That's my question when you said 21F/B. I thought Toyota went further cheap with a thinner oil pan. By the way, it looks like Toyota/Lexus use the 2.4 turbo across the board on almost all models. Whether you buy a Lexus RX350, TX, Land Cruiser, Highlander, they all end up with the same engine. Basically you just buy a different shell with the same gut in it.
Excellent video. You are spot on with the first oil change around 500 miles. The material in the oil is a combination of metal alloy from break-in and casting sand from foundry and grit from machining surfaces of the block etc. You can clearly see this in the filter element. As an engineer I have used an oil and filter change at 500/1,000/2,000 then every 4,000 after that. May sound excessive but if you plan to drive it 100k, oil and filters up front will extend the engine life significantly. $200 in oil and filters is a great investment especially when you are providing the labor. Well done!
Great video man, these Toyotas make it so easy to service especially oil changes. After I learned how to do my oil change, I’ll never pay for oil changes again!
glad to see you doing this under 500 miles. Its seem like most manufactures now don't even recommend oil changes for break in period. Its because they want you to destroy your vehicle so you have to buy another new one. I have 2 80 series and a Taco just like yours . After looking at the new one i will be going a used 200 series . Keep the videos coming .
Awesome video. Never seen one like it actually. I bet most people would freak out seeing metal from a new engine, but it is totally normal like you said. Please do way more vids on this truck. I'm nervous about the 2 turbo 4 cylinder and longevity, but if Toyota of old has any bearing, this thing should last.
@@bogotstogoskiing Thank you! I will definitely post more update vids as the mileage increases. The Land Cruiser is a single turbo 4 cyl hybrid and the GX550 is a twin turbo V6 👍🏼
I think its the first as well. Couldn’t find anything before uploading this one! It was at factory height in the very beginning when I took off the first cover, but I jacked it up a bit when I had the oil catch underneath 👍🏼
I think for a modern SUV this looks amazing. I do wish it was cheaper. Maybe in the future when these have 100k+ miles. I can pick one up for 48 instead of the 54k.
Thanks! We loved them when they were released and had to have it. This one was spec’d out to $71k, but I do feel they will retain their value over time.
No, just log the date/mileage, use the correct oil & oil filter and save the receipts. That way you have proper documentation to show them if anything comes up.
If the drain plug is torqued to 30ft lbs every time you do an oil change the threads in the oil pan will wear out by 50-60 k miles. I suggest 15-18 ft lbs with a new drain plug gasket
So what has happened to that stupid cartridge filter that was supposed to save the planet? Toyota kept telling us how fantastic it was, but now it's back to the original one (that actually works).
@@gio.rodriguez YZZN1 filter is used on a lot of Toyota/Lexus. I just stock cases of YZZN1 for my family's Toyotas and Lexus, A single SKU made my job easier and cost less. I buy cases from Lexus/Toyota dealers at around$4.30/each. Never buy from Amazon or Ebay because they are all counterfeit knock offs from HeNan, P.R. China.
**Upon further research, the oil drain plug torque should be 30ft/lbs**

This is great info and I totally agree!

Thanks! That’s the right mindset to have. You’ll do better work and safe money at the same time 👏🏻
You’re a very smart man for changing so early on. I wish a lot of other people would do the same.
Thanks! Hopefully this vid helps others do the same 🙏🏼

Great video
Great information. Thanks
Thanks was looking for a oil change vid. How tight did you tighten the skid plate? Is there a torque spec needed?
No problem! I just torqued those down by hand 👍🏼
Good vid!!!!! Bad ass rig
Thanks! 👏🏻
Great job. You should wait till you fill up with oil and checks for any leaks before put the covers back on.
Also good advice 👍🏼
Man I have been waiting for a YT video on LC 250 oil change. You are 1st worldwide I think. Did you jack up the LC?

Nice vid! thanks.
I've heard it is better to fill in the new filter with oil. Thoughts?
I would maybe do that if the oil filter pointed down towards the ground, but this one is horizontal and it would pour out while you install it.
Ah yes, that makes sense!
What RPM are you getting on freeway speeds? 65-80 MPH? I’ve been debating if I am going for the Land Cruiser or the new 4Runner.
Honestly, I haven’t even paid attention to that while driving. The hybrid system does a great job at providing low end grunt when needed.
are you not worried about waranty issues if you dont take to dealer for oil change?

I’ve torqued my Tacoma drain plug to 30ft/lbs for 8 years without issue. The drain plugs are the same size.
@ ok Thats great
I follow the ancient German tradition of automotive accountability, and just make sure it's 'gooduntight'.
@ there is zero pressure on the oil pan drain plug
I did my new Corolla at ~ 500, then at 2000, next one planning at 5000, then maybe every 5000 going forward
I think I'll be doing the same!
Is it the same engine as the new Tacoma
@@joseestrada9458 same as the Trd Pro Tacoma
Thanks for share… remove the skid plate every oil change NOT GOOD bad design by manufacturers.
Agree, I just leave mine off.
I’m surprised I did my oil change on my 24 Tacoma and didn’t see any shavings did it at 550miles
Did you cut open the filter?
@ yes sir, opened the filter and saw nothing tbh
@@moisesceja5294 doesn’t sound right. New motors will show shavings for the first couple thousand miles at least.
if you change oil filter only in 500mil then oil and filter in 1k miles...i think you will get a better result.
That makes zero sense. You change both at the same time.
The new Land Cruisers look so good. They will look 🔥once people start putting beefier tires on them.
I agree!
My filter was RETARD tight. I thought I was going to break the adapter. These are great trucks.
I didn't even try to take it off by hand. I went straight to the tool haha
gimme a ride in that lc. i wanna see if i want one hehe -jason grey taco
Come on over! 🤙🏼

They probably sold so many replacement caps that it didn’t make sense haha
Oil filter is tiny af.
Engine is tiny af too lol
Just curious where you found the 21 ft lb torque spec for the oil drain plug? I’ve normally seen 30 ft lb for other Toyota metallic spin on filters.
I found that on a forum, but I think it is incorrect and should be 30ft/lb. I'll pin a comment to the top with this info.
