I can't believe nobody laughed at the 'you don't have to be an antiquarian in order to get value from this discussion' line. Especially since the delivery was so genuine, almost George Carlin-esq. I thought it was funny Peter!!!!

I enjoy philosophy very much however I can't see how a philosophy degree would help me after university.

I think a degree in philosophy could act as a "tripod for your camera", being supportive, as it is universally expandable and can be applied to a lot of things.

Philosophy grads actually do really well...and the reasoning and thinking methods that are learned in philosophy courses are really valuable. By the mid career period (10+ years in) Phil grads have higher average salaries than most STEM grads...

That statement is absurd... In response to a reply that is not showing up here anymore: Believing something to be true or factual when the majority viewpoint considers it be fiction is but a matter of opinion if both sides are unsupported by empirical evidence. If one side has supporting empirical evidence then the most that can be said is that the opposition is in error... not that they are stupid. My original statement stands. The difference between stupidity and genius is vast not slight as the first comment proposed.
In fact, stupidity as a concept is a negation, indicating a lack of intelligence and is a radical difference in kind, not even a difference in degree. Otherwise, there would not be a real demarcation between the imbecilic or idiotic person and the genius. Lets us wait for the many idiots of the world to come up with a solution to any of the more advanced mathematical problems that have already been solved... then you might convince me that my position was erroneous.
