    Keep up the work Taku. It’s taken me 3 days due to surgery and being in the PACU and ICU but I watched for a much as I could and took a break when I couldn’t hold on and stay away longer but made it an effort to watch your uploads. I love your vids! Heck it inspired to to pick up some carbon steel Japanese knifes. Hope to one day fish with ya. My biggest fish from my neck of the woods is a 32lb king salmon. Hopefully I recover well in the next few months and can get out to do some ice fishing. Yours Dave.

    I used to tourney land based shark fishing in florida. I highly recommend a good quality belt and harness (black magic) and using the low gear when you’re at a stalemate and struggling to gain line. The harness and belt you can use your entire body weight vs arm strength it’s much less tiring and cuts the fight time by A LOT since you can lean down and reel down on the fish

    I have a couple Penn international wide reels and i can say for sure, that if you don't have a belt with the slot for the rod to prevent pivot, you spend all your energy turning the reel sideways instead of cranking the line in. You guys are beasts for doing it the hard way! Keep up the great vids, Taku!

    if he goes for the motor quickly like that ... go into freespool so you can maneuver without having to pull against the fish with a taught line... it doesnt mean you wont lose the fish but your chances would have greatly increased

    We found a product called Knot to kinky which is nickel titanium leader . 100lb works fine. It's high tech metal leader but BFT on the troll won't spook from it when pulling the mad macs at high speed. This will save you chew offs on the hit, rub offs on the boat or prop and other heart breakers. Other thing that will help is to use 7X Kaiju treble hooks on the mad macs. The leaders cost about 24 bucks a piece and the hooks cost about 19 a piece. Mad macs are 50 a piece so your actually protecting your lure investment with the upgrades.

    Sorry about the big miss on the other tuna but something we used to do on the east coast is one not have the drag so tight that the fish couldn't run, when it runs it tires itself out. 2nd one thing for getting line back quickly is making circles on the fish but you always have to make your circle in the opposite way the fish is running. Large circles. I was explained that the fish is not 4 or 5 hundred yards straight down they are somewhere in the water column and your line is kind of like a big L shape in the water, ( using monofilament line; spectra has a lot less drag so it a little different but still the same concept). I heard some people refer to this as the tuna dance. I watch some guys get some really large fish in on 30lb line. Also use the low speed on the real if your trying to power the fish in. But still I wish I was out doing it again, I'm now land locked in Idaho and mainly hunt and fresh water fish. I troll still for Kokanee salmon but its nothing compared to tuna fishing. Something I haven't seen used on the west coast is spreader bars when trolling. We would use those with decent success also. Cool video and keep them coming. Love the tuna action. .

    Chris, once you hook up on the first fish don’t reel the second one, count to 5-6 seconds and see if you get a double hook up, if nothing happens then start reeling the second one. Just a bit of advice, but if you’re trying not to catch 2 at a time then keep doing a good job, reeling 2 Tunas will be a hell of a workout and challenge.

    I got no experience in fighting these but wouldnt it work much better to use the rod to pump and then reel down? I feel like this would be way less effort than cranking the wheel against full load. Let me know if I got that wrong, just curious :)

    • @LettuceLand
      @LettuceLand 10 місяців тому +1

      Daniel is doing it right @29:20. But you can just crank full load, the reels they're using have really low gear ratio which has a lot of cranking power. Holding the rod is way too tiring but using the rail is a good idea

    • @MrXsnuff
      @MrXsnuff 10 місяців тому

      @@LettuceLand thanks! I guess I got confused with the BlacktipH vids where the host gets up huge grouper and sharks way heavier than a tuna, just using the pumping method. But if huge strong NFL players struggle HARD doing the same, it‘s gotta be the experience and specific training. I‘d die fighting such a tuna though so no judgement from me

    • @LettuceLand
      @LettuceLand 10 місяців тому

      @@MrXsnuff Blacktip videos they fail a lot and require someone to support the rod. Also the line is not far from the boat. Grouper and sharks might be heavier but tuna fight way harder and they are extremely far from the boat. You can have fights that last hours
