A little tip from my Bibi ( Romani word for grandmother)
Crush the garlic, ginger and horse radish to make a more poultice consistency in a mortar and pestle. She says it makes the garlic work better. In my studies I was curious about this and researched garlic for the immune system in school. Turns out Bibi was right! Garlic produces a compound called alicin when crushed not cut.
✌🏽💕💕💕💕 Bibi!
Bibi's always know best! Thanks, friend ❤️
Cutting garlic also produces allicin
💯
Good to know ty
I made this less than seventy-two hours ago but I used only tinctures and I beat the flu in less than 50 hours. Feeling at least 95 percent better.
The garlic skins can be left on because they are very nutritious and medicinal and will be filtered out with everything anyways. Just crush and slice the cloves with them on.
Yes crushing releases the allicin in the garlic oil .
In my recipe I peeled nothing and mashed my garlic. The peels have a lot of nutrients in them. You strain everything in the end anyway so I feel I get all the same results.
I tested making chicken bone broth with veggies thrown in at the end for flavor and such. Half of the carrots i used, i peeled and, half I didnt. The carrots with the peels retained significantly more flavor and sweetness after cooking whereas the ones i peeled had none. Just a thought...maybe peeling helps? 🤔
As long as you scrub the veggies really really well before adding to cider and/or broth making.
The black pepper also increases the bioavailability of the beneficial molecules in the herbs and is an excellent enhancement to the turmeric.
that is true...realtalk
Benjamin, I have been making it for years and I always add black pepper. Whenever you use turmeric you must use blackpepper. Stay healthy and God bless you. 🌹
How much black pepper do you use? Is it freshly ground? And just curious if you could use peppercorns?
Agreed, black pepper helps the body absorb turmeric… not sure about amounts, I generally use a good size pinch.
Try the Tellicherry peppercorns . It has a higher volume of piperine . It can increase the absorption of the curcumin .
ginger, garlic, horseradish, lemon, jalapeno, turmeric root, ground pepper, red onion (just about in equal volumes, thyme - sliced, diced, whatever and then steep in apple cider vinegar + honey (optional and to taste)...blessings
What ? Can you repeat that ? I didn't hear it the first time . lol
You must have watched the video too... Good for you.
Thanks buddy i was watching in bed, and didn’t have a pen! Good summary!
Ty, it wasn't in the description, just a link.
Than you Paul for this comment! That helps alot. Nothing like leaving something out of a recipe. I am doing it today, I Got it all together. 👍
I dehydrate all of the remaining veggies and seal them to use later in the winter to add to soups.
Remaining veggies. As in the peels, scraps or strained from the jar???
Oh that is a great idea. I have been making fire cider relish with my leftover veggies. I just fill a pint jar with them and add a small bit of vinegar and salt, then can it.
Love this idea!
I put rosemary...oregano...and thyme. Blueberries...oranges...top it off with a hand full of blackberry leaf
Tastes like salad dressing. So we use it on salads!
@Lola Dennler I’m curious about the addition of the blackberry leaves… Can you tell me what you know about the nutritional benefits of those? Thanks.
@@loreloreinaace5803 detoxification and antiviral...
Please look it up....always research your recipes and ingredients (herbs) before taking them.
What a great idea to use as salad dressing. 😃
LOL , There are BOOKS ! full of herbal ingredients to add to the mix . Be careful , cross contamination , like too much iron or vitamin A OR .................a million other worries . Keep it simple . I read Edgar Cayce medicinal remedies . THAT guy is an alien , if anyone is . LOL
In my house we have to call Dragon Medicine so my kids will take it. I like to put it in tomato juice.
That is a great idea!
If you added vodka, you could call it a Bloody Dragon.
@@EnfinLibreNM Most herbal tinctures are made with cheap vodka.
@@donolinger6904 So that it make it a Bloody Cheap Dragon. ;-)
I do that, my friends beg me for a glass. Even their kids, they love it.
I started making this about 7 years ago. I had painful leg cramps at night. I was told that ACV would help. It did.
I then made Fire cider. I now make about a gallon at a time. That lasts me more than a year.
Good for what ails you.
How did ACV help with the cramps? Did you drink it or rub it on your legs?
@@lene5894 I drink a tablespoon or two diluted in a glass of water. Helps my leg cramps. Better than anything else I have tried.
I have had mine over a year what is the shelf life of firecider?
Also, you can grow Meyer's Lemon trees at home, even indoors, fairly easily. They'll work in pots, it's a miniature tree. Apparently the flowers are also very fragrant, so indoors that is a bonus. At least a periodic source of fresh lemons not sprayed down with pesticides.
Thanks, I’ve been trying to grow a lemon tree inside!
Thank you- I have a Meyer lemon tree and the lemons are just now ripening!🍋
I never knew they were a miniature tree. I'll have to try this thank you.
Yes read u can use lemon flowers or leaves also for drinks or baking for that lemon zest flavor. Lemons and limes. Very interesting.
Thank you!
Thanks, Herbal Academy, for creating & sharing this 💚
I made this and it really worked for me and my family. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the recipe my Appalachian grandma used to make something similar without the peppers called Jog in a jug. God bless!
Oh I remember jogging in a jug!
Oh yeah! My grandpa used to drink that..!
A GREAT video. Awesome pace and clear instructions. Thank you💛🙏🏾
I like it without honey. Most winter mornings, I drink a mug of hot water with a shot of fire cider and two lemon juice ice cubes (from my own lemon tree.) I also use it to dress my daily power green salad, grown in my former dining room.
That sounds amazing!
...." my former dining room" What is it now? An indoor garden? Interesting.
I converted my sunroom into my art studio , small rainforest , a couple of small birds. My dining room became my office , so I have the 2nd bedroom for other purposes
Thank you so much for sharing this and God bless you.
I’m in bed watching this , I’m unwell with covid 😞 I am definitely doing a fire cider for next years cold and flu season!! I have however been having peppermint tea with fresh ginger, lemon and honey and having daily chopped garlic raw! Also lots of cinnamon in porridge oats which has been very soothing. Also I’m doing steam inhalations of eucalyptus, tea tree and thyme twice a day. All this is definitely helping to fight this horrible virus .
Have you made your fire cider yet for this season?
I love this. I am gonna make a vbatch to give to my loved ones this Thanksgiving.
Thank you, my daughter gave me this link. It looks good and very good for you 🌟
Beautiful, thank you!💚
Thank you for the video, I will make this recipe. :)
Great video! Super easy 😊thank you
I can't wait to make some myself.
Great video. I love fire cider. Best thing ever.
Thanks for the beautiful fire cider! I used with my organic apple cider and honey from my beehives! Thanks again!!
you deserve a cookie
@@benbauder3314 thanks Ben. You are right. Plus we love cookie!
I make this every time and is very healthy.
Very good video. I just use my food processor with the blade to process my veggies.
Oh I love this
Thank you!
Thanks for the screen-shot-able display of the ingredients this year I will have to buy the ingredients. The pic will be a great help :-)
Cold Season Cocktail 🥃
1/2 ounce fire cider

organic orange for peel
In a mixing container, add 4 large ice cubes and liquid ingredients. Stir for 1 minute or so.

Thank you for this video ,,, i never heard of it before ,, i am going to have to try this :)
This is how we make dipping sauces where im from, so i always have a bottle on hand LOL
But we use coconut nectar vinegar, ginger, birds eye chillies, garlic, black pepper and onions.
That's really awesome!! Where are you from if you don't mind me asking,I'm from East Tennessee like the Great Smoky Mountains, I just was wondering about how different it varies from place to place is all!!
@@jeremiahslone9762 i believe she is from the Visayas region in the Philippines. This type of dipping sauce is called pinakurat
Great stuff !!
THANKS
beloved thank u for sharing. just beat and add the garlic no need to peel
Great video!!
Good stuff❤️
I just made a batch of Fire Cider, which was based on the UA-camr 'The Modern Witchdoctor' 's video. However, I couldn't obtain horseradish root, so I used ginger, garlic, onions, lemons, thyme, rosemary, oregano, tumeric powder, and cayenne powder. It's definitely got a unique taste, but it isn't the worst tasting potion that I have had. I used two quart Ball canning jars to make it in.
Nice choices of ingredients. I would just suggest adding black pepper to help absorb the turmeric 🙂. I made my first Fire Cider today and I am excited to try it in 3 weeks haha.
I made a jug. I eat some everyday. It's a real boost.
Ok here goes. I got it all ready. I will let it sit for 6 weeks. Turn once a day. My new cough syrup ( not that I used cough syrup that often if ever . I believe I have a strong immune system yet this will be a new addition to my life style)
Just tried my Fire Cider after making it for the first time! Doesn’t taste bad to me as I can see myself doing a shot glass every morning!!!
Teaspoon works great for peeling ginger.
Excellent
It's a little early for elderberry in my neck of the woods but I had some cranberries, so I tossed those in. I'm super excited to see how it turns out. So, do y'all take this all year round or just in the winter?
You can always use those disposable gloves so your hands don’t get peppers and turmeric stain 🥰🤟🏼 awesome video and recipe ❤thank you so much ❤️🩹🫶👍🏻
I'm not sure that I've ever seen turmeric root. Going to give this a shot this season.
I have made it with ground turmeric powder and it is fine and much easier to use, but it stains, too.
You can peal all the garlic cloves by placing them in a small steel mixing bowl and cover it with a matching bowl. Then very vigorously shake the two bowls with the garlic inside. It makes a racket but after a minute, all the cloves (most) are peeled.
Old chef's trick. It takes forever to peel and smash each clove. You can put the cloves in a food processor for three seconds.
A mason jar with the lid works also 😁
I would also add elderberry or elderflower, another ancient immune booster...
Yes! There are so many great ingredients to try. A fun spin is using cranberries and cardamom, take a peek: theherbalacademy.com/a-must-try-fire-cider-recipe/
I roll the garlic cloves tightly a vigorously 1 at a time between the palms of my hands until they shed their outer shells --easy! I bet you could get about three batches out of the same stock?
Black pepper balls etc
Large horseradish
5 big turmeric root
Red onion
Amazing recipe! I made it for the second time today, I got through my first batch so fast 😅
What was your opinion on the tase I am worried I won't be able to get it down
@@mollyb7852 it tastes amazing with the honey tbh. I put a couple tbsps in a glass and sip it very slowly! If you are afraid I suggest squeezing the juice of an orange and mix the cider with it, and then go from there ☺️
@@ContoseFadas. thank you so much 🙏
@@mollyb7852 you can put it in a juice from the store
I put 1 tablespoon in a glass and add my homemade vegetable juice..delicious!,
My favorite herbalist says grind everything to a pulp before putting it in the vinegar or whatever you are putting it in.
Fiz com vinagre de kombucha,coloquei laranja,trançagem,ora-pro-nobis;pimenta rosa...😍
And oil needs to be used with us as well to get all the properties out of turmeric.
How long does this last?
I like to save the solids for veggie broth - add to carrots,celery....maybe even for Bone Broth ( never f=tried BUT
Interesting
This is on my bucket list. I always on dam media and dam it I gotta start bring a do person well my old nurse friend told me about this for my acid reflex and during COVID and working in a hospital we were starting to do this it’s awes. I love it my other nurse friend put s it on her salad s.
You can use any vinegar, this is good to use for salad.
iv'e tried looking thru most of the comment, but i didn't see. is it best taken in the morning or before bed? What time frame works be for you?
To remove the papery husks from Garlic… Put Garlic Cloves in a large jar, put the lid on and vigorously shake the jar for about a minute. Seriously shake it hard making those garlic cloves bounce and bang around in there.. then shake some more… after a while all the papery husk will separate from the meaty garlic cloves and you can mince them or slice them with ease.
So shake for 3 minutes, or just cut the bottom bit and peel it off in 15 seconds..... mmmmhhh
@@ShammyBigBoy - Try it once amigo. You’ll never go back to peeling.
I made this and it was great! One question is how much elderberries and other add ins ?
You can download the complete recipe in our Cold & Flu Ebook (it's free!): theherbalacademy.com/get-cold-flu-ebook/
I'm going to have to try and find the brand name of these little peelers/shredders I have. Little plastic "U" shapen handles with razor sharp blades of stainless steel, with different teeth/blade shapes. You pull them across carrots, for instance, or potatoes, or whatever, and ZING! I bet they'd work beautifully on that horseradish.
How about a blender ?
How long does it last?
Im using a half gallon Mason jar with the lid that has a clasp to open and close it. Will this be ok?
How long can it be stored safely?
May I suggest chopping the lemons on a plate or saucer, that way one doesn't waste half the lemon juice seeping into the wood of the chopping board.
I use lime, with salt, to clean my cutting board.
@@tefinnegan5239 I think the idea was not so much a cleaning issue but rather capturing all that juice to put into the cider itself ^^
Would it make a huge difference to ferment it as a wine instead of a vinegar?
I made up some last night using a blender(like a smoothie), hoping it would break the particle size down smaller to have it ready sooner. Starting to think maybe that was a bad idea?
I wonder if I could use the brine from my pickled onions for my base liquid.
How long does it keep for in the jar in the fridge vs a cupboard? Can you put it through the canning process to make it last longer? Or does it keep naturally because of the apple cider vinager?
It keeps naturally, up To a year. If you use dried herbs, it’s shelf stable.
i just put all the spices and herbs un peeled into a horizontal low rpm juicer....
Great thank you. I subscribed. Am very much wanting to put herbql medicine. **You said use raw ACV. Do you mean with thr "mother"?
I peel garlic by putting the cloves in one metal mixing bowl, covering with another, and then shaking for about 30 seconds. Cloves are completely peeled.
Sorcery
@@scottg62g Well, if there's anything witchy in my maternal bloodlines, it has to be kitchen or hearth witch, because we are all damned good cooks.
So it’s safe to store outside the fridge?
Hi.I don't have raw ACV. It's ok if i bay from super market? thanks
How long does it last
Can I use frozen turmeric ? Thanks

How long does this last in the refrigerator? Great recipe.
Great question! The Herbal Academy’s fire cider recipe uses fresh herbs, so we recommend refrigerating the final preparation and using it within 6 months. If you are using dried herbs, your fire cider can be stored in a cool, dark pantry for up to 1 year. However, if you have the space, refrigeration will keep it fresher for longer.
can i use manuka honey?
Best to discern between "antibacterial" and "bacteria static"...
Can you add moringa leaves?
Such a great video. I will make some and use it in my salads. I do have two questions. Can I use oregano instead of thyme? I have some beautiful rubbed mountain grown oregano from Greece. Also, how long will the jar of fire cider last in the fridge or the counter?
You can actually any herbs and spices you want. I have let my fire cider sit on the counter 2 months before straining. Once it's strained I'm not sure it ever goes bad. Don't quote me on that though. I know someone who had strained fire cider on her counter about a year.
Also, once you strain your veggies you can dehydrate them and grind them (I use my Vitamix) to make a yummy seasoning 😊😉😋
@@cathypeterson5106 Great idea, Cathy!
@@cathypeterson5106 Or compost but I like your idea a bunch!
What are the benefits of fire cider other than for cold and flu season? I'm wondering if it will help with things like gum infection, UTI, etc?
Where the heck do you find horseradish root?! I can't find it anywhere 🤦♀️
Can you use dried ingredients?
I added honey during the beginning of is that okay??
How much peper do you add
I'm unable to find horseradish. Can prepared horseradish be used instead?
Could you use Tumeric powder? Ginger powder? Lemon juice? 🙏☺️❤️
To be fair, I just set the cloves on my board, put the flat of my knife on top and make like I’m trying to smack the top of a jar before opening it. Not like I’m trying to break the jar, but not like I would smack my knee when telling a dad joke either. In the end, it mashes the clove and the paper falls off. No big deal, and no reason to chop the clove after either.
My problem is finding Tumeric and horse radish. It’s not something they have in the store in my little town.
Kind of seems pointless to peel when you're planning to strain
I can't find any tumeric root to purchase locally, is it possible to use ground tumeric instead? If so, how much? Thanks!
