    A Stephen King tier tanking would be fun. I enjoyed this video too. It was fun seeing your views of these books.
    Ooh maybe you can do a tier ranking for Old School April next year.

    This was a great video and now my tbr is just stuffed with vintage horror lol. Would love to see you do this but for King novels like you suggested that would be super fun.

    Great vid - you might enjoy Wulf by Steve Harris (it was a random coming of age type read and I really enjoyed it), also Blood Games by Richard Laymon is never really mentioned on booktube but thought it was great. Love the tier ranking, lot's of great rec's, thanks!

      I think I own that Steve Harris book! I'll put it on my potential TBR!!! Oh! And I will have to check out Blood Games! Thank you so much for the recs and for watching!

    Of course Gnelfs is top tier for you 😂 I haven’t read any of these except the exorcist, the pack, jaws, and the amulet. This video was epic! As I was watching, I had an idea for a future video concept if it interests you - “paperbacks from hell book recommendations for beginners” because I notice you having to give a lot of warnings or caveats about the subject matter for many of these. Could be nice to have a video for vintage horror newbies to find their footing!

    Was surprised you were so hard on Funland and Body Rides. Neither are among my favourite Laymon's, but I found both to be highly enjoyable.

    • @SlimeAndSlashers
      @SlimeAndSlashers  25 днів тому

      I just found Body Rides kind of boring and tedious. Funland was definitely better but still just not the level of enjoyment of other Laymon books I've loved. Too many characters I didn't care about in Funland. It's totally cool if you love them; they just weren't my personal faves. Overall, though, I usually have fun with most Laymon reads! :)

    This really makes me want to read more vintage horror! I added more Richard Laymon to my TBR after reading The Woods Are Dark haha. I need more rumps and nipples in my life apparently 🤷

    Flowers in the Attic and would definitely be top tear for me, too.
    I actually like Rosemary's Baby better than The Exorcist (though for the film adaptations, it's the reverse).
    Excellent ranking! I really need to read more vintage horror.

    I think Ghost Story by Peter Straub should be in the top tier. I'm currently reading The Light At The End by John Skipp and Craig Spector. I'm loving it so far.

    Girl I messaged that guy about a book I read and crickets. It’ll probably be a splatterpunk/possession small town horror. It’s driving me nuts. I thought I it was ghouls by Edward Lee but 😑😑😑

    I'm surprised that Let's Go Play... , which in another video you rated as the #1 most disturbing book you had read thus far, that in this video it get's placed in the next to lowest category. I think LGPatA is a underrated and misunderstood book. I tried to add an update on Wikipedia's article on the Sylvia Likens true crime case in the section of fiction based on the case and in a couple days the update was removed. I was told that there is no solid evidence that Mendal Johnson was inspired by the true crime case when writing LGPatA. So I wish that reviewers would stop repeating the apparent false claim that it was. (Illusory truth effect?)

    • @henrytjernlund
      @henrytjernlund 2 місяці тому

      I think it's more likely that LGPatA was inspired by the following:
      1971 Stanford Univ. Psych dept Prison Experiment which had to be cancelled early because it went off the rails, sort like the situation in the LGPatA novel.
      1961 Yale Univ. Psych Dept Milgram Experiment where some test subjects needed therapy after the experiment.
      And various WWII women prisoner narratives.
      Leading to how otherwise good kids can, in isolation, commit adult evils. Much like the 1954 novel Lord of the Flies.
