5 minutes after watching this video i fixed two heavy solid wood doors from swinging open! Now a tip from me, when pounding the pins back on put a piece of cardboard or junk mail between the pin and door to avoid scratching the door with the hammer! Ask me how i figured this out! Thanks man. Subbed
I am a 65 year old women and one of my doors kept closing. After watching this video I gave it a try and it worked with just one hinge. Thank you so much!
I seen your tip on stopping my doors from swinging open or close.awesome tip,Thank You, Jeff
I've done home repair work for many years and this is exactly what you say! Its a simple free way to stop the door from swinging. Their are other options that cost $$$ this is what it is. I like your video!!! Keep it up!!!

Sir...Thank You! I have lived with 3 doors that swing open/close for 20 years. You have made a HUGE impact on my life.
Wow! I thought I was the only one. LOL. 2 doors for 20 years for me.😂
Like a pea in your shoe, eh? 👺 What a relief! 😮💨
You, sir, are a genius. I have asked my maintenance staff to fix this multiple times and each time they say it's fixed but 2 the doors still swing open, slamming into the wall or another door behind it. I so appreciate you, thank you!
Childhood memory unlocked thanks for the help
Fantastic and easy to follow how to video. I fixed 2 doors this morning by myself. Thank you very much!
This was the first video I came across after doing the search and bending to top one worked like a charm! Thank you for mentioning what to do if just one hinge doesn't do it.
That was awesome! Years of screaming at the basement door finally gone. Thanks!
I’ve been watching a lot of ghost hunting/haunted house videos. I wish more of the people who think the house is haunted because a door opened on its own would watch this. Thanks for the information. I’ll have to look for more of your videos.
@Eileen Kennefick thank you so much for your comments and hope you do check out our other videos! We really appreciate the support!
No man those are the actual 👻👻👻👻👻 uuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh!!??
Maybe so!
Attempt #1: I only bent the hinge pin a little, but it didn't bind enough to stop the door from swinging. Attempt #2: I bent it about the amount shown in this video and it worked. Total time: maybe 6 minutes. Yes, you have to be careful not to bang up the door trim. Also, pounding the pin out from the bottom is the way to go. Thanks for you video!
Wish I had known about this long ago... fixed two doors in less than 15 minutes. Half of that was learning how much bend I really needed. Thank you!!
Brilliant! A few years ago I removed, cleaned and oiled the hinge pins on a door. BIG mistake! Made them so slippery that they would easily slide one way or another. This simple fix worked perfectly. Thx!!
Yes! I did this too. The oil stopped the squeak, but now the door closes... I can't wait to bend my pin.
Thank you for this simple but effective solution to swing close door! Works like a charm!!!
Thank you so much for your video! I fixed my swinging bathroom door just by following your instructions! It saved me a lot of headache and money to fix it.
Great results. It took three minutes and it is fixed. Thanks for the advice.
Thank you so much! I've tried shims but it didn't work. Your fix worked it in just a few minutes. 2 doors now stay where I want them without opening or closing on their own. God bless you!
10/10. Thanks!
Wow... This makes so much sense. I can't wait to go bend the top hinge pin. You are helping so many people with this video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for your kind words!
My Dad was a carpenter & retired HS industrial arts teacher ~ these are the type of DYI hacks he woulda shared in a heartbeat. Thx for your fast, easy vid-oh, and GO UTES! (SLC-based viewer here) 👋🚪

Perfect! I like keeping doors open while running air conditioner to cool whole house and would always prop something in between to keep doors open. Fixed two doors in less than 15 minutes. Thank you! 👍

Glad it helped!
Very brilliant tips. It helps. Thank you!
Worked perfectly. Thank you!
Just did this and it worked. Thank you!
Thank you!
Perfect, worked a treat, and just took 5 minutes, thanks!
Awesome. I used a grease to stop a shutter from squeaking but now it swings closed. This fix will work
Worked like a charm. Thank you.
Also worth mentioning is you can bend the top or bottom hing linkages the pin goes into a little bit. This way you have no bent pin. Just tap the linkage with a mallet to create a little tension on one point of the hinge which will cause the pin to push against the links.
I never thought about that great job thank you for the tip I’m a handyman to you learn stuff every day
Glad to help
Clever and easy.
Thank you.
Thank you, thank you.
Worked perfectly!

I'm your newest fan.... and sub.
Looking forward to seeing more
Thanks for checking out our video and for the sub! More to come!
This worked great on one door. Still not enough on the second door. When you had to adjust two hinges for the door that kept swinging open, did you bend the middle hinge or the bottom hinge?
Thanks for the the way that actually works!
You're welcome! Thanks for checking out our video and leaving a comment!
Great info. Works!!
Worked perfectly. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
You rock. Straight forward and did ther job. Thank you.
Very detailed instructions good job
Thank you! Glad it helped!
I have a door in my basement that always swings open and I'd love to try this fix! But when I went to remove the top hinge I noticed 2 things; 1. there are only 2 hinges instead of 3 and 2. There are no tops on the hinge pins. Do you think this will still work without the cap/top on the hinge??
Ima try 'dat! Thanks
Hope it helps, thanks for checking out our video!
My man👏🏼
Great and easy advice. You just earned a subscriber.
Thank you so much for your support!
Worked like a charm, thank you! One more tip: before you do this put some oil on the hinges, then open and close the door a few times so it spreads evenly. Will make this much easier, I could just pull the hinge out by hand once I bumped it with a screwdriver from the bottom. And it is good practive to oil your hinges anyway, even if they are fine, they won't develop squeaking in the future.
Quick, easy and effective!!!!!!!!!
Nice tip, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for checking out our video!
Great tip!
Thanks for watching our video!
Great job well done
Thanks for checking out our video!
Thank you 🙏🏽 from a new home 🏡 owner 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Great idea.
Thank you! Hope it helped you with a quick fix.
Do you always start with the top hinge, first? I have two hinges on my door
I’ve just used cardboard shims under the hinge after loosening up the screws, top or bottom hinge depending on the swing. If one doesn’t do it then double up. But never thought about stiffening the hinge up by bending the pin.
That's also a good idea. Thanks!
Oh, man. You've saved my sanity :) thank you
You just saved me so much frustration. Thank you.
Glad we could help!
Wish I knew this at my old house lol my new house doesn’t have this problem but it’s useful to know
Haha! This is definitely a common problem in older homes, but always possible in newer homes depending on how quick the contractor went through and installed the doors. Thanks for your comment and for checking out our video!
Great idea
Thanks for watching our video!
I just moved into a new apt close to the beach.
We get a constant breeze off the ocean.
We have a big sliding door facing the ocean and our front door is on the opposite side of the room.
The front door slams hard and is dangerous.
Any suggestions?
Bending the pin would probably not be enough.
I was thinking about installing a door closer?
Any other suggestions?
Good idea 💡
Thank you!
Thanks sir, now I have a DIY job to do tomorrow. 🇬🇧
Thanks for your support and best of luck on your DIY project!
It worked, ya hooo.
In Britain most hinges like that won't have removable pins
Now that's a neat trick! Solid wood doors are a bit too heavy for me to take off by myself 😉.
Hope it works and thanks for watching our video. Good luck!
That’s a neat idea
Thanks for your comment and for checking out our video!
It worked! :))))
Can we take out any one pin or the top one only?
In 5 minutes I fixed a door that’s been driving me crazy for years! Thanks!
My family has more issues when it comes to doors, all they do is talk about the door. They are old and nervous about doors. Thanks for showing a solution.
You just saved my 4 yr old from getting his head bumped by the door handle every time he comes into my office. THUMBS UP!
Thanks sir,I can't sleep for almost 1year because it's a very disturbing noise during the time of sleep or when resting time. ❤
Glad you are getting much better rest!
thank you goood sir. i fixed my door.
Glad to help!
What can be done if the door hinges don't have removable pins?
Exorcism worked for me. 😊
Haha! Thanks for the laugh and for checking out our video!
And it costs nothing Good Job!
Glad it helped!
Who would of known! This worked perfectly for my bathroom door it tool less than 5 minutes to do
Glad it helped you! Thanks for the comment!
Great idea! Only issue is the pin will start to squeak over time as the metal binds, but still a great solution! (Ps- I’m a finish carpenter)
Thanks for the comment @mark d. The squeak started the whole thing as we lubed the hinge to stop a squeak and then it started drifting open on its own. So we're hoping that both problems are solved now, but we'll see.
This Cougar fan thanks you :-)
Amazing! And taking the door pin out from the bottom... genius.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for leaving us a comment!
First step, call ghost busters.
Haha! Maybe so!
what to do if you have bearing hinges??
You can find springy hinge pin punches to make it even easier.
Thanks for the tip @James Moran!
Fixed 2 doors in 2 minutes using this method. So simple yet so effective. It was either that or the other 2 options. Call a priest or have the entire house rebuilt. 🤣
I just pull and bend hinge pins by hand. Higher carpet works too.
Thanks for checking out our video and leaving a comment!
It’s amazing what a little wife nagging and a short youtube video can do when combined. Fixed our stupid door in about 5 minutes.
Glad it helped!
Don't Use Your Screwdriver As A Pry Bar. When its bent up and rounded down it will slip and wear the screws and cause more lost time. Mark your old one as your new mini pry bar.
Remove the bottom door hinge pin first, middle pin second.
Replace them in opposite order.
Use 2 wood blocks so don't chip your concrete.
High chance the new lateral strain on the door hinge screws will cause them to push on the wood door jam and loosen it or the screws.
Thanks for the wisdom of the temporary restrain tip.
Thanks for the great suggestions! Really appreciate the time and comments you left.
