I think what the homeowner said regarding energy awareness is key. Does not matter if you have the solar roof or not, knowing how much electricity you use is crucial.
Installing a Sense is an easy way to do this.
Knowing what and how much energy a device uses is useless unless you produce the energy yourself or have different prices at different times as you can't say you'll save energy by not cooking in the evening but in the middle of the day. You may save money but not energy from the grid.
@@alexandruilea915 It's not about when to do things, more if you are using an electrical appliance or not...
That's just a form of range anxiety, and is not crucial.
I'm a huge fan of this setup and technology, but how is it crucial to monitor your energy usage? I'm sure there are some people who waste a lot of electricity and could improve, but generally speaking there's not a whole lot you can adjust. If you have a smart thermostat and efficient appliances, then there's not much else to do. I've watched my energy consumption and it's kind of a non-actionable metric other than just switching appliances. For example, I need to use my laundry machine and dishwasher, and I need to keep the lights on when I'm working on something. I don't see how you can really make any noticeable impact on these essential things.
I've had an unprecedented (for me) three electricity blackouts so far this month. My indoor lights flicker for about half a second before the Powerwalls kick in, and it's as if nothing happened. In most cases, I only know about the power outages because I can see a list of them, and their durations, in the Tesla app.
Impressive 👏
these solar roofs look amazing
Cost is AMAZING too .. not in a good way.
@@KrustyKlown If you take the cost for an entire roof and then a photovoltaic system together, its not bad. You also use the space on your roof more efficiently.
@@rexcgems an entire higher end* roof but yes. and it's more durable and aesthetically pleasing!
I really hope to have Tesla Solar Roof on my next home. It has been in my 'plans' ever since I first saw it!
I hope you can deliver to Europe soon. I need a new roof and has been signed up for a Tesla solar roof with power wall for two years, still waiting.
Putting the solar costs into the mortgage is a big help.
It costs like $80k for Solar Roof.
Roi -33%
I really hope tesla leans into this more. I know they've been having manufacturing delays for a while with it, but it's such a valuable product!
Love the idea of solar power for our home! 👍
Solar should power our entire society, because solar powers the planet itself.
Life evolved and expanded on this planet using solar power.
It is beyond stupid to use all sort of fuels, when the sun gives free energy.
I’m a huge fan! I hope this makes it across every state with massive success
Every single house in the world should have this.
Never even thought about the new homes market Tesla can build relationships with new home builders and install the roof from day one that amazing
Hell yeah all building should have solar
Yep!
True
Holy moly. Tesla Roof, Power Packs at home. EV Cars, Trucks, and Semi's. Starlink for home internet. Your Space travels from SpaceX.
Even your Social Media with X (Since, X will be upgraded soon with more features like online payment) Elon, helped develop Paypal before too. They also have Robots in place to probably aid us at home or work. Damn, Elon is really taking over the world at this point. I believe he also has plans for a mobile phone. That hasn't been seen yet, but I only have good faiths for this man. He is doing a great job for mankind
Spoiler, you likely won't need a phone if you have Neuralink. . . . 🤓
Elon talked about a Tesla Phone called "Pi" but he is known for not keeping his words like for example he also talked about a Tesla Model 2
@@edistefi3925 No, he has never mentioned it, Tesla has never mentioned it, the "Pi" phone is a fake product made up by UA-cam clickbait channels.
@@johnp.weiksnar6861 Since Neuralink needs to be small and have low power consumption, the bulk of it's compute, transceivers and batteries will be off loaded to your belt(,purse or pocket).
@@edistefi3925He didn't say when, so "liar" isn't true!
I said I was going to make a coffee table, even tho I haven't yet, I still want to,
it doesn't make Me a liar either though.
Makes sense for new construction.
Or if you need a new roof anyway
if tesla wasn't awful to work with on solar roofs, yeah
I got the powerwall two weeks ago and yes, power awerness is the most important benefit that came with it. Even in the middle of winter, learning to use my energy, I’m able to get to 100% self-powering.
Installed a 12kw solar panel system on our primary home in AZ back in 2016 (from Solar City which became Tesla). It paid for itself in Q4 of 2022 (a year ago) still have 23 years of a full warranty on the solar panel system. Figure that during those next 23 years it should save us about $70k in electricity. Powers a 4k sq ft home where it can get to 115 degrees out in summer but keep it at 72 degrees indoors year-round. Also now powers a Tesla Model Y LR (74kw battery for 330 miles of range, 7-seater). Planning to add another 12kw system on guest wing next year with batteries (possibly for a VPP) mainly for an eventual cybertruck and for some backyard development.
Do you have shingles? How much to remove all panels and reroof?
@@USNEM They are solar panels (not the singles). The house was built in 2006 but a freak 1 in 1000 year storm hit in 2015 (huge hail stones) and destroyed all the roofs in our neighborhood. Insurance covered re-roofing our house after the storm so the roof is still fairly new (from 2015). Tesla charges $400 to remove the 48 solar panels and put them on a new home if we want them moved to another property we own but for now happy to have them on the main home. The roof is a flat roof (elastomer) with parapets so neighbors can't see the panels and roof is pretty large as it also encompasses a 4 car garage so roof space is about 5000 sq feet and can accommodate more panels easily.
Wise move going solar.
Thanks for the info.
Virtual Power Plants are a great idea!
I love how the first shot of the homes show THEM ALL in shadow LMFAO
Yet another reason why I can easily state that Tesla is the new wave of success for the future of the world~
Wow, these roofs are looking good!
Yes! I was beginning to think Tesla wasn't paying attention to Solar Roof. More!
Yup thought the same. I want solar so bad with a power wall, just doesn't work out financially right now
Generate your own energy 👏⚡☀🔋
Proud to be a Tesla Solar Roof installer in Oklahoma!
Love this, been saying for years this will one day become required to build a new home. AWESOME!
Here in the UK there are literally thousands of new houses being built every year, yet hardly ANY come with solar. There's massive ( by UK standards ) warehousing, again hardly ANY have solar roofs. In the next breath, we're being told hundreds of acres of land are being taken over by solar farms. How hard can it be for those in power to see the logic in putting solar on roof space and NOT take up farming land.
Coming up on our 2y anniversary with Solar Roof and 2PW. Love it.
this year 2024 we continue together. I love you elon my baby
❤❤❤❤❤
Wow tesla you are the best company in the world Also turning it to a greener world🎉🎉
Awesome work Tesla! 👏🏻
Tesla is my favourite company!
Solar power for the win. ⚡️⚡️⚡️
He said Photo Vatalic,(that's not a word.) pretty sure he meant Photovoltaic, lol. As an Electrician I feel like it should be corrected.
I am guessing he heard someone say the word and just tried to repeat what he heard, and never looked at the spelling lol
Great to see your advertisement at work.
This is so cool
Seems pretty cool. I hope that, since it’s new construction, they also include efficient designs from passive solar houses, geothermal heating/cooling, etc.
Earthships seem to be the most efficient homes I’ve learned about.
So beautiful. Tesla is changing the way we live.
Truly inspirational!
Energy awareness is key, I have solar and I am electrician. I can tell you what everything in the house draws and the associated cost per hour, which gives my a massive advantage, I have storage hot water that I have on a smart timer so I can maximise self consumption. I have not paid for electricity in over 3 years now and I don’t even have a battery.
WARM, HEALTHY, KIND HOLIDAYS !
HAPPY, COMPASSIONATE & SUCCESSFUL NEW YEAR MMXXIIII !

THANK YOU !🙂
Incredible work! Keep it up Tesla energy team!
W tesla as always!
The comment of the homeowner is gold
She’s absolutely right. Being aware of energy usage is the first step to want to reduce it. Go, Tesla!
Solar Roof looks so nice! 🔥
Let's Gooooooo Greak Work Team Lets Keep It Up.
I want solar-roof on my house in Norway.
Does Norway get enough solar radiation to justify the additional cost though?
😂
sounds neat and if any of the panels break or stop working you can just pull it off and pop in a new one
Let’s Go!
I called the 3rd party referred on the Tesla website. They recommended not using the solar roof, and go for solar panels. They also recommended “cheaper options” than powerwalls, which I found hilarious as Tesla referred me to them.
I really wanted solar tiles, so I decided to not proceed forward. I think something is broken in how they scale their business, at least in the Pacific Northwest.
Wow…would love to have this on my home 🙌🙌🙌
@tesla thank you ❤
This is a great promotional video, keep them coming 👏
Couldn’t wait anymore, in Canada we don’t have access to this yet so I installed a regular old solar system
This Solar Roofs are best.
This should be the new standard for the roofing and electrical trades.
I’ve been waiting for this!!
My house has the Tesla solar panels, really like the product! Not having an electric bill is awesome
So cool!!!
I just want the energy use display!
I'm a huge fan of your work and i analyse the stats of every tesla. I'm so happy the cybertruck came out but annoyed it won't come to the UK!
I love the solar power but that house is beautiful
Wooo!
Great work everyone on continuing to drive down the cost and increasing the benefits to our customers.
Wow what a good idea😊❤
When is this coming to Canada? Been waiting for updates on this for two years.
Awesome ❤
Incredible
I’d like an off grid house with this set up…
Just leaving this here for when the algorithm picks this one up.
In our US state, the TSLA solar division has 1-star reviews online for years now. A few years ago when we considered it, the TSLA price beat competitors, but there were just too many negative reviews online to merit considering it. Please, focus on making every single TSLA solar office worthy of 5-star reviews online. The product will then sell itself.
dear god pls bless with a home exactly like this
Its been 7 years since they announced this solar roof....still not available in the whole of US, let alone in my country.
I live near the factory. They're working three shifts, building more parking. . . . Patience, that's all I can say.
It's almost as if radical changes don't happen overnight!! Production is hard...
just get regular rooftop solar. the tesla roof looks better but in terms of maintenance and cost a regular solar installation is superior.
Depending on where you live, energy companies can force a max number of solar panels you can have depending on past usage calculations, which may not be sufficient. A “whole-roof-replacement” is treated differently than a “roof-addition” legally so they would have no say if you do the whole roof
@@ReiujiUtsuhoOkuu you're right, "your mileage may vary" depending on where you are, but when I ordered Tesla Solar Roof, the local utility mandated it have no more capacity than 110% of my monthly usage. That meant Tesla would spec dummy tiles on parts of the roof! The shingles would look almost identical, but generate no power. Time to take up pottery and put in a pool heater or two. . . . 😀
It's safe - before the first tornado!
Amazing
Very cool.
Less solar, more non-precious metal battery storage at the consumer level. Affordable. We have a storage problem not a solar problem.
Hopefully Tesla Solar Roof expands to Europe / Austria as well as upcoming Powerwall 3 (: can’t wait to install in 2024 waiting for so long!
Yes! ❤ 🔋
Elon never stops winning, greatest human of the century
🔥🔥🔥
The wife and I love our model3's and want a Tesla roof.
Very cool :D
LES GOO!! HYPE AF!! SUIIIIIIIIIII
Love the look of the solar roof, but did just Cody said each home is only 14 kwatt? It is kind of low for that much surface area.
awesome
I actually think that if your solar roof provides more than enough energy for your needs then you don’t need to be so energy-aware of how much everything is using. If I’m paying for the electricity then I don’t want to waste it but if it’s essentially free, I’m much more likely to leave lights on etc because it won’t cost any more.
All in the shade of trees.
Awesome
Great sir, but
What about people leaving in flats /Building..?
What is the level of self-sufficiency in winter?
I just got a quote for a solar roof in Greensboro N.C. for a 10kw system on 4200 sq feet. It was just over 300k. Almost the cost of my house. Then they tried to sell me on solar panels for 17k, and they told me they don't do roofs, which made me suspicious. A quote from a separate company for a roof was 19k. So 26k vs. 300k. I think Tesla needs to be more selective on who they're subcontracting out because I don't think they really want to install their product and giving a way higher cost than it should be.
Tesla a super Company
I hope that everyone gets to adopt the solar energy hey maybe if everyone has it we don't need the grid anymore
I agree that this is the future, but y’all have got to get pricing to match the median home value!! The video here shows homes priced well over that!
pretty cool
Governments should provide incentives to adopt these technologies.
not for Tesla their dollar per watt installation price is ridiculous. Does makes the house look good but these systems will never pay for themselves. I install solar for a living fyi. their batteries are also expensive. I can get other batteries at half the price that do more.
@@drunk_astronomy
Being an early adopter costs more, always has. And saying it'll "never" pay off is plain disingenuous. Additionally when choosing a solarpanel solution its not just about dollars per watt; it's like picking a laptop over a desktop, convenience matters. When picking a car, what factors do you consider? Estetics perhaps, or maybe even features smart features.
@@sponge9896 not trying to pick a fight or go on a rant, but I install solar for a living and yes, how much it cost is a very very very important factor. The only reason why I would even consider doing something similar to a Tesla roof is because of homeowner associations that restrict standard panels.
To be honest with you, I don’t believe solar belongs on rooftops. people don’t consider the idea that when after a bad hailstorm insurance companies will pay to take the system down and replace your roof but they will not compensate you for putting the system back up. Some people pay as high as $3,000 to $8000 for a simple 6000 W array the price depends on whether it’s a one or second-story roof install, etc.
Hell, dude, I could even tell you the type of wafers they’re using. they use Panasonic HIT cells (good choice), formally Sanyo products until Panasonic bought them out. I even own a old Sanyo panel with those exact wafers and it runs my little observatory at my brothers house. The reason why they use that type of wafer is because it’s a mono silicate wafer with a thin film coating, allowing it to produce a higher power curve at high temperatures, because when when you flush mount a solar panel and they don’t cool very well, because air cannot get under them. So I’m not knocking technology. There’s just better ways to do it.
FYI just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about most recent client got a 10,000 W system with a 12,000 W inverter in a 30kWh battery pack installed for $32,500. Trust me that’s very cheap. The other local bigwig company in the state of Michigan quoted her using Tesla equipment quoted her $80,000. probably the closest bid to mine was $65,000. She could not believe how little I charged the only reason why I can charge is little as I do, is I do everything by myself and I’m a bit of a pirate. RRR!!!
so that’s what I meant by my comment I don’t want Tesla gobbling up all of the incentives because they’ve tricked the world that they’re the only option when I or anyone for that matter can put up no joke four to five times more solar for the same dollar.
also, their systems under perform compared to traditional set ups. I’ve seen the data to prove it.
Sorry for the long explanation, but I don’t like misinformation floating around in the universe.
Yes all fantastic and brilliant! However we are waiting like desperate kids here in the Nordics!! Get it over here :D
here in europe we have lightning protection on our roofs, possible with this system?
i wish solar roof will be a more stream line product for existing homes.. when i was shopping for solar in the bay area, the solar roof wait was more than a year.. ended up going for solar panels and powerwalls instead.
Like most of the products Tesla makes, they take time but the wait is worth it. It’s hard for an innovative company to design, manufacture, vertically integrate, mass produce, and deliver products that no one else is willing to tackle.
Easiest when a large number can be done at once, which is why this video focuses on a development. Fewer unique permitting requirements etc. Doing individual homes all over the place was eating them alive in costs as in the US almost every jurisdiction has some local variations that had to be factored in... each costing time and money. If a state were to just own this totally and create the grand unified single solar code and all someone had to do was post a small bond that they were following it, an inspector came to confirm completion and power company was obligated to to allow the connect/disconnect config - you'd see volumes of solar to existing homes skyrocket.
You have to get a sales team to incorporate with new homebuilders at the design stage of development.
one of not so many things that are motivating me to actually pursue worthy job.
To be able to afford this
I wish it would be available in canada, specially the province of quebec 😊
It's like an apple ecosystem but based on energy. Very cool Tesla!
