Huron is what would happen if Abaddon was actually competent and threatening.
Oh abbadon is but he doesn't know how to not let the imperium win and also move the story along
Failbaddon knows this too. He is careful to keep Blackheart close but not too close
Also if he didn't have a mop for a head. I really detest the aesthetic design of Yabba Dabba Don and his equipment. Its so overdesigned that it looks ridiculous.
@@augiechiavuzzi4907 I dont know Abby’s actions literally saved the blood angels and the entirety of nihilis gave the imperium a psyker so unbelievably strong that he ruined magnuses plan to bring the warp to reality which was literally one day away from success. His actions also allowed a warp entity Sanguineous to start acting as if he were a demon primarch . His actions also brought the eldar and humanity closer together all the while loosing one of chaos’s last two black stone fortress.
@@KaiserAfini And he's not even in his Heresy-era Cataphractii armour anymore! When did he even get the time to switch to Indomitus plate?
For people who are curious about the post-Gathering Storm lore regarding Huron Blackheart:
he's basically a better Failbaddon. One of Blackheart's lieutenants attempted to usurp him by stealing Macragge's Honour right out from under the Ultramarines, which Blackheart took one look at, realized that's WAY too big a target (especially since Guilliman's back) for him to have, and tricked his cocky renegade marine lieutenant into losing it to the Ultramarines... all to use as a distraction while the Red Corsairs savaged the White Scars' homeworld of Chogoris.
Oh, and he's keeping the blackstone fortress Abaddon gave him.
Why is this man not the warmaster.
Because a vilain that is dangerous through genuine strategic brilliance and not sheer personal power and amount of troops could not be defeated just by throwing Gary Stu marines at him, and GW need them to always win.
@@victoriencharnot555 GW needs who to always win?
@@Liberty_or_Ded the Ultramarines.
@@cpaul562 Oh, yeah, no, you're pretty much spot-on. They always gotta win no matter what.
Meanwhile my sneakybeakybois the Raven Guard can't win a damn thing even though they are the masters of stealth, which should make them the most OP Astartes in existence, and yet nope.

I still uphold my headcanon that the Astral Claws are secretly from Horus's gene seed.
@@Matihood1 interesting, but ...meh, still bastards of Girlyman for me
Would make sense.
And right before it happens, sanguinus shows up and cucks him as the daemon prince of chaos undivided and new warmaster.
@@Matihood1I was hoping it would be a missing primarch who was essentially a privateer, whose legion was essentially pirating different xenos' for their resources.
As someone who has listened to Arch's entire Badab War series literally more then a dozen times. I think I can honestly say it is definitely worth a listen. It is a wonderful example of the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
The road to hell is paved with the detritus of the destruction left in the wake of Inquisitorial incompetence and hubris.
@@sadwingsraging3044 nailed it.
Or as Arch might say: The rrrrrrroad to hell is paved with good intentions.
Huron did nothing wrong until the inquisition said he did.
I like to believe that Huron, with as much time as he'd spent in the Maelstrom, was exposed to Corruption, but held on by his clearly strong will and personal strength.
That it was only in his moment of weakness- critically, mortally wounded by that melta shot and then being flown by his last, desperate soldiery into the Maelstrom as a last-ditch escape- that he could no longer resist the red calling. Their collective desperation and pain in brutal and unnecessary defeat led to their final transgression, and it was then that they actually become unsalvagable.
Which makes it even more impressive that my poor Lamenter boys are still loyal to the core and still untouched by corruption. Even after been screwed over royally by Lufgt, by the way.
@@Furzkampfbomber I like that.
Which reminds us that yes, one of the imperiums biggest enemy is... itself, chaos is practicly all made of deserters and traitors, though off course... with a lot of meddling of the gods
well he did one deal to survive and bind himself with that freaky little creature. but after that he seems to refuse to have any dealings with the demonic powers since he refuses to be a puppet
He eventually became what they were trying to prevent, and with the knowledge of how to fight it, he learns to be efficient at it
And he has only a fraction of the forces in his old stomping grounds.
I always felt sad for Lord Huron. If he was more patient on his ambitions and had his ear closer to the neighboring politics he most likely could have succeeded in controlling the Maelstrom. Hell if Huron waited for another century Guilliman would of most likely approve of the plan.
Yeah, sure, and the inquisition would still fuck him up for it no matter what.
@@MrHellsing76 Isn't that what the Inquisition is existing for? To save the Imperium with its hands, while at the same time breaking it two-time with its arse?
Rowboat Girlyman: "So let me get this straight, you want to waste time and manpower throwing Astartes and guard regiments into a warp rift while the galaxy is literally torn in two and everything is on fire and we need everyone we can get as we are desperately trying to hold onto what footholds into the Dark Imperium we have as well as protect our side of the rift?"
Huron: "Well, when you put it like that..."
I doubt Guilliman would have approved of it, but I feel he would at least have taken the time to outline and explain the priorities of the Imperium and expressed a desire to have Huron's help in those areas before his plan
@@elysiankentarchy1531 girly man also told folk we need new planets and we need new resources, this would have been a perfect boon for just that
I loved the idea about two chaos empires in that fan fiction 50K, the Western empire of Abaddon and the Eastern empire of Huron... he seriously deserves his own...
Given the shit fest Imperium is on, two chaos empires might be too much to handle given other enemies they have, so i much rather see Huron smacking the Tau around well as Nids in his own way, well as maybe wrecking havoc on orks and abys boys so Imperium would have some breathing room to deal myriad of dumpster fires all over the place. Huron might be traitor and chaos worshipper, but he still did everything for the imperium. That does not mean he likes xenos, or chaos forces. I would love to see his way of dealing even a splinter fleet of nids, since those are pretty much biggest treat in the galaxy at the moment, followed by Necrons and orks.
I love Huron's story because number one, it demonstrates how the Inquisition's bad habit of creating a new enemy every time they manage to destroy one. And number two, it shows the cyclic irony that is a theme throughout Warhammer. It shows how so many evils are created through good intentions and how most of people's problems tend to be their own fault.
Humanity to a T
*Glances at She-who-Thirsts.*
I’m certain we’re the only ones.
@@liamhogan4369 Yeah that's why I changed it from "Humanities problems" to "Peoples problems" As I was writing, it occurred to me that pretty much every race in Warhammer is a victim of their own decisions. Matter of fact, I feel like the Tyranids are the only ones that aren't and that's because number one, they seem to be doing pretty well for themselves at the moment. And two, I don't think they're actually capable of thinking in those terms. I don't even think the Hive Mind does really it seems like it's mostly just instinct evolving to complete a task.
@@kurokaze511 Very true. Sorry if I came off as condescending or some such.
To be fair to the orks, while they are absolutely a cause of the state of the galaxy… they seem to be enjoying all the fighting.
@@liamhogan4369 not that big into the lore, but didn't recent lore advancement give grief to a big ork faction? Yarrick got offed by some choas boy and the orks were really pissed about losing their best scrapping partner. either that or i really should stop watching 40k memes.
Luft Huron, on of my favorite WH characters.
All thanks to Arch and his war for badab series.
For the Tyrant!!
For Badab and what could have been!!
I do wonder what happened to certain Inquisitors When the Imperium finally realized who the new Big Threat was. After all the Resource Extraction Grid had been almost razed and a lot of resources spent to put the Tyrant of Badab down. None of the higher ups can have been happy to find him alive after all that. Whatever happened to Inquisitor Jarndyce Frane? Please tell me it hurt!
Who again? That person never existed
The “Legate-Inquisitor” who officially started the Badab War by being a bigoted idiot.
also the cartago slave rebellion that will likley turn up in it's wake cause collective punishment is/was and always will be stupid
That's not how people like that work. Because they attacked the space marines and murdered them unjustly to the point they fell to chaos... the imperium can now claim they were justified the entire time.
4 replies but only 2 visible? Looks like the Inquisition's been busy...
I really can't help but admire, respect, and even sympathize with Huron Blackheart. For one thing, no traitor is he; he himself is the one who was betrayed. For another, Cool Superhuman Pirates in SPACE.
Man they botched him so hard in Gathering Storm, though.
Huron did nothing wrong until the Imperium pushed him past the point of no return. Once again the Imperium is partially if not mostly responsible for a new grave threat that is arrayed against it. So much blood, treasure and resources were wasted in an absolutely pointless civil war that never needed to happen.
One wonders what could have been if the had just left well enough alone after the Warders had all but won that civil conflict.
@@admiralalex1000 one wonders what would have happened had the Warders been given sufficient reinforcements to do the job asked of them.
@@admiraltiberius1989 Yep. Sadly the High lords have a habit of shooting the Imperium in the foot then go. "Huh I wonder where all this blood is coming from?" Only to shrug their shoulders and ignore the problem.
@@admiralalex1000 also would love to know what would have happened if the Lamenters been praised for their noble and gallant defense against the Space Hulk. Instead of being chastised and brought under suspicious.
@@admiraltiberius1989 I mean it is the Lamenters so...maybe it would have gone bad in a different way? But really they did what others could not and should have been praised. Had they gotten the praise the Warders might have gotten a new 4th chapter.

Lol if they replace harmless aby with Huron I would actually start worrying about the chaos marines as a "actual" threat
Considering the current lore about Vashtorr I wonder if Arch would cover the old lore about the Forge of Souls.

I agree that the imperium pushed him past the breaking point and are responsible, but I utterly reject that Huron had no part in his own downfall. He had played his hand in that aswell, and there are things he could have done differently that might have prevented this
Sure but who dosn't make mistakes every now and then.
@@nigredoooalgown6245 "I've done much, made mistakes, monumental ones." - Commander Starscream
Those hands were tied by the Inquisition...
Remember the inexcusable treatment by them of the Lamenters. _THAT_ started the whole damn thing.
While Huron did some mistakes, like training mutants, saying fuck you to the codex and taxes are theft to the high lord's, most of these mistakes were because he didn't had other options.
@@sadwingsraging3044 not exactly. You are right that Huron was being blocked by the inquisition.
However if Huron wanted help. He did have someone nearby with a large army and navy that could help him, and he had something they wanted, no needed.
Huron could have allied with Cartago and used their armies and navies to better secure his sector. In exchange for some of the materials that would have costed alot more to use for the creation of further armies. Cartago in exchanges gets its resources to tell the imperium to go f off, and their troops get some combat experiance with some damn good soldiers.
That was my favourite 40k lore series. Arch is the best lore channel.
Un-Ironically one of my favorite all time 40k characters I wish go more of a spot light. The "New generation of Chaos Lords, vs the Old" or something like that. So much potential, but chaos can't seem to have anything.
Love that the traitor primarchs are back, but that has its own issues.
What about the details on that monkey, dog, and bird thing he has with him? Also I'm sure the red corsairs get a good chuckle about the dark irony of their situation.
Since you mentioned your Badaab series, let me express my thanks to you for that good sir.
Not only was it very entertaining and informative, it came in very handy at times, like when i needed to stay awake when my infant son was having trouble sleeping lying down due to a cold and i needed to carry him around for a few hours at night, your Badaab videos kept me awake and passed the hours so I could give him (and my wife) a good night's rest.
The old 40k Radio podcast had a PDF of the entire war for Badab as a campaign with fan made pictures. The best one was the melta shot that wounded Huron.
I miss that podcast and I might still have the pdf on my old pc or an old hard drive somewhere.
Huron Blackheart, a true loyalist turned treacherous pirate. The only reason he's viewed as the rightful Warmaster is because he is not given enough attention to ruin like Abbadon, and has the capacity to not throw away an irreplaceable Blackstone Fortress, unlike Abbadon.
Except here's the thing. Horus couldn't fully control the traitors, Abbadon couldn't fully control the traitors. How could a pirate who's not even fully loyal to Chaos have even the faintest chance of controlling any warband? Just because he has a Blackstone Fortress doesn't mean he's any good as a potential warmaster. Chaos chose Abbadon for Warmaster, not Blackheart, so he'll never be one so long as Chaos prefers their own chosen Warmaster.
Regardless, this video is as great as an Arch lore video should be. Opinions are only just opinions, and nothing compared to the badassery that is Huron's lore. This is Blackheart, and he is here to stay, regardless of what Abbadon would say about it.
In that case chaos would be better off not having a warmaster after all what the Point of having a leader if you barely listen to him.
@The smiling gun-knight That's the thing with Chaos, they never cared about their subjects. So no one cares about who's Warmaster because all warbands/primarchs are only in it for themselves and only join up when they have something to gain from it.
@@inductivegrunt94 not to mention every time Abaddon has to get a Black Crusade going he has to bash a lot skulls (including demon Prmarchs occasionally) inorder to get the forces he needs going in the general direction of his goals
think alot of people join huron partly because he isnt wastefull and he actually uses tactics. and sure he will hav eto fight forcontrol he knows how to outplay th eothers
It's a real rush hearing Badab again, and to come back and visit Luft Huron... I can't stop grinning. He's like 40k Captain Harlock fighting the Imperium. A complex and brutal hero.
I’ve been waiting so long for your take on the red corsairs and black heart and I’ve been graciously rewarded !!! A character that deserves so much more than abaddon, I’m making a . Campaign myself a RED CRUSADE a better CRUSADE a FEARED CRUSADE HURON BLACKHEART IS THE TRUE WARMASTER AND WILL MAKE IT BE KNOWN TO ALL!!! YOUR EMPIRE IS DEAD ……. And this is not just for those of the blind imperium ……..
Thanks so much was well worth the wait keep it, your lore videos are by far the best and my favourite on UA-cam please don’t stop no matter how much gw tries 😅 everyone loves an antagonist 🤣
I have to say Ciaphus Cain is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters, mostly for the levity. But Lugft Huron, and the Warders Chapters have been since my discovery of them, my favorite groups to learn about. I feel for Huron, poor bastard commited the cardinal sin of trying to be usefull, and have a soul...
He also throws some great parties in form of the Skull Harvest.
Huron is certainly a very interesting candidate for a redemption arc. But only once he reaches new peaks of power and is finally burnt by the Ruinous powers too; it's almost poetic that Huron cannot be allowed to be too powerful or he may rival Abaddon.
He was once a reasonable man, I wonder if Just cause could tempt him ever again? Ignoring the new lore, if Gorillaman ever did return I wonder if he could bring Huron back into the fold? Though at the same time I doubt if Huron could ever exist under the eyes of the Inquisition and the Codex.
IF G-man attempt such a thing, he would probably have a civil war on his hands, because i doubt the Inquisition would be quiet about a Huron.
@@getfreur2458 I can imagine a foederati situation where Huron is not allowed back into the imperium but is allied to it.
He looks so much happier now that he's working with chaos :)
I mean
He have a bigger imperium and strength then ever
He fufill his ambitions
Yessssss! I have been waiting for this ever since your Badab series (which I have binged like three times now)! I am firmly in the Lugft Huron Did Nothing Wrong camp...at least up until he had starting stealing geneseed from other chapters.
I remember a story from an old GW magazine about a spy who infiltrated the Red Corsair’s. He is ultimately found out and Blackheart promises to make him “a hero to be proud of.” It ends with him waking up to find himself in total darkness, he can’t move but can feel cables going in and out of his body. He’s left to wonder of Blackheart had him entombed and launched into space, or put him in a chaos dreadnought.,
Arch u have done it again iv just watched all 31 vids and it was amazing. I can't believe he went to chaos but at the same time I'm not. Just truly an amazing story loved every hour of it
I find it interesting how well Huron matches in his experiences with a certain daemon primarch with "Iron" in his moniker... I wouldn't be exactly surprised (well, I mean if they bother to pay attention to details such as this...) if the Lord of Iron even paid personal interest to what Blackheart and his merry men are doing, he after all is the only one of the still "living" fallen broothers who bought his daemonhood, the others gained theirs either by service or deceit. And Huron is, all through his tragic background all the way to his utilitarian approach to the Chaos powers, a very clear successor.
So unless you have a source other than Blood Reaver the Night Lords involvement wasnt quite right.
They were hired to destroy the fortress’s power generators leaving it defenseless to an assault by huron’s primary fleet and Astartes elements.
Once the power was down and Huron committed, that’s when the Night Lords fled the surface and stole the Echo of Damnation, which was a battle barge not a strike cruiser. Black heart and the corsairs should have still claimed the lion’s share of the geneseed minus whatever the Ech’s vaults might have held. The theft of the Echo occurred before Huron had claimed the gene vaults.
Arch I swear you have the best timing precognitive even I just finished the Badab series
I may be taking some inspiration from a movie about a certain Panda, but I have this mental picture of Huron, his Corsairs brought to proper strength once more and with growing power in the Badab sector, ordering the imperial governor, Arbites, or even inquisitor stationed on a newly-conquered brought before him.
They're dragged in, bruised and bloodied, expecting death, torture, or even worse, only to be told to stand before the former tyrant, while he informs them of their fate...
That they are to be sent strait back into imperial space on a small ship with no fear of molestation by him, his corsairs, their allies, or any subjects.
Why?
"Simple." He replies, "I want you to pass along a message that we'll be heard by the High Lords, and especially the Inquisitors and the various chapters numbered amongst the emperor's finest." His grin is like that of a famished wolf eyeing a warm carcass.
"Tell them I'm coming. Tell them my brothers are coming, and nothing, not the imperial slave armies, not the babblers among the ecclesiarchy or scribblers of the administratum, the lunatics of the mad dogs of the inquisition, or the vaunted champions of the astartes...none of them will stop us."
"Tell them Terra will burn for what it has done to us."
"And tell them to pass along a special message for inquisitor Frayne and Culln."
I'm coming for them. I'm going to find both of them, and before their time is over, they will know the horror of seeing everything they built and defended burned to the ground before their eyes. Their ears will hear the wails of those who trusted them. They will know what they unleashed on my brothers, and only then, after they are made to scream for death will I grant them such release.
Now get to your ship. You have a long flight.
I war literally rewatching the playlist for the 16th time when this was uploaded the friggin timing.
You have no idea how much I waited for this video, thanks Arch.
A recent audiobook on audible had the narrator keep in character of Huron for the copyright info at the end of the book, it was hilarious XD
What book?
Was really fun following Luft Huron's story from Badab to now. Sad to see them utilize any chaotic powers at all. Would have been far more interesting if they remained "pure", while still turning into enemies of the Imperium. I mean, it's just straight bizarre to see them fall like that, after having witnessed the chaotic hulk that only the Lamenters could defeat.
A disappointing lack of organization and logistics in this video. I'd love to know how Huron's Empire is structured. Is it like pirate feudalism? How do different warbands operate? Do they share their loot with Lord Huron as tribute? Stuff like that.
WAUW, I have been listening to the War for Badad since this week. This Video has some amazing timing :D
i just got done rewatching the war for badab again and now this shows up

Great work as usual Arch. Well done man.
Blood Reaver was a good book.
Watching the Red Corsairs and Night Lords get to work was so much fun.
The epilogue we needed thank you!
Good! This is exactly what was needed after the end of the Badab War videos. Great Work.
The vid i was asking for since Badab series ended. Thank you soooo much Arch!
In the end, all Huron needed to tame the Maelstrom were two things: A single, nearly depleted company, and a reason not to demand anything more.
The Inquisition and High Lords, in their infinite incompetence, accidentally birthed a new Traitor Legion with a Chaos Lord that's actually competent.
Honestly?
I think Huron’s greatest advantage is simply he doesn’t have ten thousand year’s worth of baggage like the legions of old do.

AT LAST!! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS
A new video for my BADAB folder? Unexpected but VERY welcomed
I think Huron is a lot closer to his former strength even without geneseed, I'm sure there was a bunch of renegade astartes that would've flocked to his banner over the centuries.
There are actually, they mention it in his book, how he actually has a huge number of astartes that are not red corsairs by blood, some even a deserted ultramarine
love how in th ebooks he actually mocks the grea tlegions since the yhad 10k years to do something but has only been raiders mostly. while huron himself has been at it for like 500 years orso and made such a grand army to become such a threat to the imperium

So I loved Vraks, watch it through at least five times now. Badab was higher quality, better art, and a much larger scale. But it always felt less exciting, like a bell curve that just petered out at the end. Vraks had so much back and forth with peaks and troughs in the story of the siege. This video feels like the exciting back half that I feel It was missing. Thanks Arch
They really need a new Blackheart model so people don't have to just kitbash Abaddon anymore.

Huron's greatest crime was dragging the Sad Hugs Boys into it. Those guys had enough on their plate.

I'm literaly 60% through third Baddab war listening at part with scorpions plan and this drop out. Oh boy.
With how the inquisition took one of the most stalwart and brilliant leaders in the battle against chaos and the other ravaging forces within the maelstrom and needlessly turned him into their greatest enemy (though not without his own doing as well), it makes one wonder whether or not a significant percentage of them actually seek to prop up ang propagate the forces of chaos as an eternal outside enemy that they can always be there to defend the flock of mankind from at any cost in power and submission.

Good thing I re-watched the War for Badab series last month :)
Since when is kicking an Astartes out an airlock the end of a fight? Those Red Corsairs are mag-booted to the outside of that ship and coming back for round 2. Maybe not all of them, but they are definitely going to be a problem.
Man I've been excited for this video since Arch did the War for Badab. Let's fucking go!
Red Corsairs are my favourite Ultramarines
Huron did one thing wrong... refused to take 'No' as an answer. And thus became a rebel, a secessionist and when beaten a traitor and joined/aided the archenemy in petty revenge.
I will keep rooting for Huron and if i ever make a channel of my own to bring this impressive universe to people of my surrounding and language, i might just name it Luft Krlon (hopefully that doesn't bring the wrath of the GW legal department on it at once )
Ty Arch for bringing us this lengthy and awesome tale.
Such a missed opportunity. The Red Corsairs could have been a legitimate "Pro-human, pro-emperor, anti-imperium" faction. It would be nice to see some renegades still be loyalists instead of always being chaos
A anti-imperium pro-emperor is extremely hard to pullout, principally for a SM faction. I think the only faction that pulled it out was the Severus Dominate.
I think a separatist faction that reject the corpse-emperor, but doesn't embrace chaos would be more interesting. Like the old human empires that opposed the crusade.
