    The hunt for the perfect EDC this or that is always a struggle for me. Fortunately, I've been using what I think is a near perfect EDC knife / tool for years now - the Leatherman Skeletool. You've probably seen it in my videos, but here is a dedicated video just for it.
    This Leatherman Skeletool review is just some rambling thoughts on the tool, how it fits into my use cases, the things I like about it, and the reasons I think it should fit the bill for most people. I've tried other knifes, folders, multitools, etc and always find myself coming back to the Skeletool.

    Difference between standard and cx
    1. 154cm blade instead of 420hc
    2. Dlc coating
    3. Carbon fiber scales
    4. around 20$ price difference

    • @cudan2941
      @cudan2941 3 роки тому +1

      Definitely worth the $20 for the better steel

      Unfortunately the price difference in New Zealand is drastically different. 189 NZD vs 249 NZD. I opted for the standard Skeletool as the improvements didn't warrant the difference in price.

    Been carrying a skeletool for quite awhile now. It's an awesome edc tool. I use it constantly. Another great video.

    I agree. Many years of Benchmade and Spyderco carry... I now carry the Topo Skeletool as my only knife with added utility. I actually prefer the serrated blade since I've never been able to carry a non serrated blade for more than a day. I cut rope, tape, and anything from tires to sheetrock with my knife...just can't live without a serrated blade.
    I have gifted the Coyote Skeletool- I had it personalized by Leatherman to our son. I have the stainless version myself too, but the viability in my black dress slacks at work was a no go for with the silver...so I found the topo version which is all black and blends in.
    I've always carried a wave in my glovebox, another in my Harley, and the PS4 on my keychain.
    I carry a gun 24/7 and have since 2008, so I know I'll never use a knife as a fighting tool... even when I was in the Army Infantry... always preferred a gun of some kind over a knife.
    The Skeletool is about perfect for EDC - not much more tools I've ever really desired EDC... and a Wave or a toolbox is close enough most of the time.
    Bumped to help bring back to YT rotation for everyone.

    Just a heads up if you didn't know, but the Leatherman Wave has a great pocketclip that you can slap on easily. Works great and is made by leatherman!

    Well I am sold. I tried the leather an rev for awhile but frankly it is not built well at all and rattles and opens randomly. I bought it for the pocket clip feature and that's about it. I have a Rebar that I carry on my belt sometimes but when I'm not on the job sites and have to go into zoning and city meetings its looks out of place being carried on a belt. Great review!

    Nice review. I have had a Leatherman Charge TTi for a long time, which is a great tool, but usually stays in the car due to size and weight. Just picked up the new RX version of the Skeletool. Same as the CX, except it is orange, it has a fully serrated blade in 154cm, and comes with a bit that has a carbide glass breaker. It has the essential tools that I use most and is nice and light. Works as a great EDC companion to my plain edged folding knife.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  8 років тому

      I reached out to leatherman years ago asking if they had a carbide glass breaker bit, and if not that they should make one - no response, doubt the even read it. But I didn't even know that it existed, good to know! Doesn't look like you can purchase it separately though... so maybe an RX is in my future...

    • @26point2madness
      @26point2madness 8 років тому

      You may have given them the idea for the glass breaker. They should send you royalties.

    That Leatherman is real nice. My EDC is the Schrade ST1NB tough tool. Very affordable, sturdy and the thin profile is perfect for basically any pocket, pouch, bag etc. After a full year of having one I ordered 2 more for my work bag and truck.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  8 років тому +1

      That looks like a great little tool, and awesome price on it, too. I don't think I'd like the layout of it quite as much as the Skeletool, and I wish it had a pocket clip - but overall, looks like a nice, versatile tool. Plus, it's black, so that makes it better already.

    • @BroMorris0341
      @BroMorris0341 8 років тому

      Yeah, I'm the oddball that never really uses a clip lol. I'm a very minimalist EDC guy.
      If you ever have a 20 burning a hole in you pocket, you might want to pick one up for review. If nothing else, I think a guy like yourself would love to keep something like that in your BOB, or truck after a solid week of having it on deck.

    Great video as usual, Mike! Still waiting on a holster for the Beretta 92 FS from you. I absolutely LOVE my signed holster for my S&W Shield, and have been wanting you to make one for my Beretta. Is the one you make for the SiG P320 for the compact slide? I have a P320 Carry and need a good concealed holster for the winter months.

    Never trusted you that this would be a good replacement for regular EDC knife.... I found a green one for $30 the other day. I hate the color but couldn't beat half off price. I now rarely go without it. I love it! Buying the cx now that I've tested it out for a while in my EDC.

    I have the leatherman Crater part# c33t. It has a knife bottle opener Phillips and standard screwdriver. It does not have the pliers I've had this knife for 6 plus years it's a great night perfect EDC should check it out. I tried the Skeletool was not a fan of it was a little too heavy and my pocket.

    • @TukaSlave
      @TukaSlave 6 років тому

      Me too. But, here's the thing, I am kind of addicted to buying stuff and trying it out just to see if I like it. I have a Wave+, Wingman and Skeletool in addition to my Crater, and many, many Swiss army knives as well. So I am not short of choice. But the Skeletool is usually my go-to thing when I leave the house, just because it can do so much with so little. Plus the bit kit makes it a no brainer.

    25k plus congrats! Well deserved accomplishment. I've got the Wave in my edc and love, I've thought about adding a Skelatool or their OHT Multi Tool but there's always something else to buy, like the gun vault you recommended (thanks again) or whatever. I guess even though the Wave isn't the coolest one it meets my needs and I use it everyday. Plus, being a low level knife guy I like to carry a flipper too. I love the bit kits too and have them in the bag, truck, and even at the office. Hope the pups are doing well and growing like crazy. Looking forward to the video from Sage or at least some Instagram rid bits. Have a great time, I'm sure you'll share something from it we can all learn from.

    For anyone who doesn't need another straight blade, the RX version has a 154CM serrated blade instead. That's what I'm getting. The only downside is it only comes in that "emergency orange" color.

    I definitely need a good multi tool, I have a couple cheap ones from when I was younger. Now I really like my higher end automatics...I just bought my second one, which is a Piranha Virus, my first was a benchmade AFO II. So the piranha set me back $150 but I absolutely love it. I was looking for something lighter that was still functional but still cool to carry, because I wear gym shorts a lot and the benchmade was a little heavy for some of my shorts. The virus is also very slim and much nicer when wearing khaki shorts, the benchmade is just bulky, which is how I normally like my knife to be, but not all the time. Autos can be expensive tho so only one every couple years or so for me lol. Nice video and review!

    I carry mine at work, I’m a tradesman, keep the robertson bit in the handle, flat/phillips combo in the driver, so it’s handy having just the three common heads in a light weight package with a pocket clip, combo blade I like only for that reason at work, lot of practical tools on a reasonably light pocket knife, at work it’s a real gem
    It’s good, in a specific setting, but I guess they all are, nice vid

    I wish I could understand what need people have for say, pliers, for example. I mean, I have a basic EDC, which includes a spearpoint knife from 5.11 and a flashlight, of the ATAC series, also from 5.11... and it serves most of my purpose. So my question is, in what situation would someone need all these little tools stuffed in such a multitool?

    • @LastLineOfDefense

      If you're a guy that regularly fixes things, builds things, tinkers, etc - you'll use pliers/screwdrivers all the time.

      Well, of course! I just didn't think the average person that has an EDC does...

      Yeah, tough to say. Most of the 'average' people I know regularly use some of those common tools, though I'm sure a big percentage of people rarely need them. So yeah, obviously if you find yourself never needing a screwdriver, bottle opener, or pliers - then a standard knife should do just fine! :)

      Aaand even my knife, to be honest, is rarely used; in fact, it's used more as a prying tool, than to actually cut something. I'm still looking for that person that EDCs an ASP baton, you know, the P series, the small ones. :))

      Sure they're out there, but unlike a knife, pliers, screwdriver that I use literally every single day - I'd have a hard time finding a daily use for a baton. Granted, I have never used my gun once, and I carry it every day.

    The only drawback is it has no scissors

      I just carry a Victorinox with scissors to complement the Skeletool. Either a full size Climber model or a small Manager. You get extra tools that way too, and still lighter weight than larger Leatherman.

    I dropped mine and the Bit driver Button broke! idk man. Not worth the $70 in my opinion.

      That's wild, I've used and abused mine so much over the past few years, with no issues. Same story with a handful of my friends - it's our go-to. I think they have a pretty good warranty though, might have been a fluke?

      Last Line Of Defense I purchased it through REI so they took care of my Return maybe I was just lucky enough to drop it on its weak point, but I'm still looking for a good EDC. Just for Shits and giggles try testing it and dropping it on the concrete while the driver is open.

      Last Line Of Defense Not trying to be annoying but If you pay good $ for a quality product you expect it to work, and being that it's an All purpose tool maybe Be able to take a beating.

      Yeah, I've dropped it quite a few times on concrete, sometimes even with the blade open with no issues *yet, haha.
