I cut my weedguard a lil above the hook point straight and I separate them into 2 sections , divide it kind of even and make it into a V , but I agree the wire weedguards to me are sometimes better , especially on my tubes , with the wire it’s less of a bite deterant, this is my opinion though
I shorten and remove some of the bristles on my jigs to thin the weed guard out. It definitely has improved my hookups. I like the single wire idea, I’m going to have to try it out. Thanks for sharing.
Stanley’s made a tube years ago that was called a Gitzit , the head weight had the double looped weedguard that bent over to the tip of the hook and the plastic was poured around the head , and I was able to put a twin tail trailer on the back of it
I like wire weed guards unless you are fishing real heavy cover. I do not like bent wires though, as I find they catch line a lot more often, especially when skipping.
Great explanation. I really like I believe you were calling it the weight transfer system with the weight integral like the tush hook design. I cannot wait for these to hit the market so I can add them to my Arsenal
Makes sense Matt. Have some rigs that use the wire with a small loop on the end that slipped behind the barb. Those have always worked well. BTW, I commented on one of Jonny's videos last week. Asked if there was any consideration of making the spiral keeper on the wacky shot a smaller diameter. Especially the 1/28th. It's pretty wide even for a standard Senko. I don't think a smaller diameter would effect either the security of the attachment or the fall/performance of the bait. Keep up the great work!
Very informative video. I know you said core tackle was looking into offering tungsten models of their terminal tackle so I just want to encourage you to proceed with those offerings especially your tush hooks and ozark along with the hover. It will make them hide in the baits so much better with the same weight. I keep watching for you to announce their release date.
I'd definitely use this jig in place of a swimbait or even a chatterbait if the water slicks off and gets to clear and I bet it would be killer with just a swimbait trailer... really looking forward to getting my hands on a few of these because I love throwing a swimjig. Great video as always keepem coming man!!!
I agree. I found this out using the zman crosseyez chatterbait that has two wire weedguard. I started bending the wires on the crosseyez like you do on the core tackle swim jig. It was my go to until I found Picasso. The Picasso heavy cover vibrating jig and hog snatcher jig are now what I buy. I use the wire weedguards for current and light to medium cover. I like to remove the middle wire or two outside wires on the Picasso jigs depending on the application. At this point i have built a Picasso and core tackle box. The ozark rig has replaced Texas rigs for me as a bank angler, the hover rig has replaced the NED rig, and it’s looking like the core tackle swim jig may be replacing my BOSS swim jig. Any chance core tackle will offer naked swim jig heads in like a 3 pack or 4 pack? I like make my own skirts for swim jigs.
I have a rod dedicated for jigs this year. I have couple swim jigs, football heads, & finesse to keep tied in. I had zero confidence with any of them. That's starting to change
I use that hover on flukes and , the smaller Swimbaits the hover with the angled eye I work it like a jerkbait , it will work on a senkos too with not much grass , I really like that Hover
I make my own swim jigs, however I buy boss premade heads. I get absolutely great body roll and even up and down wiggle with the secret trailer I use. I don't have any issues really with hook sets or missing fish I very rarely trim my weed guard and I love fishing through thick grass and wood in your opinion should I thin out my guard? To get even more wiggle and wobble? I've always been the if it ain't broke don't fix it guy 😂 but I truly trust you 100%.
@@MattStefanFishing sure thing man. And I know your a swim jig fanatic like myself. I'm not an Alabama shaker, very rarely a craw trailer guy, if I want subtleness I go with a rage menace where you'd pick a berkley deal..... Try the river 2 sea d walker 120 just a steady retrieve or a quick swim swim glide retrieve. Like pop the reel a couple times followed by a slow reel turn. It's great.
Can you give any insight on fishing the Berkley Krej, i feel Like I should have caught fish, but I have not got one bite. I like the Berkley Finisher, it is fun to fish and it catches fish. I enjoyed talking with you in Tulsa, any advice will be appreciated.
Evergreen makes eg pro design worm that has a rubber tube connected to nose that I insert over my hook like weed guard I used in Florida this winter on my swim jigs and charter bait look it up I am a junkie too
I lost the biggest bass of my year because of slack line and I didn't even have weed guard. Matt are you going to do Strike King 5 bass entry open to the public. I thought about it myself but the place I'd go isn't open to the public but I wonder if the top sizes are from tbe river, lake or ponds
@@MattStefanFishing go check out strikeking big bass challenge. I think it's supper cheap to apply and if your fishing already why not. It's a low money thing but a 1000 bucks is a 1000 bucks and I think it's only 10 to sign up
Strike King big bass challenge. I recon it's a 10 dollar entry that pays 1000 plus prizes for 1st place. Top 10 get paid money and prizes but it's cheap to enter
I have another idea for wacky , make one with a jig head however you like with a jig head , ball or pointed or even a flipping style head , Arkie style , with a screwie underneath the head with a very short shank hook and put the loop style wire weedguard on it poured into the lead , and make it a double wire that clips to the point of the top of the hook , weedless , with a weight weighted jig head and a short shank strong hook , then u could fish wacky Deep , penetrate the senko in the egg sack run it up to the screwie head , screw it on then clip on the weed guard to the tip of the hook , and that jig head style is up to you , ball head , Arkie style , pointed weedless head ,the worm or senk will screw down tight then the short shank is weedless too , plus the bass won’t mind the weight less of a strike deterrent
I think a single wire weed guard is the only way to go! I feel i miss some fish with the thick plastic strands even after thinned. I wish all manufacturers went with a wire guard.
Can make a Texas ewg screw lock and line through in both tush for a line through swimbait like a Magdraft freestyle. Please and and thank you plus a little with a weed that start at the nose and the hook come through the fin on the top but have be a flipping hook and weighted with line through cavity harness like the bass mafia dangerous freestyle or line through and the 6th sense swimbaits or any bait plus weed guard would all the way back to the hook point and barb by the fin. Please and thank you. Would love to see it
Sweet. Thank you for replying can’t wait. Just swimbaits this way I feel work good for Smallies I have kinda of made kinda similar but not exactly what I wanted because that would be a lot of money invested to a project
I only wish I could get you to make a rod or rods plural that I will pay you for completely , that has a shorter handle ; Split or solid of cork , with Macro eyes not micros , that the blank is long and the handle is shorter , split or full cork , with no fore grip , the eyes start double braced for the first 2 or 3 then go to one arm but Macros , if u can not it’s ok , but if u do I want 3-5
Because he thinks it is not weedless so you'll lose many more of them and therefore have to rebuy more ... not sure he actually fishes lures with weed guards ...
Excellent tip about the wire weedguard staying down, compared to the brush guard. Makes sense as it could affect hookup ratio. Thanks Matt.
Glad it was helpful!

Interesting
I agree my brother I like the wire weed guard much better I usually trim the bristles down pretty much and spread them open on every jig that I have
Sounds good

We made it to be slightly smaller than a standard senko. The extra size makes it’s holding power substantially better

Still working on them
I won a bassmaster classic prediction contest with MFO and received some of core tackles swim baits. I cannot wait to try them out!!

Hey Matt I've been waiting for your swimming so I'm happy thank you. I can't find it on your website though. Thanks
Should be a couple weeks still
I can't wait. Thank you.
Picked up a handful of these swim jigs at the classic expo, really nice
Awesome
Glad to see cote tackle finally made it to Dick's picked up bunch of hover rigs today. Thanks for all you content. Great job as always!

The looped wire that bends and clips on to the top of the hook the point of the hook is better than the straight V wire

Work it slower

I’ll check it out
The wire weed guard also disappears under water. Or I should it’s less viable compared to the bristles
Agreed
Hey. Matt. Looked up the core tackle website. Didn’t see. This. Swim jig you’re talking about. When will it be on there. ???
Should be available in about a week
What size wire do you generally use? I make my own jigs and this has me interested…
We have played around with a bunch of different sizes

Hopefully soon

we love it too

I find a Texas rig plastic hard to beat.

When will the Core Tackle swim jig be available?
A week or so
Thanks Matt

You're welcome
It makes a lot of sense 👍
It works great!
I hate those bristle weed guards
They can be a pain

@@MattStefanFishing thanks though 👍🏻
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
Only trying to help , please if u can make em , please do , I don’t want nothing , I want only to fish em
Thanks
Gotta say I don't believe you on this one. It will be awesome for the lure manufacturing company since you will lose 10 times as many.
Why will you lose more?
Because he thinks it is not weedless so you'll lose many more of them and therefore have to rebuy more ... not sure he actually fishes lures with weed guards ...
