I think The Screaming Mimi is the basis for The Bird with the Crystal Plumage. Deep Red is really good! I've only actually seen Argento Giallo films, so I'll have to branch out. So looking forward to this! 🔪
Oh yes!!! I forgot about The Screaming Mimi / Bird with the Crystal Plumage connection. I think I had heard that before. I didn't get to it in July (the book). I hope to get to it maybe next year!
Tubi currently carries a ton of Giallos. Fulci too in several genres. Gotta give props to a fellow Laymon fanatic. He messed up my mind back in the day, bless him.
You've done such a deep dive with these!! So many books that look amazing - I'm going to add them to my list!! 📝And really lovely to see some of my recs on here 🐻💛 Oh by the way, Opera literally freaked me out so much as a kid I've STILL not been able to rewatch it 😱👀👀 Bert
You know the Laymon book is going to be trashy when Dean Koontz is being quoted on the front. I believe that Headhunter is the first book and Ghoul is the sequel but I don't know if they are related or if they are just like vaguely grouped together. Black Ambrosia is real good. Kelsi...I have never seen Four Flies on Grey Velvet hahahahahaha. So I appreciate the mention but there be no flies on my grey velvet.
MCBAIN!!! Blood Relatives is a good pick! Great mystery and quite dark. The Michael Slade books are good too and IIRC at least one of them has a reference to McBain in it 😂 Have a great month, Kelsi! Oh lol and Spawn is messed up Oh man, Kevin is so bleak. Great but really really bleak
Ambitious! I hope you have a great reading and watching month. If you haven't seen it, the documentary All the Colors of Giallo is currently free on YT.
This video was so much fun. I will definitely be participating in Giallo July. Red is the only book I enjoyed from Jack Ketchum, and I freakin' love that book. I will be adding so many of the books and movies you mentioned to my TBR and TBW. I have been watching some giallo movies since 2020, but I have only scratched the surface of the subgenre. Thank you, Kelsi!
Giallo July is almost here!! You have an amazing stack of books and movies to dive into 🙌 I'm so excited for The Final Gate! Really looking forward to hearing what you think of This Symbiotic Fascination and Occultation whenever you get chance to read them! Ooh your journal spreads look so awesome 😍
I hadn’t heard of this genre until I saw your announcement video a couple weeks ago. I love that Alex came up with this readathon. It’s brilliant! So many of these books sound interesting! Can’t wait to see what you think of them.
I always love seeing what you’re reading and watching. You have an amazing line up!! I need to watch Deep Red and Last Matinee just because of the posters alone 😂
I still didn't get to The Last Matinee - now I'm going to try to get to it for Halloween (maybe) hahaha if I don't get to it then, then I'll keep moving it to different marathons because I definitely wanna watch it! Thanks for watching Lauren 😍
Once you've watched a lot of these giallos, at the end of July when you feel like you are more versed in their tropes and such, you should cap off your month with the giallo parody THE EDITOR from the filmmaking collective ASTRON-6. I actually think that the hilarious, smartass, obscene, graphic films by them (COOL GUYS, MANBORG, FATHER'S DAY, PSYCHO GOREMAN) would be totally up your alley!
@@SlimeAndSlashers The Haar audiobook popped up on Libby and I clicked it so fast. I finished it today and really enjoyed it. First, but definitely not my last.
Promise to go away but The Last Matinee is on Tubi & is a treat. Especially if you enjoy horror set in a cinema. Wish I could have seen it in a semi-empty one. Sorry, I got more overbearing as your intriguing video unspooled. You give me hope for the future mate!
I still have to get to The Last Matinee! But I'm excited - hoping to get to it in October at some point! You don't have to apologize for commenting - I really appreciate it :)

Haha, Laymon is wild but fun!!!
Sorry for running on like this but Ed McBain is the GOAT! Began reading him in the 70's & he's never let me down.
I was able to get to the Ed McBain book and enjoyed it!!!

I was able to watch Opera!!!! I am very proud of myself 😂

Hahahaha I could have sworn you just told me you watched that 😂 I probably mixed it up with a different movie 🤪
@SlimeAndSlashers haha I did just watch Don't Torture a Duckling so it was one of them on your list lololol

I didn't get to Spawnnnnnnn but maybe this month! We Need to Talk About Kevin was really good! Thanks for watching Olly 💖
I have Black Ambrosia on my list after reading and loving my first Elizabeth Engstrom book recently. Great recs that I will check out! 🔪🩸🍴
I still have to get to Black Ambrosia at some point, but I'm really extra excited to now after reading When Darkness Loves Us!
Great video! Your enthusiasm is always contagious. 😀
Better stock up on Murine my friend.
Thank you so much!!!

Ooooooh! I should add that to my watchlist - thank you!!!!

I didn't get to get to RED by Ketchum but I hope to at some point not too far in the distant future! It really seems up my alley! Thanks for watching!
hehee! Maggie's Grave! Excited to hear your thoughts on that. Love that cover on your copy of summer of night!
haha I tagged you when I finished it on Discord but I know things get buried! That peen scene....THE BEST

Heckuva TBR/TBW!! Hope you have a great month. 🎉
Thank you Crystal! I'm excited for July! Hope you have an awesome month too 💖💖💖

You're going to have an awesome July!! I need to get to Wormwood!! I'm so excited for this readathon!
I didn't get to Wormwood!!! I gotta get to it at some point - looks so good! Thanks for watching Katrina
Good luck with your TBR pile! Read the Stepford Wives years ago and loved it. Hope you end up enjoying it, if you're able to get around to it in July!
I didn't get to The Stepford Wives, but I enjoyed my reads! Hope you had a great July!
Summer of Night, YESSS!!
I enjoyed it!!!! Will be talking about it in a wrap up soon!

I have seen Bay of Blood lol. The color of the blood in that was interesting lol.
Thank you for watching - I had a good time with my reads!
You make me so excited to read! 😄
Awe, this is such a huge compliment! Thank you ☺️
I think I have like 5 David Sodergren books on my shelves and still haven't read a one, I should do something about that! 😂
You should totally try Sodergren out! Maggie's Grave was AWESOME
