A Day On The Ffestiniog Railway - Reopened After Lockdown

- Join us as for the highlight of our post lockdown tour, we board the Ffestiniog Railway from Portmadog to Tan-Y-Bwlch, on it's second day of opening after lockdown. See the extra precautions being taken during the pandemic.
"The Ffestiniog Railway is the world’s oldest narrow gauge railway with almost 200 years of history, taking you on a 13½-mile journey from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Our historic trains climb over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures and magnificent forests, past lakes and waterfalls, round tight bends (even a complete spiral) clinging to the side of the mountain or tunnelling through it."

Hi Bob and Jenny, what a lovely train journey, beautiful scenery, We love steam trains too. It was a great day and Poppy enjoyed it too. Thank you for taking us with you xx
Yes it was!
Pretty much the best train travelogue you've done Bob & Jenny! The soporific click clack of train and views outside carriage looking over the exquisite scenery makes me want to be there now ! You may find the Welsh tourist board nabbing some of that footage!! Thanks so much for bringing us along.🚙🐈📷📽📽📽📽👍👌👌
Thank you, I wasn't sure whether to put a music track on it.
I think that for the outbound journey the train sounds and natural environ sounds are perfect without music over it. For the rest, .....just dont sing!!!!😀😥😁🐈🚙⛰🐈👌
A nice relaxing video Jenny and Bob. Some great shots out of the train there. - Thanks a lot
Many thanks!
I did the Ffestiniog, Llanberis and Barmouth railways way back in 1972 with my school where we stayed at the Dolgellau YMCA, such a great part of the world !!
Thanks for taking us all along with you . We really enjoyed watching this day out on the little train Take care :D Teddy
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you Bob Jenny and Poppy that was a wonderful day out we still haven’t been out for 22 weeks now so that was a real treat for us 🥂
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you both for another interesting video with plenty of information. Look forward to more of your adventures. 😊👍
What a lovely day out you’ve taken us on again , brought so many happy memories for me , you’ve had a wonderful Wales tour, so looking forward to where you take us next , thank you Bob , Jenny and Poppy x
Our pleasure!
Another fantastic video. We always look forward to your adventures and all the information you provide.
Thank you 👍👍
While in our second lockdown in Melbourne Australia we really enjoyed the journey you have taken us on. Looking forward to your next trip. Thank you for showing us the beautiful areas of Wales.
Thanks for sharing your trip out, stunning views, another great job .
Many thanks!
This brought back memories of our 1st trip to Wales. I was all steam trained out at the end of 3 weeks. I have a steam fan husband. Most exotic was steam journey on a Cuban sugar plantation. Thanks. X
That sounded interesting in Cuba!
@@BobEarnshawMoHo you'd have lived it, the history, the scenery, it was phenomenal.
Thanks for bringing back the memories Bob, we used to go to Harlech every year when we were kids in the 60s and always involved a trip on the Ffestiniog.
Thank you bob and Jenny its really nice seeing you go to some of my childhood places with my grandparents its brought back some really Amazing memories sadly my grandad passed away in may 2006 but we went all around north Wales and i went on the railway as my grandparents were massive steam engine lovers i don't understand how people could go abroad for a holiday when we have got so many beautiful places like Wales, Scotland and Cornwall i have been taught even if we have horrible weather still make the most of your holidays and make the memories together that we can remember
Thank you, there plenty to see on the British Isles.
What a lovely day out in one of Wales’s most beautiful areas. I must return there soon.
You should!
Hi Bob, Jenny & Poppy, It's years since we were on the Testing railway, you forget how beautiful the scenery is, it brought back some great memories for us, Thanks for sharing
This brought back some wonderful memories Thank you Bob and Jenny. Done this trip many a time although Rich has never done it. I 've stayed in Porthmadog quite a few times and even experienced an earth quake there in the 80's that broke several of the caravan windows we were staying in at the time! There is always a drama when I go on holiday! Definitely want to go back and show Rich how beautiful it is. We did get as far as booking a trip to Wales last Sept but Rich was really ill. Now with covid, shielding and not being able to get off the drive I guess it might end up being Sept this year or early spring. If not, then we will live it through your videos- Lin xx
Thanks Lin, we really enjoyed our trip to Wales, glad you did too.
This is funny, we were on the train called Linda just before yours and we were also in carriage 9 and as you are arriving in the station we can see our son looking out the window. Small world. Enjoyed the video 👍
Oh cool!
Hi Bob & Jenny, what a great video 👍
Thank you
Another brilliant day out for us to enjoy.. thank you so much for sharing, and inspiring us for future trips. Not sure how our Blythe and Berry would be on the train, think one would want to be on the seat, and one under. Looking forward to Thors next tour. 👍🏻😬
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video Bob & Jenny. I know you probably mentioned it, but wondering why they aren't running all the way to Blaenau Ffestiniog?
We were there last Friday & got Fish & chips from the chippy you drove past, lovely. Stay Safe. Al & Jan.🙋♀️🏴🏴
Thought they said they had an engine breakdown.
Thank you Bob and Jenny. We are currently binge-watching your videos as we have just sold our caravan and we are waiting for our first motorhome. Imagine our surprise when watching this video to see ourselves in it! We were on the same train trip while spending time in Snowdonia with our son and daughter-in-law and two of our grandchildren. We love watching your videos and have found many tips and hints from some of them. Thank you again. Steve and Carole Fennell
What a coincidence!
Thank you, that was fascinating, throughly enjoyed that, take care
Many thanks!
Really enjoyed this one folks, and really whet our appetites to get back to North Wales soon! Mountain mist, the smell of coal and steam, magical 🙂 Cheers. Mart & Jo.
Glad you enjoyed it
All Aboard. All Aboard. Enjoy the ride.
I love everything you guys do it's so interesting ✌🏻♥️
Thank you 😊
@@BobEarnshawMoHo anything to make you smile ☺
Lovely video, Poppy loves her day ,
During our motorhome trip around France staying on mainly municipal sites, I have watched your videos of arrivals at CAMC sites. Staying on these municipal sites, where the pitches are large, much larger than Club pitches, and many have their own water supply, I have realised just how soulless and lacking in any character Club sites are. The videos of you driving around the various sites show them as regimented car parks. Perhaps you should use your position and following to campaign for a change in how sites are laid out and managed. Start with the “park to the peg” ruling and move on to pitch dividers to give some privacy and character. As i write this I am sitting on a site in northern France where the pitches are divided by narrow shoulder high mixed species hedges.
You must have the wrong man for your campaign! I like club sites, I feel that I know what to expect. The pegs are there to make sure the space is adequate between units for safety reasons. Enjoy your time in France.
Hi There ! Thank you for taking us on your journey on the train, thoroughly enjoyed that . You do take us on wonderful adventures, many thanks. 👍🏴🏴🏴🏴👍🏴🏴🏴🏴👍
You're a really useful railway.
Hi guys, fantastic video. I build model steam engines and design my own rolling stock all in G scale. That was a great day out for you. 👍✌️😀
Hi Bob!
I will watch now!
Great video bob
Yet another lovely video 😊 i also love trains. if you haven’t visited York railway museum yet then I must recommend it x
Yes I have, filmed it too, great museum.
Thank you both for taking us in a beautiful adventure with you. Really enjoyable & felt like I was actually there xx
Thank you!
Hi great video hope you have a great time
I have been on that train to Blaenau Ffestiniog it was fantastic. I wonder are the locals still aloud to catch the train? i remember them saying it is how they got to work in the winter times. Enjoyed the ride stay safe :)
Nice vid Bob, Poppy missed her chair on the train
How close was the fence panel to your head on the return leg? You suddenly pulled back in to carriage
Thanks, It wasn't as close as it looked!
@@BobEarnshawMoHo might be worth tagging the Welsh tourist board with your trip. It's certainly got me booking a trip next year
Love the video a great day out
Glad you enjoyed it
You're a really useful engine.
Shame no Smellyvision. 🤭Great vlog Bob 🇦🇺😎
Hi Bob, wondering how far is the car park from the station as hoping to do the train journey shortly ?
I guess about 500 yards.
Hi, my local area. Are you planning to visit Betws y Coed. I'm aware that you drive through it.
Maybe next time.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo you would enjoy Zip World and a walk to Elsi Lake. Stunning.
Bob what's the name of the above sea level app.
Stewart
Sorry don't don't I just googled "what's my altitude".
Always ride this railway when in WALES
Great video Bob. Surprised you were not required to wear a mask. Lovely part of the world and a great look at how things were yesteryear. Scenery is stunning.
Just noticed later on you were both masked
How did you do the lock off shots of the train passing through at Minnffordd on the way back?
Thanks, we were in a closed compartment, so no need for a mask. I filmed the other engine going up the track by putting the camera out the window.
Did you see Michael Portillo’s Great British Railways tonight (Tuesday 28/7) which went on the same railway.
I think I have seen that before, thanks.
How are you holding your Gopro?
On a GoPro Shorty Stick with a Ulanzi G8-5 vlogging case.
Hi, thank you for the very informative video ... 2 questions:
1. the compartment you were is in 1st Class?
2. Will it be similar for Gelert Explorer - Gold?
It wasn’t a first class carriage or a Gold one. We had to book a full compartment due to Covid restrictions.
Are you heading to llandudno or going to barmouth on your trip?
No we are home now.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo where are you heading to in the next video or did you head straight home?
We went home after Coed-y-Llwyn.
So you didn’t have to wear face masks
No, thankfully. Compartments were closed.
Looks like you’ve had a good few days - been years since I was there and around Harlech area - off to Wales in September Gower region
