Update: A lot of people have written to find out what happened to Addie and her brother and home in Ethiopia. I’m adding the update below. We both appreciate all the love that’s been sent her way. Hey, everyone! It's Addison, and I just wanted to pop in here to express my immense gratitude for all the love and encouragement you've showered upon me. I'm doing fantastic, thanks to the man above! 🙌 Now, about my brother- he spent his childhood in a privately owned Group Home called children’s home from age seven until he turned 18 in March 2023. We were able to reunite, and it's been a heartwarming journey. On the family front, I had an incredible opportunity in 2022 to return to Ethiopia after 15 years, reconnecting with my biological family and reuniting with them! 🌍 As for my adoptive parents, the last time I saw or heard from them was back in 2016, just before they gave up their parental rights. No contact since then. If you're curious about what God is up to in my life, stick around! I've got a book and a UA-cam channel launching in 2024. Your love and support mean the world to me! Remember, no matter the current circumstances, God is always in control, and He'll never leave you hanging. Trust in Him, and remember His timing is always perfect. Thanks again for all your love and encouragement! 💖✨
Remarkable young woman. So proud of her that she kept going forward. As a previous foster child 50 years ago I know what it took for her to keep taking one step forward.
Adopting kids from African countries has always been glamorized in the west. Celebs like Madonna and Angie Jolie made it fashionable. The Ethiopian government should help facilitate her return. I hope she finally gets to connect with her biological family.
Her birth parents dumped her. Her country failed her. So blame them first. Had she stayed in Ethiopia she would have been much worse off. It isnt like she was born into a rich, or even loving family. There are too many such kids in Africa and most end up worse off than her. That is tge reality.
American psychologist should be hels accountable for the lack of professional accountability. Prescribing drugs should be limited to seriously ill parents. They are ridiculous and incompetent.
@@Blue_FalconGirl Slow, huh? LOL Mine was a question to illustrate the stoopidity of religious thinking. You cannot have it both ways. If you praise your imaginary man in the sky for her recovery, why isn't he condemned for the initial misfortune. Oh! I know: THE DEVIL? You're silly.
More horrifying than her adoption experience is the situation with the hospital. I can't believe that a hospital would administer treatment based on a diagnosis given by laymen. If they didn't psychologically assess her themselves, they need to be investigated, so that it doesn't happen again.
Addison is inspiring!! I hope she gets whatever it is she wants in life! Those ex-adoptive parents should be ashamed of themselves! It's good to hear Ethiopia stopped that exploitative adoption nonsense! I hope she was able to find her brother again.
As a mom of adopted twins from Ethiopia I am so, so sorry for what you have experienced.......My older kids are 21 now and one moved out with her boyfriend this year because she wanted to and my son is studying teaching and still at home with us.......all my kids have been the best thing that ever happened to my husband and I.
Very telling that the adoptive parents first reaction was to dump her off at a hospital instead of getting her into therapy. It seems like they just wanted her to look after the brother then got rid of her at the first sign of any difficulty.
They should be deeply ashamed of themselves...but I doubt they even think they did anything wrong. It's basically child abandonment. She was legally their daughter and instead of helping her, they threw her away like garbage. Truly horrendous behaviour.
Please even it’s the case- a sad reality, let’s try as much not to judge the adoptive parents for the love of our GOD sake.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼I pray for both parties
I used to work in therapeutic foster care. It would shock most people to learn that what happened to her is disgustingly common. I am so glad that she is doing better now, and I wish her all the happiness in life. She deserves it ❤❤
I am not shocked at how children are treated in these mental health facilities because these psyche meds are being pushed off on people who are simply visiting their doctors for aches and pains. Instead of them determining the root cause of physical pain they are quick to point you in the direction of being depressed so therefore, they start writing those prescriptions for mood altering meds. Advocate for yourselves and others!
So glad that she had a deep rooted faith. That is definitely what helped her mentally get through those times when no adult was helping her. I hope that she continues to move forward and succeed.
I love you Addison, your story gives me so much strength. I had a similar story although funnily enough, mine is the other way around. Originally South Sudanese/Ethiopian . Came to Sweden at 3 and lived in an orphanage there untill 12. I was reunited with my "mother", a woman I had never met or at least couldn't remember. They said she was my biological mum and that she had been looking for me. I moved to England to live with her. I was excited. I also had the language issue. I could only speak Swedish, this family were neither Sudanese nor Ethiopian, they were Ugandan and spoke English and their Ugandan language. They started to abuse me, look me in the house sometimes for months straight when they left to go on holiday. I ran away at the age of 16 and lived from sofa to sofa. It's difficult to get it together when you have little trust in others. I find it difficult to trust or depend on people. Well done for having come out on the other side. As an Ethiopian American my self I have experienced that certain people will decide you are crazy or something is wrong with you just because you are different than them or what is believe to be normal in America. It seems putting labels and defining someone a certain way is easier than getting to understand ware the person is coming from, weather it be doing or thinking differently. I am so happy for her. I can't believe adults would look at a kid, take her from the life she knows, and abandoned her like that with no remorse. Cruel humans.

Addison , from one African to another, please visit your home (mother land) as soon as you can. It will be very healing and therapeutic for you. God bless you and your son
So proud of you! Please find your brother because it’s going to be harder for him, unfortunately he was too small to know his strength like you. It’s a shame that people can do this to a child. I am happy that you kept god in your life. We all Ethiopians, weather we came here as refugees, as permanent residents or adoptees we manage to survive the many twists of the American life with the help of our faith and the unwavering trust in God, our father🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾!
Beautiful young lady. May what she's been through be her strength when she becomes a professional practioner. I hope she's in regular contact with her brother. So sad.
People do not talk alot about what adoption does to children, even with the most meaningful and carring people, children and people remember and need support threw this process. Blessings to you and your future!!!
I’m glad Ethiopia decided not to allow adoptions from outside the country only because I’ve heard and met a few parents who have this white savior complex, but who dont realize they’re doing it for themselves. One single mom from work adopted a kid from Ethiopia a long time ago, and she said things about her son that made me feel like she didn’t like him. She always complained that he was getting in trouble, and that he didn’t listen, etc. She didn’t offer good news about him. I had to ask her one time “what do you like about your son?” She had to think about it. She said “He’s funny.” Ok, why did I have to ask about good things about your own son instead of complaints?
She didnt speak the language as in English. That is what she said . It is very hard to diagnose or treat patients who cant communicate. I think that had some bearing on what happened. I have seen this happen with non verbal kids and also foreign patients.
There should be accountability for these, so called adoptive parents that take kids from their parents to dump them in the foster care system. Makes sad and mad.
There is no doubt Addison has tremendous resilience and courage. I disagree with you that she did it by herself though. Sounds like she had help from the North Star program in learning important life skills (she mentioned learning to budget was crucial) and the compassionate folks at the group home. Few people truly succeed on their own without the support of family or some sort of societal program..
How Amazing the difference when we listen and lean into what’s going on for youth vs if we decided for them. She’s a wonderful light for All children and young people!
So happy this turned out to be a happy ending to her younger adoptive and adolescence journey to an adult. Hope she finds her biological mother in great health when they meet again.
So so proud of you Addison. You did good, may God continue to bless uou abundantly and may grant you good health and courage. Hope you are able to reconnect with your brother and the rest of your family
God bless you., My dear for your faith, you will be greatly rewarded. God has his eye on the sparrow. There are a lot of wicked people in the world. Keep that beautiful smile and that warmth on your heart. Your smile lights up the Internet, beautiful child of God.❤
I’m so incredibly impressed with how you have turned a horrible situation around and have become this amazing woman with a spirit of determination to be independent and successful. Praying God will cover you and your family sweetheart 🙏
This was such a sad story for Addison to have to go through. Then sent to a foster care system. I am sooo glad she aged out and went to Arizona State Univ, has a son, and letting foster youth know they can make it, just like she did. Thank you Addison for this video.
Love her positive attitude even in the face of all she's gone through. So glad a platform like Storyboard Project exists where people like her can have a voice.
What a beautiful young lady! She has been through so much. I love that she is relying on God and her faith is strong. God bless you, dear and keep moving forward.
So very sad! But glad that your faith in God helped you and things turned around. All the best for your future. I pray your brother is doing well too. ❤
Weirdly enough this is the second time I'm hearing of a similar story of people wanting to adopt a boy, then taking on the older sister so he wouldn't be alone, then dumping her when she proved to complicated to handle. She was never wanted to begin with, for them she was merely the half off item on the sale... What kind of monsters think like that??

I am so proud of her! Those adoptive parents need to held accountable. What they did was emotional and psychological abuse, plain and simple.
Agreed! And the fact that the doctors didn't actually properly diagnose her and just put her on medications is absolutely appalling.

Why would these people adopt this child and treat her so badly? It's mind boggling the lack of compassion.
So glad she has support after foster. The system has failed so many.
Foster kids who age out of the system get free college, so that helps a ton.

So so proud of you Addison. You did good, may God continue to bless uou abundantly and may grant you good health and courage. Hope you are able to reconnect with your brother and the rest of your family
Hi! Thanks for writing! There is an update pinned to the top of the comments :)
God bless you., My dear for your faith, you will be greatly rewarded. God has his eye on the sparrow. There are a lot of wicked people in the world. Keep that beautiful smile and that warmth on your heart. Your smile lights up the Internet, beautiful child of God.❤
You are such an inspiration to foster youth.
God bless your journey and protect you
What a beautiful young lady! She has been through so much. I love that she is relying on God and her faith is strong. God bless you, dear and keep moving forward.
God is on your side sister!
So very sad! But glad that your faith in God helped you and things turned around. All the best for your future. I pray your brother is doing well too. ❤
God bless you Addison. Keep the faith
What a beautiful strong girl. May something like this never happen to anyone ever.
Beautiful soul! Go gal and be a bread winner for your mum. God shielded you for a reason, your are a winner!
