I do love how there's a lore reason for his rework. He's breaking out of Targon's control and is now able to (literally) unleash his TRUE power directly.
he's not completely out yet. the grip on him loosened a bit after the death of pantheon. so he's a bit stronger now but not fully powered yet. but u're right in a sense.
i wouldn't say he was bad intentionally. riot wanted to make a quirky character and they did it. it just happen so that he's kinda unfun to play at times. there's no lore reason or whatsoever behind him being bad and this rework isn't supposed to mean much of anything. it's just how the lore is and the gameplay got updated that's all
As a previous Asol main, I'm still grieving at the loss of our stars. The current Asol is a lot simpler, and in some ways less unique, but I am at least happy they made him a battlemage like he used to be. Riot really screwed him up when they tried to push the burst mage hyper roamer style
I wished Riot tried to make his passive just connect to him, so he had no deadzone, and see how thay would work. Imo, that could be all that was needed to make him feel much better. I love new Asol a lot, but i am sad that a gameplay style is basi ally just gone now.
@EB-tr2ly I do play him in wild rift. That game is overall such an inferior experience, and mobile controls feel clunky. It scratches an itch, but it isn't the same.
If you think about it, ASol went from for the most passively letting his stars damaging enemies over time to him actively destroying his adversaries to show who’s boss.
or you could see it as him going from a cosmic god who doesn't need or want to deal with the mortals bothering him personally so he lets the celestial bodies orbiting him do the menial work for him to cosmic god that deals with even the slightest annoyance, like a mutated sewer rat, with his plannet destroying power. Now dont get me wrong thematicly new kit feels better than old, it feels like a kit THE star forger should have. But I loved the old kit and I dont think I can ever learn to like the new one. so basicly what I'm trying to say I feel like I've wasted my time getting 400k+ mastery points on a champ that got deleted cause people who didnt play him wanted friendlier kit for new players...
They sacrificed for a 60% present champ. Everyone loves new asol. No one that loved new asol and refuses to play new asol even plays league lol. Just loud casuals that riot doesn't care about, nor should they
@@onsetaugust what a hot take, no wonder why league is so toxic when you out here saying stuff like that when that definition of casual is certainly not the most correct.
As an OG asol main, part of the fun of learning him was his stars. Learning how to kite properly was both parts frustrating and exciting. This rework, however, is almost just as fun. The only issue is that he's even worse against his bad match ups. With old asol you at the very least had a stun and were always moving.
I'd argue he has fewer truly bad match ups now. Even if he can't use his combo on the enemy laner, at least he can farm for stacks instead. As long as your jungler plays around midlane, he outscales almost any other match up.
I'm curious if you think his old kit could've been salvaged if they gave him the ability to detonate Starsurge within his passive radius to give him an actual answer to champions diving on top of him
Reworking Aurelion Sol once again killed a champion I enjoyed for the sake of wider appeal. For as cumbersome as he was, for as cumbersome as any champion is, there's a dedicated fanbase that loves them for it.
You say the removal of the toggle stars did not kill him. But every main tells you that it did. And yes it did kill him for many players. The new rework is awesome and he still can deal lots of dps. But it could have also been just a new champ alongside Asol.
The only thing I'd really want changed in this rework would be a purely cosmetic one. Leaving him the orbiting stars (obviously reducing the range of the orbit to not draw too much attention) I think they're really cool and even if they're not part of his moveset anymore, it would be awesome to see three little stars dancing around him (maybe glowing stronger the more stardust you have). It could be like Aatrox's "wings" where you can turn them on and off.
i had him "only" at Mastery 5 but i played since he came out and im very happy that space drago getting some love. I miss the Stars but thats a trade i am more then ok with
How? He went from throwing out a literal expanding galaxy to purple breath. He used to have literal stars orbiting him. How does this make him seem “more” like a star forging dragon?
@@sasaki8765 Because throwing out a galaxy and having stars orbit him didn't have the impact that those things should have. New ASol dropping a meteor and summoning a black hole both feel significantly more impactful than the previous iteration, and if you're literally throwing around the cosmos you should be able to feel like you are.
As a sol main it's so weird trying to play the new sol. I personally loved how hard it was navigating fights even with the crazy amount of mobility in the game and having a melee dead zone. I even played him top with grasp but normal build. It is very hard and sometimes impossible in certain positions to navigate fights, but the damage and fun playstyle felt worth it for me. I miss the boops, but will learn this new sol. :')
@@cozyflannel1312 probably more accepted because I’m pretty sure the only major change to ASol was the gameplay, while pretty much everything about Oldtrox was replaced.
It’s undeniable that this version of Asol fits his fantasy better than the old one. Its also not a bad kit more or less. However, It does feel like a punch in the gut to anyone who took the time to learn his old kit. There is nothing like it in the game, and now my favorite champ no longer exists.
Veigar: I'm supposed to be THE stacking champion, but my stacking mechanic suck. Where's my augmented abilities? What the point of 1000 AP when my scaling suck? My best ability doesn't even scale, man.
I often take breaks from the game. I loved Aurelio from release and he was my go-to midlaner. I remember when they changed his W to automatically recall his stars closer to his body I thought my keyboard was broken- like the W wasn’t working Came back recently, took him mid, and got curb-stomped because I had never played this champion before :(
I absolutly adored old Asol. His gameplay didnt feel clucky or akward for me, it only felt unique and endering.I had such a blast playing him, pulling in games and testing my limits. It felt so rewarding to dominate games with him, to learn new strateis, perfect spacing. He was the reason i kept playing league. However now that he was reworked, he doesnt feel rewarding at all. You are basicly just a sitting duck in the first 15 minutes in the game. You dont win, bacause you are good, you win because you farmed minions. Being good at spacing doesnt mater as much anymore. All his charm and fun just faded off with this rework. Now he is just another basic hyper carry. Sadly there is no other champion like Asol anymore. Without him, league became bland and boring for me. I am still glad it made all of you happy, and that people are playing the narcis dragon more. R.I.P. Old Asol, you will be missed
It was a champion for very few. He was released when I started to play league and it was the most beautiful champion I ever saw. People told me not to buy it because it was very hard for someone Who starts. They were right and I bought him anyway. I could never use it. So sadly he remain in my collection, forgotten. He was the champ I adore but couldn't use. It felt sad that he was only for a very few good players, like some sort of elite champion. The rework gave me the possibility to play him finally :') I even have skins but I use him without them because I prefer him made of stars. I'm very thankful, but sad for the ones who made a Big effort to learn him
Aurelion was my favourite Champ BY FAR in League, and I genuinely thought of just giving up League when this rework came out. I get it, he wasn't popular, he was completely different, not"viable", but, sincerely, as someone who play's League to have fun, fuck that. In a meta where A-Sol was in complete torment due to assassins and gap closers, I was still having fun. I don't play ranked, never have, been playing League since season 2, so yeah, although I get it just makes me feel like League isn't "to have fun", but to be competitive, and just that, viability before fun, it's just frustrating sometimes. And on a different topic, if League is as toxic as it is, it's because of that, in my opinion, Riot prioritizing pro-play an competitiveness over casual play and fun and different playstyles like A-Sol. Just like I saw a few comments below, it's the Aatrox mains blight all over again. Anyways, love your videos, Vars, hope you're doing well and greetings from Brazil.
As an OG asol one trick, I really miss the stars lol. I don’t feel like the stars were encumbering, but it definitely took me a while to feel that way. Like 150k points a while. So I get why that’s not appealing from a general standpoint but it was fun for me lol
The main issue I have with newer champs is that, for the most part, they simply do things other champs do, but better. Just look at how Vars describes A-Sol's new abilities; Q is Vel'koz ult but better, E is Rell ult but better, etc. Old A-Sol was clunky and frustrating to play, but it was incomparable. I'm not saying it would've been better to keep him the same. Like Vars said, no one was playing him in part BECAUSE of how unique he was, but Riot's tendency to coble champs together from the best parts of others is frustrating to me personally.
Lol no, Vel R is still better with far greater range. All they needto do if they want to buff it is to increase its range even more and reduce its CD but that's it.
I was an Old Akali main, the time when gunblade existed. Her rework was a complete 180 in terms of difficulty, as I played Akali because she was on the easy side. Now she's one of the harder champions to execute, but more players since then. It's sad finding a champion whose style you like getting reworked, but it is what it is.
ASol was my favorite and main. I’m sure all the not ASol players love the rework, but I’m still reeling and bitter about removing his orbitals. They were his identity and what made me love him. I’m sure I can enjoy his new iteration but they more or less killed what I liked best about him. Regardless of any quirk or clunk tbh
R.I.P. Spaceballs, you would surely be missed. 😟 I still feel conflicted with his new Q fr, and his new W isn't helping, it looks clunky, for my liking at least. But yeah, now I understand what Oldtrox mains felt when Aatrox got reworked. 💔
Old kit was purely "annoyed Cosmic GOD effortlessly dealing with nuisances" and we LOVED IT. Lack of mobile playstyle just made its bad matchups even worse. Good luck trying to trade while standing still against opponents who can simply jump on you and fuck you up. And what the fuck is the point in having the being most representative of the Cosmos staying fucking STILL? Nothing in the entirety of the Universe stays still, another sad design failure. Look, they changed the entire champion to appeal to a broader public, the same people who will drop him the moment they tone down his numbers (the kit is boring as fuck), basically just fucking up those players that fell in love with the niche that only this champion covered. To US Aurelion Sol is dead just so you guys have a new toy you will eventually toss aside. You don't need everyone to play everything. Sincerely, Riot Games, GC.
I miss them, but I also missed the old Q E and R. Making huge stars, and learning to farm minions with the stars either when using the large version or the tiny orbs with auto attacks was satisfying to me.
Not a lot of people noticed but I just want to point out the difference between the stun of his ult vs the knock up of his upgraded ult. Stun durations can be shortened by tenacity while airborne cannot, and stuns can be removed entirely by cleanse while airborne can only be "dealt with" by combining QSS and a dashing or blinking ability. So when he hits his upgraded ult, it is almost guaranteed that the victims will stay there for 1.25s. Not a lot but can get a lot done.
I know that hes more playable now and better for a offensive playstyle, but his original moveset was so unique because you were literally taking the enemy appart without even touching them. And i see the learning curve is sharp but it is very rewarding and if they gonna sacrifice champions unique abilities in exchange of having more players then what makes him any worth playing if i cmn have what he has with other characters?
As an asol player since release, i am both sad and happy. New asol is fun, but they removed the unique playstyle he used to have, which i enjoyed a lot. Being able to space well enough to win any matchup. His E made him broken, if they just reworked his E to not have his entire power budget i feel like he would be played more.
What sold me on the rework is that I did a drive-by kill steal on top lane. 10/10 would do it again. Also, the resets on W gives you that power fantasy of being a dragon breathing fire while flying. Imagine pressing E+R on a clump of enemies then pressing W+Q to get one kill then another W+Q, then another, then another.
as a former aurelion sol one trick I don't really hate the new sol but it's sad how they throw away the champion and made him a typical mage , he doesn't really suit the playstyle i developed playing old sol tho but I am happy to see new players are finding success playing him tho . (i do love the storm dragon lee sin on the ult easter egg tho )
I used to main Asol a long time ago when he was first released and I liked him, even after I stopped maining him. Then they reworked his w, and it totally and completely ruined the champ for me. While I recognize that it did not change "that" much, it still changed way too much, as it essentially changed how the champion played as a whole, from my perspective anyways. So I basically completely stopped playing the champion for multiple years and seasons. Ofc. I am not ignorant of the problems the old gameplay had and introduced to the game, as it probably took away a lot of skill expression from lane management. Tbh. I wouldn't know how to fix that and keep the old playstyle. I was honestly looking forward a lot to the new rework, but after having played it a little bit and seen others play it. I just honestly really don't like it. I honestly really really dislike his new Q, as it requires you to stay completely still and channel a spell, while a fighter or an assasin is right in melee range. Honestly it just feels fucking shit. I know that you can use w while channeling Q, but that too feels awkward and "scripted". His E feels weird with the new kit. I don't really have anything bad to say about the E, besides I don't feel like it fits the playstyle of his Q or W at all. Maybe if he had his old Q, a new W and his new reworked E, maybe it would be fun to be an actual starforger who could run around, creating stars and solar systems etc??? Idk just ideas that popped into my head. In regards to his new R, I guess I have the same feeling like his E, I think it's fine thematically, but I just don't feel like it fits his new Q and W. I like the fact that he's a scaling champion that becomes stronger over time, like Kayle. I think it fits really well. I just really don't like the way that they did it. I understand that not everyone shares my oppinion, and that's okay! We're all different people with different ideas and perspectives. I just know I don't like the new rework and won't play it. But if you like the new rework, good for you! Have a nice day :D
I share the same sentiment with u, don't worry. Seeing his skill teasers, I was actually okay with the skillset. But when it got shipped and realized how stationary his dragon breath was, even with the aid of his W, (which didn't feel right at all, it looks clunky if you'd ask me) I felt conflicted right away. His hit-and-run playstyle is what drawn me to his kit, it feels so fun to kite as I gather speed with Ghost and other items, but now... 🥺 So yeah, it really feels like I'm whining at this point, like a privileged whiner, AuSol deserve the love from a bigger fanbase, but honestly, I don't think I'll appreciate his new kit now, maybe I'll try to use it once in a while, just to learn it. But adoration for his kit? Nah. Ion't think so.
I share your idea as well, totally. They could have fixed him in other ways (like a simple buff as they usually do) but they decided to give him the coupe de grace. For me he is now just a super flashy trap in the form of a generic floating snake. He had his problems yes but, first of all assassins can kill ANY champion, asol was just another victim of the almost more broken class in the game, secondly...he could still do quadras and pentakills. Just...people being weaklings towards him
Someday, they'll all see I hope. It's very intriguing what some scaling, a "spectacular" ult and some grossly bloated numbers can do to a playerbase's perception of a champ. In my opinion, the only + the new Asol has is his ult, the rest is just Cassiopea
I feel like they could’ve kept his stars, made them a W toggle, gave his Q the same mechanic as his new E where the Q grows but it also has a kinetics, deals continious damage and he can explode it to deal damage based on the size (without the stun maybe), make his E the same as new W And change his ult with the new one. This way he could’ve been interesting, true to his self, kept his stars AND fun to play with his mighthy space dragon fantasy. Like, way before his rework, I was talking to my bf about how they didn’t rework Asol to give his Q a kinetics, just like Rell ult. He brings out a Star with it’s entire gravity and orbit and all
That's exactly the same thing i was suggesting, his new W E and R fit his old W better even i think Also his old kit was feeling empty because what basically was 1 ability was spread between both passive and W instead of just being on his W having both passive side and active side
Sadly for me the Aurelion Sol rework is problematic for a very unusual reason. The Falling Star ultimate has a large aftershock wave. Sadly, they added a screen shake to the wave which makes me physically ill. Here's hoping they give us an option to "remove screen shake" in the Options menu.
I have a special connection to Asol, he came out on my birthday in 2016, and i desperate couldn't play him right yet I loved the lore, thematic, and voice lines. Everything about him but his gameplay appealed to me, until now. I can finally play him and enjoy him
Man I made a similar comment!!! Aurelion came out the same week I started to play league. He was the most beautiful, everyone told me not to buy it because it was very difficult to start. I bought him anyway and couldn't use him until now, Im so happy!
His new kit actually has a lot of elements in common with his old kit, despite being completely reshuffled. His W + Q combo means that he can still deal slow, heavy damage over time while flying toward or away from an enemy, which is how he used to do damage. He still aims to remain at a roughly fixed distance from enemies, and is still vulnerable to melee burst although he is no longer completely unable to fight back.
He was able to fight back if you played him right, now the only way to fight back is to Q, W if they don't have the slightest form of cc because THEY MADE A CONTROL MAGE HAVE TO STAND STILL FOR HIS MAIN ABILITY
Although ASol's new kit is way better and more cohesive, I lowkey wish Riot stuck to the orbiting balls idea and made it work. Maybe Celestial Expansion could have pulled the stars towards him to deal damage, then expand back out to deal damage again or something like that.
I believe the very first version of Asol had the stars be a toggle and that meant he just stood there, killed all minions, and then stood back which was terrible to play againsy
8:30 this is completely wrong, losing his toggle made his extremely weaker. You could play max range on him like any other mage, but gating it with a cooldown forces him to overextend for no reason. You don't need to be an Asol main to understand how much this affects him. His zoning, spacing, dps, all got hit hard by this one change. Now you have an awkward delay in your dps
As an old Asol Main i find the reworked asol gameplay very limited and boring to play. They sacrificed a mobile battlemage with the need for skillful positioning, for a braindead Inferno Turret from Clash of Clans...
New Aurelion Sol's kit is pretty well made and really fun to play but I hate how it came at the sacrifice of such a unique kit. I think it doesn't matter how much the meta counter OG Aurelion Sol his OG kit should still be in the game because of how unique and fun he was to play once you learned him. We have 160+ champions in the game to pick from surely we can have both forms of him, pick rates be damned.
His rework was laziest shit I've seen They threw away what made him unique Easy fix: keep his starts, change 2 other abilities. Passive+ ultimate interaction is fun stardust empowering his ult now different feels good, keep his new ability hlackhole, make him a zoner, even if someone gets in his dead zone now he has all tools necessary to defend himself, new ult new blackhole and quick flight to escape. Why sacrifice what made aurelion sol aurelion sol to begin with
It gets really frustrating/annoying when any time they do a rework like this, that suddenly so many people who loved the "old" version of the champion come out of the woodwork. I think this is a amazing change to a champion that deserved so much more than whatever weird ass kit he had. Amazing character, lore, personality, everything. Yes, it needs some tweaking and probably some nerfs, but this is one of the coolest reworks they've ever done.
@@kr4ftt Here's the thing, I don't blame people for missing old champions, I really don't. I wish I could have played League earlier and saw all the shit like old Urgot, Sion, etc. But like I've seen more than a few people that suddenly really liked old A-Sol only now that he's gone. But you do, man, you like what you like
It took me a while to figure out why I hate singularity so much as a part of his kit thematically. It’s a black hole which Asol SHOULDN’T HAVE. Basically black holes are the corpses of dead stars. Arelion Sol is supposed to be the Star-Forger ie creating new young stars. His abilities should revolve around the characteristics of younger stars not the corpse of a star long dead.
I always wanted a champ that really felt like a dragon. It wasn't really the case with old Asol and current shyvanna. I really like his new kit, you really feel powerful in lage game wich wasn't really the case with old asol in my opinion
@@SuperCharizardFan1000 no game design reason to do that. Why bother making skins for champs no one plays if you were to make a new one? Times change and champs change too.
@@NotSoSerious69420Why make an unique kit to just make it super easy to play then? On a 100+ gallery shouldn't be champs that require more skill and have an unique kit?
@@idk-ye7ur there are, plenty of them actually. A lot of champs are pretty unique in what they do even if they’re an abomination of abilities from other kits. New sol has abilities that are kind of like other abilities but none of them are really the same as others. His old kit wasn’t conducive to getting people to play him. Was hard to learn and for learning you didn’t get a super strong champ you got a on par champ that lost to anything that could get close and stay close to you for long enough. He wasn’t a bad champ before but his barrier to entry to have a good time with him was too high for most people. I don’t know of a single other champ that took nearly as many games to understand how to play him as he did. I played 20-30 games with him the week before rework and while I wasn’t great at him I understood his kit but that only really came near the end of those games. Most, if not all, other champs you can look at the abilities look at the build order and know fairly well how to use the champ in a handful of games. He wasn’t bad he just was so painfully mediocre for the grind to learn his kit it just wasn’t worth the time.
why not just make a new champ? why ruin the old ASol? They could've made a Sun light champ or something along those lines?.. with this new kit? and keep old Asol
I have always thought that Aurelian Sol’s old gameplay was super interesting, but boy am I glad that it’s no longer on him. This sells his world ending power so much better.
While I like what they did with him, it does feel like they could have tried a bit harder to make the old version feel better. For example, they could have tried(instead of removing the toggle on his w) swapping his q and r, or maybe adding a slow to enemies within his minimum range. They could also have added a toggle to his passive that allowed him to hide his stars when out of combat. Any or all of these changes would have been massively beneficial to his playability, be it moving his only real source of disengage out of his ultimate, adding passive disengage to his passive, or removing the clunkiest part of playing the champion.
How about: The stars can take any ranges from 0 to up to star expansion, replacing auto attacks, star ranges now follows the cursor's distance to the character ( stopping at max range) Add abilities to accelerate the stars, ( maybe reverse them ?), a big laser that places the enemies at the star's range ( both grab and push maybe ?)... That's Asol. But more practical.
@@kosmique It doesn't need to make sense, it just needs to be good gameplay... plus I can 100% see Asol taking a star, throwing it the other way around on a shorter radius to swap the way the stars go. That would be a Star forger ability!
This video aged like milk, same for the rework... Talk about reworking the most unique champion of your game into a mess of a character that's even harder to balance, Riot game seal of quality decisions on this.
i'm an Aurelion Sol otp since S6, I satrted playing him because of the uniqueness of his kit and because of his low popularity which i thought was cool (still do, call me a gatekeeper I son't care). I collected 1.8 million mastery points on him and to see all the hardwork that i've put into learning his playstyle go down the drain is so sad to me. Don't get me wrong the new kit is absolutely fantastic, I just wish they would have released it in the form of a new champ. Why pretty much delete a champ just because he has a low player base? The people who actually played him genuinely enjoyed his kit and were willing to put in the work, so why sacrifice that for the sake of poularity?
I'm with you on this, leading up to his rework I almost exclusively played him and loved it. He had a clearly defined weakness WHICH SHOULD BE A GOOD THING as well as a sky high skill ceiling due to his need to properly position. They traded his skill for a damn stack mechanic. New asol "outplays" come down to pure numbers if they don't have cc pretty much. You press W and Q and that's it. You sail in a straight line and press a button woohoo
Having those people be proud and ping you as you obliterate 5 people with your orbiting stars, ugh, it feels so euphoric, (coz almost no one knows how he properly operates) I'm going to miss how it feels 😔
I main Aurelion Sol, and the rework changed my playstyle. It used to be using ludens and the crystal scepter with Swifty's or mercs, anything to be quick, move around to make spacing and position. I used to do very well
Toggle Asol wasn't the one that killed him in terms of viability because even if they did return the toggle he would still have the melee dead zone but when toggle was removed it was his playability and fun was removed that's why it killed him.
Really think they could have balanced the first instance of Asol ( the one with the toggle, forever W) was increasing the hell out of mana cost of W early, with a mana refund per ball that hits a champion. This would have gated his early push and roam as he would have to choose to push hard and not have any mana to roam or just keep his balls in and not be able to push as hard. I think E should have been changed to a mana cost toggle where he then builds up Ms over time rather than just the passive ability. This would also gate his roams where he would be punished if the roam fails. The original rework failed because the power budget in E was WAY to high and the continuous balls in and out were an issue for players
It was 100% not necessary to get rid of his identity. The fact that Aurelion Sol players were playing Aurelion Sol is absolutely enough. If they wanted his new kit in the game, they could just make a new champion instead of deleting an old one.
@@vrmax1919 thats what most people thing but they dont realize that he was a really good supp. Aoe hard cc, insane roaming and neutral game, high dps and lane control. Definetly not a S tier champ but would put him below A
They shouldve just made his rotating stars retractible and expandable but the catch is that the range it has is relative to the strength output. If it is farther it hits weaker and since the radius is bigger, the stars are slower; but if it is nearer to him then it hits stronger and faster. It's like a gravitational pull if you think abt it and that fits his theme so much better without removing his uniqueness.
it no just his "theme" he basically cheat laning phase just shove with your star and gank bot or top lv2. And also having him able to actually win melee trade plus range trade mean that he will get nerf even harder do you want to literally do 0 danage?
While I like the new kit far better than the old one, I can't help but miss being able to fly in with a stun larger than the lane and burn flashes left and right.
Your music taste for the background music is amazing. It's really rare to find anyone who uses Pokemon Mystery Dungeon OST. Temporal Tower is an amazing choice given the champion your explaining in the video. You´re amazing :)
I actually tried to come up with a rework for him myself. In order to fulfill the fantasy of a dragon that can create (and destroy!) literal galaxies, I would have implemented an upgrade system for his stars: Passive: For each enemy hit, Asols stars gain a stack of "mass", increasing their damage with each stack. Every x stacks of "mass", his stars gain a major upgrade like extra speed, an additional star or extra size. Q: Instead of launching his old projectile, Asols new Q would instead launch *his stars* . They would land somewhere and stay there to form a star system of their own, still dealing damage to enemies. Additionally, enemies trying to walk away from the solar system are slowed (gravity). I haven worked out a concept for W and E (yet), but for his ultimate, he would then detonate the solar system into a super nova, dealing massive damage that scales with the number of mass-stacks he used to create the solar system.
As someone who doesn't play league all that often but still managed to get mastery 4 almost 5 on old Asol im kinda disheartened at his rework. I love that people are playing him now and he's still the same cocky arrogant dragon as before but the gameplay just isn't there for me anymore. The old gameplay was just so unique in a game of immobile mages that existed to either nuke the enemy team or stand still and die. Too many people just focus on meta or simple champs that give fast rewards to really appreciate the satisfaction of learning how to completely kite an enemy while melting them with the stars. I wasn't really around for the old Aatrox rework but I know how you guys feel now it sucks.
“Be useful. Be stardust. I’ll help.” - Aurelion Sol 😂 This is all I think when I see that his passive collects stardust to make him stronger on by damaging enemies.
I think they missed the mark on what made Asol the iconic dragon we know and love. They removed the fluidity of him constantly being on the move, and while I do enjoy zipping all over the place with his new w, I just don't feel like positioning is as important to him anymore. Also it seems a bit lazy just copy pasting vel'koz r - passive dynamic on to his q rather than coming up with a new one that allows for fluidity.
Its funny how Riot pulled a Sonic Frontiers by leaving an absolutely atrocious first impression with that dragon breath ability reveal, obliterating the hopes of Aurelion Sol players everywhere and leaving the player base to fester until closer to release where we got a better look and most people went "Wait a minute this looks pretty cool"
Maybe that’s just a new way to get negative hype; make something stupid as hell, everyone gets sad, make that stupid shit godlike, then everyone is like “oh wait, let em cook”.
I liked old Asol even though he was a little weird to play. I also like the new one but he is too strong. I expect him to get some serious nerfs and to loose some effect like being able to cast E while in his W. Q feels super clunky but the range is so long that it make up for that. And being able to do a Q drive by while flying with W is totally badass! Btw i also like new swain. The old one's passive always made my Veigar teammates mad when i accidentally pulled stunned people out of his skillshots.
Its always a pity when something unique its changed to something more generic for mass appeal, especially in a game with +140 champions... I'm sure there is room for niche champions with "strange" mechanics. The best example were the old Tom Raider games, I was never a big fan due to lack of replayability and the slowish pace of the games, but they were the only AAA game with "puzzle scenarios" where the whole room and how to move trough it were the puzzle. Then they changed that for an action game, a good one, but ANOTHER action game. This is pretty much the same.
I still think it's amazing. He was really made into the star forger cosmic dragon that he was meant to be. Before he felt more like a star manipulator at best. Not to mention his Ultimate which I often joked around with friends that he sneezes at people. And his E which felt like a complete joke, where even brushing up against a wrong tree could cancel it out and its only real use was to build up the Q
I really feel like they chose "Rule of Cool" over his actual lore for the rework. Which sucks, because being hilariously powerful was already in his design from the beginning. Being able to make stars with his bare hands and have them orbit HIM? Like, there's not much cooler. And I always thought it was so incredible that they made him a dragon who didn't fight like a dragon. He makes actual full sized stars, so it makes sense that he would use those powers to fight. The only dragony things he did was fly around, which isn't especially dragony since he's a space creature, and his ult, which felt like such a unique version of dragon breath. But no, now he's Veigar. I genuinely think his new ult is wonderful, and kinda wish they had just put that on his old kit somehow, and the fact that his stacks are him gathering stardust to make more and bigger stars is fantastic, but it actually feels like his new kit would've been a good Veigar rework (which he desperately needs, at least visually). Infinite passive stacks, a big powerful AoE that falls from the sky, and a big CC ability in the form of a black hole (Veigar's stun is literally called "Event Horizon")? Like seriously, just keep Veigar's q and find something for him to do other than fly, and it's just Veigar. They basically just gave Veigar a much needed rework, but they replaced Aurelion Sol instead and left the old Veigar in the game. Not to mention the fact that we've never been given reason to believe that Aurelion Sol can, or at least ever would, make black holes? Like, it's reasonable that he could given that they come from stars, but he loves all of his creations so much that it hurts him when they die out. Black holes feel like they go against everything he wants, in that his biggest and brightest creations take others with them when they go. Plus, I don't think that a black hole would be an effective way to gather stardust. It's not like it's just gonna feed the remains of what it destroys directly into Aurelion's hands, there'd need to actually BE something left. And all this is besides the fact that I thought he was an absolute joy to play beforehand, and it just feels like a chore to play him now. I feel his unique kit was by far the biggest strength he had as a champion, and now it's just gone. Him being better(?) and people playing him more does not make up for the fact that they took all the things that made him unique and almost literally threw them in a black hole. TLDR; Riot took by far one of their most unique champions and made him so similar to Veigar that it's faster for me to list out the differences than the similarities. I absolutely hate it, I never want to play this champion again with his new kit, and his new ult feels like the only saving grace of this debacle. I'd rather they just delete him from the game than turn him into this nonsense.
I feel like they made asol the right amount of dragon descending and breathing fire, and the right amount of cocky star god. I love this rework so far 😂
@@mimic3872 oh, that ult was terrible indeed, but at least non of his abilities looked close enough to dark star thresh's lantern to confuse players in fights
As someone who spent a lot of time with A Sol’s old kit, and got used to how effective it could be when used well, I know it will take some time getting used to the new a Sol. But honestly it does sound like they managed to capture something more acceptable for him in the current game state. Especially since he had weird issues like how he felt as though he basically didn’t have a passive, and his Q E combo felt more like an ult than his ult ever did.
Hell yeah A Sol! I really liked the original kit, but the shift to hyper-scaling makes sense with the thematic and the new ult is amazing when fully charged. If it means he sees more play, I'm all for it.
Except hyperscaling wasn't incompatible with his old kit, and it won't necessarily mean he will be more played, do people actually believe they're gonna let a champ with vel'koz ult as Q spell and an execute as E roll around freely?

So... He was this bad for a reason ?
I agree that why in love that trailer
@@moonsar1673 ofc. Him being bad in league was a feature :)
i wouldn't say he was bad intentionally. riot wanted to make a quirky character and they did it. it just happen so that he's kinda unfun to play at times. there's no lore reason or whatsoever behind him being bad and this rework isn't supposed to mean much of anything. it's just how the lore is and the gameplay got updated that's all
As a previous Asol main, I'm still grieving at the loss of our stars. The current Asol is a lot simpler, and in some ways less unique, but I am at least happy they made him a battlemage like he used to be. Riot really screwed him up when they tried to push the burst mage hyper roamer style

As an old Aurelion sol player. I miss the old Asol. This makes me understand how aatrox players felt when they reworked him.
I wished Riot tried to make his passive just connect to him, so he had no deadzone, and see how thay would work. Imo, that could be all that was needed to make him feel much better.
I love new Asol a lot, but i am sad that a gameplay style is basi ally just gone now.
I mean yeah that would have been good change and would have kept his gameplay intact.

@EB-tr2ly I do play him in wild rift. That game is overall such an inferior experience, and mobile controls feel clunky. It scratches an itch, but it isn't the same.
i played old aatrox and old Asol. my pain is infinite
If you think about it, ASol went from for the most passively letting his stars damaging enemies over time to him actively destroying his adversaries to show who’s boss.
ASol: Feels the smallest slip of Targon's grip. Decides it's time to show them why he's known as the Star Forger.
or you could see it as him going from a cosmic god who doesn't need or want to deal with the mortals bothering him personally so he lets the celestial bodies orbiting him do the menial work for him to cosmic god that deals with even the slightest annoyance, like a mutated sewer rat, with his plannet destroying power.
Now dont get me wrong thematicly new kit feels better than old, it feels like a kit THE star forger should have. But I loved the old kit and I dont think I can ever learn to like the new one.

The only thing I'd really want changed in this rework would be a purely cosmetic one. Leaving him the orbiting stars (obviously reducing the range of the orbit to not draw too much attention)
I think they're really cool and even if they're not part of his moveset anymore, it would be awesome to see three little stars dancing around him (maybe glowing stronger the more stardust you have).
It could be like Aatrox's "wings" where you can turn them on and off.
Maybe twirling down his body, from the head, and then twinkling off towards the tail, growing more frequent the more stacks you had?

@@sasaki8765 Because throwing out a galaxy and having stars orbit him didn't have the impact that those things should have. I often take breaks from the game. I loved Aurelio from release and he was my go-to midlaner. I remember when they changed his W to automatically recall his stars closer to his body I thought my keyboard was broken- like the W wasn’t working
Came back recently, took him mid, and got curb-stomped because I had never played this champion before :(
I absolutly adored old Asol.
The only “bad” thing that I can tell about the rework is that they should had kept the stars orbiting him, but just as a VFX. They were iconic.
He's just going to be dragon Veigar now, complete with almost the same amount of skill expression
True. Also, E and R feels too identical for my liking, maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's kinda uninspired for the lack of word. 😆

I still feel conflicted with his new Q fr, and his new W isn't helping, it looks clunky, for my liking at least. But yeah, now I understand what Oldtrox mains felt when Aatrox got reworked. 💔
It feels like riots idea of reworking a champion is just giving it some kind of late game stack based passive
For all the good this did asol I do truly feel for the poor few who stuck through and mastered those janky stars.
Not a lot but can get a lot done.
they shuold have left ASol as he was and just add this kit as a new champion in the form of his hastier brother on a slimmer, more serpentine figure.
2M ASol (retired) OTP here. I can't forgive riot for removing stars, this is just depressing for me
As an asol player since release, i am both sad and happy. New asol is fun, but they removed the unique playstyle he used to have, which i enjoyed a lot. Being able to space well enough to win any matchup.
His E made him broken, if they just reworked his E to not have his entire power budget i feel like he would be played more.
Old ASol is still in the Wild Rift by the way. If you miss it you can still play him there, it's something
I really like the mechanics of Asol when he has 3 orbs around him 😢
What sold me on the rework is that I did a drive-by kill steal on top lane.
This is my problem as well. He went from potentially the most free form positioning dependent kit in the game to a scripted skill chainer
So yeah, it really feels like I'm whining at this point, like a privileged whiner, AuSol deserve the love from a bigger fanbase, but honestly, I don't think I'll appreciate his new kit now, maybe I'll try to use it once in a while, just to learn it.
In my opinion, the only + the new Asol has is his ult, the rest is just Cassiopea
all he needed was an execute on the outer zone of his ult not a rework :(
I feel like they could’ve kept his stars, made them a W toggle, gave his Q the same mechanic as his new E where the Q grows but it also has a kinetics, deals continious damage and he can explode it to deal damage based on the size (without the stun maybe), make his E the same as new W
And change his ult with the new one.
This way he could’ve been interesting, true to his self, kept his stars AND fun to play with his mighthy space dragon fantasy.
Like, way before his rework, I was talking to my bf about how they didn’t rework Asol to give his Q a kinetics, just like Rell ult. He brings out a Star with it’s entire gravity and orbit and all
That's exactly the same thing i was suggesting, his new W E and R fit his old W better even i think
Also his old kit was feeling empty because what basically was 1 ability was spread between both passive and W instead of just being on his W having both passive side and active side
That screen shake happens when someone kills a dragon too, I find it very annoying as well
I have a special connection to Asol, he came out on my birthday in 2016, and i desperate couldn't play him right yet I loved the lore, thematic, and voice lines.
VARS straight up put in the title that this ain’t the space dragon no more
His new kit actually has a lot of elements in common with his old kit, despite being completely reshuffled.
@@ethanstyant9704 lol, i don't know why you're the first one I see to bring this up.
i'm just imagining an alternate universe where they borrowed DOTA2's Wisp's mechanic for the stars instead of scrapping it entirely
Why you gotta bring up Swain’s rework? I managed to bury the memory of how they massacred my boy until you went and reminded me.
My god aurelion sol released 7 years ago and i still call him a “new champion”
I agree, now instead of the unique battle and zoner mage we have Veigar but as a dragon
His rework was laziest shit I've seen
They threw away what made him unique
Easy fix: keep his starts, change 2 other abilities. Passive+ ultimate interaction is fun stardust empowering his ult now different feels good, keep his new ability hlackhole, make him a zoner, even if someone gets in his dead zone now he has all tools necessary to defend himself, new ult new blackhole and quick flight to escape. Why sacrifice what made aurelion sol aurelion sol to begin with
I personally hate how they changed him from a hyper mobile mage to a stat checky self rooting mage.
Complete assassination of his original playstyle
It gets really frustrating/annoying when any time they do a rework like this, that suddenly so many people who loved the "old" version of the champion come out of the woodwork. I think this is a amazing change to a champion that deserved so much more than whatever weird ass kit he had. Amazing character, lore, personality, everything. Yes, it needs some tweaking and probably some nerfs, but this is one of the coolest reworks they've ever done.
I still miss old Urgot, fight me
@@kr4ftt Here's the thing, I don't blame people for missing old champions, I really don't. I wish I could have played League earlier and saw all the shit like old Urgot, Sion, etc. But like I've seen more than a few people that suddenly really liked old A-Sol only now that he's gone. But you do, man, you like what you like
The comment above mine is NOT VARS PLEASE DON'T CLICK IT, it's spam!
At least I can play old A Sol in wild rift…
now not only can he spit fire emotional damage, but actual damage
Man, I miss old asol, new one is just damage stick, like literally just one more battlemage
It wasn’t the problem with Asol that he had a dead zone… It was the game itself with all these dashes that was the problem. It still is
I always wanted a champ that really felt like a dragon.
It wasn't really the case with old Asol and current shyvanna.
I really like his new kit, you really feel powerful in lage game wich wasn't really the case with old asol in my opinion
OG asol felt good. The rework made it feel less so as the balls being continuously brought in and out made no sense
Yea but its not Asol anymore. They could have left him the way he was and released a new champ with that new kit.
He's even picked less than he was, with lower winrate too.
why not just make a new champ? why ruin the old ASol?
How about: The stars can take any ranges from 0 to up to star expansion, replacing auto attacks, star ranges now follows the cursor's distance to the character ( stopping at max range)
Add abilities to accelerate the stars, ( maybe reverse them ?), a big laser that places the enemies at the star's range ( both grab and push maybe ?)...
I just hope he says “boop” sometimes when he ults
i'm an Aurelion Sol otp since S6, I satrted playing him because of the uniqueness of his kit and because of his low popularity which i thought was cool (still do, call me a gatekeeper I son't care).
The only thing I don't like is that he's far easier to play now. I loved old ASol for how high his skill ceiling was.
This has got to be League's most pointless rework yet
Skarner, Nocturne, Trynadamere, and Zilean were all literally right there
I main Aurelion Sol, and the rework changed my playstyle.
They took his balls away.
It was 100% not necessary to get rid of his identity. The fact that Aurelion Sol players were playing Aurelion Sol is absolutely enough. If they wanted his new kit in the game, they could just make a new champion instead of deleting an old one.
There!
I already miss the old asol... supporting with him was such a unique role/playstyle that noone else could replicate :/
Support mages are fun too though imo
As long as you are on the enemy team ill gladly take the free lp lol
@@nailinthefashion yeah man love them :D try ziggs supp :D its disgustingly op but somehow noone is playing it

Twas fun indeed
Old ASol is still in the Wild Rift by the way. If you miss it you can still play him there, it's something
Your music taste for the background music is amazing. It's really rare to find anyone who uses Pokemon Mystery Dungeon OST. Temporal Tower is an amazing choice given the champion your explaining in the video. You´re amazing :)
I actually tried to come up with a rework for him myself. In order to fulfill the fantasy of a dragon that can create (and destroy!) literal galaxies, I would have implemented an upgrade system for his stars:
Passive: For each enemy hit, Asols stars gain a stack of "mass", increasing their damage with each stack.
I haven worked out a concept for W and E (yet), but for his ultimate, he would then detonate the solar system into a super nova, dealing massive damage that scales with the number of mass-stacks he used to create the solar system.
sounds like orianna
"hol up, let em cook"
I hope we get a champion next year with a better fixed version of Asols gimmick

1:52 yes that absolutely says 60,000 dollars and not 60,00 dollars
An Italian streamer I follow was a big Aurelion Sol main (master/grandmaster). Now he said he will stop playing league because the reason he was having fun in LoL is gone
So what’s your point? A big streamer leaving league doesn’t negate the fact that this rework is good.
