John -- Just a remarkable presentation: I am in the market for a pellet grill and the product you purchased is by far the most innovative I have seen to date. Your knowledge of the unit was impressive and although your selection of optional equipment is well beyond my allocation -- the foundation looks to be very solid. I didn't know of this offering, but without question it has been added to the top of my Short-List. Thank you so much for the effort. -- Joe
This grill definitely has the flaws found in other pellet grills covered. The cleanout feature and the wood chip feature are really nice features. Also, I think the pellet dump chute has a hook on it to hold a bucket handle. I think the vents on the back are what creates the convection inside the grill. Colder outside air enters the vents and being colder that air sinks and then gets heated. That air rises and more cooler outside air enters and sinks again. This creates the rolling effect inside the grill. At least that's my guess.
I'm excited to get your thoughts over time on this one. The ability to add wood chunks makes me very curious. Not that it should matter, but the fact that you bought it lends a lot more credibility to me.
Been eyeing this pellet smoker for a while, John. I always trust your product reviews so I really appreciate your take on it. I wondered if you've had any additional revelations over the last several months on the Woodwind Pro and what your thoughts are on the 36 over the 24. Do you have any regrets about not purchasing the 36?
I don't have any regrets about not buying the 36" simply because I don't often cook more than I can fit on this grill at once. I have other grill options if I need more space. There are two features on this grill I really love. The smoker box and the sidekick with its accessories. Those two things set this grill apart from everything else in the category. I think this is the best grill going at this price point.
@@ManCaveMeals Thanks, John. Appreciate it. Still mulling it all over. Love my KJ classic but man, a pellet makes easy and a little more grill space would be great for entertaining. Thanks again!
Sean did you go with 24 or 36? I've spent over a week watching and reading and I still can't decide if our family of 5 (3 kids under 10) should go 36 or 24. We do host family parties but I think I could get away with the 24 and use the extra savings on buying sidekick. Hmmm
@@DregGayton777 I bought the 36. We have 4 in our family but it’s nice to have the extra space for entertaining. I also like to make jerky so there’s room to spread out. I love it so far. I bought the griddle sidekick. I use it for fast cooks otherwise I have a 36 inch Blackstone. Already had the grill top from our camp chef explorer that we use when we go camping.
I still don't know about these pellet grills. However, I do like the idea of the flat top and the smoker box. Will be watching your cooks with this one.
The sidekick and it's accessories I showed in the video take care of the grilling portion of this cooker. There are no pellet grills, in my opinion, that excel at direct grilling. The ones that are marginally good at it are a pain in the ass to clean up when you are done. You have to clean those up rather thoroughly after each direct grilling session.
@@ManCaveMeals Perfect thanks for the reply. That helped me make my decision on what to replace my Masterbuilt gravity series 1050 with! I already have the big Joe 1 I think the classic 2 will be on my list now!
@@infusionset the mb does a pretty good job of searing and it makes a better flavor than any other smoker or grill I have ever used. Why do you wanna get rid of that?
@@ManCaveMeals I've had it 3 years now and it's great however it's rusting out and by next summer I'll need to order a bunch of parts and pretty much rebuild it (I'm in Ontario Canada). My Big Joe I've had so much longer and it still looks brand new!
Another great informative video. I'm likin' this grill but I also have the Weber Searwood on my mind. I just sold my Grilla OG and want to replace it with one of these two. There are features on both that I like. Rotisserie anyone? I do like the smokebox but I can add wood chunks by other means to the Weber. A lot to consider before committing to one or the other.
I'm sure you could but most folks don't wanna pack the rack that tightly because it limits the airflow around the meat. If you find yourself not wanting to cook one on the top and one on the bottom, i'd buy the larger version of the smoker.
@ManCaveMeals can you smoke 1 on top and 1 on bottom ok or would you recommend the larger one and putting 2 briskets on top? I'm so confused on 24 vs 36 size. :(
Thats about normal and it seems to be about normal for any pellet grill I have or have had in the past. Do you have one that heats up significantly faster than that?
@@ManCaveMeals No. Trying to do some research before buying. I noticed a couple pit boss that had the rapid ignite system that heat up under 10 minutes. I am leaning towards the unit you reviewed however. Thanks for you video & the reply.
Have you had any trouble with the flapper for smoker box. Mine was not aligned right and I’m having trouble getting it adjusted right. It actually pushes the housing above it around. Killin me. Cause smoker box is why I bought it 😱
This is the most comprehensive look at this grill I've seen. Thanks. I'm a new owner of this grill. No one has mentioned the hook for propane.
Thanks!
@@ManCaveMeals, I had no idea about the propane hook. I just called Camp Chef. They're putting me one in the mail. Thanks again.
@@ManCaveMeals, you have a new sub.

Few things I love already are the quad piece shelves inside and the ash clean out.
The ash cleanout is a huge benefit IMO.... its a no brainer.

You can do the same thing with pretty much any other pellet grill with the Smoke Daddy Inc Heavy D attachment.
@@lakorai2 you can hardly compare. For that smoke Daddy thing. You have remove every thing to the diffuser plate to ad some wood. What a pain.
@@lakorai2actually you cannot. I purchased the smoke daddy and it didn’t fit in my pellet grill, I had to send it back
Best review I’ve seen so far on the Woodwind Pro 24. Thinking of getting a pellet smoker and this is the one I’ve narrowed it down to.
John have you experienced a hot spot over the smoke box & did you find it a problem?

What's your opinion of smoke flavor on the Woodwind Pro vs the Lone Star pellet grill?
I like a lot of that, but I don't get the accessory grill box. Seems like it would make a mess of the Sidekick burner.
We will see. I have another camp chef propane stove that isn't particularly easy to keep clean but it works flawlessly
