Jason, From your Buyers Guide, you only require a paddle only? David

I had a kayak like you described when I lived in Waimea, Kauai. What a great kayak. I added a cross piece where I could attach a marine trolling motor. My wife and I would take it off shore about half a mile

So how is it to pedal such a wide, heavy kayak in solo mode?
And when you are using the seat and drive in the center position, is the rear drive socket accessible for putting an Evolve or Bixpy motor in and pulling it out? That might be important for someone soloing it all day. I can't tell from the Hobie photos whether the seat blocks that rear socket or not.

Hi Brian, the PA17 pedals well in single mode when you are working around a tide but it would be tested in a strong current. The rear drive is partially covered by the the rear bottom bar of the seat when in single mode. The front drive well would be your best option for the Bixpy or Evolve Motors. David

It is not that bad in solo mode. Once you get your momentum up it is more of a maintenance pedal to keep your speed. I got the sail kit to supplement in solo mode. It works great. You can make up some great time in solo mode with the sail up. It is a stable platform to sail. I would suggest putting in the second drive in the front well and lock it in the down mode. This will act as another skeg to help keep the bow running true.

Ibezag0 I believe it weighs 240 pounds before it's fully rigged

Yes Jason, it is 244 lbs fully rigged or 111 kgs. It is 207 ibs or 94 kg fitted hull weight, without seats and drives.

I estimate your weight at 170 lets have s 200 lb+ do this test since a majority will be coming in at that weight. If you want to make the test legit .

Not so stable that you have to hold on the chair when to get over

It is stable. Very stable. There is just not a lot of room for your feet when you are stepping over. If you mis-step you will likely go for a swim. It is more of an awkward balance thing than a stability thing.
