A series similar to this one and Vraks would be cool to see as well for the mechanicus, I imagine you can find something like that for them that would be roughly the same length.
I never thought I’d feel the most for the Mantis Warriors. Like they had a home. They had friends. They were loyal defenders of the people in their territory. They protected them in a manner the Emperor would have approved of. Their people trusted them. And then they were ripped from their home, it was denied to them, and their blood-thirsty rivals were allowed to go reap all sorts of havoc and atrocities on the innocent people the Mantis Warriors once protected...theirs is probably the most depressing fate of all the chapters. In the latest Space Marine Codex they’re mentioned though so they’re still alive. I DO hope they get an opportunity to maybe *ahem* miss a call for help from the fire hawks when they happen to be the only allies nearby. Space has a lot of radiation that messes with vox and ya know psykers don’t always work out either so I guess they just missed the desperate cries for aid as failbadon or something else with lots of spikes decided to chop a bunch of Fire Hawks to bits
According to a short story, cant remember which one, the Mantis Warriors did complete their crusade, and managed to regain their honor to the point where they were aloud to send members to the Deathwatch.

Thanks for the series arch. While i' ve checked out other channels ( i appreciate it as well) tended to paraphrase the army book your the only only one i've seen to give it much needed nuance. It's easy to forget that imperial army book is written from a loyalist point of view.
Most lore channel even non 40k one doesn't actually real all the actual original source, most just Wikipedia it. So they missed things alot. Whem their channel that actually read the source you can sort of get a feel for them, especially if they are excited by the subject because they add more stuff to it.
So, a space marine chapter decimates your world, then forces you to fight in the pits with other desperates, then makes you one of them... and expects your loyalty. Did I miss the Glandus Stokholmosyndromus somewhere in the list of spacemarine organs, or what exactly is keeping the neophytes from going on a rampage of vengeance as soon as they are given their first bolter?
@@CharlesUrban Ok, but, what exactly is being indoctrinated? I mean, even if ones memory is wiped, imagine a battlebrother vitnesing the whole selection process and final memory wipe of a neophite, and then thinking to himself "wait, is that why I don't remember how I was inducted? Did they do the same to my homeworld and family?". I mean, indoctrination to the point where this would not bother a person... What is left then? A simple loop of train-slepp-slaughter train-sleep-slaughter? That does sound like the Karkaradons or Minotaurs, but at this point, how are those spacemarines different from combat servitors?
so a death sentence for being loyal while the main instigators of the whole problem receive rewards everywhere. Am I the only one who thinks the empire needs a massive cleanup?
Gotta figure the firehawks are gonna be seeing a lot of Chaos raiders in the future, amazingly all wearing red armor. What a coincidence. Say one thing for chaos, we know how to hold a grudge.
Excellent work yet again Arch. The source material seems to have some pacing issues at the end since it goes from "we need to crack the heaviest fortification in the sector" to "the Sharks did WHAT?!" in a very short time. But that cannot be helped in a lore video. Huron himself seems like a very interesting character, and I hope he's not entirely cuckoo, because this is an excellent story for a recurring villain. And the Angstrom magos is the biggest Chad in the whole story.
From what i recall from one of the anthologys or omnibus’s there is a short story covering the trial of the mantis warriors where they were able to speak and testify during the trial but the mantis warriors instead chose to just remain silent and come what may.
What a bloody waste, at least the Star Phantoms are trying to make something useful from the mess, the Firehawks deserve whatever fate turned them into the Legion of the Damned.
Ah, I do love your narratives, Arch. I patiently look forward to the next lore video you do. Huh, I wonder if the Damocles Gulf Crusade has a lore book? It would be a love and ironic target to look into, I think.

Has there ever been a scenario where two chapters fight along side each other so long, suffered so heavy losses, synergized so well that at the end of the conflict they have emerged a cross breed of both chapters. If not, that might be a good idea
The Horus Heresy and the Second founding. A number of those "loyalist legion successor chapters" are actually loyalists from Traitor Legions who had defected, as well as some of the Ultramarines, Imperial Fists (i think) and one of the other Legions.
Tbh considering the Lamentors seemed to get more then 311 battle brothers before hive fleet Kraken, I could see that Mantis Warriors having merged with them
Hmm i somewhat see a way, that could allow the lamenters to survive the penitent crusade without going traitor, but it would require utilizing allies to take the attrition for them( perhaps the seek out imperial guards facing resistance), an aggressive replacement of limbs and wounds from battle field losses with cybernetics, utilization of mantis warrior like skirmishing doctrines, perhaps running their penitent crusade "together" with the remains of the Mantis warriors(the few who remain), then it would require internment of all dying lamenters into dreadnaughts. And the warp travel will properly keep them from reaching 100 years from the crusading from the imperium's perspective, so would not surprise me if the Lamenters would have done 100 years of penance before they fight the tyrranid. I could see the lamenters begin recruiting after they have crusaded for 100 years, but keep crusading until the imperium have had 100years as well.
I can't wait to listen to all of these back to back. I'm also very hopeful for ur next big series, whatever that's going to be about. I look forward to ur next lore video.

I realised something interesting recently. The chapter master of the lamenters, Malakim Pharos, who was thought killed during the badab wars, actually seems to have survived, which was a rumour. In the trial of gabriel seth which happens a while after badab “malakim of the lamenters” is one of the chapter masters in it, which i’m not sure if it’s just a writing mistake or not but is definitely hopeful for the lamenters
What sucks for both the Mantis Warriors and the Lamentors is that the space marine chapters who could have spoken on their behalf both left the conflict because of how poorly they had been treated by the more violent chapters Jandice Frayne had pulled in. The Fire Angels would have spoken on the Mantis Warrior's behalf and the Nova Marines would have spoken on the behalf of the Lamenters. My question is whether the lack of clemency extended to them has something to do with both chapters being known for producing a higher than average number of psychers. Maybe, the Inquisition wanted to introduce more warp resistant chapters into the area, but had to play around the will of the High Lords due to the idocyncracies of the 32nd founding...
Thank you Arch for going through this warzone for the fans. I hope you keep doing more of these war zones. Especially the Damocles gulf or crusade, that’s a weird one to figure out

In the Soul Drinkers series ( Ben Counter ), it is mentioned in detail what a "deletion" of a space marine chapter is like in the Imperial Records. I am not at all surprised that the Imperium of Man has so much missing information, considering how much damage the 'Deleations Unit' does in the Librarium Terra .
Ah, finally! After all this time, I now have a clear idea of why the Lamenters act the way they do at current date. No wonder they practically ignore the other chapters after they survived their Penitent Crusade. They must figure that they end up in another "War for Badab" situation if they got friendly with anyone again and decided that they can't get betrayed by their friends if they just don't have any. A shame since I would have loved to see them and the Mantis Warriors support each other during their respective crusades and form a deeper bond between them. Oh well.
I like to imagine that one of the five chapters that judged the Warders were the The Charnel Guard. Coming to make sure their old comrades got a fair trial.
So, I have listened to this series twice now. (Well, one and a half times, I listened to about the halfway point when it was coming out, then slacked off till now, restarted and I have just finished listening to it all the way through for the first time) A very interesting story, and as usual your presentation style is excellent. I will say though, that I think Vraks was better. While this story does have its own twists and turns, by and large this war keeps going one way. There is the initial successes, followed by a long slow continously more lopsided slide into defeat for the faction with fewer resources as the Loyalists just keep funneling more and more Marines into the conflict. This story also fails to really tug at the heartstrings in quite the same way that Vraks did despite the fact that more people are dying. Up to the end of Vraks, guardsmen are still dying in horrific droves, while, by the end of the Badab war the only real people left in the conflict who I don't want to see dead are the red scorpions and a tiny unit of salamanders. You get attached to the poor Kriegs guardsmen in a way that you just dont with the marines here, or even the civilian population. There is a certain sterility to everything going on here,. I think the authors should have avoided making the Astral Claws turn into assholes, it would have all been far more engaging if they had not relinquished the moral high ground by the end, or at least untill much closer to the ending than they did. Huron had the basis of a very solid case against the Admistratum, and being forced to flee in disgrace and become a renegade Astares would have been far more compelling if he had not turned into an insane asshole who puts out peoples eyes for looking him. He morphed from a highly sympathetic and competent character to a weird depraved asshole on very short notice. I dont know if it was portrayed that way in the books or not, but on your end I think it would have been wiser if you sprinkled the bit about the Astral Claws loosing it and painting their armor redder and redder around a little more. Anyway, goodspeed arch, it was a great listen, and I look forward to what comes next.
This has been great Arch. Great improvements upon Vraks. I look forward to both normal lore videos and the next big thing. Maybe you could cover Farsight for something different. I am also interested to Astral Claws into Red Corsairs

A short written overview at the end what was the price or punishment for every faction included would have been nice. Overall a really great series. The used picture were really good as well.
Shark boys and fire birds can get stuffed. Would have loved for those two to have been ground down to dust in this fight, oh well. Maybe in another war. Still, the Mechanicus got quite the win in the region so that is good.

The space shark sitting on top of Whirlwind is teh most adorable thing in all of 40k
Fire Hawks apparently disappeared into the Warp, presumably to spend the rest of eternity have their orifices explored by fifth-dimensional tentacles.
would be more ironic if they happen to respond to a distress call to find out it was from the firehawks
@@wytfish4855 actually I like this even better. They respond, it’s Fire Hawks. And they just nope out and leave the Hawks to die lol.
According to a short story, cant remember which one, the Mantis Warriors did complete their crusade, and managed to regain their honor to the point where they were aloud to send members to the Deathwatch.
@@mdsx01
Huh. In the latest edition of the SM codex I think it mentions them still being on a penitent crusade.
Most will see this and think "That's unfair, they punished the whole sector with the awful fates. the imperials are being needlessly cruel" to others *mostly lore nerds like myself* will think "Wow, Badab and those chapters got off better then one would of expected."
@@PodreyJenkin138 That is a rare pragmatic choice by the imperium of man. most of the time they perfer to wipe the board clean and start fresh. but i guess with the lack of xeno or chaos taint as a major factor in this war, it wasn't needed. that why Badab got off easy.
Society: "Grown men don't cry. they don't have feelings."
Grown Men: *Reading the history of the Lamenters and weeping profusely*
they are my favorite chapter by far.. I'm so glad they emerged from their penitent crusade victorious and redeemed to suffer evermore from their glorious curse that made them the unbreakable badasses they are!!
I didn't think it was possible to hate the Inquisition more than I already did. I stand corrected.
You seem to stand up to your name Sir
Same. this whole situation has been an escalating pile of bullcrap.
In the words of Gabriel Angelos: To further fear the inquisition is redundant, to hate them, Heretical...
Even the Inquisition hates other Inquisitors.
Michael Behnke See this is why people go to chaos though.
The conflict has ended but long war is far from over. Now, tell me of the Corsairs and Blackheart, magos Arch.
During 5th edition, GW said "Legions suck, Renegade Chapters are the hotness now".

Lamenter standing trial:
Conclave about to pass judgment:
*piece of ferrocrete falls from ceiling, killing Lamenter
Conclave: (look at each other) ... yea, we'll just let them continue living as normal.
Have you ever checked out Baldermort?
So, a space marine chapter decimates your world, then forces you to fight in the pits with other desperates, then makes you one of them... and expects your loyalty. Did I miss the Glandus Stokholmosyndromus somewhere in the list of spacemarine organs, or what exactly is keeping the neophytes from going on a rampage of vengeance as soon as they are given their first bolter?
Hypno-indoctrination, I think. That's probably the only thing between most Carcharadons and outright Khorne worship.
You were strong,
Others were weak.
Are you so weak you can't accept the gift of becoming an Astarties?
@@CharlesUrban Also, that would mean Hypno-indoctrination is very different chapter to chapter? No way descendants of Volcan have it the same.
MonkeyShaman That’s a really good point.
so a death sentence for being loyal while the main instigators of the whole problem receive rewards everywhere. Am I the only one who thinks the empire needs a massive cleanup?
You and Guilliman both.
Gotta figure the firehawks are gonna be seeing a lot of Chaos raiders in the future, amazingly all wearing red armor.
What a coincidence. Say one thing for chaos, we know how to hold a grudge.
Drain the swamp.

I thought last year proven that
@@Marinealver this is not about being fair or not but about putting a bolter round to the fucking inquisitor's head and the firehawks for good measure
Youth: Will you show us mercy my Lord?
Space Sharks: *We don’t do that here.*
Arch, will there be a episode about transition of the Astral Claws into the Red Corsairs?
While the war for Badab Ended, we still need at least the aftermath episode.
You just had it.
Double Dose of lore? Yes, please!
Great series, Arch!
A surprise to be sure. But a welcome one.
AdMech: "It's free labor!"
Star Phantoms: "Hippity hoppity, this zone is our property!"
From what i recall from one of the anthologys or omnibus’s there is a short story covering the trial of the mantis warriors where they were able to speak and testify during the trial but the mantis warriors instead chose to just remain silent and come what may.
I imagined something like 'Whatever you sentence us to, we accept. There is only one thing we have to say. FUCK. THE. FIRE. HAWKS.
First Vrakks now Badab. Its been a hell of a ride. Thanks for your hard work!
Don't forget, the wars for Armageddon was the first major war series Arch did.
What a bloody waste, at least the Star Phantoms are trying to make something useful from the mess, the Firehawks deserve whatever fate turned them into the Legion of the Damned.
I love the Carcharadon just chilling on the tank in the thumbnail.
Ah, I do love your narratives, Arch. I patiently look forward to the next lore video you do. Huh, I wonder if the Damocles Gulf Crusade has a lore book? It would be a love and ironic target to look into, I think.
Oh god yes Damocle Crusade next! I'm starving for some Tau action!
@@otaviolobo7989 Yeah, the kind of Tau action where they are bent over by our Superhuman "heroes" and punished for being non-conformists of the glorious Human race.
Has there ever been a scenario where two chapters fight along side each other so long, suffered so heavy losses, synergized so well that at the end of the conflict they have emerged a cross breed of both chapters. If not, that might be a good idea
Hmmm...
Blood Angels,
Raven Guard,
Blood Ravens?
Spoiler alert : they survive the penitance Crusade... but a surprise waited for them at the end of it ... with a lot of hungry mouths to feed 😁
@@lordmaur180 and they survived that by the skin of their teeth, too!
How fitting that your series began and ended right at the same time as my semester.
Kept me going through it honestly! ❤
Also Huron did nothing wrong.
Vote for the space marine libertarians!
The Adeptus Administratum failed the Astral Claws...
You have to make the red Corsair video next! The series just isn’t complete without it.
Arch that last image of huron blackheart.
"MODS ARE ASLEEP! POST HERESY!!"
It really does make the eventual extermination of the High Lords all the more satisfying after seeing this video.
I knew how Huron was gonna end up from the beginning. This is why you read the lesser known details in your codexs folks!
This was mostly from the Imperial Armour Volume books.
But yeah the 5th edition codexes made it clear who was going to win, much like Prequels.
I can't wait to listen to all of these back to back. I'm also very hopeful for ur next big series, whatever that's going to be about. I look forward to ur next lore video.
Honestly the Lamenters should've known better, and backed out the second it came to civil war.
@Vadan Drumist Knowing the lamenters, they would be later tracked down by the inquisition and judged as cowards, if they fought on the loyalist side they would have suffered even worse casualties. Doomed if you do, doomed if you don't.
The Astral Claws were their first real friends, they didn't wanna betray them
Well it started pretty well for them . Also it started with a disagreement on a matter of tax. Would you betray your friend because they didn't pay there unfair electric bill ?
Also the WORST thing the astral claw really did before the conflict was being non codex compliant thing that A LOT of really trusted chapter already are : space wolves , black templar for exemple. Also it was only when they where properly battered and alone that the astral claw began to be heretical astartes
The Fire Hawks: _makes one of the most undeniably badass plays of the entire war, bravely earning themselves a position among the heroes of the war_
Also the Fire Hawks: _immediately celebrates by committing heinous war crimes on surrendered civilians, as if to remind everyone that they were one of the key parties who started the war in the first place._
Thanks a lot arch, couldn’t ask for a better graduation gift!
I can't help but think that the star phantons as gotent nothing of value for their sacrifices: they just got an impossible job, a devasteted system and they will probably have to actively keep the mechanicus aways in order to make sure they don't come stealing what population yet reamain.
and the only loot I can think of is whatever reamain from the ring of steel that hasn't been destroyed
you underestimate the time they can usa also the mechanicus DOES NOT FUCK around like that with ASTARTES.......and they got trillions of people already but imagine this you got an entire system to do as you please in 300 years its liveable in 500 you have hunrdeds of thousands in it in 1000 you have billions if not trillions due to exponential growth and settlers your chapter has now a huge system with possible industrial outputs and.....with the help of mechanicus possibly a a hive world here and there
@@mariuscatalin5982 if it was another system I would agree 100 % but it is a system in The Maelstrom adjacent zone. And they don't have the experience in this zone that the mantis warriors had. they will be hard press to defend the sector from raiders especialy when they only have 1/3 of their chapter to do it
@@matthieuniclas9784 still hurron wanted NO RAIDS this chapter.........not so much..........on short raids are acceptable and its a HOME SYSTEM meaning its easier to defend and a destroyed system is wanted by no one who will plunder a dead world?
@@mariuscatalin5982 Who will plunder a dead world ? mmmh maybe a mad tyrant of a maelstrom of chaos at the head of a madden legion that has vengance on his mind and know your current turf REALLY well.
I really think that that the logical following of the story here would be : after spending so much ressources infighting pirate come kill everybody the end. (Actually huron the black action might have save the imperium in the sector since he gainned control of the maelstorm)
@@fabienherry6690 again it's a free world, left to be shaped as an astartes wants or likes, they can literally try to Terra form it, kidnap a bunch of humans, make them breed and develop a hive world there
Let’s see: several sectors destroyed, 3 Chapters destroyed o condemn, billions enslaved and a Chaos Warband formed... honestly thank the God Emperor the Inquisition is on His side, I would not like to see what the would do if they did wanted to hurt the Imperium
Emps: (Currently Fucking Weeping at the mere sight of this)
Lorgar: (Laughing his balls off that a new Traitor Legion has been born from the stupidity of his Father's pet Malcador's failed projects, the High Lords and the Inquisition)
Damn what an ending!!! Big E must be so disappointed for everyone involved! Can’t wait for the next war you cover 👍
I love the carcharodon marine just chilling on the whirlwind.
Excellent series. Will look forward to listening to it again in the future.
Thank you Arch for going through this warzone for the fans. I hope you keep doing more of these war zones. Especially the Damocles gulf or crusade, that’s a weird one to figure out

I do enjoy rewatching this series from time to time. One of your best
Still never played a single game of tabletop Warhammer, but these lore videos are awesome.
That chaos face at the end reminds me of my cousin Roman. :)
Loyalist Astartes be like: "what a mess"
There were a few folks who were asking about Tyberos the Red wake, could you perhaps do a video on him too? for their sake.
Man, I've finally caught up and finished binging all the long series here ending in this video. Now what?
So, I have listened to this series twice now. (Well, one and a half times, I listened to about the halfway point when it was coming out, then slacked off till now, restarted and I have just finished listening to it all the way through for the first time)
A very interesting story, and as usual your presentation style is excellent.
