I found the freaking thing on the internet talking about the heights of Sword and Shield characters, and yeah. Raihan's a giant of a man. I have no problem with my fave Galar gym leader being that tall. Now this makes me really want to see someone try and figure out heights for the characters from other generations. I'm willing to bet my favorite Champion, Lance, could be close to Raihan's height as well, or at least close to Leon's height, since most fan artwork I've seen of all the Champions together usually portrays Lance as one of the tallest ones there.
They really managed to make the gyms feel like the spectacle they should be. The path to becoming the champion is basically like becoming a celebrity and these games give it the scale something like that should be. You are not just 2 trainers battling in a themed room. You are two trainers battling for the ENTIRE REGION.
For real!! That was the best part of the game for sure. I wish SV followed up on that. The gym battles are so lame in gen 9. The gyms themselves don't even matter. Oh well

Kabu's eyes literally lit on fire before gmaxing, Allister makes a scary face, Gordie pushes the middle of his glasses and Melony literally snuggles the pokeball, while Raihan takes a selfie with it. The details in this game are definitely present
Yeah, they’re just not the details everybody wants to see in a Pokémon game. Which kinda sucks because, as the anime demonstrates, giving the gym leaders personality can make for some cool/emotional/funny moments.
So here's a heartwarming fun fact: If what I've read is correct, apparently one of the SwSh composers based the chanting part on an actual chant they heard at a UK soccer game while travelling. If this is true, that means everyone who took part in that chant at that game unknowingly became part of Pokemon history.
Fizz Atomic well the referee decides if both teams carry on playing or the match is forfeited and another date is scheduled since all football players sign a contract and get paid before the matches
in my opinion the gen 5 leader theme perfectly encapsulates what a pokemon battle should be, epic and fun (and the last pokemon theme is absolutely gorgeous) but this one is the perfect combination of a menacing battle theme mixed with a chorus that really makes you feel like you are really competing with these "athletes"
@@malkjoestar eh, as much as love gen 5 to the death, gen 8's gym battle theme does feel more hype. Victory Lies Before You is a different story though. No other gen can top that.
I love the designs of every gym leader here. The logos on their clothes are icing on the cake, really implying that Pokémon battles are now sponsored sports.
The better thing. The numbers on their uniforms are a pun on their typings in Japanese, for example Milo's 831 number. If you pronounced it in Japanese is a pun on the Japanese word for "Veggie". Melony's is "Cold", Nessa's is "Swim" etc.
And then there's the Dark type Gym, the only classic Gym. Gonna be honest he was fun, had to revive once, and the battle ended in a double knockout due to a combination of my Bultan's low health, and the skunk pokemon's aftermath ability. I couldn't stop laughing at what happened.
@@ederlabarrera8143 true but I just wish they all had sick animations for like every move, not just specialty ones like Dragon ascent or Behemoth blade/bash

So it turns out that I recently found out that Kabu is from Hoenn. He mustve been the original fire gym trainer then passed it down to her grandaughter Flannery.
Im glad they went for the bombastic feeling more, more wild and more chaotic, more hyper and fun. It really captures the feeling of a football match and makes the uncomfortably big gym battling ground more fun. Overall i love what they did for the gym challenges in swsh, it's the first time a pokemon gym battle feels HYPE and FUN, they also manages to make you see how each gym leader actually have a personality in their animation (I'm mostly talking about the dynamax/gigamax animation), hella cool generation, the game is just unfortunately kinda half-assed.
Part 1: The crowd is expecting the Gym Leader to smoke you. Part 2: You start to win the crowd over as you battle. Part 3: You won the crowd as they chant to you for Dynamax time.
It would be sick to have this in smash. Like the match starts with the gym music but then someone gets knocked down to their last stock and the music transitions.
Gordie does two consecutive front flips while turning around and landing his throw flawlessly. I'm glad I played Shield. I'm afraid of what this man is capable of.

This time I've decided to add my own Gameplay in it and also added each picture of each gym leader. It took me almost 5 hours to complete this. Hope you appreciate. The other one I've made before doesn't countain any gameplay. It might unfortunatly be deleted in a few day.
@@jeanmikael7929 Unfortunatly, I can't since in my opinion they are already ok. And also if I do that I can't do other stuff on my first channel because posting these took a while to make them good (adding gameplay, editing the quality of the music and also working on each picture)
Man, no one will give Piers a break, will they? Just because he refuses to Dynamax and advertise companies doesn't mean that he has no purpose or special traits in life. He's trying to pick up his town's and little sister's lives while he's dealing with his own shambled life. He was just a young teenager when he became Gym Leader, and he had a whole town expecting things and relying upon him, a young teenager, to aid them. Can you imagine that kind of stress? All he says is "to not worry" as his town slowly gets worse and worse to keep his people happy and to have hope.
The crowd cheering for you in this theme really hit me with nostalgia because where I'm from, mainly a rural area, the whole town celebrates Carnival and everyone gets dressed and theres a whole march, etc. Etc., But, we also sing along some songs they put on the background, meaning that it really felt like one of those moments again, I found myself singing along and almost tearing up. This makes it seem like the game is really alieve and it's not some artificial AI.
I legit forgot about him on my second playthrough. I saw seven leaders, I have allister and melony, my brother has the other game with Bea and Gordie, and I thought the missing one was one of them and I completely forgot about Piers until I reached spikemuth again
Gmax flapple/appletuns design gets 10x better if the opponent gigantamaxes first and it looks down at you. It just looks goofy as hell with those giant eyes
This is one of the few if not the only one in which Battles seem fun. Ig XY also have that fun thing going on, but SwSh nails it imo. Other gym themes are menacing, and threatening, specially the Unova one.
@@rohankhatri3226 I'd actually like to feel threatened when my monsters are challenging the cities strongest trainer so... unova gym best theme, especially the change with the last pokemon, that feeling of "victory is within reach!" :D
I really like Kabu's design, and the way they depict him as the "ultimate" challenge for novice trainers. The wall not everyone can overcome. All these gym leaders are cool but Kabu is the one I couldn't forget.
Bruh my first playthrough I almost lost to Kabu. The gym trial was hard enough. Picked up a Wimpod in the Galar mines as my team water type and it's ability "Emergency Exit" is such a pain in the ass when battling. It didn't help that Arcanine and Ninetales are super bulky and you keep dying to wil o wisp. I will never underestimate fire gyms again.
@@jandcstopmotion7774 Laughably easy? That game stopped being easy when I fought Kabu. Every fight after that I barely made it through lol. I lost to Bea 4 times before beating that gym. Even during the end game when I faced Leon, I only won cause a sandstorm took down his Charizard. Best Pokemon game I've ever played lol.
PKNate Your trash at Pokémon then, I never grinded once and i destroyed everyone. Have you played any of the gen 3-5 games because they are undoubtedly better and actually moderately challenging. I don’t understand how this could be your favourite but whatever.
The cheering is my favorite part. I used to just stop and listen to it for a minute before attacking bc I always 1hit ko'd and wanted to listen to this banger
theres nothing I love more then just walking out of a gym battle and having these kids being like "theyre so strong" like it makes me feel important and little npc kids are now seeing me as a role model like-
@Merciless Freak And YOU shouldn't be talking to them like that. You aren't a person who is cool by being mean to people and cause straight up drama on the internet. And if they are trash, they would be in the dumpster. People like you shouldn't be a complete douche and be rude to others like you own a whole business. So go somewhere else with that negativity where your gonna get insulted yourself by others and leave other nice people alone.
I just gotta say, this is one of the best gym themes I've heard in any of the games. This theme *really* pumps you up and feels like your match actually has weight to it, and that you're in front of a stadium full of people, cheering and excited to see who will come out on top--the experienced Gym Leaders who battled their way into the top eight spots in the league, or this up and coming trainer from a little backwater town who aims to be the first to best Leon. And the theme that kicks in when you get them down to their final Pokemon just gets me so hyped up, like I'm going to *kick your ass* and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
This shouldn't really be compared to previous gym themes. First this game took a bit more realistic approach to the gym system, wheras previous games were very fictional and fantasy like. The gyms felt like they belonged to the gym leaders. This game took an olympics approach to the gym system. Previous games were completely out of this world, gyms that could only exist in the Pokemon Universe. There's nothing wrong with that but there's a clear difference between then and what they tried to do this time. Either way is fine but this should not be compared to previous gyms.
HakuHashi Originals honestly why i like piers, that teensy tiny mechanic where gmax is disabled in his gym, yet, when you fight him in the championship matches/rematches, he still doesn’t use it because it grates against him for some unexplained reason the story never flat out tells you, makes me super curious.
Tower: *turns into a proper skyscraper, before slamming a previously Dynamax, but now probably about to FAINT, Riolu using a physical G-Max Depletion (which will have STAB unless you hack it onto a Pokémon that doesn't have the Dragon type)*
literally wanted to get shield because i feel like allister and melony speak to me more than bea and gordie,, but i got sword first because of the cool legendary NDJDKKDKD but i will get shield soon too so fair game
I know this game was very controversial, and I agree that the graphics are only average, but personally I think what I love about this game is the music, the energy, and the characters. To me, this is the first Pokémon game that made me feel like a real Pokémon champion, the way people cheer for you, the way it’s televised. In the old games it never really gave you the feeling of actually being champion, but this game makes you feel like a real celebrity! And all of the characters are so cool. Especially the fun leaders, they have so much personality and don’t feel like they were just thrown aside after their gym battle like in the old games. I really felt a connection to the characters. Even Kabu, who I had the lowest expectations for, was a very charming character to me. Basically what I’m saying is that even with its flaws, what this game did right was atmosphere and characters❤️
il wait till there is a price drop and then i will buy it. first pokemon game where i never bought and I dont even know the pokemon in it. However this gym leader theme is NOICE!!!!!!! the really captured gym battles being this massive events. the crowd chanting is just a nice feel. I cant comment on champion battle cuz i have not seen it, but by description it sounds pretty awesome.
My main gripes about it were the exploration. Compared to older titles it felt like going to the next town wasn't really a journey, it felt like you walked 10 steps and you were there. The other thing is the lack of Voice acting. Like when you reach the Dark Gym leader and he's having that awkward concert with Team Yell and he's just rocking out but there's no sound whatsoever.
For example, at a North London Derby, there might be Arsenal fans going: "What do we think of Tottenham?" "Shit!" "What do we think of shit!" "Tottenham!"
I grew up near the local football stadium for the town team, and spent a lot of time in the nearby city that has a premier league team. Hearing the chanting in the final phase honestly got me beyond hyped up in every battle and it's such a fantastic touch.

Couple theories- Since Kabu is from Hoenn, and looks kind of like Maxie, there's a *slim* chance they're related. But there's more. In ORAS, Flannery says her granddad was the leader before her. Maxie certainly seems old enough for it. My theory is that either Kabu or Maxie were the fire type gym leader beforehand. That is all.
Except Team Magma is a ground type team, just like the ground type Groundon. Lot of people still think Team Magma is fire themed, which is wrong. Team Flare is fire themed.

Arguably the greatest gym leader theme in the entire franchise?
in my opinion the gen 5 leader theme perfectly encapsulates what a pokemon battle should be, epic and fun (and the last pokemon theme is absolutely gorgeous) but this one is the perfect combination of a menacing battle theme mixed with a chorus that really makes you feel like you are really competing with these "athletes"
I totally agree! It’s so good that people a few years from now might turn it into a meme (similar to what happened to Dritftveil city)
@@malkjoestar eh, as much as love gen 5 to the death, gen 8's gym battle theme does feel more hype. Victory Lies Before You is a different story though. No other gen can top that.
This is not even arguable
I actually teared up listening to this again, especially during phase 3/the final Pokémon part goddamn
I love the designs of every gym leader here. The logos on their clothes are icing on the cake, really implying that Pokémon battles are now sponsored sports.
Which means any past mistakes by these players are possible grounds for getting cancelled on Twitter.
Skittle RMX yep
Raihan is black (I think?), he'd have to REALLY screw up to.get cancelled on Twitter.
This game spawned so much controversy, though one thing I think we can all agree on is that the music is absolutely killer.
You are right, I can feel the energy from the crowd chanting.

He was just a young teenager when he became Gym Leader, and he had a whole town expecting things and relying upon him, a young teenager, to aid them. Can you imagine that kind of stress? I just gotta say, this is one of the best gym themes I've heard in any of the games. This theme *really* pumps you up and feels like your match actually has weight to it, and that you're in front of a stadium full of people, cheering and excited to see who will come out on top--the experienced Gym Leaders who battled their way into the top eight spots in the league, or this up and coming trainer from a little backwater town who aims to be the first to best Leon. And the theme that kicks in when you get them down to their final Pokemon just gets me so hyped up, like I'm going to *kick your ass* and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
Any song that makes good use of the soccer whistle is hype. Theres an entire subgenre literally where its whistles over calypso music
It honestly wouldn't be an issue if Gamefreak didn't highlight that the game's quality would be better.

This game is pretty mediocore but I do agree with u on that. The draw distance and animations were just flat out terrible
I agree, thus was this first pokémon game where i was actually attached to the characters and they didn't just feel like obsticals in my way.
The cheering crowds was accurate. Have you ever seen a football match in a stadium? It’s just chanting the whole time
For example, at a North London Derby, there might be Arsenal fans going:
"What do we think of Tottenham?"
"Shit!"
"What do we think of shit!"

Because she’s a demon and a witch, we need to burn her
@@canadiancanucklehead8310 she looks like a combination of the Queen of England and Gru.
Well, she is the _fairy_ gym leader, and you just discribed fairies in a nutshell
And of course at the end, the obligatory yell:
*PINK!*
Oooh. I like this one
Except Team Magma is a ground type team, just like the ground type Groundon. Lot of people still think Team Magma is fire themed, which is wrong. Team Flare is fire themed.
Nice theory!
@@sunsetstar7806 Then either he switched to fire or it was Kabu
@@minerman8118 it was most likely just Kabu. Maxie is just a ground type user, even when Omega Ruby came around.
Me: *says Opal is 88*
Opal: "So you have chosen stat reduction...?"
Raine Wasabi I went for that option too I’m not great with quizzes ;-;
@@libraeevee9467 You're perfectly fine with quizzes. She's just petty.
Valydendor I mean stuff that say you’ve studied for it and you get a total different thing
Also it was my first time I did not see any guides either but thanks for the support either way
@@libraeevee9467 That was my entire Anatomy Final. Nothing on that study guide helped. Didn't use a guide for this game either nearly lost to Opal.
Valydendor I’m pretty sure I should try and find as many steel types or whatever is strong against Opal thankfully I got past her
