion? why don’t you guys use sur names ?
@@Lilswagjr surnames have never existed in Icelandic. Surnames didn't exist in Europe until the 11th century. It was never made mandatory in Iceland and most likely due to isolation it never became "a trend" even though the Danes that used to rule us would have preferred it. There where some that wanted it and there are still about 2% (or less) of the population that carry a "family name". Guess we are just too proud of our heritage that we prefer not to use surnames.
It a swedish Sirname
i'm sorry did you just say she released three albums and then she released more albums
EPs, and LPs are characterized differently, hence him saying albums THEN LPs.

If you are familiar with Bjork's discography you would know she has never released an LP
@B M you are talking nonsense. An LP is an album. An EP is a mini album.
debut, post and homogenic are LPs
Behind the name but still can't seem to pronounce it lol.. Like Björk once said "Björk like as in jerk" 😂
"your television is just about to explode"
Her name is not odd for a woman from Iceland.
The vast majority of Icelandic surnames are patronymic, giving us her actual name: Björk Guðmundsdóttir, daughter of Guðmundur.
As for the name Björk itself, it’s a fairly common name in the Nordic countries, meaning “birch”.
WAIT, MY TELEVISION WILL EXPLO-
how could that possibly happen😂 in what world would my fucking television- why the fuck is my television on fir-
“My name is bjork and your television is about to … EXPLODE!”😍
Okay but she was also part of the sugarcubes and have released 2 more albums before debut
The Sugarcubes had three albums, Life's Too Good; Here Today, Tomorrow Next Week! and Stick Around For Joy.
@lionharehart yes I know, as well as 2 albums under the band KUKL but what I meant was Gling Glo and the self titled album "Björk" from 1977
My favorite female vocalist. Love this woman so much! ❤
She was in a band called KUKL who released 2 albums in the mid 1980s on Crass Records and also toured with the anarcho-punk band Crass.
I have always loved Bjork going back many years , got all her music but I do love the original songs- she has changed her style of music over the years- ❤❤❤
She always gets 'The Best of Me'. If you catch my drift.
One of my favorite trees 🌳 Birch ...quite numerous in Ontario, my home
Vespertine is the GOAT
Bjork is a legend and way before her time. All others in her genre take a backseat. And yes Bjork is an Icelandic name. Take time to learn about Scandinavian culture.
birch trees are Not Delicate! they are fierce, make it difficult for competitors grow nearby and survive almost anything. That's why they cover vast tracts of the North.
Gorgeously in human she is the most amazing woman to me
It's pronounced Byerk
what is blud waffling abt 😭😭🙏🙏
Common name,

She's awesome! Such a unique and beautiful talent. She embodies everything lady gaga wishes she could be.
If it means birch in Swedish - and maybe other Scandinavian languages, and also in Icelandic? - it's nice because a simple or tea of white birch bark is an analgesic... just random fyi
Well that was a completely bonkers video where this guy got pretty much everything wrong. From the number of albums she's released and their titles, to the reason why as an Icelander she has an Icelandic name.

I love her, she is beautiful
my name is bjork and your television is just about to explode
Although you did correctly say solo albums.. She did release albums with her early band the sugarcubes.. Actually I'm not sure if they did more than 1 album.. But they did at least 1.. And I've got it on 12 inch vinyl
"...garnered..."
Love her ❤
Miss pigi😂😂😂😂
"Odd name." Bro that's just a very ordinary Nordic name.
It's literally just her name, the one her parents gave her. Yes it means birch but that's not why she's named that. That's like saying John Cena is named John because he was "graced by god" to be a wrestler.
She's just going by her actual first name. My moms name is Björk too and she's nothing like a tree, and doesn't make any music.
She has stated her name rhymes with WORK not PORK
Europeans: How did Miley Cyrus get her ODD name?!??!!
FOS-Sora
En Islandia a penas hay árboles …..
I recall hearing her first time with the Sugarcubes in '86, which was her fifth recording. a solo album, two albums with a post-punk band, then another single album with members later in Sugarcubes. A polished pro with her own style already, another two albums before the solo item you mention... and her name was a regular Icelandic name. better scripting, please...
"I would like to cut a Björk" 😅🌳
"i would like to cut Björk" 😮
BJORK❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏
I wonder what her parents wooda named her if she was born in Antarctica
The fact you completly ignored Vespertine (which is probably her most influential album ever) shows how little research went into this.
Bjork is pronounced the same as Birch. It's not Byork. It's Byerk
Odd? This is her given name. Christ! Americans!! It's a popular name.
I love her
Of course that statement about her making up her name was probably an early '90s MTV interview, obviously making her nervous was, when they asked her what is the worst name you've ever been called? She said "Bjerk". And MTV asked her, where did you get your name. And she said "I made it up". MTV. Right? All about MTV.
what about "Guðmundsdóttir" ?
OG Lady Gaga
Björk rhymes with "work", not "fork".
She is americas sweetheart! Even though she is not American
it’s pronounced ‘Byerk’ not ‘Byork’
She said in an interview, she said, her name rhymes with jerk. I don’t know if she was joking around? Love her no matter what her name is.
She's an absolutely amazing singer and musician.
Its simply her name
So an "ODD name" just means "not an American name" ? Yeah, you get a lot of those ... outside of America.
You know she was almost killed by a stalker that sent a bomb to her house later the dude killed himself
Do you not know that LPs are albums? Or did ChatGPT write this script and you didn’t bother to edit to make sure it made sense?
and none of her songs from her that I listen to to this day..i tried but it hurts my ears
Get better ears. If you don't like songs like Pagan Poetry then you have awful taste.

Björk is not an odd name. it's just an Icelandic name
Came here to say this, the video title gave weird vibes
Rather than just Swedish, Bjork is an old Nordic name, so you'll find it in Norway and the Faroe Islands as well. It's fairly common in Iceland.
💯
my triggers are f****ng everywhere i swear to god
@@volkova6209 you can add browser extensions that censor certain trigger words you enter if that helps (outside of blocking them on any apps)
Yeah, didn't understand the Swedish connection. Björk comes from Old Norse, the original langue of the Nordic countries (except Finland of course ;) ).
It is common in Iceland, both as first name as well as middle name. We don't use surnames so there is no "Björk family" 😅
@@MrPickyexcept it's only spelled björk with "ö" in Sweden

Well, to americans every non American name is apparently odd 🤷🏻♀️
So is she❤️
i’m sorry but calling bjork “quirky” feels weirdly cheap, she’s so much more than powerful than the word quirky implies
Frfr how are men still referring to this internationally acclaimed multi-talented artist and adult woman like she’s a cutesy little girl
@@linotte_
Amen! This amazing person is almost 60 now.
A tad overdone by the late-1990s. At the latest.
she still owes me a tv
Dude, Bjork ( _as Bjork!_ ) released her first album when she was _eleven,_ in _1977._
But that was _Bjork!_ not Björk.
She released it as Björk Guðmundsdóttir and the title of the album was Björk
Why is her name weird? Because it’s difficult to pronounce in English? Bjørk is the name of a common tree in Scandinavia ( both Norway, Sweden and Denmark use the word bjørk) - and we use it to decorate everywhere on our national day. Just because Americans doesn’t get it it’s not weird
Pronouncing her name wrong...
my name is bjork and your television is about to... EXPLODE!
Björk is pronounced "Byerrk" not "Byork"
One of the most iconic and clever singers of all the time.
In Iceland they have laws to preserve their language. So children are required to be named from the official list of boys or girls names. So they can't have a son and name him Lance, he has to be Bjorn. Every year half the children are named whatever that year's popular name is. Half the girls will be Bjork, and half the boys will be Sven. Next year those names are likely to be less popular.
That doesn't explain why my television explote. 😠
It is very rude to call someone from another country's name "ODD”. English isn't the only language.
Her voice is more than 3 octaves…
She had like a 4 octave range . But right now she has maybe 3 .
Her name isnt odd, its beautiful
I like her name.i wonder what her middle name is
Odd name? That’s like saying any foreign name is odd, that’s a shit take
The way you just,,,formatted it to not even mention Vespertine is killing me inside
Why didn't you talk about how she made a lot of tv's explode???
Her parents gave Björk her name...
It's only quirky or weird for you.
she's my favorite female singer
it's pronounced "byerk"
As a Icelandic person this is ableluitly false
@mr.monkey9935 take it up with Björk, she's the one who said it in an interview. "it's Byerk. it rhymes with jerk."
I can't hear Björk without thinking of her stalker . I never knew she covered " i remember you " until i watched her stalkers video
