Hi I just found you with the scrap quilt. I love what you did. I will be trying this also. I sew scraps together when I want to sew and don't want to think. Love it.
I love making scrap quilts!! I got started using adding machine tape as my base. Currently I have a beautiful blue batik that I cut into 6" squares, cute in the diagonal and then place my scrappy strip in the middle. Then I square up the block (to 6.5" I think 🤔) This kind of sewing is so relaxing!!! But I love the long strips you made! I think I'll try that next.
I like the idea of using them as you go. I have way to many cut and "waiting" to be sewn. Time to stop cutting and get sewing. This is my first video I have watched from your channel. I look forward to watching to you as I sew!
I just found your channel. Really enjoyed today’s video. I do something similar to what you do. I just don’t use the paper. I see them directly together. Also, right now am learning collage quilting. Falling in love with that. So I am taking all my scraps and sorting them into different color families, which is sub divided into dark, medium, and light hues. So. I hope at some point to have each shoebox full enough that I never have to buy fabric to collage quilt since the technique I am using is primarily with small fabric pieces. Right now primarily purchasing fabric and or kits. A few years ago I downsized to go travel. Sure wish I had not done that. I sure miss that fabric stash now…… lol
Just found your blog because of the mention of scraps. I use adding machine tape, very plentiful at thrift stores. I used sewed strips about two and a half inches wide with solid color one and a half inches wide between , made curtains for my sewing room. Sun shines through liked stained glass.
When you showed your lovely quilt, the name Joseph’s Coat stayed in my mind! The big stitch quilting adds to that “feeling”. I’m not religious, but biblical names for quilts and blocks are very traditional.
I have seen more and more people using this and interfacing or muslin for scrap piecing. I have never understood why. I just sew the pieces together. Can you tell me why you prefer this method? Maybe I’m missing out on something more enjoyable. We quilters live to share great ideas.
Big stitch looks great!
Sew the way that makes you happy. There are so many things that we have to do a certain way that we are allowed to sew any way we want to.
Absolutely
❤ I save all scraps, regardless of shapes, and do crumb piecing on a foundations. It is my mindless sewing! 😊

I agree. sewing scraps together is my favorite activity. Too bad I have bought so much yardage over the years!

It's fun to see different ways people use scraps, too!

Your quilt is beautiful!
I'm glad you like it.
You hand quilt, you wonderful person.
It’s the best way!

Sounds lovely! I love stained glass effects!
I like my scrap colors all mixed up. I've seen lots of quilters on youtube who separate by color and that's fine too but not for me.
Lol I remember Stitch Witchery.
Thank you for sharing... I love your quilt! What batting did you use?
I don't like to admit it too loud, but I left my paper on the quilts I've made with this. So far, so good. I did wash each quilt after quilting.

Enjoyed your video but I don’t see the need for a foundation for this type of sewing. I just sew the pieces together.
Please tell me what needle you used for your quilting. I can’t find one with a sharp enough tip.
Large eyed embroidery needles work. Ive also used chenille needles.
Please explain why you need that as a base and not just sew the pieces together?
Yes, you can just sew them together. I find it easier to handle if I use a base foundation.

Using a foundation of scrap tape keeps the pieces stable. My end result will lay flat.
I use really ugly fabric which I wonder what I was thinking
Absolutely 😂
