Good luck with the formic, I still to scared to use it down here. I did us the apiguard this year , I lost 4 queens out of 65 hives but had a great kill off of mites. Most hives tested O mites, only one tested high because i think i missed one treatment on it.
I might try the Apiguard next year. We can never have too many options for fighting the mites. Penn State just published a paper on the importance of having an array of mite treatments, so that is my goal.
I had a few colonies requeen in the mid-summer, so I didn't treat those relying on that brood break for mite control, but I will probably blast them a few times with OXA later into fall. I treated my remaining colonies with FP and didn't lose any queens. I like the longer expiration date on FP vs. the previous product Mite Away Quick Strips, which always had to be used within a month or 2 of purchase. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the words of encouragement on the FP. I bought some Mite Away once that arrived very near the expiration date and it expired before I had the chance to install it.
It will be interesting to see your results. I've always used the pads perpendicular to the frames and staggered so the pads can off gas into all the seams between the frames.
Playing it safe with Formic ? Lol good luck i know you meant make sure mites low ive just seen formic destroy every hive ive ever seen it used on., even half strength with empty boxes as shims
@PennsylvaniaBeekeeper that's great! I'm fighting trying to be fed up ready for winter and bees trying to rob..may have to boost a couple so don't get picked on.weathers crazy 91 today yrs ago I'd done shut hives and walked away for winter. I figured your bees must be doing good by things you were saying ..I was little surprised to hear drawing comb etc.only because of your location! I worked in Warren several yrs back not sure where you're at I'm in sw Missouri

Nice video ❤
thanks for watching!
11:35 I hope that was hunters and not gang activity!
Brad, nothing to worry about...those gunshots were just the neighbors feuding. I try to not get involved. lol! Thanks for stopping by. -Darren
You have to take the entrance reducers completly out when using formic pro . But you probably know that. Hope it works well for you Darren
yep, I took them out and the bees will be wide open to robbing for a while. Thaks for stopping by. - Darren
Comment without watching much? 😂✌️

yeah, I put them on wrong. Next time I'll know better.
Hey Darren!…how long have those A-tabs been on?
That formic should clean up those colonies nicely!
The tablets have been on for a few weeks. I didn't do any mite tests before inserting the tabs.
itll be interesting to see how they do.
If all goes well it'll be nice to have another treatment option. BTW it's nice to have the 2024 honey champion stop by and comment.

So far the hives look good from the outside, one looks a little weak though. I'll find out for sure next week.
