Like sure I had a Pikachu and a Eevee during the elite 4 but still...and in BW I did choose Snivy so...I had the weakest starter yet I still won. Really the real challenges was fighting against N and Ghetsis back to back. And really Gen 7 had a tough elite 4...especially with Kahili and Molayne in USUM.
this theme is much more intense when you consider the fact that you're racing to beat them as quickly as possible before team plasma's plan of surefire world domination is complete
This is the first time we got to choose which one to fight first instead of gauntlet. That alone alluding to the fact that whoever you fight first and last, they're equally strong.
@@jasongiddens8749 Every pokémon anime sucks. Just because the protagonist is a stupid guy that can't evolve even a pokémon ._. (In gen5 he just evolved Tepig into Pignite, then I'm asking why the rival's serperior just swept Ash's team...)
They popped off with this Elite 4. I love the synergy between the 4 type specialties, all 4 character designs are iconic, the Pokémon on each team are all strong af and have an alarming amount of coverage moves. This theme is just icing on the cake. 4 Heavenly Kings indeed.

Other Elite Fours: Test the strength of your team and your battle strategies Unova Elite Four: Beat you into a pulp, steal your bike and eat the cookies your mom made for you
They may have the hardest music, may be known to some as the hardest elite four ever, even their types may counter each other's; but for me, the main reason these four trainers are my favorite E4 of the franchise is their group synergy. Sure, there's almost nothing in common between a quirky writer, an obsessed fighter, a ruined ludopath and an overpowered sleeper, but together they feel like a unified, whole entity. And I'm not talking about the relationships between themselves. There's just something about them that makes them feel like a homogeneous group of people formed by totally opposite parts; in contrast to the heterogeneity of the groups formed by the other regions' E4 members, which, yes, in certain regions there could be a bit of group synergy, but it won't be as strong as the Unova E4's dynamic (by my perspective, at least).
So true honestly. Squad goals. They also seem to have a good relationship with Alder seeing how he had one Pokémon representing each Elite Four member in his PWT team. I also think they really like Iris considering Caitlin's dialogue with her in Pokemas (waiting for the other characters to get more voice lines).
@@Jdudec367 I think a lot of it has to do with their character design. They mesh really well, but at the same time they all give off their own main character energy. As opposed to something like sun and moon where you have a kahuna, a hot woman, ghost girl, and a literal golfer.
I think Unova elite 4 are the best in concept. Each of them representing life aspects: Shauntal - Ghost - Soul Marshall - Fighting - Body/physical Caitlin - Psychic - Mind Grimsley - Dark/Evil - conscience Combine them all and that's what makes human "Human"
that freaking shauntal is a nightmare.. her chandalure seems like having 1000 base attack and 1000 base defense with speed of sound..then her other pokemon are also the same.. i wonder how those kiddos who started playing BW as their first pokemon game were doing and how it effect their mental health because all four are freaking hard.
Every gen has some stupid pokemon, but Gen2-4 was probably the best concentration of designs. Gen 5 has good designs and a lot that make me question who asked for them.
It was the first time the elite four were really challenging for me. But that might just be because the game wanted you to take all of them on, THEN team plasma without any breaks inbetween.
But if you had a dark type you beat ghost and psychic or if you got that one bug/poison type scorpion you'd counter the fighting and psychic gyms. They were basically begging you to pick certain pokemon to hard counter certain members haha
Shauntaul is about to send in Chandelure! No probs, go Krookodile. CHANDELURE USED ENERGY BALL! KROOKODILE FAINTED SAMURROT FAINTED CHANEDLURE USED FIRE BLAST! LEAVANNY FAINTED!
Many years, and this Pokemon game still the best for me. Im a one gen player, but the five is really incredible, the pokemon theme / history and design is good af. Eelektross ❤️
This is easily the most well designed elite four ever, with fighting, psychic, ghost and dark as the four types. Each foils another and is weak to another, and all are very high level and have the most badass music of them all that just screams: “You don’t belong here, get out.”
Eh....is it? Sinnoh's was pretty tough and Alola's elite 4 were actual characters you know. In USUM Steel, Rock, Ghost, and Flying were all pretty strong types for the elite 4...and it was tough and the music went along with that pretty well.
Personally this is my favorite elite 4 theme, and the fact this is what I'd hear trying to get my favorite pokemon Hydreigon to level 100 really helped
Absolutely the same, but I heard this a *LOT* while leveling up my Haxorus and Hydreigon in Black 2 and White 2, the best non-legendary Dragon types imo.
I could go on and on about how awesome and significant these Elite 4 are in particular but by far one of the coolest things is that they’re based off of the four factors of health and wellness Mind - Caitlin Body - Marshal Spirit - Shauntal Soul - Grimsley
I’d argue that “spirit” and “soul” are the same thing. What about “Material” for Grimsley? As in, wealth and possessions. Grimsley gambles. It’s a bit of a stretch to include it with the others, you’d have to have a rather *dark* perspective to think them equal in value...
@@jakobr_ i felt like he meant having different multitudes of spirit like determination, or will while you obviously know what souls is. In my opinion I would switch those traits around giving shauntal soul since she deals with literal wandering ghosts unless he is indicating Shantel with wandering spirits while Grimsley has a trong soul
@@jakobr_ spirit refers to something everything has, plants, rocks, wind; the spirit Is the Energy all things have while soul are the core of only living beings, the memories, experiences, emotions and personality are converged in the soul. Spirit Is the force of life that everything has and the soul Is the core that thing that transcend the physical and Mind and only living things can have
Someone below commented that the theme conveys an air of "You don’t belong here". If you listen from the melody drop at 0:15 and say it like "you don't be-long here", it actually fits the cadence of the music perfectly!
Every player trying to get the type advantage: *uses Flying-types to try and one-shot sweep Marshal's team* Sawk with Sturdy and Stone Edge: _laughs profusely_ *No.*
@Ember the Flareon Since he is most likely on vacation for all we know that could be his casual look. It is also speculated that Grimsley came to Alola to display his talent to show his skills that his character had back in generation 5 to get him out of his addiction.
Jeez I forgot how much of a BANGER this is. Gen 5 was my return to Pokemon after dropping it after Gen 3 and my God I'm so happy Unova exists. BW & BW2 are God Tier games for me.
Shauntal: Oh! You know..... You don't have to sacrifice yourself like this, right? Marshal: You. Will. *SUFFER.* Grimsly: Pffffft you actually walked in here? Poor thing.... Caitlin:.....................So you've chosen death.
In terms of originality, Unovas elite four were definitely up there. The theme of a hierarchy was evident and their design choices as well as music reflect how powerful they really are too. One of my favorite sets for sure.
I like to think that each of the parts of the song is an elite four member. Grimsley is the weird syncopated thing at the beginning. Marshal is the frantic percussion. Shauntal is the lower main melody. Caitlin is the extra accompaniment and flourishes. I don’t know if anyone ever thought of this before, I just think it’s cool.
Do you guys notice that there is a synergy among these four? I mean. Fighting is weak to psychic, strong to dark, but doesn't affect ghost. Psychic is weak to ghost, strong to fighting, but doesn't affect dark. Ghost is weak to dark, strong to psychic, immune to fighting. Dark is strong to ghost, weak to fighting, immune tp psychic.
Marshall is easily the hardest of the bunch. His team had all the coverage they needed. That Sawk was a pain in the ass to deal with. He’s one of the few E4 members throughout the series that I prepared specifically against.
He was the easiest for me tbh.. None of his mons were that strong. Shauntal was hard. So hard I had to restart my save because I had 4 mons in my team including one unevolved pokemon

Grimsley: "Aye bro a lot of challengers are coming through today, but im not gonna go easy because of that" Caitlin: *wakes up and chooses violence*
One of the best elite fours in Pokémon history. Fighting, ghost, dark and psychic. The 4 (in my opinion) most offensive types. And all four balance each other out as well.
consider this: alder theme sucks, but this theme is even better than Hoenn e4, in b2/w2 Iris theme is wonderful.. On the other hand you have 2 opposite situations: Kanto and Sinnoh: they don't have actually a e4 theme (even though they deserve it cause they were great) but the champions of those regions have also great themes.
Nah, I don't think it would work as a champion's theme, it works great for the elite 4, but imagining it with, say, Iris, it just doesn't feel right for me.
It is a testament to how much the music gen 5 slapped that no one as of yet has been able to create a remix that captures the original majesty and terror inspired by this theme

…who’s the ludopath ?
@@redacted-oo7ne Probably Grimsley. Shauntal is the writer, Marshal the fighter, and Caitlin the sleeper, more than likely.
I don't see how their synergy is stronger then every other elite 4's though.
@@Jdudec367 I think a lot of it has to do with their character design. They mesh really well, but at the same time they all give off their own main character energy. As opposed to something like sun and moon where you have a kahuna, a hot woman, ghost girl, and a literal golfer.

I could go on and on about how awesome and significant these Elite 4 are in particular but by far one of the coolest things is that they’re based off of the four factors of health and wellness
Mind - Caitlin
Body - Marshal
Spirit - Shauntal
Soul - Grimsley
And the champion Alder is a carefree guy, who has all four of these factors.
Wow didn't realize that
I’d argue that “spirit” and “soul” are the same thing.
