    Thanks for the comparison! There's little to no difference in the sound to me, so I'm keeping my MV7! :p

      Yeah I didn’t hear any difference and any differences there may be are so negligible it’s not worth upgrading or can be corrected via editing…
      But! I am yet to do the USB test and I guess the only thing to be concerned with is the digital popper stopper…
      Thanks for watching!

    MV7x definitely sounds a little warmer and richer. MV7+ has a hint of nasal sound to it. MV7x is reminiscent of the SM7B.

      @@leo_hoang Trying the Maono PD400x but I don't think it's working right. A few days ago I tried FiFine K688 and it worked great for two hours then stopped. Maybe I need to skip USB and go right to XLR. Sigh. If I do that it will be MV7x vs SM7B. What audio interface would you recommend. if I do that? Frustrated.

      @@artmaltman I don’t have much experience with audio interfaces , but out of the ones I have used, and depending on use and budget, I would go for any new Rode.
      Rode Streamer X or Rodecaster Duo/Pro II…
      I use my Streamer X daily for work calls which also has my camera connected, but if I’m recording a video for UA-cam it’s Rodecaster Pro II for me.
      There is a saying, buy nice or buy twice… this stuff typically holds its value if you’re buying via used market so worst case, if you give it a go and don’t like it, you can sell…
      Right now at least, i would suggest to skip over the SM7B and just get something like SM58 or SM57 and get a foam windshield and practice mic technique.
      Or if you want that prestige/level, I find the Electro-Voice RE20 better than the SM7B…
      I’m still doing long term tests to determine my final preference but I regularly lean my preference to RE20.:.

      @@leo_hoangFantastic advice, thanks! Do nice dynamic microphones with XLR audio interface still blow away any USB microphone?
      So far trying FiFine K688 and Maono PD400x via USB I find the volume oddly low. On playback I have to crank the volume much higher than when listening to UA-cam for example. This amplifies background noise. I am very careful to set mic output and Macintosh input volumes at max.
      Would MV7 or MV7+ be any different?
      PD400x is more clear than the K688. And both USB microphones make other sources like a webcam mic completely unlistenable. Slippery slope I guess.
      So far I am doing this all for Zoom or Zoom like sessions.
      Seems like an odd situation.

    • @leo_hoang
      @leo_hoang  5 місяців тому +1

      @@artmaltman not odd at all, it’s how I got started and my setup is overkill which includes a professional camera and lighting. People at work scoff at my work calls laughing at how over the top my setup is lol…
      I wouldn’t say it’s a blanket statement that XLR trumps USB… it’s use case scenario really…
      The trouble I’m learning with audio is that there are a number of elements to consider, not just the mic itself… so you would have to consider the interface and how you’d process the audio…
      An “out of the box” good sounding mic that I’ve used is the Rode XDM100. It’s big and a bit unsightly but I can’t fault its performance. I’m no expert but I thought it sounded great for its price.
      Anything else seems to have more variables to consider but if you get a Rode interface which has the Revolution Pre-amps, process it or put on a good preset, you should be good to go

    How come when I use the MV7X, it doesnt pick my voice up when im more than an inch away from the mic... i litterally have to have my mouth on it to use it... am i doing something wrong?

    • @leo_hoang
      @leo_hoang  4 місяці тому

      As you have the MV7X, this means you need an XLR connection into an audio interface. So I would first check your audio interface settings to see if you have set your GAIN levels appropriately.
      I’ve had another viewer had a similar issue and through talking with him, I discovered he was using an XLR to 3.5mm converted cable. This won’t work.
      You need an interface to power your mic.
      But if you talk me through your exact setup and how everything is connected, I can try help.
      You may infact just have a faulty mic.
      I have another video on my channel where I discuss fake mics, you may have a faulty or fake mic.
      It’s worth checking out

      @@leo_hoang Hey Leo, thanks. The mic was purchased from Shure's official site so I believe its real.
      I basically connected the mic directly into my laptop with an XLR cable i purchased from amazon.
      it works but only when my mouth is right up againts it. I guess what youre saying is to make the mic clear (from a distance) i'll need an interface? thanks for the reply bro.

    • @leo_hoang
      @leo_hoang  4 місяці тому +1

      @@ElvenReacts as far as I’m aware, it’s impossible to connect directly via XLR to a laptop without an interface.
      These mics are best used 6” away from your mouth to get the best sound and minimal ambient sound.
      Something doesn’t sound quite right with your setup.
      So if purchased from Shure directly, it sounds like something is off with your setup.

    The difference between how they handle plosives is actually quite different, but you didn't notice because of how they were positioned, with the majority of the air burst going between them, rather directly into the capsule.

    • @leo_hoang
      @leo_hoang  4 місяці тому

      I’ve checked out other reviews and they have said the same thing as me regarding them having the same capsules so would sound the same. Difference would be via the DSP which is via USB connectivity. But via XLR they would be the same

      Yep! The old MV7 is a solid mic… I feel like the MV7X is very underrated as it’s XLR only… seems like all the podcasters who use the MV7 have got the USB version but still use via XLR… weird eh? lol
      They could quite literally save basically half if they forego the USB connectivity seeing as they’re going via XLR anyway…

      @@leo_hoang To be fair a lot of podcasters and streamers bought the MV7 not knowing there will be an XLR-only version down the line and just thought the USB interface can serve just for emergencies and on the go. Seems Shure got the memo since a lot of them (including me) wanted a more affordable XLR-only SM7b-like mic. Personally if I've known that I would've held off. For now my OG MV7 stays since as far as I can tell all three MV7 SKUs are pretty much identical sound-wise and the only difference is the lack of USB on the MV7X and USB-C/app-exclusive features on the MV7+.

      It’s worth checking, there is a sound difference but for the price I paid for my fake I don’t think it’s a huge issue… it’s good enough to have me fooled for 2yrs…
      Check out some of my other videos and mic comparisons so you can hear it…
      But short version of the story is I had Mv7 thinking it was genuine, snobbishly I wanted SM7B as it “looks” better… found out there’s loads of fake Shure mics… I researched on how to identify a genuine SM7B and then stumbled across the fake MV7 video…
      I didn’t even consider the fact my MV7 could be fake until I saw this video and compared with genuine ones, and yes… mine is fake…
      When you use the mic with no comparisons it sounds good to me, but when you compare, there is a difference…
