      You think there's such a thing as a hybrid..? Is it possible that he could keep up with Cassandra Wilson enough to do an album with her? What jazz musician or vocalist could he stand in with.. toss him in with the Lester Bowie-led Leaders and what could he have done? He has a kinda shtick.. a style of performance that is not at all rooted or even grafted in jazz. Maybe if San Francisco had a Fat Tuesday. But they don't.

The last night at the Fox Warfield, in San Fran., the sound man taped our set, through the board and gave us the tape. No, I don't have the tape. Rickie Lee Jones' road mgr. was our road mgr. I saw my 10 day old Thai grand daughter for the first time today. Small and under weight because she was born early. Most Thais have nicknames and Oa and Tom named her Aideen, Irish for little fire. I thought of this song on my short visit, little Aideen is an angel of the first degree.

    • @helenarichard
      @helenarichard 3 роки тому +26

      I wouldn't call it indifference. He was a hard worker, and had a huge cultural bagage. He just looks indifferent, because he doesn't want to fall prey to fame by pretending to be a pretty boy. He realises that that would spoil his music and turn it into all of the other commercial bullshit. He's super intelligent and was smart enough to know that his attitude helped him to keep his music pure. I read multiple books on him but none of explain exactly how his pure genious lead to the creation of some of his most brilliant work like Pagan Streams, Queen Of The Slipstream, Have I Told You Lately.
