  • This video is long overdue! My sterling silver necklaces from Tiffany & Co. needed some serious cleaning - I was able to find some videos on how to clean sterling silver jewelry at home and it seemed easy enough! The process was super simple and only took about 10 minutes from start to finish. I think my before and after shots are really crazy and overall think this turned out really well! If you want to try this for yourself...
    All you need is:
    - A bowl
    - Aluminum foil
    - Baking soda
    - Hot/boiling water
    - Paper towels

Thank you for this video. I spent almost $400.00 on a sterling silver necklace from a company called grimfrost and recently started to tarnish bad. I watched a few videos of this process and your video was so much better then others. Again thank you for this video.

PERFECT. I wish I would have taken an before and after pic. My James Avery scroll bracelet was BLACK and within 3 minutes, shiny and new looking. P.S. Skip to 3:30 if you just want to see the procedure and skip the talking in the beginning.

If you want to recover more brilliance, try to let in warm water with dawn or soft handsoap for like 15 minutes, brush with a old thootbrush and clean with a jewelry cleaning cloth (which you can find at most jewelry stores), they'll become like brand new

I would use a soft toothbrush, anything stiff can add swirl scratches in the silver.

I would also avoid scrubbing with baking soda because isn't it an abrasive? (quick google search is divided on this).

No need to be embarrassed. I bought mine in 2005 and I'm almost positive it was 250. And now it's jumped to 800...crazy. The toggle necklace. I actually bought the bracelet and some hoop earrings. I'm almost positive that I walked out of there spending about 500 bucks! It's insane. I know silver goes up..but it didn't go up THAT much. And I was told for all three back then by my mom that it was entirely too expensive. haha. I cleaned mine some kind of way with baking soda and water..and they mostly came clean but they still have a little antique silver look. I don't know how shiny they are supposed to get.

Thank you for sharing this. I had always used toothpaste and an old toothbrush to clean my jewelery. I had a tiffany style silver bracelet that I had not worn in over 15 years that had so much tarnish inside the links. Toothpaste was not cutting it, did this method and it looks better than ever. A quick tip for you all, store your jewelry inside a polishing cloth. It will prevent it from tarnishing. I just forgot to add this bracelet since learning this trick years ago.

I clean mine with a silver jewelry cleaner then use the T&Co polish to give it more of a shine. The T&Co polish cloth works really well too.

They are going to be worth a lot more as silver rises in value. No matter the form it is in, it will always carry its melt weight value in silver, minus the percent worth of non-silver metal in the alloy.

I’ve tried it but it works better with other silver jewelry, when I used it on my Tiffany cuff, like you, it also took me three shots, to the point where I also rubbed the bracelet with a toothbrush as well. It works less on Tiffany items, I don’t know why

You threw it out?! I hope that means you sold it…or gave it away even. Even if it’s not your aesthetic of the moment, Tiffany&Co. jewelry ALWAYS appreciates in value. Always. It’s something you can pass down. Tiffany&Co isn’t a trend. They are classic, timeless heirloom pieces. Please y’all don’t throw Tiffany jewelry out. Please. Check the prices of the pieces you have. I’m serious. Heirloom pieces that appreciate in value over time.

I believe you could get those even brighter, and I know a much easier way to not only clean them but make them SHINE. I have a silver chain, and when I want to clean it, I pour a small amount of TARN-X liquid into a bowl and drop the chain in and the chain cleans instantly, although I still leave it for a few minutes just to make sure I'm getting maximum shine. You can take a toothpick or anything really and stir the jewelry around or just jiggle the bowl. Then a real good rinse under warm water and dry it on a regular towel or paper towel. Do.Did.DONE!

Another super easy way to remove tarnish is to take your toothbrush and some toothpaste and just brush the jewelry! Before brushing the jewelry rinse the jewelry with just regular water (cold or room temp) then wet your toothbrush with the toothbrush and just keep brushing until they get sparkles!

Oh also..I always say...i'd rather have an engagement ring from Tiffanys that is a quarter of a karat than a huge cheap ring. A lot of people don't understand you get what you pay for more than any other jewelry with Tiffany. Plus the smaller the diamond..the more real it looks...right? Try to sell a kay jewelery engagement ring to a jeweler and you will see...that diamond doesn't even matter. You get melt value only! I encourage anyone to buy Tiffany with something as important as your wedding bands..with something you wear everyday. Not to say you are gonna gain anything off of your Tiffany jewelry..you might...you might get back what you paid..I think it just depends. But you would definitely see the difference in someone's reaction to buying old Tiffany than something like kay.

I totally didn't think it'd work. I had a very tarnished James Avery bracelet. It was way more tarnished than yours. So I went and tried it cause I want to wear my charm bracelet again. It worked wonders. Just a heads up to anyone who tries this and your jewelry had a darkness to it to make it looked aged some of that will come off it did on mine so just be aware of that part. This did the job though.

And also, if u want to shine ur pendant more.. just use baking soda, rub it directly on the pendant like sanding it using the baking soda with cloth
