@donutdoode69 mandatory pedestrian warning sound, does not make sense, they make more noise than a quiet combustion engine. even if Tesla is an American car, they use SI-system for their measurements. 30 km/h is a perfectly rould number in SI-system, and applicable for European regulations. Yeah, if you know what electric motors sound like (I drove electric forklifts years before consumer EV's were a thing), you can hear the Telsa motors pretty easily. They make a very distinctive sound, it just sounds nothing like an ICE vehicle.

You wonder why specifically 18.6 miles/hour limit at 1.16 in video and say that they should make it whole number (19). But in my guess it is actually already a whole number in km/hr. 30 km/hr = 18.64 miles/hr.
Assuming that all passenger cars or the vast majority of them go electric, I wonder if it will increase the frequency of animal strikes on the road. Or will the road noise from the tires still be enough audible warning for them?
That sound when you put your car in park, I think it might be a electric handbrake. One of the cars i’ve been in made that sound when they put the electrical handbrake on. So I think that’s a electrical hand break in your Tesla, I don’t know if i’m right because i haven’t been in a Tesla but it sounds like a electrical handbrake.🤔
Thanks for the info. I just got a model 3 yesterday and I can hear a slight buzz/hum sound while its charging. I guess this is normal then? I am only charging on a 110V outlet so I wouldn't have thought it would battery temperature management system would need to kick in.
I usually hear at least some kind of noise while I'm charging, but it shouldn't be too loud when charging at those low power levels. If it gets really loud there is probably a problem, or you're just hearing your HVAC kick in.
I have an electric bike and I barely notice a battery temperature rise on a 2 amp charger and it might be just lukewarm at 4 amps. If I've used the bike a lot at 10-20 amps the battery is noticeably warm (as if it had been a sunny day). I imagine with a super charger, that the heat build up would become significant. The motor makes a slight whirring sound and if I am not pedaling, I can hear an additional freewheel click.
Since I bought mine before the mandatory pedestrian sound, I wonder when they will implement that for all us "old" owners. TBH, not looking forward to that cause those sounds are a bit annoying, esp the backup sound, but I can see why they used that type of sound. It definitely does grab attention!
I doubt they will. I'm pretty sure the mandate just says that all cars produced after September 2019 are required to have it. I wasn't a fan at first but I realized it's more for people that are blind or with poor eyesight than people just distracted by their phone
Part of the reason why I love electric vehicles, is their stealth. I hate unnecessary attention, and many times it's best to just sneak by a55holes, like cops, drunks, and punka55 teens, then have them hear my electric motorcycle coming. I would rather build my own EVs, like by converting a gas bike to electric. But if I was to buy a production EV with that feature, one of the very first changes I will do, is disabling that sound, or wiring those speakers to a switch, so I can turn it off for stealth, and turn it on for literally blind people. Maybe I will combine it to my blackout circuit, that cuts all lights off, but the drivetrain is still powered, so I sneak by undesirable people, and also jaywalkers that would freak out into my path, if they knew I was coming. Never underestimate the importance of being able to disappear. No arguments. No awkwardness. No harrasment. And I don't have to stab or kill anyone in self-defense. I'm just gone. Why 18,6mp/h? Here's the answer according to a document made in 2013 by the US Department of Transportation: "The agency chose a crossover speed of 30km/h (18mp/h) because this was the speed at which the sound levels of the hybrid and electric vehicles measured by the agency approximated the sound levels produced by similar internal combustion engine vehicles."
that back up sound is so weird. my dad's car has a pedestrian warning sound that sounds like angels singing, it doesn't change based on which way you're going. probably equally as weird actually lol.
30 kilometers per hour is 18.6 miles per hour, that's how they came up with that number. 30 kph is a widely used safetly limit in the rest of the world for these kinds of regulations, so it's only logical that the US would use that same limit.
Alex Sibila I don't know why this video was recommended for me (don't ever plan on even getting a license never mind a car) but I'm planning on going into biotech and fun fact scientists in the US use the metric system when doing labs. I never really learned how to measure fluid because I just couldn't remember the different units and stuff until I started biotech and I ended up learning how to measure fluid in mLs so it is a lot easier to just multiply by a 1000 to get from mLs to Ls and vise versa. The graduated cylinders also helped me get a grasp on how much fluid a mLs is.
I've noticed that the Test Model S is louder on the outside than a late 70's through mid 80's Chrysler with the 318 V8. I've had many Chrysler products from that time period, and have snuck up on a good number of friends with them.
the Gwiz (DC version) make a sound its like the turbine of an RC F-16 lol! Probably the loudest electric car ever made. (1 fan for dc motor cooling, 1 fan for battery cooling then the noise from the differential and the DC motor brushes wushh)
Alex - Good info! Have noticed our Model 3 making the space ship sound in reverse but wasn’t aware (and haven’t heard) the rumble noise going forward. Will have to listen closer. When they add the feature to change the sound, I’d be tempted to (temporarily) change it to the sound the cars made on the original Jetsons show (yes, I’m carbon dating myself). Was curious if your parents get to see your videos of you racing Corvettes…..LOL!
The forward noise is I feed very subtle, you really have to be listening for it. Would love to hear a Jetson sound if we can customize it! And yeah, my parents watch some of my videos haha
@@Sibs - Other noises: 1. The clunk when the main battery contactor closes (when you open the door… I think?). 2. HVAC blower running occasionally when the car is parked. Info I found somewhere said it was to dry out the AC evaporator because of odors associated with residual condensation not draining from the system. An unexpected consequence of operator error: Came home the other day and noticed that the car did not automatically lock. It was in the garage and we were busy with other stuff so I let it go. A little while later I tried locking the door with the app, heard the horn honk twice with a message something like “doors could not be locked”. Looked through the manual to see how to reboot the car. Went out to do that and discovered that the driver’s door had passed the first latch but had not completely closed. Until I closed the door, everything was operating as if the car was in use. Am wondering how long that would go if a person didn’t eventually intervene. And lastly, with sincere apologies for my comment about your parents watching your videos because it could have been humiliating to you.
Believe it or not, the US is actually a metric country. Regulations are actually done in metric and then converted into imperial units. 18.6 mph = 30 km/h
Thanks for the vid. I tuned in because I've noticed traffic has started to sound subtly different lately. Sometimes it sounds like background effects for a science fiction movie. I'm still not sure how much, if any of it, is coming from electric cars.
lol once i heard the padestrian sound while in a parking lot and i honestly got slightly scared because i didnt know what it was but i found out it was the tesla lol
Can they change the Pedestrian Warning Sound. The Tone searingly hearts my ears. I hope they find that this tone causes hearing damage sooner rather then latter so less people end up with hearing loss issues in the future. This sound can be very loud at times. Another thing that needs to change is the Reverse Lights. Now Reverse Lights are not Reverse Lights. They are Warning, Hazard and Reverse Lights so you do not know what is going on anymore. The person can be standing outside of the car and the Reverse Lights are still on. Also, the Horn does not need to go off when you lock the car. The Lights flashing is more then enough. This car is supposed to be efficient. So why is there so many unnecessary electrical systems running draining your efficiency and Range. .

That makes sense!! I always forget that everyone else uses the metric system (and rightly so)
Alex Sibila I don't know why this video was recommended for me (don't ever plan on even getting a license never mind a car) but I'm planning on going into biotech and fun fact scientists in the US use the metric system when doing labs.
That's cool too know! A lot of my labs in school used metric so I know what you mean.

Tire noise happens also after the car being parked for a while - a flat area forms that slowly diappears as you drive.
Being able to customize the sound of backing up your Tesla? I'd have it play "Move bitch get out da way" by Ludacris
1:55 Sounds like an alien vehicle lol
A electric car makes no noise. The government just requires them to have a noise for safety. Only sound you'd hear is the acceleration maybe
Believe it or not, the US is actually a metric country. Regulations are actually done in metric and then converted into imperial units. 18.6 mph = 30 km/h
ugh why do we do that, makes no sense. Metric is superior
Don’t electric buses in San Francisco and light rail trains in Newark, NJ make similar noises?
The fact that it can sound like a UFO makes me really want one
Rooting for the Jetsons car noise 😃
Thanks for the vid. I tuned in because I've noticed traffic has started to sound subtly different lately. Sometimes it sounds like background effects for a science fiction movie. I'm still not sure how much, if any of it, is coming from electric cars.
Lots of hybrids are adding weird noises too, so it could be contributing
My 2018 Mazda 3 does the same whirr sound when using the parking brake
My model Y, when switch my foot from break paddle to accelerator, I hear a coupe clack clack sound. Do you experience that?
No I don't. That doesn't seem normal...
@@Sibs thanks for the reply. the new regenerative breaking update solved that. Amazing👍
Very nice video broh.....!
Thank you 🙌
18.6 miles is roughly 30 km, so it was probably done for internationalisation reasons.
lol once i heard the padestrian sound while in a parking lot and i honestly got slightly scared because i didnt know what it was but i found out it was the tesla lol
Until it makes a vroom vroom ill buy a tesla, i like to help the enviroment but the vroom vroom
Is it quiet on idle for a long period of time?
1:09 It's because rest of the world is using metric system where 18.6411358 miles per hour is 30km/h
Does it anti lag or have lambi sound naturally
18.6mph is exactly 30 kmh.
The pedestrian safety noise is a requirement for Europe, not the USA. Europe uses Kilometres.
Why would those sounds bother anyone?
Some people like electric cars because they are quiet, so any additional artificial sound seems unnecessary
How about the screen on front of this car are exposing of direct sunlight while traveling so far.
Why don’t they just make a rule that anyone that gets a licence has to drive electric cars?
Thanks for information and where are you from
The corvet ruined the whine of the Tesla when you were demonstrating what it sounds like during acceleration.
That acceleration sound feels like it’s the sound of wheels?
Could be a little of that too!
So why is there so many unnecessary electrical systems running draining your efficiency and Range. .
2:55 that mic was not showing how loud it gets, louder than a regular car with the engine on.
The reverse sound, sounds like a police rumbler siren
Being quite is notorious?
1:00 it sounds like r2d2
I want the back to the future DeLorean sound on my PHEV lol
that'd be cool!
Its the auto handbrake, noise happens on any car with electric handbrake operated by a switch or auto
oh, interesting!
All this talk. I just want to know what makes the noise and where is it located?
There's chapters in the video - feel free to skip directly to the sounds.
