I didn't know you had a podcast... Yes I'm late. And I'll be brief, apologizing up front if this is not the right place or time or if it just comes off juvenile. I love your work and about 4 years ago I began picturing you in a powerful 3-way collaboration (I could've just said group but it doesn't fit anymore) between you, Teyana Taylor, and Azealia Banks with "singing" being only the beginning. (I know, give it a second) So I gave up on that a while back and would be cool with just now seeing conversation with you and either one in the future. Any chance of that happening? Thanks, Getting back into this Lizzo episode.
@@JogaYoe lol let's face it this was to promote her album lol They know no one's gonna go out of their way to look up the public records they'll just believe what their fans say lol
This is something most new leaders experience. You try to be the person you wish your boss was, but realize quickly why they keep boundaries between themselves and their team.
This !! To add there is no “training “ or mentorship in a lot of these positions to help the transition from employee to boss . It can be extremely hard to navigate the intention of the environment you want to cultivate versus the impact it may have on.
Ding, Ding. That was me-a 24-year-old operations manager. I disliked my former boss for her character. As a new manager, I aimed to be approachable but struggled to find a balance. I learned that I needed to set boundaries while being nice. I'm educated and paid to be their boss, not their friend. Setting boundaries and respecting employees is key.
The way Keke described the way things could have been taken or misconstrued is what I actually believed happened. i don’t think Lizzo intentionally meant harm but professionally she learned a hard lesson. Everyone not your friends these are your employees.
That question also highlights her blind spots. I can look at her body language and facial expressions and see there’s some culpability. Now will those claims stand up in court? Maybe not. However, this doesn’t look good for her.
I think that $MONEY was a big factor here. Celebrities are continually in the news be sued by various people around them, sometimes legitimate but often behind greed.
Perfect comment. I believe lizzo is largely innocent but she seems completely oblivious to how things could have been miscontrued, which is a red flag. The dancers were obviously looking for a cash grab but Lizzo should have done a better job with boundaries and professionalism. Her thinking her employees are friends are part of the problem. Your employees are never your friends because the power dynamics in the relationship is going to lead to a lot of misunderstandings like this.
i just quit my job because my boss acted like this: she wanted to be a best friend and not a boss, which led to her not fulfilling some boss responsibilities and doing waaaaaaaay too much to get close and be best friends. she had good intentions, but they were unwanted and inappropriate, and it puts employees in a weird place
I totally hear you and your feelings are VALID AF ; Id like to add nuance of Lizzo being fat and blk and trying to create safe spaces for other "fat " woman of color .Also, another variable is Lizzo is known for and her show celebrated sexuality and art which adds another layer .
Yeah, but I don’t really feel like that’s what Lizzo did, this isn’t corporate. This is a singers tour? Of course now she knows she’ll never do it again, but even still any rational person would not have seen this coming.
Lizzo has a great publicist. She definitely was prepped to handle all of these questions. Keke, for her to be a celebrity, she is really coming across as a trained journalist. Great interview.
I think more is needed then. Because I honestly don't think these claims are all that serious but her responses are giving confusion as though she's had no time to reflect
Only 16 mins in but shoutout to Keke for the way she's asking these questions - direct and also asking what fans/people are wondering or want to ask or know.
@@Sumcutiee yea but if you watch real journalists like Oprah, Gayle King, Tamron Hall, Barbara Walter’s, etc….they will get answers through their questions and follow up questions. There was almost no reason for her to do an interview about this if it was gonna be for jokes.
@@CosmicJournee Keke isn't a journalist so there's that. She's an actor with a Podcast. Considering they are colleagues or maybe friends even , Keke did a great job still of asking the important questions. This isn't CNN or BBC..
Her openness may be cultural. She is southern. Hospitality is engrained in the culture. When she got more famous, she began to hire people that were not raised like her. Cultural norms turn into a given in your mind. You only notice your “your culture norms” when you are outside of your culture. I would recommend traveling solo or with a very small group, for purposes other than work, to discover more of who she is. Experiencing other cultures is like holding a mirror to yourself.
As a black man I can understand why this black woman found another black woman with a REPUTABLE platform to tell her side of the story.. it’s called a safe space. Some of yall piss me off with the accountability politics.
@@kingdivostrut “accountability politics” is insane to say when this was a real case with real alleged victims. Would you say the same thing about Diddy? 🤔
@ you clearly don’t read I said don’t piss me off. 92 other people clearly understood what I meant and you’re proving my point. Luckily this comment section is a “safe space” for people to speak their opinions and be the faces of accountability politics. Isn’t that correct Cosmic? Diddy was drugging and taking advantage of people.. HOWEVER Cosmic since you asked.. if he found a safe space to tell his truth then so be it. We all know he was wrong but every person deserves the chance to speak their side. There are exceptions to the rule but I’ll let that be that. Black women are always unprotected which is why I felt safe saying what I said about a black woman finding a safe space to speak her side on a black platform. Can’t wait for your response Cosmic. ✌🏾☺️
Truly yet another talent of Keke Palmer. She is built for this type of work, hard hitting questions without coming across as confrontional or rude. True intellectual curiosity. Sometimes it's not just the way certain questions are answered it's the questions that aren't answered that tell a story. I think Lizzo sidestepping the question about the dismissal of these dancers prior to the tour tells about 90% of the story. They were mad they didn't get picked up for the tour, and to Keke's point throughout the interview, certain situations Lizzo put her employees in trying to be "cool" with them were ripe for these kind of allegations when someone gets their feelings hurt. The girls were doing stuff trying to win favor with Lizzo that they may or may not have been comfortable with at the time but once they weren't on the tour and saw how successful it was, now there are hurt feelings and an opportunity to use this laidback/cool management style to try to get a check. I don't think there was ever any intention by Lizzo to do those girls any harm, and I definitely believe that had they done the tour, they would have no problems with anything they made accusations of in the lawsuit.
Lizzo was being inappropriate with her dancers, thinking they were her friends. I don’t think she had bad intentions whatsoever. But she definitely is gonna learn to keep things professional moving forward.
Well, if that’s the case why did her case get dismissed though?? If they felt a way, they should’ve talked to her instead of suing her. It looks like that the communication wasn’t even there though to be honest. I don’t believe that Lizzo did anything to deserve a lawsuit, but I feel as though they should’ve talked to Lizzo so that none of this didn’t have to happen. I feel like a lot of things could be cleared up if we really communicated better with people and make sure that person understands what you’re saying. I’m just 12 minutes in and I can tell this was lack of communication for sure though. P.S. - I know there are other cases pending, but she hasn’t been found guilty because there was sufficient evidence that proved she did nothing wrong.
@@jasminetate0117It's not really about proving guilt or innocence in action. It's just something Lizzo, as a boss/shot caller, is going to need to understand. It is inherently her responsibility to not allow certain things to happen. Things she fully encouraged during that tour. To her credit, she's also said she's learned a lot about boundaries and her role/responsibility in overseeing the team.
Keke is so wonderful in anything she does. I love how she walked the line of holding Lizzo accountable by highlighting how the dancers could have felt without seeming like she was coming down too hard on her. Those dancers wanted a payout & Lizzo was not conducting herself as someone in a leadership position so she made it easy for them.
I like that Keke brought up another perspective when she asked if maybe her dancers felt like they had to go because Lizzo was their boss not saying that Lizzo did anything wrong but I like how Keke asked that question like she was playing devils advocate instead of just automatically jumping to the defense of Lizzo, I think she’s a good interviewer
Lizzo and I share a birthday, and I was so excited when my girlfriend got me tickets to the show for my birthday in 2023. I had been through some really tough things, and that night lifted me to a place and I was able to turn a corner and start fully living again. Music and shows are so powerful. I work in HR and when the rumors came out, I had a gut feeling I knew what was happening, and I was heart broken. It really was like this weird connection to my own healing that was being drug through the mud. Rather than losing faith in Lizzo and her bright light, I lost some more faith in human beings. I'm glad to see that she is also seeing this and learning and growing, but not not letting it dim the light we all need so much. This helps restore my faith in humanity and reminds me to not lose it so easily. Even through this, her grace shows us a way we can be. Thank you so much for this interview. Thank you for being you. I love you.
When I first became a boss I didn’t understand the dynamics and the risks of blurring “friendship” lines until I was fired from my first director job after my “work friends” started slacking at work and I had to enforce rules and regulations. I then became a “tyrant” to them and HR made a decision to let me go. I’m happy to see Lizzo bouncing back.
Sorry that happened to you first! And that’s so crazy with corporate politics being so ASS backwards because if anything, the slackers should Have been let go one by one, inviting an actual “hard working” team with you as director. Wish you well genuinely 🤲🏾
This Happened to be too. I wasn't let go but I lost most of my friends. They couldn't understand that though I was their friend and Co worker that now I'm their boss and I can't just let them do whatever they want because everything that happens is my responsibility and a reflection of me as a leader. I can't lead where you don't follow, so these are the expectations. And yea you find out quick how fickle relationships are
When I watched her show looking for dancers....I got the energy that she didn't pick up on a lot of social cues. I think she does struggle to think of others feelings and experience, and it seems she might have some impulse control or emotional regulation issues. When she said "Those words never came out of my mouth" Idk if Keke even believed her I love Keke and think she did a really job!
yeah, i get the vibe she may have said stuff that wasn't the kindest but wasn't meant to sound that egregious. She probs said smth along the lines of it or smth w that implication. I don't think it was her intention but ooh the impact didn't come out well. I'm def seeing the vibe that she's figuring out how to have a leadership role and also create a safe space without being too friendly or lashing out. that's rough fr
I’m writing from the perspective of someone who has experienced sexual assault (SA) at the hands of a very well-liked individual-not someone famous, but someone with significant influence and many friends within their social circle. The assault left me feeling profoundly isolated and disbelieved because of how well-regarded this person was. Right now, I’m also dealing with a deeply unsettling situation at work. Something serious happened during my shift, and although I was completely unaware of it at the time, I’m being held responsible until proven otherwise. It’s making me question myself in ways I never thought possible. I know all too well the desperation of wanting to prove that a situation is not what it seems from MY perspective anyways as i'm living it right now. In saying that… There’s something about her demeanor that feels sorta off-putting to me. I find myself almost resentful of the opportunity she’s been given by Kiki, particularly because she seems so unwilling to acknowledge why others might see things differently from her perspective. Even after a few years have passed, with ample time for reflection, she appears to be distancing herself from her actions. Her statements like “my team is all Black” or “I’m fat” feel like a way to deflect rather than engage in meaningful accountability. It seems like an easy out like "I have a daughter so I can't hate women" or "I have a black friend so I can't be racist" or as she said "I'm a fat black woman so how could I ever hurt a fat black woman". It CAN provide some context because why would someone hurt someone in their community , or a friend or a partner but these things happen all the time . What’s bothered me most so far is her implication that the dismissal of a case against her automatically means it was fabricated. As a survivor of SA, I feel the need to address this directly. Reporting SA is an extraordinarily difficult process. Cases often get dismissed-not because nothing happened, but because SA is so hard to prove. Most of the time, it boils down to a “he said, she said” situation, with little to no physical evidence to meet the high legal standard required. Dismissal does not equate to innocence, nor does it mean the allegations were baseless. For instance, sexual coercion isn’t even legally recognized in some places (including my country), further complicating the pursuit of justice. It’s painful to see her gloss over these nuances, as if the dismissal itself is a conclusive vindication. This may mean Lizzo is not going to be held legally accountable but it dosen't mean her staff are lying. The only real acknowledgment I’ve seen from her is the realization that her team isn’t her friends. I still feel the justification in her language. She seems to cast herself as innocent, framing it as a learning experience rather than taking deeper responsibility. Yes, it’s a valuable lesson, but regardless of her intentions, the power imbalance inherent in a celebrity asking employees to socialize with them leaves little room for genuine refusal. That’s the part I wish she would confront more openly especially if she is able to awkowledge that the dancers at the event welcomed her and her team back stage "because it's me" recognizing herself as a celebrity. Some people deal with imposter syndrome and therefore may not see themselves in the celebrity light they live or recognize the power they have but she seems to see it to an extent. So ya Lizzo , don't bring your employees to sex clubs. I fear her staff won't get the recognition they desire but this is the way of the world.
You summed it up perfectly. I was a big girl for literally my entire childhood where I also experienced abuse from men and women. Lizzo is so disingenuous, and this entire thing was a ploy to say, "ok yea there are allegations, don't believe them because I portray to you that I'm for inclusive and positivity, believe all women expect for my former team of women of color, and look forward to my new album." She lied. Her case with the dancers is still ongoing. The dismissed case was with her former stylist, and it was solely dismissed for NOW because it happened in another country. The plaintiff in that case, also a woman of color, just has to file a claim against Lizzo based on the jurisdiction of the alleged incidents. I don't want to excuse Keke either because she has discussed and made statements in her "memoir" about dating an adult as a minor, kissing 17yro as a preteen, Trey Songz abusing his power, etc. Now because Lizzo is a black woman celebrity, we must stand with her and give her another chance as these black women/women of color who aren't famous don't receive any positive attention because we're above them. I was not feeling this at all.
I’m telling yall. I’m an human lie detector and a huge vibe / energy reader. While she may not be fully lying about particular details of these events. She does have a dark presence. she seems like a sociopath to Me, or atleast have some of those tendencies.
Lizzo talking about wanting to work with friends/bring friends along reminds me of Megan Thee Stallion's experience and yrics: I wanted everybody right here with me But that was my fault, bein' too friendly I was thinkin' everything was all good But the whole time, you was my enemy
Hit it right on the head. We as Black women always want our fellow sista and brotha to win. When we have a platform and the resources, it's easy to confuse the enemy as a friend. Sometimes we get blind sited bc we care not knowing that our enemy is playing in our face while smiling waiting on our down fall. That ish hurts 😢
There’s nothing like finding out something that you cared a lot for it actually does not wish the best for you. Like they’re secretly wishing and praying on your downfall. Smh
yall kill me personalizing everything these puppets do and say.. smh yall will acknowledge the agenda when it come to anything else but megan is the exception lmaoo got it it’s weird who was megan even referring to? who is her enemy? herself lmao girl is a friend to no one, what enemy girl you been getting what you put out.. yeah thats called accountability something bw just have no concept of at all and its realky scary and dangerous for the rest of us 🥴
I think Keke did a good job of trying to give Lizzo some perspective on what these dancers could have experienced but Lizzo just dismisses everything. Like you never did a single thing wrong? Suspicious.
Previously, it would have been hard for me to believe that everything was made up, but this summer I went through a similar experience. I hired my friend to work on a project (after she'd been let go from a different project) and she absolutely failed. I tried so hard to work with her and set her up for success, but she never got it together. Still, I kept her on and when the project ended, she said in front of the entire team how grateful she was for my patience. There is literally a video of her crying and saying how the experience "changed her life." When we were doing a post-mortem on the project, I told her I wanted to change how she was credited since the work wasn't up to snuff -- completely legal per our contract. She lashed out. Told me that I was impatient, unfair, unkind. It was completely blindsiding and very hurtful, not only because it was completely false but because I had believed in her and given her a chance, and now she was acting as if I hadn't. The whole process I was "the most patient someone has ever been with me" and then when I tried to change her title, I was an angry Black woman and abusive. All this to say -- there are people who see your stardom, they see how far you'll go and they want to go along with you. When you cut off their access, it can throw them into a rage. Obviously, we'll never know the full truth, how much fault was Lizzo's, how much was fabricated by the dancers, but I can say that I've seen firsthand how ugly people can get when they feel like they've been denied.
@@MrColdwilliam Sensible women have always said this. Stop conflating internet noise to real life. All the sensible women I know in real life have always said let us create for a safe space for women to speak out but at the same time, we should not crucify the accuser until we see all the facts and/or it plays out in the court of law.
This was so well written, do you have a blog or books or scripts you're working on? I normally don't read long comments (not because I dislike reading but because I'm not on youtube for that) but this was so easy to consume.
I’m 22 minutes in, and I’m conflicted. Do I believe when they filed the lawsuit that everything was 100% true, no. But do I believe that they somehow made literally everything up? Also no.
Keke: Do you feel like your bar personality could me misconstrued as I’ve got to do this this is my boss just because that’s how they’re seeing it? Lizzo: Honey, the boundaries I have now are as wide as the ocean. So, you didn’t answer the question?
@codyw_92 I think she did answer the question. didnt she say she didnt know they were going to be there? she also said certain things didnt happen or she didnt say certain things. I think it may be fair to say what happened and how they may have interpreted things did not meet the legal definition of any form of harassment. that is meaningful and translates to a misunderstanding to me. not so much making things up but a legal professional trying to make conclusions and connections where they dont exist.
The reason I’ll always click on an episode without hesitation is because time and time and time again keke keeps it real. I’ve said it before on another episode and I’ll say it again. Keke is so good at asking the difficult questions, while maintaining respect and practicing true active listening. So often podcasts these days is one person interrupting the next to get out what they want to say. You’re a pro keke, through and through.
This was a wonderful interview. Thank you, Keke for the questions and Lizzo for the honesty. I can see myself in the early years of being an entrepreneur not setting up strict boundaries because I was hiring my friends and didn't have bad experiences. Lizzo had to go through it to learn the lesson and it sounds like she did. I respect both of these women for thriving in an industry that is known to be deceptive; protecting themselves from the fickled media; going to therapy to stay balanced and all of the things that keep them grounded. Unfortunately, fans are fickled, too. Imagine someone who considers themselves your fan or supporter, but they don't know you personally, and then the media releases a sensationalized report about you and without any facts, 150K of them decide to stop following you. And then people that you do know, sue you and your organization for claims that you know you didn't engage in? That must be painful to the core. I'm just glad that Lizzo learned the lesson. Thank you, Lizzo, for choosing Keke Palmer to share your truth. Awesome interview!!! Happy Holidays!
Oftentimes when you’re the CEO or Boss, you see your employees as peers and friends as KeKe said. After 18 years of business I still get it wrong sometimes when becoming close to those who work with you. But now I have come to a point where I’m just giving assignments and nothing more than a hello. When you’re a natural giver or people person it can be challenging. I’m so proud of Lizzo. When you’re bringing people along make sure they want you to keep your place too! ❤
Such a good convo. I love how a sis can interview another sis and ask all the right questions because we have similar mindset and community. Loved both of yaw. The transparency. KeKe was not being easy and asked all the questions. The Christmas movie for me is the classics it's a wonderful life and a christmas carol. I wanted her to talk about her weight loss and what motivated that.
The dancers said multiple times that they went through the HR channels to address the issues they had and that they were ignored or shut down. I feel like her arguments are „Everybody had a great time“, „That never happened“, „ I usually crack my knuckles and someone used it to make a false claim“. No reflections on the actual events.
Exactly. It’s givingggg I know exactly how to be just the rt amount of vague and proclaim accountability..but her energy and facial expressions are…idk man my gut is saying, lie.
This is why I really dont get too personal with coworkers. I do not want to be involved in BS. When I was younger I would try to be friends but people get taken advantage of and people throw you under the bus with personal information theyve gleaned from you. Ive seen so much work place sexual harassment from WOMEN as well. Leading on male co workers to get ahead then reporting them if they dont get their way. Worked in hospitality, sales, and salons and at almost every place Ive seen inappropriate acts by people around me. Its made me keep to myself.
As a Black woman, ive faced so many social and career chalkenges due to the ostricization and power dynamics of other Black women. Lizzo needs to dig deeper and quit this "lm black. Im a woman. Im fat." This does not mean you arent practicing inappropriate and harmful behaviour.
Melissa. This was a great decision to host this discussion with another Black Woman peer. We see you. We hold place for your anxiety and struggles with this unfortunate situation. Her history with grief is something else to actually really discuss.
As a young boss I have found myself in situations like Lizzo's. And that's why when this news broke I was immediately skepitcal. But this was great episode and I want to carry the point of having professional boundaries with my employees and even business partnerships. Its unforunate but has to be done
Keke asked great questions the same questions that I want to know but I’m sorry my girl Lizzo is not being 100% truthful… in situations like these you have to take some kind of ownership and look at yourself with all the claims they may not have been all true, but most likely there is some truth in this… you mean to tell me that she was oblivious to everything… stop playing but do u girl… I hope this was truly a learning experience for change for everyone
@@tomika0390I mean to lizzos defense, she never knew this was an issue. The dancers never bright it to her and they also were no longer on the tour. So you have to think about how random it was for her to get this news of a lawsuit the day after the last day of touring.. not from current dancers but from ex dancers who were no longer touring with her. Why would she have even thought of this ? She didn't invite them to the bar, they came with their other group of friends. 17 of them and she was just having fun, or so she thought. But 2 people were plotting. And the 3rd allegedly wasn't even there
Listen, there’s always some truth in these types of claims; they didn’t come from absolutely nowhere. And for Lizzo to play defense this entire interview, and not own any of it, it’s disappointing
What’s crazy is that, in the court of public opinion, once someone has been accused, there are people who will choose to believe it regardless of the truth. It’s fair to say that people interpret things differently. It happens in our lives every day. But once a person is accused of “doing wrong”, they are stained forever. But kudos to Lizzo for picking herself back up. No matter what, it’s up to us to decide whether we deserve the good things we have in this life, not anyone else. Also, face cards on both sides of the screen. Flawless.
So I think yall are missing the piece that she’s still in litigation so she can’t admit fault because it can be used against her so she’s skating around it. So she can’t admit fault she can just tell what did or didn’t happened from her perspective.
Her body language is fascinating she definitely isn’t being completely honest about what happened or the things she did but when it comes to the allegations against her all she is showing is honesty. I personally think that the only thing she is guilty of is being naive and trying to create a group around her due to the loneliness of touring. She may have not taken into consideration who she is and that the people around her may not have felt like they could say no to her because she was their employer. I truly believe that she is a good person who genuinely cares about people but she forgot that when you become famous you have a different kind of power over people and you have to be careful how you use it even if you don’t mean to cause harm. I hope that she manages to recover from this it kind of sums her up that she got into trouble through trying to be inclusive of others and treat them kindly she is a great lady that deserves to have a second chance to get it right.
Since there's still some ongoing litigation, she can't cop to anything as it would be used against her. I think she did the right thing by doing an interview, I just wish she did it after all the legal issues were resolved.
This comment is unnecessary. The case is not finished so yea cnt just say how it happened yet with final results. I respect she still said her side of the story to the best of her legal ability. She a real one. If you know u know. Like Johnny dep. All over again. Yall never learn lol
She obviously can not speak on certain things bc some cases are still ongoing. Listen to understand not just to judge. This conversation is important for everyone to learn work professionalism.
@ please forgive me if it appeared that I was judging her that was not my intention at all. I truly believe that she is a person of integrity and an excellent role model for young people in an industry that churns out toxic examples of human beings. I admire her very much she is incredibly talented and intelligent and I accept that I might not have made myself very clear in my comment about what I was trying to say. I firmly believe that the only thing she is guilty of is being herself and trying to create a atmosphere of inclusiveness in her work life and unfortunately people took advantage of that to try to destroy her reputation. It’s just who she is and she has proven time and again that when it comes to the bigger issues she isn’t like others and only interested in the publicity she is a champion for causes that are important to her and the toxic nature of the media and society. I am not a person of colour I’m just a 52 year old white male which of course has given me privilege that she has not had and I know I’m not her target audience. I have four granddaughters and I want them to have positive role models in their lives which is why I introduced her to them because she embodies the values that I hope they grow up to have and not be ashamed of themselves. I think I was just very moved by the honesty of both Lizzie and Keke in the interview and I was trying to be supportive and use my experience as a clinical psychologist to point out her honesty and I obviously got it wrong thank you for pointing out my shortcomings I appreciate it.
I have a lot of empathy for Lizzo and the position she’s in. I think she’s handling this with grace as much as she’s able to right now. However, I have had bosses that consistently cross boundaries or have no professionalism, and they never think they have done anything wrong. It’s always “I never said that” or “I’ve done nothing but support people,” all of which is exactly what Lizzo is saying here. I find it really hard to believe that EVERY situation was a misunderstanding. Keke masterfully was doing her best to give Lizzo opportunities to provide clarity or to issue apologies on where she dropped the ball and she ducked and dodged it every time. The good thing about all of this is that Lizzo learned a lot. Knowing when to be friendly with your staff vs. when to save certain language or behavior for close friends only is really important.
25:31 this is SO BEYOND TRUE especially for celebs I’ve seen it happen so many times where fans are so quick to turn their backs on their "favs" bc like Lizzo said it’s almost like people WANT to have proof of celebs being "bad people" they WANT and seek that gotcha moment it’s a very weird dynamic bc at the end of the day we are all human and we all mess up but as a celeb you are not allowed to mess up and if you do EVEN ONCE people will turn their backs on you so quickly .
I swear to the light I have had many similar experiences at my employment where coworkers and hire up's have tried to have that gotcha moment with me and it's starting to feel habitual and
Three things can be true at the same time. I think professionally, the lines were blurred. Even if Lizzo didn't have ill intent, there's no universe where the "Banana Bar" situation would be a normal thing for a boss to do with his/her employees. Sexual assault clauses exist in employment contracts for good reason. Lizzo happened to be there and she partook in the activities with them. She said they had consensual fun with the exotic dancer, but remember, those are your employees, NOT your homegirls. At all times, the employer-employee relationship exists, no matter the venue.
New to your podcast, but KeKe I feel like this podcast lane is perfect for you. You have the gift of gab. You Make your guests and audience feel home. I'm a prude and Crazy Horse is an amazing show!! After the initial surprise (about 2 minutes in) you forget the girls are even topless as the artistry is so amazing! I walked out amazed and in awe of how talented they all were.
Acknowledge how certain things “can be” perceived? God y’all people are soooooo weird…. You can’t talk, be, walk, act, without worrying how things “can be” perceived? God…. You can’t do anything anymore bc y’all are always trying to be so negative.
@@brendanalexcurran3429 no I'm not weird for saying it shouldn't be hard for a boss to acknowledge how her workers may perceive her. thanks for letting me know you can't disagree without insults though.
Lizzo: Everybody had a great time Keke: And then they didn't I can understand Lizzo defending herself stating she did nothing wrong and didn't put pressure on her dancers to participate. But to not acknowledge the perception of the dancers pov of wanting to please their boss. Cause as fun as this experience was, Lizzo is still their boss. Also, Lizzo not acknowledging members of her team could have gone overboard with how they interacted with the dancers is...hmmm🤔 There were vids of this woman on her team being an overzealous crazed religious nutjob. Like?? Anyways I did appreciate getting Lizzo's side of the story. But please look at the people you hire. It's never always gonna be rainbows and unicorns. And sometimes you have to have disciplinary actions for people that you consider your 'friends' in this work environment.
Fact is they LIED and they had numerous opportunities to say NO… they were all grown adults who could have declined those invites to go out… How many outings do you get invited to by your work colleagues???
I'm sorry, but there's no excuse when other employees choose not to go the burlesque place nor meeting the dancers. If you choose to not have a backbone and create a narrative that your boss will fire you, that's on you having no integrity to protect yourself regardless of work. Those other employees that chose not to go were back to work that morning keeling their job and peace it seems...so what gives. Suddenly you grow a backbone when you're fired? Nah, her ex employees were vindictive and asinine.
3 people say they didn't despite the physical evidence including videos of them having a good time in situations where they said they experienced abuse. Then they sued for money. How do we legitimize such abhorrent behaviour?
Lizzo has not been “dismissed” from anything. She is front and center in all of these lawsuits. The only thing that happened was a judge said she couldn’t be sued as an individual by ONE of the dancers, but make no mistake, she IS being sued and she hasn’t won anything. All of the suits are still in place and ongoing. This attempt from celebrities to try to explain their way out of lawsuits is always hilarious. She’s still heavily in the midst of courtroom procedure and things are not going well for her. Any attempt at a comeback or PR rehabilitation is FAR too early and the public is not interested or ready.
21:14 I’m sorry but this made me LAUGH real bad. Idk what to think there’s something disingenuous about Lizzo’s account of everything and response to the questions but then I also have to keep in mind that not all of these claims have been dismissed and I have to be cognizant of how she may need to respond accordingly to protect herself.
Two beautiful black woman. Emotionally intelligent. In therapy. Authentic. Raw. Real. Genuine. Bruised. The negativity these woman face is unfortunately the world we live in but as a dorky, band geek, god fearing black girl they are exactly the examples we need in this world. Learning from the inevitable of fame and still able to share and learn from their lessons. Not only that but continue to laugh and incorporate it into art. Lizzo Thank you for not letting this false narrative stop you from still being you and letting us in. We’ve been waiting for you! 🫶🏽
Sorry, but in any other workplace, if my boss invited me to a strip club or topless dance club, it would IMMEDIATELY be clocked as harassment… it’s in the trainings they send out every year
i think the strip club thing is a bit of a double standard where if the boss was male and invited female workers to a strip club it would def be a big issue...but when its a female boss with female employees its a bit of a grey area,,,,,
I wonder if Lizzo thinks she did nothing wrong because it's not in the typical sexual assault script of a man and a woman like trying to make someone touch a woman's breast is sexual harassment...(without consent) even if you think you're amongst friends and "everybody was having fun."
A lot of the situation seems like a matter of perspective. I appreciate Keke for giving Lizzo space for hers and offering an opposing viewpoint. I pray everyone involved can find peace & move forward.
It was dismissed because they were on tour in Europe where our laws don't apply and because the girls listed the touring and payroll companies as their employers and not Lizzo. Not because they found Lizzo innocent or because there was a lack of evidence. It would be inappropriate for Keke to emphasize that as a win
This comment is unnecessary. The case is not finished so yea cnt just say how it happened yet with final results. I respect she still said her side of the story to the best of her legal ability. She a real one. If you know u know. Like Johnny dep. All over again. Yall never learn lol
Some of the claims were dismissed because they didn't happen in US territory, so the judge didn't feel like we had jurisdiction over those claims. However, more than anything, this lawsuit has been going on for a while and unless it's "settled out of court", aka no public records, we shouldn't be taking sides. I like Lizzo's work, but I don't know her or her dancers. Picking sides based on third-party recounting is wild.
True but a lot of the claims have been dropped because either Lizzo herself couldn’t be held culpable, and some have been dropped because they were unfounded. It’s true that no one should take sides, but it’s truly sad if the dancers exaggerated these accusations.
Some of them were dismissed because they held no weight. Majority of the issues happened in the USA. Some of those were dismissed too. That being said, even when I read the claims I felt they were exaggerated if I'm being honest.
Lizzo NOW I’m gonna hold your hands when I say this: KEKE was leading you into accountability but to only pivot to “we had a good time” is not smart, it’s clear there was various lines of discourse but as a performer even if you did not cause it this is YOUR tour and teams do play a role in the treatment of backup talent. You may not have had anything to do with these claims but as a professional it’s important to extend empathy to an audience whom real fans or not believe in your message.
No she shouldn’t the world said fuck her plus the cases are still going on. She said she learned her lesson, that’s all the accountability she needs to give. Y’all annoy me acting like yall really give a damn about this lady. If yall “real” fans did yall wouldn’t even be posting shit like this. I’m not even a die hard fan and still respect how she handle the situation
@@timitchell9947not taking accountability when you are the employer is crazy. It's not "something you didn't do" it's "something you allowed to happen" it's called responsibility
As a professional in the sex industry, I totally feel the whole keeping things professional with people I work with. I do feel like there was some hard lessons in this, but this interview felt healing. I am looking forward to new music. I'm looking forward to more Lizzo. I'm just hopeful the path is lighter and easier from now on! 💕 Thank you Keke!
Some ppl will blindly believe anything. The stylist's case was dismissed due to jurisdiction, she worked for Lizzo on the European tour. The stylists still has an ongoing case against Lizzo's production company. And the 6 dancer's case is still on going also. Lizzo is not only a liar, but after watching this rehearsed PR interview, she stinks of narcissism. Keke is a sell out for allowing this type of interview. Helping celebrities hide their terrible behaviour.
this is exactly why i don't make friends w/ people at work. i go in, be cordial, go home and get my check. that's all the friend i need bcuz ppl are ruthless and you never know who is having the bad day, so i keep to myself. even if i was lizzo--we come in, say hello, have our production meetings, give encouragement to everyone to perform their best, a little work brunch catered at the venue the day the tour starts, have a catered brunch at an event center at the end of the tour, make sure everyone's paid every month and call it a wrap!
I saw someone say she tried to be the cool boss and it backfired immediately. Like I’m so sorry, but there’s no way a boss should be inviting their employees to strip clubs or sexually explicit places. Bffr y’all are not friends. The power dynamics alone make that completely inappropriate. But tbh, I don’t think the girls were being 100% truthful either so there’s that
Just to jump in and provide context because i love this show...Crazy Horse Paris is a seated burlesque stage show sooo far from a stripclub or social environment. Its well respected in Paris (like the moulin rouge) and Tickets are expensive (we paid €170+ each back in 2019) and is a must-do/ see in the city (as well as Moulin Rogue) especially for entertainment and arts industry even more so after Beyonce did the partition video there. I really can't imagine anything tasteless happening behind the scenes as they have the rep similar to the Rockettes or Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. The Amsterdam banana bar thing....yeah that's wild one because those shows are explicitly in the red light district - so you know what you're getting but even i didn't go to that. An unfortunate sitution, but i agree she probably should have arranged a trip for the dancers and her immediate team separate. A big lesson for her and others about blurred lines even if you want to share an experience.
@@Igobyjean doesn't matter. there should be a hard line you shouldn't cross with your employees. she clearly agrees in the video which is why she says it'll never happen again
@@KioshiWarriorWhy are you so determined for Lizzo to be a liar and won’t even entertain the idea that those girls were LYING? Hence why in the court of law the main suit was dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
Baby she skated all over this interview. Keke was asking her that hard hitting questions and Lizzo was navigating like she was a Lincoln. Lizzo need to be a politician the way she was answering these questions. 44:23
@ did we watch the same interview? Every time Keke asked the question Lizzo proceeded to go another way around answering it. It wasn’t a direct response. There were some things she just wanted to say and they were not answers to those specific questions. Please go back and watch. Plus, it was also a little bit of revisionist history when she was saying that she invited 17 dancers and then she goes back and contradicts. I’m no way invested one way or another. I just clicked on the live and seen that this was on because I love Keke. I’m just telling you what I just observed.
@seanalexandermedia you observed but didn't listen. She never said that she said she invite one dancer and the dancer said 17 people are coming. That is different than she invited all 17 people. Listen twice...respond once.
7:50 an important note, the Crazy Horse burlesque dance revue isn’t some brand new modern club, but has been a Paris staple since the 1950s. Global burlesque star Dita Von Teese was their first major guest performer. Dita mentioned she once met Beyoncé’s father Matthew on a flight, he asked her about her work (not knowing who she was) and the next thing you know, Beyoncé’s music video for “Partition” features stage acts from the Crazy Horse Paris show.
I'm not sure Matthew was that connected with what Beyonce was doing at that time. Se let him go as a manager after the previous album and this was around the time he fathered two children and her parents divorced.
@@drubert1981Since I didn’t provide dates, I’m not saying her father was directly involved during development of that particular album cycle, but would have tipped her off to the club much earlier on. As seen here, Keke didn’t even know what Crazy Horse was, so even being figures in the entertainment world, folks can have blind spots to other creators.
@@djramshead I'm not calling you a liar. I am saying there is a possibility someone else in her circle gave her the idea. Dita Von Teese was pretty well known at the time. Keke is much younger than Beyonce so it isn't really shocking that she wasn't aware of the Crazy Horse. But it is pretty well known that she wasn't speaking to Matthew after the cheating scandal between 4, the Beyonce album and divorce. whatever the case, we got some beautiful music and visuals out of the situation.
?? girl Beyonce was well aware of the establishment before her father, she took her husband there for his birthday and that was what inspired the video. She has said so numerous times

Yep!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So true. We all had to learn this lesson the hard way. Albeit, Lizzo’s was time 1000
Exactly ! That’s what I believe it is. Especially if they have worked other tours or events with stricter artist they may see things differently
@@backto-il9ne Well said, however this was definitely her lesson learned. Hopefully everything else gets dismissed as well.
i just quit my job because my boss acted like this: she wanted to be a best friend and not a boss, which led to her not fulfilling some boss responsibilities and doing waaaaaaaay too much to get close and be best friends. she had good intentions, but they were unwanted and inappropriate, and it puts employees in a weird place
I totally hear you and your feelings are VALID AF ; Id like to add nuance of Lizzo being fat and blk and trying to create safe spaces for other "fat " woman of color .Also, another variable is Lizzo is known for and her show celebrated sexuality and art which adds another layer .
This exactly why I don’t “hangout” with my co workers. I want to maintain professional boundaries. We ain’t fucking friends we’re here to get the bag
I hear that… it sucks. I wonder at what point is it worth a lawsuit 🤔
Yeah, but I don’t really feel like that’s what Lizzo did, this isn’t corporate. This is a singers tour? Of course now she knows she’ll never do it again, but even still any rational person would not have seen this coming.
Thanks for this. I started a business a year ago

I truly believe the thing she was "guilty" of was not knowing her role these were her dancers not her best friends.
She’s guilty of much more than that. Keep up with their upcoming court hearings in the new year if you want to know the truth.
I would watch the tv show where she found these dancers. Not a good look on Lizzo’s part.
truly. her and meg give me the same vibes. a little to kind and open for their own good. gotta protect hearts like those
Her openness may be cultural.
She has a responsibility as the artist. Don’t do that….
As a black man I can understand why this black woman found another black woman with a REPUTABLE platform to tell her side of the story.. it’s called a safe space. Some of yall piss me off with the accountability politics.

In saying that…
There’s something about her demeanor that feels sorta off-putting to me.
Lizzo is so disingenuous, and this entire thing was a ploy to say, "ok yea there are allegations, don't believe them because I portray to you that I'm for inclusive and positivity, believe all women expect for my former team of women of color, and look forward to my new album."
She lied.
So well said!! Something didn’t sit right with me in the ways she chose to respond
Good to see people saw what I saw. I couldn’t find words it was so clear to me.
I’m telling yall. I’m an human lie detector and a huge vibe / energy reader. While she may not be fully lying about particular details of these events. She does have a dark presence. she seems like a sociopath to Me, or atleast have some of those tendencies.
@@Mase.Princei can feel it too!! It’s like she can’t acknowledge there was even a possibility for anyone to feel uncomfortable
@@Natra9💯 right on that

I think Keke did a good job of trying to give Lizzo some perspective on what these dancers could have experienced but Lizzo just dismisses everything. Like you never did a single thing wrong? Suspicious.
Very. A lot was very unsettling.
Next, Keke should interview the dancers
yes
yes!!!
They have already proven they lie
I wonder if they would want to be interviewed by anyone? I'm sure they would be scared of backlash
Ive lived to see wmn say "don't believe all wmn". What a time to be alive.

I DOES HONEE
I’m 22 minutes in, and I’m conflicted. Do I believe when they filed the lawsuit that everything was 100% true, no. But do I believe that they somehow made literally everything up? Also no.
Keke: Do you feel like your bar personality could me misconstrued as I’ve got to do this this is my boss just because that’s how they’re seeing it?
Lizzo: Honey, the boundaries I have now are as wide as the ocean.
So, you didn’t answer the question?
Having wide boundaries now? NOW!! IT ANSWERS ITSELF BASICALLY!
@@Mercifully-Millicia the fact that she has stronger boundaries now doesn't mean she did anything wrong. The case was dismissed!
@@Fluuuvthe case could’ve been dismissed for a number of reasons. It doesn’t mean those things didn’t happen.

Masterful interviewer skills from Keke's part. Like WOW.
On a couple of the claim I can tell she’s just straight up lying; the way her voice changing and she making sure she’s acting innocent
you two have got chemistry on screen it’s hilarious. It’s great.
Flawless.
Exactly. People have a tendency to run with headlines as well.
So I think yall are missing the piece that she’s still in litigation so she can’t admit fault because it can be used against her so she’s skating around it. So she can’t admit fault she can just tell what did or didn’t happened from her perspective.
Thank you for saying this!
Wish interview was done after all charges were dropped
The main case I believe was dismissed. They're just still some other lingering pieces that need to be resolved.
Her production company is still but Lizzo her part has been dismissed
*balls up fists* "Oooo you so lucky!" HAS ME CRYING 😂😂
I think I was just very moved by the honesty of both Lizzie and Keke in the interview and I was trying to be supportive and use my experience as a clinical psychologist to point out her honesty and I obviously got it wrong thank you for pointing out my shortcomings I appreciate it.
agreed
Lizzo's lack of accountability for even being PERCEIVED as being in the wrong in any fashion was so incredibly off-putting.
Incredibly. A lot is.
This is because Lizzo is still in a lawsuit. So she has to be careful with her words.
If she’s so t admitting any fault whatsoever, how can you declare that she has learned anything??
25:31 this is SO BEYOND TRUE especially for celebs I’ve seen it happen so many times where fans are so quick to turn their backs on their "favs" bc like Lizzo said it’s almost like people WANT to have proof of celebs being "bad people" they WANT and seek that gotcha moment it’s a very weird dynamic bc at the end of the day we are all human and we all mess up but as a celeb you are not allowed to mess up and if you do EVEN ONCE people will turn their backs on you so quickly .
NOT SAYING LIZZO OR ANY CELEB IS ABOVE "ACCOUNTABILITY" just think it’s weird how we see celebs as not human who can’t make mistakes

Keke, your questions, just amazing .

I can understand Lizzo defending herself stating she did nothing wrong and didn't put pressure on her dancers to participate.
Exactly
They lied. The end.
Club Shay Shay better watch out! I would feel so comfortable going on his or your couch to talk. So proud of you for going into this space, Keke!!
I believe she's stated somewhere else the lawsuits are not over

Sorry, but in any other workplace, if my boss invited me to a strip club or topless dance club, it would IMMEDIATELY be clocked as harassment… it’s in the trainings they send out every year
i think the strip club thing is a bit of a double standard where if the boss was male and invited female workers to a strip club it would def be a big issue...but when its a female boss with female employees its a bit of a grey area,,,,,
Business meetings do take place in the strip clubs though. Like that's a real thing.
I wonder if Lizzo thinks she did nothing wrong because it's not in the typical sexual assault script of a man and a woman like trying to make someone touch a woman's breast is sexual harassment...(without consent) even if you think you're amongst friends and "everybody was having fun."

💯 bothers me that Keke didn't emphasize this important point.
The lawsuit has not been dismissed.
@@SparkleInYourEyes2024 I just googled it and it says it was dismissed?
The level of lawyer that Lizzo can afford is substantial
It was dismissed because they were on tour in Europe where our laws don't apply and because the girls listed the touring and payroll companies as their employers and not Lizzo.
Not because they found Lizzo innocent or because there was a lack of evidence.
It would be inappropriate for Keke to emphasize that as a win

She was trying to be a cool boss and it backfired. Got to learn to set boundaries
But tbh, I don’t think the girls were being 100% truthful either so there’s that
Companies go to strip clubs all the time and those were grown ah women playing fake victims
1) Its the entertainment industry, not corporate.
2) background dancers are known to get really close to the artists' they dance for at times.
@@tone901 idk which company you work for but no tf they do not
@@Igobyjean doesn't matter. there should be a hard line you shouldn't cross with your employees. she clearly agrees in the video which is why she says it'll never happen again
I believe her. I follow one of her dancers and she personally backed Lizzo up.
Some people aren’t strong enough to speak the truth and only want to protect themselves and their pockets.
@@KioshiWarriorWhy are you so determined for Lizzo to be a liar and won’t even entertain the idea that those girls were LYING? Hence why in the court of law the main suit was dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
@@anseldeangelonot due to lack of evidence - but due to Anti-SLAPP laws that protect “artistic freedom of speech.” 🙄
@@KioshiWarriordid you not hear ? THEY ARENT EMPLOYED BY HER SINCE HER LAST TOUR!!!!! Stop being so darn weird
Keke you did an amazing job during this interview. Love it!
“But then they didn’t.” 😑 😆😂
I live for these types of conversations. Poignant, authentic, and humorous. Love to Keke & Lizzie 😘 ❤❤❤
😂😂😂😂... THIS IS PURE COMEDY...Keke you wrong, dead ass wrong for making this so ENTERTAINING 😂🎉😂🎉😅😮😮😮
Baby she skated all over this interview. Keke was asking her that hard hitting questions and Lizzo was navigating like she was a Lincoln. Lizzo need to be a politician the way she was answering these questions. 44:23
How...by saying these things never happened? That's a direct response to each question.
@@seanalexandermedia I wrote the same thing. Almost every question Keke asked, Lizzo didn’t answer the question directly. That’s shady business
@seanalexandermedia you observed but didn't listen. She never said that she said she invite one dancer and the dancer said 17 people are coming. That is different than she invited all 17 people. Listen twice...respond once.
@ ok. Lizzo payroll
What is the implication here? Beyonce has visited the show several times years before "Partition" video was filmed.
?? girl Beyonce was well aware of the establishment before her father, she took her husband there for his birthday and that was what inspired the video. She has said so numerous times
KeKe is literally a cross between 2 icons, Angela Bassett and Lynn Whitfield. All 3 are AMAZING!
