- Kelly talks about her origin and love for Kenya as a country, she describes how her love for Kenya has actually grown past her Chinese origin. Kelly Ying Zhu is a 16 year old student at Rusinga School, Nairobi. She is currently in year 12 and also the deputy head prefect in her school. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Honestly all these people sending hate towards her should be ashamed. She's just a kid. Not a representative of the government of China
And who put here in that platform?
Exactly! She is innocent
We are putting the anger on the wrong things
Correct ❤🙏🌎😘
We love her. She's welcome in Kenya
Wow! Kenyan accent and braids, beautiful Chinese face. Amazing girl. What the world needs today.
She spoke from the heart, and made a great point. Culture is the sum total of one's experience, and as a Kenyan, I believe this lovely child does have a rightful claim to what is Kenyan in her. Indeed, those making negative remarks need to elevate the discussion and arguments to a more sophisticated level rather than bully this child. Her simple but wise speech does more to celebrate and bring positive attention to Kenyan culture than those choosing to be negative can ever accomplish with their unkind attitude!
Thank You Young Lady
I Feel like a Kenyan Toto as well
Happy Eastern 2021

It is so sad to read some of the comments herein. We are living in a global world. Here is the next generation of Kenyans. She is so proud to a Kenyan and importantly a Christian. She beautifully articulates humans are all one if we learn to see beyond the colors of our skins. Her life story clearly depicts that we are what the culture inculcates us. Kenyans are known to be decent human beings. Let not actions by others change this. Young lady you are the most beautiful Chinese lady I have ever seen and the proudest Kenyan of mixed cultures I have ever heard speak.
She is very proud of her heritage, God bless her . She is going places .
There's 1 billion Chinese in the world, their culture is everywhere.
Kenya china relationship is dated back in ming dynasty 600 years ago.... When Admiral Zheng voyage capsized in the coast of pate currently Lamu.... The survivors went to shanga village where they intermarried with the local women... If you go to Lamu... You will find the last bloodline of Admiral Zheng.... Kelly you ain't alone... But am touched by your words...
Kenya was and its still part of the Ancient Silk Road... and so the Chinese have been around for awhile...
Some forgotten history, it is a fact a lot of trade traffic sailed between the East African coast and China.
She has actually a Kenyan accent
What did you expect? She was born and raised there.
@@terseandtiny1746 You’d be surprised , some people are born and raised in Kenya and do not have an accent .
Exactly that's what I said
There is no accent for kenyans ....lol
@@putnellmateo1003 You are living in the dark in a box under a bed if you think Kenyans have no accent. I'm sure you are Kenyan so you can't hear your own HEAVY THICK KENYAN ACCENT. listen to Majimbo her accent is too thick you can taste it
She is a gem, she goes beyond language, race, culture, skin colour, geography and religion. She is miles ahead of the rest of hateful racists. She will also conquer hate.
Absolutely correct 😘🙏❤🙏❤
I am almost in tears of joy after listening to the brilliant speech of this sixteen-year-old Chinese-Kenyan girl. This little girl moved me to my core! I am against racism and against all the clichés fabricated by society to divide humans.
Let her carry on behaving the way she thinks and practising the faith she has in God. She's ready to produce a good impact for good, for brotherhood and for the peaceful coexistence that should reign between us, the so-called civilized animals, different from the irrational animals.

Obed Nyakundi but the real indigenous Chinese people are blacks, so are they claiming to be Chinese while they actually came from Mongolia

Interesting talk.
Would we ever see a "Kenyan by blood, Chinese by heart" TEDTalk?
@@ivyaquila9136 so now learning Chinese is a big deal?that what yuxi does like anybody else learning foreign language.
There are many Kenyans speak excellent Chinese too, I know some even perform traditional Chinese art much better than many Chinese. They can easily access to the state TV show, if lucky enough they can make easy money as well, ask any Chinese would it be easy for them to perform in the state TV in China?
Yep, Barack Obama's brother, Kenya born-bred, who lives in China now.
@@sulwenyanam375 has he given a TED Talk?

She has a bright future..God bless her.. I hope she starts her own UA-cam channel.
She is so Kenyan.. accent, mannerism etc.
Thanks for this Kelly. Delighted to see how much progress has been made and yet so much ignorance to be overcome. It takes 2 to tango ! Globally integration /interdependency is key to cohesion and mutual progress . Nil illegitimi carborundum

shes only a child ya'll wildin. adults are responsible for the racial injustices the children are just caught in the crossfire.
My God your the only person on the comment section who needs to get a thumb up.
Has your country ever been colonized? No? Before we get to episode 3, here's last week's recap.
In the 20th century, British WW2 veterans took land in Kenya and Zimbabwe. You see, whiteness is an automatic title deed to African land. The veterans are likely dead now, but their children and grand children say: "We're white Kenyans/Zimbabweans and we have as much right to the land as the Kipsigis/Ndebele."
This video is the opening scene to episode 3. The debt trap is set, and now a Chinese child sees this country as her home. Her hypothetical future Kenyan-born children would see it as their manifest destiny.
We're 'wildin' because we've been carjacked down this road before.
@Nappa A guy just jumped into the sea because his Asian boss withheld his salary for months.
We don't need to raise additional military infrastructure, we just need to hold our leaders to account.
We can keep colonizers at bay by simply refusing bad deals. Something bad leaders are allergic to. But not for long.
@Nappa On natural resources: I don't tell you what to do with the resources in your country, you don't tell me what to do with mine. We can choose to ignore them because they are on our land. Not your land.
We don't have to live by your standards, you are not our creator.
With that understanding, keep the aid and the trade. Don't pretend to be helping anyone but yourselves.
@Nappa The suicide story is to point out that an army that goes against those who no longer fear death, in their own country, had better be ready to clear everyone.
So lesson learned, courtesy of COVID. Docility just went out the door, but thanks for the sanctimonious lecture.
Awesome reasons for us to appreciate and respect each other's culture, I'm so proud of Kelly and every other person with the same kind of patriotism out there!
It's all great ...good job...let's all preach love and peaceful coexistence
Wise words from a young mind. I love it. We are the human race! We are all beautiful especially when we choose love over hate.
What a beautiful child. What lessons for our imagination of belonging. A tribute to both Kenya and her sense of being.
You are lucky indeed "being a person of two cultures"
Beautiful!
I hope when she speaks again she’ll talk about skin privilege. I hear some Kenyans are using skin lightener, and traditionally, all over the world, Asians practice this as well and avoid the sun. It matters of course, and doesn’t mean she doesn’t love her home to acknowledge it.
She’s a good speaker. I look forward to hearing more!
Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can
Hate cannot drive out hate only love can
heal the world, that's what she is trying to do and that's what we should focus our attention on
Asante sana
Wonderful talk. Love is the way to go.
Brilliant young lady !
This is a winner!
Wow!
Little girl I like that you know more of Kenyan ways with Chinese ways too. Then the truth of understanding is with you to tell the world who are worshiping the truth God/Lord.

I wasnt gonna believe she is Kenyan not until i heard exactly how she pronounces "Combination", then boom she said it...
much love my fellow kenyan youngkee
She’s Kenyan by nationality
People who disparages her should read the constitution of Kenya and see who is a Kenyan, your opinion doesn't matter here since constitutionally she is Kenyan whether you like it or not.
She is Kenyan
@@rehema2018 she is kenyan because the constitution of kenya recognizes her as a kenyan.
She has such a weird Kenyan accent with Chinese tendencies...mostly Kenyan though
Intresting
She's gotta have cool Chinese parents who are not uptight, open, and lets her braid her hair. My Chinese immigrant mom criticized everything and passed judgement esp when it was not asked. It was the only way she knows how to show love and protection and, while painful, it took years of division to slowly mend our relationship. Shout out to whoever did her braids and she wears them with joy.
Hmmmm very interesting

True there is NO boundaries. We are JUST humans who will ALL Die one day so SPREAD THE LOVE regardless of skin colors.
Yes we are increasingly living in a globalized world . Even back then humans have migrated to different parts of the world and still thrive . It’s nothing new . Humans should have less hate in their hearts
Congrats fellow Kenyan.

The Kenyan accent right there😍
She's a PERFECT example of what the Confucious institute want to produce, ladies and gentlemen the new face of Kenya and beyond, the poor girl doesn't see she's being used in a Chinese psyop
Typical western white afraid of China making a difference in Africa. If you care to listen, she grew up in Kenya attending kindergarten there. Confucius Institute is equivalent to British Council, and does not provide fund to support anyone living in Kenya.
@@Time4Peace
China is the same as Western countries. They all want to aquire assets in Africa for cheap and laden them with huge debts hard to pay back not caring about what it does to the local economy.
Since my last post I've discovered the institute is indeed used for psyops in Africa. All is not as it appears don't be nieve.
@@Zion-jw3gm Really? Seems to me China wants trade and Africa wants infrastructure. Africa is doing quite well and west is welcome to invest in Africa too if it is afraid that China will dominate.
@randy orton I am now talking about Confucius Institute. I went on a study tour to Beijing with fund from Confucius Institute. We decided where to go and what to learn. The point I am making here is Confucius Institute has nothing to do with this girl giving the Tedx talk. She grew up in Kenya. So she is saying that she has both cultures. Why is she wrong? Why is there so much hate about her? What has her talk got to do with whether the Chinese business people are nice? That's my point.
Is you China’s then why are you still living there
The world needs more people with bi-cultural and multi-cultural backgrounds. Are Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa leading the way to link up Africa with the world?
Well done! You could start your video channel to introduce Kenya culture to China and the world from a multi-cultural perspective.
