I started getting into Starfinder in last months and those videos are extremely helpful to me as a GM and to all of my players that are starting out with me. Thank you very much! We would love to see more Starfinder videos in future!🤞
I've never played any kind of tabletop and always struggle with numbers, but I'm a good storyteller and wanted to use this for my brothers stream. I really appreciate these videos, you really break it down in a way that easy to understand and I doubt it would be possible without you lol
Absolutely Brilliant! This is what i was looking for! a guide line so that you can get a basic understanding for the character creation. If possible could you do a Spaceship creation guide next?
Great video ! But there's a small mistake in your calculation of AC, you forget to factor in the flat 10. EAC 5 and KAC 6 should be listed as EAC 15 and KAC 16.
I imagine a new player going out there with his AC of 5-6, always needing to be healed and trying really hard to boost his defenses. Like Sollow patrickson below me said nothing an annotation can't fix, just to make sure you're not setting a nefarious noob trap ! HI Cody! Thanks so much for making a video for my players, who like me, learn auditorially. Really enjoying the Starfinder content! looking forward to more! Cheers!
FYI: while you are correct that you get a +1 to your attribute modifier for every even number above 10, you actually get a -1 for every ODD number below 10; not every even number. Thus, you get a -1 modifier if your attribute is a 9. At least, that's how D20 _normally_ works. I don't actually have Starfinder. :-)
Good video overall, but there is a mistake in skills. Operative's edge and skill focus are both insight bonuses, so they do not stack. So the misc bonus to stealth and acrobatics should be 3 instead of 4.
Sweet. I have been showing our new starfinder group these. They love them. As a double bonus my wife can't blame me for not showing her how to play correctly. Thanks man!
You did forget to add the +10s to all of your ACs that you get for being a PC. And in the operative's case, since the Operative's Edge and free skill bonuses from your Specialization are both "insight" bonuses, only the higher of the bonuses is used. This will be +3 from the specialization until the Operative's edge scales above 3.
Miniature Market is really cool. I bought the pawns, and they were cheaper than anywhere else I saw, and they came to the house in just a few days. Love this site. And no, I'm not being endorsed by them, just letting people know that they can't do much better than them.
I just found you on UA-cam. I got into StarFinder 5 years ago. I prefer the Cyberpunk and sci Fi games to fantasy. Great video. I will check out your video for technomancer. Lashunta Technomancer FTW. A spell caster with laser pistols. Thank you for your StarFinder videos
British Ninja The other members of his party are a blonde female android with a denim jacket and a male android with an orange neckerchief. Actually I might do something like that now... Or DM one with a certain insectoid creature wanting to obtain perfection.
I got this a week ago and it just didn’t work for me, I used to really enjoy pathfinder but found the rules just bogged me down as a DM, I read the core book twice and decided to return it for Coriolis. Thanks for the amazing run down 😊
I noticed a mistake in your description of the Android ability it's Flat Affect (as in affect - noun, an expressed or observed emotional response), with the emphasis on the first syllable.
I already bought from Miniature Market. Got two starfinder books. Spent 63 dollars with shipping, which is saving more that 20 over prime. Plus, no spending on Amazon, so bonus awesome. In other words, his ad worked.
While every even number increases your ability bonus, every ODD, not even, decreases the bonus. Such as going from 10 to 9 gives you -1. Or from 18 to 17 takes you from +4 to +3.
As a new player, I am going to give you a bit of advice. I do not know where you get your abilities section from. I do not know where you get random +'s on your skills and whatnot. Its important that if you're making a tutorial that you list where you get this information from and why you got it so that your newer audience will know what you're speaking about. Pertaining to stamina and resolve, I had absolutely no idea where you got those numbers from, I had to google it lol. Good video otherwise.
at 6:41 you say to reduce Sense Motive by 2 pts because of Android, but you only wrote -1 Also "Stamina Points" is no where to be seen on the Class or Race page in my Starfinder manual. Not sure what's up with that. Other than those, this was a very helpful and informative video. Thanks for the help.
Hi, Great video and thanks. Going to start making my first character today with my gaming group. One question. You mentioned in previous video (intro), that you start with weapon specialization at level 3 that you are proficient with for your class. But when placing you scores on weapons here on this video you had them both at level 1?
might be a stupid question but i'm not sure how bypass works for mechanics in character creation, do I put a point in engineering and computers like at the start like this operative puts a point in stealth and acrobatics?
Amazing video! Earned a sub from a first time GM building a game. Quick question: What did you use to fill out the character sheet electronically? I am having trouble finding a PDF that I can fill out on Adobe Reader. Thank you!
I know this is an old video, but noting it down anyway because top comments doesn't seem to say this: Operative's Edge gives +1 insight bonus to all skills Skill Focus give's +3 insight bonus to the applied specialization skills. those two do NOT stack. You got +3 from focus till the Edge out grows it ---- or am I COMPLETELY off track here?
i did some digging in the rulebook and in chapter 5 (skills) it says the following: "Each class also features a number of favored skills, called class skills (see Table 5-1 on page 134). It’s easier for you to become proficient in your class skills. Class skills in which you have at least 1 rank are known as trained class skills; you gain a +3 bonus to skill checks with such skills. If you have more than one class, you gain the class skills from all your classes. The bonus for trained class skills doesn’t increase for skills in the class skill lists of more than one of your classes-it remains +3"
Wait hang on a second I'm a bit confused by one thing you said. You say at 6:32 that the Operative Specialization give a +3 bonus to Acrobatics and Stealth, but if you read that entry in the book it says that it gives you the Feat Skill Focus for those 2 feats, and if you read the Skill Focus Feat it says it gives a +3 Insight Bonus involving a certain skill. But then you also say that because of Operative's Edge they get an extra +1. But the Operatives Edge +1 is also an Insight Bonus, I thought bonuses of the same type don't stack and you just take the better of the two? Or is that different from Pathfinder as well? Genuinely curious as I'm still learning the system myself. It would make Acrobatics and Stealth a +3 instead of a +4 wouldn't it?
ContinuumSpanner Page 266 of the core rulebook states specifically that bonuses of the same type do not stack. So +3 is correct. I dont know why this information is not easier to find in the book. This rule seems too important to not be at the beginning.
Your sense motive math is wrong, 1+3=4 then 4-2(from flat affect)=2 and plus an additional 1 from operative makes that 3. But somehow, you wrote down 6? Forgive me if ive missed something, im a new player, but this quite literally doesnt add up
This is a really good tutorial, but I really wish you would make a boring one for those of us who have never played RPG's. If I was a seasoned or somewhat seasoned RPG player this would be perfect but for a newby it is a bit of a struggle to keep up and follow not knowing all the terminology...etc. Is there a tutorial for Dummies? Starfinder for Dummies Book?
I don't understand your calculations for the Sense Motive skill; you have +1 rank, +3 class bonus and -1 for Misc. Mod, but the total for the skill is 6. Shouldn't the skill total be 3?
Question in Armor section is says 10+Armor Bonus (1)+Dex Mod (4)+Misc Mod (0) ...you put 5 but doesn't the +10 make that 15 and KaC 16 ? also makes combat manuvers 8+16= 24 ?
Newbie here, I couldn't find anything about solarians and miscellaneous modifiers on skilld. Is there any part of solarian that change these miscellaneous modifiers?
Does operative specialization (+3 bonus to 2 skills) and the +1 bonus from Operative's Edge actually stack? I found this video super helpful in character creation. Just found that one detail to be debated in the forums etc.
I know this was posted forever ago but im learning how to play now. I dont understand why Acrobatics and Stealth get another plus 4 under misc modifier. Isnt the plus 3 already being added in with class bonus? Shouldn't it just be an additional plus 1 with operative edge?
so the plus 3 is from his Ghost Specialization, which grants the Skill Focus feat in the Stealth and Acrobatics skills. Skill Focus is a +3 insight bonus to those skills. It is miscalculated though, as you don't get the +1 insight bonus from Operative Edge since you can only have 1 type of insight bonus.
Am I the only one who finds the audio for these videos extremely low? I have to put headphones on and max the volume out just to get him at a below average conversational audio. The videos are great by the way. I'm a fan of the content, just not the volume.
