  • Hi, our street is getting new high voltage power lines. This makes it required to shut down grid electricity for four days. How will our holiday resort manage to still keep business during that time. Please join me to take a look...

That Deye should provide a grid for your grid tied up to 80% of the Deye output. I love AC coupling works great

Good idea. I just didn't wire up that inverter to allow such a setup. I did it more like a classic backup with essential load panel. I can imagine such a setup in a house where you are feeding in right at the service entrance as one needs to isolate the grid connection in such a scenario where you are creating a self-sustaining grid bubble.

Anschaulicher Bericht.

Usually here in the States, at least where I live in Florida, the power company will only cut the power if absolutely necessary. That means even while replacing poles and/or wires, the grid is still online.
A few years ago they replaced all the wires with higher gauge to handle the loads better and we never lost power. Same when they came through and replaced a lot of the poles (which, I think the poles were done first as some where not good enough to handle the higher weights or the heights needed).
Interesting that they shut you guys down completely while they work on the lines there. I suppose it mostly depends on the equipment available and the safety restrictions/regulations

In my country they supply people with generator trucks. But that is done only for long term outages. Quite often in my rural area they announce shutdowns for a repair, maintenance with outage of an hour. Then its rather convenient to have still power for the water pump etc.

@@geraldzincke2218 Yeah, usually what happens here is that the only reason they shut down the grid is if they have to replace the transformers. For instance if changing the mains from 14kV to 28kV, they gotta change the transformers for the last legs for the homes. But even then they usually have 2 or more running in parallel and do a quick change over.
Grid outage due to maintenance is actually pretty rare as far as I know in my area.

Thanks for the video Roland. Is possible (at least technically) for you to be fully off grid? I saying technically because it might not make economic sense to do so.

No. To take the whole resort off-grid would require around 30kW in inverter power and probably around 200kWh in battery capacity. From a business perspective that would be unsustainable. But keeping the lights on when the rest gets dark is still a great advantage.
My main battery was out of service these days as that system is AC-coupled and only works when the grid is there. That system is reducing our power bill primarily. It all makes sense.

Roland, Is it normal and expected for the internal power supply capacitors to need replacing (such as your red inverter every 4 years approx)? Is the usual sign always going to be slight fluctuating Voltage output?

    • @RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore
      @RolandW_DIYEnergyandMore  5 місяців тому

Matthew, yes. For a device which is running 24/7 for many years, failing electrolytic capacitors are to be expected. I have replaced the caps yesterday. Took out 3 of them from the internal power supply area. Two of them where bulged already and lost almost all of their capacitance.
The last few days the inverter had already started to output only very unstable 200V. The problem is, if you do not proactively try to repair such a condition, the caps will then one day blow out and maybe shorten. That would then cause a much bigger damage and it might be unrepairable then.
Now the inverter is working again perfectly and it should run again for many years to come. The rest of the inverter looked like new.
